I hired FMU for a pre purchase inspection on a lamborghini aventador. I buy cars maybe about 1-2 times a year from all over the country, and I did not have a PPI shop in the Chicago area. The lambo dealers declined the PPI request, and so I was looking around on google and found FMU. Impressed by their number of reviews and caliber of cars they take in, I decided to give them a ring. Impeccable customer service, attention to detail, very responsive and reasonable rates, probably among the best of the PPI shops I have used. During initial phone consultation, they are very responsive to my questions and flexible on schedule. I request the car sit overnight so the tech can go over it during cold start in the morning, as that's usually when issues come up sometimes. I went through the things that I want them to pay attention to, they took it down and I had the tow truck scheduled. After delivery, they take a look over the car and took a lot of pictures on the cosmetic inspections. There were some cosmetic issues so they actually called to show me the pictures first, to see if that's something they should continue to work on, should i want to stop. I was never offered that option by any previous shops, goes to show how honest and genuinely helpful these guys are. I told them to go ahead as the issues are still somewhat acceptable. Over the next few hours, they went through the car in detail and pictures and description kept coming through the inspection app/link. The car had some immediate issues that require fixing, and these guys caught all the big ticket items such as leaking shocks and ac compressor. In the meantime, they are very communicative and the car sat on the lift, so if I have any additional questions they are available to go back and take a look. Even after the report is generated, they still spent the time to research and provide an estimate on all the deficiencies noted on the car with an invoice, which i can present to the dealer. It also helps me gauge the overall cost to purchase this car, and helps in making an informed decision on whether it's a good buy or not. They seem knowledgeable around these v12s which is hard to come by, and it's actually a great convenience to have them service or repair the cars before it gets shipped to me. Their rates are fair (certainly comparing to rates in California) and these guys work hard and are honest. You can always tell when a shop does very minimal work on PPIs and try to BS you a piece of paper with no pictures and a quick phone call, from my bad past experiences, which usually led to cars that i regretted buying and soon have to get rid of within months. Not FMU, this will be my spot for PPI and services in the Chicago area. read more

Mechanics are good, management is not. If you like paying obscure fees, then you'll like it here. I had a 99$ fee for shop supplies, when the work was just diagnosis at that point. Also, a $120 fee to use the Mercedes online catalog(not sure why that's passed down to the customer) They never gave me the deposit for the catalytic converter, which even dealerships do. They also said they don't make money on the "labor" at $220 an hour, which is why they don't discount parts, and won't let you bring in parts, when clearly you can buy it for 30% less online. read more

Took my car for an oil change and they did a great job and they were very fast. one of my biggest fears is how places handle your car behind the scenes. the nice thing about the shop beside the very very comfortable lounge area is you can see the whole shop and then working on your car. Would never take my car here ever again. I feel like they took my money and they didn't do the exhaust like I I wanted them to do it. We talked about having muffler and the have a cutout to buy pass the muffler. When I pick up the car they completely did something else. Instead of muffler they put resonators and didn't even put cutout. I was looking under the car and found two exhaust leaks where they didn't put gaskets. So i purchased a 2012 Fisker Karma from Las Vegas ! This first week i got it ... the AC stopped working then it leaked antifreeze ... i freaked out because there's no Fisker dealership in Chicago :( . The nearest location was in Troy Michigan ?!?! Stand up guys and techs...they are well versed in the exotic car segment. Had them install some KW's on my 93 NSX and i was very pleased. Communication skills are superb. Dropped my car off on Saturday morning and had it back by Tuesday as scheduled. Service - I was pleased with the level of communication i received here. There were certain height requirements i had and due to work I couldnt go back and forth. I was continuously updated via pics and phone calls for assurance. We went back and forth a few times before agreeing on something and when I saw it in person it was perfect! Price - Depends on what you compare it to. You can probably get the same install done at another shop for 1/2 of what i spent, but do you want to? Shop is well kept, guys keep the cars clean and respect your needs. I know i couldve gotten a better price but the peace of mind and comfort in knowing these guys are taking care of my car as if its their own is worth something to me as well. Overall - This place is eye candy. I saw cars here worth 2/3 x's as much as mine. You can walk around for a decent hour just admiring/drooling over every car around you. Let me shout it out.... Fluid MotorUnion is where you should go for maintenance / repair of your foreign auto. I live in the city of Chicago and have been taken advantage for years. Everyone knows it but what other option did we have? NONE, not anymore! I was told by an "inside source" in the maintenance / repair industry.......go to Fluid. When I found out that I was advised to do a valve cover gasket set replacement, power steering fluid and coolant flush and fill I was in search for the best in the suburbs.
