I recently placed an order for an assortment of mini cupcakes/pies/mousse cups/etc for my wedding reception dessert bar. It was such a hit! And more importantly to me, everything was absolutely delicious and eggless!!! No one could even tell the difference! Lara worked with me in a short period of time, was able to provide all the dessert items I wanted for tasting as well. It was a pleasure working with her! read more

I have stage 4 lung cancer. And called Fluffy Thoughts to have a cake made for my birthday. I asked if they could make a cake with STEVIA since I can't have any sugar. The lady over phone said they cannot do it, so I asked to speak with to head baker, the head baker then refused as well..saying they don't have any recipes for cakes using stevia!! YOU JUST SUBSTITUTE THE SUGAR WITH STEVIA and I even offered to buy the stevia. As I hung up the phone almost in tears my coworkers told me to write this review. I feel violated over the lack of unkindness and willing to improvise a simple ingredient due to one's health condition. read more

We wanted a custom cake and was told by a friend that this was the place to go. We finalized a design and was told to put a 50% deposit down before work would commence we were then called back after our card had been charged and were told "that the order was placed too late and you will NOT be getting a cake." This was for a birthday, now we are without a cake. I do not tolerate businesses who does not take responsibility and treat their customers so rudely by both the staff member (Raphael) and owner (Lara). There was NO apology, just good old bad news and your lost. Lucky, we live in an area where there many AMAZING bakeries. I will never order anything from them. This will not ruin the party I'm planning! read more

We have waited a month for any response from Fluffy Thoughts regarding a very disappointing cake. Nothing. So on to social media. We have used this bakery years past so we decided to order our granddaughter's first birthday cake from them. The cake was awful. It was tasteless, dry (stale? previously frozen?) and the icing tasted like sweet whipped plastic. It was embarrassing serving it to our guests...and no one took more than two bites. For $200+! In addition, when I mentioned this to my bridge group...several ladies echoed the same complaint about their last purchases. Minimally, they should have at least responded to my email. I regret not taking the cake back that afternoon and having the staff eat it. read more

I have two specialty cakes here and can I tell you - they do a FABULOUS job when you bring in a picture and ask them to do a sugar image. I don't like sweets so I never partake, but all my friends and family love this place too. They have even accommodated last minute requests but I think mostly because we are pretty loyal customers. Thank you for being a reputable, honest company. Even saw they have a kiosk at the Washington Nationals stadium! read more

I needed a small wedding-like cake for my parents 50th anniversary lunch and Fluffy Thoughts really came through for me! The entire process was easy and friendly. I ordered a cake with pictures printed on it, so cool! All I had to do was email the images I wanted and they did the rest. It was beautiful. I would post a picture but don't know how, hahaha Thank you Fluffy Thoughts! read more

I never realized how spoiled I was before leaving away for Grad school. Fluffy Thoughts is THE BEST. Ever see the FRIENDS episode where Joey is eating Rachel's Trifle, that's how I feel about everything that comes out of this place! Brownies? GOOD, Cupcakes? GOOD, CakePops? Good, French Macs? GOOOOOOD. I probably miss them almost as much as my parents. And the cakes? The bee's knees. Ordered a red velvet with cream cheese filling. They recommended some chocolate crunchies or something with the filling and I just went along. So glad I did. Whole cake was gone at the end of the night. The cake, cream cheese frosting, and crunchies just worked so perfectly together. There was never any chance there being leftovers at end of the night. Pretty awesome, because I called and didn't really know what I wanted, but they were nice enough to work with me. I ordered a simple cake because I'm a simple guy, but their cake designs are freaking extravagant. While I was waiting for my cake to be boxed, another lady was picking a ridiculous baby shower cake. Mines looked nice, but it def didn't look like I was going to meet the Queen of England. Apparently baby showers are a big deal around here. read more

After reading reviews to decide on a shower cake Fluffy Thoughts Cakes was rated quite well. Never again will I base a decision on reviews. Ordered a cake from the website collections. Small cake, 1/4 sheet cake, nothing special, no fancy decoration, surprised at the price ($150.00) but was assured it was worth it. I was so disappointed and feel very taken advantage of. The cake was so dry and the icing tasted like they forgot to add sugar, then the filling was not spread out to the ends. This was such a scam. Two days before I picked up this cake, I bought a sheet cake from Safeway and paid $60.00 and it was five times better. So disappointed, buyer beware! You will not get what you pay for here. read more

