Had a very good experience having a timing belt, tensioner and pulley installed on my 24 year old car. (The car has somewhat of a reputation of being a pain to work on due to the lack of room in the engine compartment and placement of the engine.) Brought my 1999 Honda Accord into Langs. Problem check engine light on. They inspected the car thoroughly and found that the car had steering shafts. The engine light was for the evaporator. I have been taking my Toyota and Hyundai to the dealer for years and was fed up with their dishonesty, sales tactics, and slow service. After looking for reputable dealers in the area, I came across Lang's and I can't tell you how great my experience with them was! I spoke with Ray before my initial visit and he was not only personable on the phone, but also very professional and could tell that he was a genuinely good person. I brought my Hyundai in for a routine oil change and something that took 2-3 hours at the dealer took 45 minutes at Lang's. Not only that, but they were diligent in inspecting other areas of my vehicle and ensuring tire pressure was normal. Sometimes when I write my Yelp reviews I wonder if I am "letting the cat out of the bag" and will lose my new found treasure because "everyone will know", but since Lang's has been in the DG neighborhood since the 1950's I think the locals already know and I am the one just now catching on. This is a place is great! I recently purchased a 2020 and my husband was not interested in changing the oil, full synthetic, as he did with my previous car. I called around for prices and found Midas at $98 (and they would not honor my 20% coupon), Pep Boys at $94 and a local gas station at $64 but the winner was Lang's at $46. Yes, this included the new filter, valvoline oil, oil disposal (this is an additional charge at some oil change places), plus check tire pleasure and top off wiper fluids. All of this while I waited for a little over an hour. They had seating so you could watch over your car if you are the paranoid type, Keurig coffee and free WiKi. I'm not only sold & a fan, but I will definitely be back in the future. read more

I have 3 cars and have gone to quite a few different shops & stores for oil changes, tires, wiper blades, etc. over the years but when I have more extensive work to be done I've never been over the top satisfied anywhere. I keep my cars very clean inside and out at all times, but 6 months ago when I picked up my car after an oil change at a local shop in Downers Grove there was grease and dirt smeared all over my steering wheel, steering column, center armrest, driver's door armrest, power window controls, door panel including my speaker grill, and the door sill when you open the door. So someone with filthy hands and boots dragged their hands and boots all over my car getting in and out of my car. Unacceptable. I called and they said no that wasn't them, as if I didn't know my car didn't have filth all over it when I dropped it off that day. I didn't bring it in filthy that day or the times I brought it there in the past. My car has very light gray leather interior, so if not kept clean dirt is very noticeable. They didn't care at all, denied it was them as if I was lying about it or someone else between the time I dropped it off with them and the time they finished working on it had snuck in there without their knowledge and rubbed grease all over the inside of my vehicle. So they did nothing so I scrubbed it all clean and started looking online for a real mechanic. Lang's reviews are hard to believe they're so good so had to try them, but long story short I've been there several times now with 2 different cars and they are very communicative, detailed, upfront and honest, and do great work quicker than I needed or expected. Best pleasant surprise I had though was that without telling them of this story, when I picked up the car there was a plastic cover over the steering wheel like a shower cap, another one covering my entire seat all the way up and over the headrest as well as the paper floormat. I actually took a picture of it I was so impressed by it! Imagine a mechanic that does great work on your car in a more than reasonable timeframe AND respects the interior of your car. read more

