This modest studio hosts some pretty big name teachers…read more Once a year, they have workshops including Kofia Busia and Aadil Palkhivala both of whom are longtime students of BKS Iyengar. One of Kofi Busia's most memorable classes was when he taught two poses in a two hour class: tadasana and dandasana. Tadasana, or mountain pose, is when your are standing up straight which looks similar to a military soldier at attention. Dandasana, or staff pose is when you sit on the floor with legs straight in front of you and upright chest so the whole body has an "L" shape. Many of the students said they were sore the next day from holding those two "simple" poses for so long. Studio owner Elaine Chung and her husband have run the studio since the mid 90's. She is a detailed teacher who is attentive to student's needs regardless of level and ability. During the recent Kofi workshop, there was a student who could not walk without use of crutches and she assisted him in getting into poses using props. Years ago, she hosted a teacher Jahangir who taught a twisting sequence. She was able to beautifully recreate the sequence and teachings for those who were not able to attend Jahangir's class. Now that there are so many new yoga studios opening up with teachers who only have a few hours of teacher training experience, it is refreshing to find a studio that has been around for decades with seasoned practitioners and staff.

This location has one studio, and classes start as early as 5:45am on weekdays. Its bathroom was…read morerecently renovated, so it's new, bright, and clean. Members don't have to bring their own locks anymore with the new lockers. Overall, I think the SET and management team have done a good job of keeping the studio clean, tidy, and stocked with necessary items like disinfectant bottles, napkins, feminine products, etc. There's a shoe rack right by the entrance for you to leave your slippers at. All the instructors are humble, friendly, and very skilled. Most of them also pay attention to your form during practice, making sure you won't get injured. I really like that they offer several strengthx (45 mins) classes here. Aside from the excellent tenured instructors (Theresa, Maka, Tara, Karen, Kinau), my recommendations for Sculpt and StrengthX are: Lianne, Elizabeth, Clyde, Melissa, Sammi, Chelsea, Sammy, and Skarlett. Paula also has fun theme sculpt classes! Parking: You can always find parking on the upper level. The regulars here also seem respectful and mindful.

I love the classes and teachers here are fantastic and the facility is well maintained…read more The negative- they have a teen/buddy program to improve their mental health, however, cliques are formed and they giggle in class and/or loiter in the change room. Since there is only one studio as well, they loiter in front of the classroom and cut in front of people who were waiting long before them. When you want to practice in peace and feel welcomed and safe, it is bothersome. People pay good money to take these classes, isn't their mental health important as well? Young adults giggling during class can take away from what is very important to practitioners who enjoy and expect the benefits of yoga for the mental, physical, and spiritual benefits. I hope that management will seriously consider how these programs are implemented so that customers who are paying in full aren't effected negatively by those who do not respect others...community classes are already for free which is generous/great.

Barre is a mix of ballet, pilates, and yoga, and anyone can do it regardless of age -- I've seen teens to aunties (and gentlemen) crush it. PB offers: -foundations, an introductory class (think of it as a sample tasting!) -classic, the most popular class -empower, which is cardio-based -reform, a balance and core-focused class -define, which is strength-training -stretch and restore, a brief core and lovely meditation time PB also offers fun-filled themed classes like halloween, thanksgiving, holidays, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Beyoncé, BTS, and more! Some insurance companies offer to cheaper plan options, so ask if your insurance plan is one that offers it! Beyond that, the owner Gretchen is kind, welcoming, and friendly as are the front desk staff and instructors, who are the highlight of the studio.

I took a classic class on a Friday evening and an empower class the following morning. I got in a good workout and felt like a local when another client asked me where I got my sneakers from. I will definitely visit the studio again when I visit Honolulu. It is a bit hard to find the studio since it is located on the top floor of the Kahala mall. There is parking on the upper level of the mall adjacent to the studio.