If there was 0 star, I would've given this shop that. I just called to ask some questions. The woman who responded my call told me that she'd give me a call back in a few minutes and she did. As soon as I picked up the call, she said "So what's the problem?" I was in awe that the first thing out of mouth is "What's the problem?" Before we even got to the business. I said to her "I don't have a problem. I just have some questions." And she said "So what's up?" in an extremely rude manner. No matter how good their cakes are (I don't even know because I didn't even get a chance to taste it or work with them.), I will not be doing a business that represents that kind of customer service. There are a ton of other options in this area. If you want to have a successful business, know to train your employees on basic manners. read more

Excellent customer service, very creative work, perfect taste and ready on time as promised. Just did a special order cake with the "Le Petit Prince" theme for our daughter's baby shower. We used Fluffy Thoughts for our Wedding Cupcakes, and I firstly have to say that the Cupcakes were delicious and very pretty! Every one of our guests said they enjoyed them and that the quality was good. The reason I leave such a low review is because of their customer service. Every time we entered their establishment, we never felt like they had the time of day for us. When we first had our tasting, (which went very well) we saw them working on an large extravagant cake, so thought we would be in good hands for our very simple request of cupcakes. Once we started planning our order, our simple requests of color and fillings were met with excuses and uncertainty. This feeling of not being cared about only grew because when we attempted to meet them, they tried to rush us out the door as soon as possible. I understand that it is a small, busy shop, but this created a lot of frustration regarding our special day. If you are looking for something very simple, then the cupcakes were very tasty, but in my experience, a personal touch would have made our experience more enjoyable. read more

Cupcakes are good here, but service is horrendous. I have been a loyal customer for years and am surely disappointed about my latest experience. On this visit I was the only person in the bakery and was ignored for a while. I placed my order and then also inquired about vegan cake. I was told to call or email for custom orders. I asked how calling to order was any different than ordering in person. Still not sure. A few people walked in after me and the worker proceeded to help them promptly and kindly. He then rang someone up ahead of me and started taking the next person's order, simply because I was asking about a custom order. Perhaps someone else could've come to help me complete my order? Or people could wait their turn as I did? I decided to forego the custom order because the service is just not worth it. I'll order from Lemonade Bakery instead! read more

Fluffy Thoughts is the BOMB!! I recently got married and chose FT for our wedding cake. The staff was very professional and patient as I asked questions. The cake was to be delivered a week and a half later, and they did not miss a beat. The cake was delivered to the location early, and it was raining! Not only did they provide great service, but the cake was beautiful and so good! FT helped make my day very special. read more

We have had Fluffy Thoughts make both of our children's 1st birthday cakes and have been very pleased with the results. Our most recent cake was ordered last minute and Fluffy Thoughts was able to put together a pretty elaborate two-tiered cake with a custom fondant animal topper just as ordered with less than a week's notice. Great customer service! And the cake was delicious - we got the wedding white cake with strawberry cream cheese filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. Beautiful and delicious! I will also add that for our first child's cake a couple years ago, there was a mix up on our order. The woman who took our order over the phone had incorrectly assumed we wanted the same exact cake as a cake on their website even though I had only said I wanted the same topper but plain frosting on the rest of the cake. When I pointed out the error and said I was not happy with the look of the cake, the decorator came out and immediately started making suggestions to fix the error. She did a quick fix of adding polka dots over the design I did not like and the cake came out really nice in the end. So all that to say, when I wasn't immediately pleased with the cake, they made sure to fix it right away! And in the end, we were thrilled with the look of that cake as well and it was also delicious. read more

I paid hundreds of dollars for my wedding cake and they made it incorrectly. It took several emails and calls to get in contact with them after the wedding, and they were not apologetic. I had requested three different types of cake/frosting for my three tier cake. Instead of making the three different types, they made two of the tiers the same flavor. I had assumed that after paying hundreds of dollars that they would pay attention to the details, but I think this bakery has trouble with that based on the other reviews I have read. I don't think I would be so disappointed if the customer service after the mistake was better. If someone had replied back to my email immediately and voiced their apologies, that would have been nice. My experience with this bakery was disappointing. If you're thinking of ordering your wedding cake here, I recommend you look elsewhere. read more