I kept dealing for the past several months with a check engine light that other shops kept multi diagnosing saying this might be the problem or this might be causing it, and after multiple trips to other shops and wasted money that just couldn't get the job done right, I finally stumbled upon Lang's and went here because of all the positive reviews...and boy did they live up to it and then some! I have been taking my cars to this auto service for over a few years now. Every time I found that I have received the best service I could ask for. From break pads to axle problems to any other mechanical issues these guys take care of it all. The main mechanic that I use here it is Tim and he has been very honest and has always explained every issue to me. The turnaround time is also really fast. Most of the time I can drop off my car in the morning and pick it up in the evening. It's also nice that this place is located in the heart of Downers Grove right by the train tracks. There have been times that I have had to go to the city on the train and I would drop off the car for repairs and then pick it up afterwards. We had a fantastic experience at Lang's. They came highly recommended by my brother who not only had his Accord but Camry serviced there. He told me that Lang's was the third estimate he had gotten and was very impressed with their honesty and integrity. Other repairs deemed urgent and mandatory by other repair shops, were not labeled as such by Lang's who actually used Totyota and Honda specifications as their guidelines. They took photos of my brothers cars and compared them to what can be found on the manufacturers website and that's how they determined that he had plenty of time before the repairs truly were necessary. Because of their honesty, though they were priced a little higher than other places, my brother chose to do his repairs here. After hearing what a great experience he had here, my parents also took their car to Lang's and reported similar sentiments. So naturally when it was time to service my cars, I took both to Lang's. For starters, BMW of Westmont quoted me $1000 for my rear brakes. Lang's put in the same exact brakes for $600. They charged us $400 for our Infiniti and even that was less than the dealer quoted, so we were quite happy. It's not just the pricing and integrity that makes Lang's a winner. The staff here is really accommodating and friendly as well. It was a pleasure working with Pat. Moving forward, all of our maintenance and repairs will be done at Lang's. What a breath of fresh air to know that there are still people around who do business with integrity instead of preying on consumers who may not always be the most well informed. Update -- 3 years later, have to drop a star from my initial 5 star review I've had some more work done since 2011 and have realized what this shop is good at and what they lack. The good: -- They do repairs fast, well, and at a low cost. -- They're not going to take advantage of you. -- Service experience is kind and well-thought-out The bad: -- Sometimes lowest cost isn't best. Components used in my break job lasted maybe 1/3 as long as the previous shops' components -- When they're super busy (thanks to yelp), things get sloppy. I work 6am to 4:30pm so it was hard to find a mechanic to fix my broken headlight. Ray at Lang's was incredible though. I messaged a bunch of auto shops through yelp on my break asking for quotes. All of them told me to call for more information except for Ray. He was able to give me a quote, schedule the day and let me know when it was all done via email. I ended up getting my headlight fixed and an oil change all for less than I would have paid to buy and install the new headlight myself. It is really an auto shop for the modern era of communication. Me and my husband recently moved to Downers Grove from Chicago, so we never used any Auto-repair shop in this area. Lang's Auto Service is located close to our home, so we visited this shop a couple days ago. Two weeks ago our Audi a4 stared making a strange knocking sound from the front, also check engine came out. We wasn't sure what was wrong with our car. I called Joe's on a Friday afternoon and explained the issues on the phone. They told us to bring the car Monday morning. They checked it out, fixed everything with out a problem. Car wouldn't start. Called Lang's based on the one review on here. The guy on the phone was very nice and spent a good amount of time describing what the problem could be and the possible prices to fix. A lot of repair shops can come across as fast talkers or shady and you get a bad feeling about them. But got a good feeling about the guys at this place after talking to them. Had the car towed there on a Tues at noon and they got to it by 2:30. Turned out to be a very easy fix with the battery cable and they only charged for the amount of time they actually spent working on it, which was 30 mins. They could've just rounded it to an hour like most other shops probably do, but they didn't. They seem like good guys working there, honest, and good customer service. Talked to 2 diffferent guys and both were really knowledgeable and took time to explain different things about the car and how to avoid the same problem in the future. Found this place on Yelp and tried it because of the reviews. It really is as good as it gets. How many places have 4.5 stars after 20 reviews? First, I spent the first 10 years of driving taking my car to the family mechanic who built race cars for himself. So, when I moved to the West suburbs, I was looking for someone reliable. Lang's is relable and incredible. Excellent customer service. The best there is in any service-based business. If our teachers were as good as Lang's mechanics, our kids would be some smart M------F-------!!!! They are slightly more expensive, but they are incredibly knowledgeable. It's worth paying a few extra bucks knowing you're car is going to be fixed correctly. I have been here twice with both of my cars. Both times, I received impeccable service. I have a Sebring with 204,000 miles. I took it to Lang's for a check over and to get the Upper Control Arms and Power Steering Belt replaced. I drove it the next day to Houston (1100 miles) with no problems (stop over in Little Rock). I drove it back from Austin, TX straight home in 105 degree temperatures (1150 miles).. It's been about 7000 miles and 2 months since my service and the car drives so much better. Excellent service. Customer for life! read more

My husband and I have taken both of our cars to Lang's several times and been very pleased. In my opinion, the prices ARE a little bit high. However, as a female I appreciate that the staff at Lang's doesn't give me the run around. I don't feel like they are trying to take advantage of me, or my lack of knowledge about cars. I happened to be in the Downer's Grove area for a dental appointment. I was a couple hours early so thanks to Yelp it helped me find Langs Auto Service. I had needed an oil change and my tires looked at and rotated. When I got there I was anticipating a long wait as most auto shops with these kinds of great reviews are usually very busy. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by Ray. I asked him how long it would be as I only have about an hour and a half and he said there were a few cars ahead of me but he could probably squeeze me in for an oil change and tire rotation and get me out in about an hour. So I dropped my car off and explored beautiful downtown D Gizzle for a bit while Ray and Co. worked on my car. I drive an Inifinit G35 so he made sure Tim worked on my car since he's very familiar with those cars. I had a few indicator lights on so he said he'd scan those for free and make sure nothing was wrong. Not only did I get out of there within an hour, like Ray said, but I got great service and they seemed really honest, which is unfortunately not the norm with auto mechanics. Brought my 1997 (224,000 miles) Nissan Maxima in to find out if the car is worth fixing. They were very honest about what should be fixed and what shouldn't due to the car's age. They said my car is actually in pretty good condition with the age/mileage. I ended up decided to donate my car to Purple Heart I really appreciate the great customer service and how they explain everything to you ahead of time so there's no surprises when you get your bill at the end. Due to the great reputation/service, the shop is very busy. Expect to wait at least a week before you can get your car in for service. Call first to make an appointment. If someone cancels, they might be able to get you in sooner. read more

If you want good auto service from mechanics that you can trust then this is the company to go to. They are incredibly professional, very quick, and patient with their customers. If you want them to explain to you what is wrong with your vehicle they will take the time to tell you what every part they are working on does, and why it is important to fix or not fix. Took my brother-in-law's old Corolla here a few weeks ago, and these guys have customer service down like a science. Had an oil change and all the fluids needed to be switched out. They found a noise coming from the transmission, and it was no prob for them to have one of the mechanics take a drive with me for a few blocks to show me exactly what they were talking about. They also gave me a discount on a brake service inspection to boot. I've dealt with Ray, Jake, and Dave, and they're great! If you have to wait around for a few hours, Lang's is at a great location. There are a few coffee shops, the Downers Grove library, and some restaurants to burn some time at within a short walking distance. Caribou Coffee (across the train tracks) is my favorite coffee spot while Thai Cafe (across the street from the shop) has pretty stellar Yelp reviews too. What more do you need? read more

My 17 year old daughter and her boyfriend were traveling to Great America (3 hours from us) when their brake lines blew out. I got on Yelp to find an auto repair shop near where they were stranded and saw the reviews. Our tow fee was $120 (provided by Action Towing) and the brake line with labor cost $354 ($282 in labor). Our car didn't get there until about 2:30 and they closed at 5. They were so kind to our kids and when my husband arrived they committed to getting it done so he didn't have to drive home and come back to pick up the car (which would have added another 6 hours of our time and gas). It was a 3 hour job and they worked hard to complete it. They tested their work and sent them on their way a little after 5pm with a kind and compassionate attitude. Let me start by saying that we have taken our vehicles her for a few years now and have always had great service. This week, the service went above and beyond. I had an issue the day after having our brakes repaired at Lang's. I phoned them and they sent a mechanic within 5 minutes. After diagnosing the problem, they repaired my car (without charging a thing, although the easily could have!). We had to wait on parts so we were without our car for 2 days, but I was okay with that. I got home tonight and my husband said there was a Starbuck's gift card for me on the counter from Lang's, because they felt badly that the issue had happened to me with my small children in the car!!! I mean...talking about excellent customer service!!!!These guys do great work and they now have our loyalty for as long as we require service.