Fluffy Thoughts Cakes - Korean 1st Birthday Cake - Bakeries Near Me - McLean, Virginia

I ordered an cake from Fluffy Thought intended for my husband's special 60th birthday party, and arrived in the morning of the party to pay and pick up my cake. But the cashier told me that my friend had already paid and will bring it with her when she come to the party. So I returned home without picking up my cake. When my friend arrived at the party I asked her where is the cake, she was completely shocked telling me that she did in fact pay for the cake, but no one has told her anything about picking it up! By the time we went to fluffy thought to pick up my husband's birthday cake the store already closed and the owner(Lora) wouldn't pick up her phone. And knowing there are around 40 guests at my house waiting for the cake, we ended up buying three cakes from Whole Food instead and stacked them up together. We had a wonderful evening so far, but for this one cake I had to leave all of them unattended by the host. The next day my friend and I returned to the store to ask the owner about the cake, and we wished for an an apology. When we asked for the owner Lora, one of the employee told us she wasn't here. (However we in fact did see Lora in the inside of the shop) The employee rudely told us that it was our own fault we forgot to pick up the cake and it has nothing to do with the store. But come on IT'S A HUGE CAKE SITTING ON YOUR DESK!!! And you couldn't at least gave a call? If we hadn't pay for the cake, I can almost 100% sure Lora would call us before they close and wait for us! As our argument continued, Lora decided to show up and talk to us, brusquely rub it in our face by saying her cake is delicious and we could still take it home and eat it. BUT I DON'T WANT TO EAT THAT CAKE! THE SPECIAL OCCASION FOR MY HUSBAND IS OVER! I DON'T NEED a beautiful cake anymore! And just before we leave left the store we told her that because of her service we don't plan on buying anything form her store anymore, and guess what she said? She said good, because if we do come back, SHE WOULD CALL THE COP ON US. What kind of attitude is that? THREATENING their customer!! So in the end of all this, I paid $250 for a supposingly beautiful and delicious cake and ended up never even saw what it looks like. It really is PATHETIC how all Lora cares about is her money instead of how she was treating her customer. read more

Within the past few years I've ordered a handful of cakes from Fluffy Thoughts Cakes-- all delicious and beautiful! I was very impressed with the tasting and decided to choose Fluffy Thoughts, however when my Big Day came I was disappointed the cake did not taste as good as the tasing. I'm thinking it was not taken out of freezer in enough time. It arrived two hours before my wedding and we didn't eat it until 5 or 6 and it still was cold, which I truly believe it's because it was still cold. Also, I was disappointed with the company never followed up to see if the service was to my satisfaction. Disappointed customer! read more

I had a very bad experience with Fluffy Thoughts and I do not recommend anyone go there for a special event cake. I ordered a cake from them for our engagment party mostly because they price they offered was less expensive than other bakeries we checked with. We wanted a very specific design and sent them pictures and exact instructions for how it was to be completed. The bakery promised us a sketch but never delivered. When we picked up the cake just before our party we were floored. It looked like a Ravens Super Bowl cake! The craftsmanship was terrible! We asked for a refund but they would not grant us one. Very poor customer service. Again, I do not recommend ordering cakes there!! UPDATE: I would also like to point out how inapporpriate it is that the owner of Fluffy Thoughts, Lara, commented on my review trying to give her take on what happened with my engagement cake (and blaming me in the process) when she didn't have the decency to call me herself to discuss this. She had an associate contact me who also tried to blame me when the fact of the matter is that if they had showed me a sketch of the cake as promised this entire matter would have been avoided. If you promise a customer a sketch, and your scanner breaks down: go to Kinkos. Mail it. Do something. AGAIN, STAY AWAY FROM FLUFFY THOUGHTS if you value your own piece of mind, good customer service and good work. read more

Cupcakes are delicious but I agree with others about poor service. That is why I am giving 3 stars but want to give 2 as it let a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended). Yesterday there was no guy at the cash register but two young girls. I asked if they had any day old cupcakes (to me they taste just as good and I don't want to pay $3 per cupcake ). The one girl said no and the other pointed at some and said they are two days old. I said how much are those? And she said $1.50. I said is that the same price as the 1 day old (mind you they did not want to sell me 2 day old ones - maybe they were saving for themselves )? Yes she said. Poor customer service and judgement call. She was young but give me 25 cents off or a cookie added in. I do think that someone older was around to ask. His has been my experience - poor customer service. If their cakes are good it does not matter. Why do business with a company that gives poor service? More training if staff needed. From one business owner to the next and not saying that mine is perfect. Another time I got the grumpy guy. I even gave him a tip and the jar that you feel compelled to dump your change! read more

This review is for a cake tasting. I called Fluffy Thoughts and spoke to a friendly associate. I explained that I have several *severe* food allergies. The associate assured me that they have requests like ours, "all the time..." and that the next step was to pick flavors to try. Fluffy has an extensive and delicious menu for wedding cakes. Several red flags: 1. They emailed me several weeks before the tasting with a questionnaire about the wedding and our flavor choices. I emailed back within the week and never heard back. 2. Three days before our tasting I received an email stating that they did not hear from us and our appointment would be cancelled if we did not email our flavor request. I emailed back. We heard nothing. I stressed in this email our food restrictions. 3. The day of the tasting we arrived and were taken to the bakery. They have a tasting room, but they said another bride was coming in that day. I was surprised...since we were there first, why we weren't offered the lovely room. Instead, we were taken to the bakery where there were several bar stools. I had to put my purse on the bottom of the table where the other employees keep their things. Meanwhile, in the tasting room next door a bride and her mother were having a beautiful tasting - by beautiful I mean their strawberry icing had real strawberries. Our strawberry icing did not have real strawberries. I brought this up to the person working with us and she said, "sorry that was an oversight on my part." hmmm 4. THE WORSE PART. We were given one flavor of cake. It turns out they do not often have requests like ours. I don't know where the miscommunication started. I called, emailed twice...ONE FLAVOR. They told me they can also do a chocolate cake ...but we didn't get to try it because they didn't make it. What was the point of telling us to pick flavors if they only offered two? 5. The bride in the tasting room next to us was working with someone who used colored pencils to design a beautiful cake. I asked our associate why we weren't given a design like that...and she stated, "maybe they wanted a more elaborate design than yours." Hahaha well...how would you know what type of design I wanted if you didn't take the time to give me that type of service? The only reason I know what the other bride was up to was because I went into the bakery after our tasting to purchase some cupcakes for my family to try. What a disappointment. We were completely dismissed and I have a feeling it was because of my allergies. I wish the sales team would have just let us down easy on the phone. All they needed to say was, "we love making specialty cakes, but we only offer two flavors based on your request." I would have had much better expectations. I can't explain the lack of service we received the day of or the difference in service. I hate knocking local businesses, but this was a terrible experience. read more

To be fair, I didn't buy a cake at Fluffy Thoughts. Only a cupcake. The place is totally hidden away in the lower level of a boring looking building in the corner of Old Chain Bridge Rd and Beverly. The cupcakes and the pastries in general all look very appetizing on display but when I asked about cupcake flavors I was disappointed to find most of them to be pretty traditional. This was disappointing only because I drove all the way to McLean after hearing that Fluffy Thoughts specialized in unique cupcake flavors such as an Apple Bacon cupcake and a cayenne sprinkled cupcake. Since none of these were available I settled for the most unique one in the bunch, the Tiramisu. I had previously read that Fluffy Thoughts' Tiramisu cupcake came with "mascarpone and a Kahlua-dipped lady finger on top", but the one I got didn't have anything Kahlua-dipped. It did come with a lady finger however, but it was kind of soggy and stale. The icing was amazing though, creamy and extremely flavorful, but sadly, it stood in sharp contrast with the cake itself, which was rather bland and not very moist. All in all, there really wasn't much "Tiramisu" flavor anywhere in the cupcake, and for about $3 per cupcake that's really a shame. read more

Soooo, the wife kept telling me about Fluffy Thoughts and would occasionally bring home the goods for us to fight over and complain that my only-child-ass did not share the other half of the cupcake. Well, it was soo good that I'd do it again (and still do.). Their cupcakes are tasty, from frosting to cake, they're a well rounded piece of work. In Yelping terms I'd give the cake a 4 and the frosting a 5 if you want to get specific. I finally found the place and this is the only random thing about FT is the location. Okay I know McLean is not this huge metropolis but the location is in this random office building in the back that i always run into when I don't need a cupcake fix and can never find it when I really need a fix. Maybe its the fact that McLean's office buildings all look alike/boring...but i digress. Anyhoo, back to the cupcakes, give their specials a try! I tried this maple bacon (sounds gnarley but it was goood) thing that looked weird and random but i still think about it to this day. The red velvet (which all cupcakes shops should be judged by as a standard) is tasty piece of work that color's your mouth red and the frosting gives you a sugar high that sends you up fast and then drops you down like a bad habit. The frosting hangover will leave you an irritable mess; kicking the dog and telling the 3-year-old that you've always hated Dora the Explorer and will burn all the DVD's if you hear one more round of "We did it!" Wow, "That bad?" say ye Yelpers? Yes that good and that bad. Fill your head full of fluffy thoughts McLean. read more

I've had Fluffy Thoughts before with friends bringing back treats or at Nationals Stadium, but it was only until recently that I went to the actual bakery. We had visited Fluffy Thoughts for our cake tasting and decided to pick up a cupcake to take home. The cupcake we chose was the smore cupcake; we only got one to share because we were quite full after the tasting (more about the tasting in a bit). The stop itself is small but decorated with various cake samples. Their display case has different cupcakes and macaroons of the day. They also make gluten free cupcakes, which is always a plus. They have one small tasting room in the front but they also do tastings in their kitchen where the decorators work. Now to the tasting. We arrived a few minutes early for a tasting which was fine. It gave us a chance to look at the different cake designs. They also offered us fresh coffee on the house for our tasting. If you decide to have a tasting at Fluffy Thoughts, appointments are needed. When it was time for our appointment, we were led to the kitchen where the cake decorators worked. The tasting went relatively smoothly, though they forgot one of the cakes flavors we had asked for. They apologized and quickly made it up by giving us mini cupcakes with the flavors we tried. We tried the red velvet, chocolate, and white cake, with different frostings: vanilla, 2 types if coconut, 2 types of strawberry, blackberry, coffee, cookies and cream, passion fruit puree, and chocolate ganache. It was nice being able to add the amount of frosting to the cake that we wanted to really get the flavors. The decorators worked with us to design our cake and cupcake and were mindful of the fact that we are on a budget. Overall good experience and good experience. We shall see what we choose! read more

I will have to say I am very disappointed in the customer service. Their cupcakes are really not great but I have ordered cakes and such from them for the past 6 years b/c of loyalty to the store and they do look pretty. I have been trying to order cupcakes for my daughters school for the past week and either I am put on hold and forgotten about or when I have been able to put in my order they have gotten it incorrect AND then blamed me saying "well that's what you said you wanted!!" I even emailed the owner and have not heard back from her. Very disappointed. I have now placed my order with Georgetown Cupcakes in Bethesda - with a great online ordering system AND they will deliver to my daughters school. I am sad that I can no longer support this local business. I was hoping they would fill this void in the McLean area, but I feel it is lacking customer service. read more

I ordered a 9" cake to bring to a dinner party for a friend who's husband just past away, it was their wedding anniversary. The cake was NOT ready. The person who took the order wrote down the wrong date. The owner kept saying the date was wrong not trying to help resolve the issue. Fortunately, there was an 8" cake in the oven. My husband and son waited while it cooked and cooled and was ready to take. I asked that nothing be written on the cake and yet they wrote "Thinking of you" on the cake!!! What the heck?? The cupcakes from Fluffy Thoughts are good enough, but the customer service is not. When I placed my order for 2 dozen cupcakes for my daughter's birthday (a week in advance), I asked that a list of ingredients be printed and included with the order. Rude owner with an attitude"take it or leave attitude". The owner may be highly educated and this may be a great, passionate hobby, but bottom line is that you have a store and you are selling cupcakes to your customers, not your rude, aloof attitude or your education for that matter! Had wanted a birthday cake from Fluffy Thoughts to celebrate multiple family birthdays. Had driven to the store, a considerable distance from my home, to speak with someone about the order only to find the store closed because of weather conditions. Understandable. Went the following day only to be told they cut off orders as it was "wedding season". Asked to speak with manager. Asked if she would recommend another bakery only to be told she didn't know any other pastry chefs in area she would recommend. So, even though their cakes are delicious, would not return to store or give more stars because of the service.
