    Ox cheek and béchamel pizza!!!!
    Alice C.

We came here with a group of friends for my birthday. Now we were awkward from the word go, firstly we booked the table for 10 people however this grew and grew, to being 21 I think. Now they were very honest from the start, admitting they may struggle with the large group as the pizza oven will only take 4 pizzas at a time. They did accommodate us, but wanted £100 cash deposit to hold the table, fair enough I suppose. The decor is modern and open plan, you can see through to the kitchen and pizza oven which looks amazing (I want one). The staff were really friendly and let us order and pay for drinks individually at our tables, and despite there being a few hiccups ( the till crashed, and some leaking pipes) the staff sorted it out and most people were none the wiser. I ordered the Ox cheek and Béchamel sauce pizza, I had heard many good things about it and well, it was probably the best pizza I have ever eaten. Served on a sour dough base it was really light and not too stodgy, yummy!! The topping was so tasty, on my next visit I'll find it difficult to try something else on the menu, cause I want to eat this again and again. I love Flour and Ash, I'll definitely be going back perhaps with a smaller group next time so you can really take it all in.

Speck, artichoke, tomato, mozzarella and egg pizza

It was a sticky Saturday afternoon, we hadn't eaten all day and, by jove, we were ravenous. After wandering for a while we decided a decent pizza was in order. Fortunately, Flour & Ash was nearby. The place is light and comfortably spaced, good for a large group - we were six - and also suitable for couples. I'm not a big drinker but others in my party noted a terrific selection of tasty local beers. I enjoyed a sea bass ceviche for a starter; having been to Peru, I found it as delicious and zingy as any in Lima. Plus, the accompanying freshly baked sourdough slices boded extremely well. Now, the pizza. They've an excellent deal where all pizzas are £9 before 6.30. Naturally I went for a pricey one that comprised speck, artichoke and an egg, normally £13. If you like your meat, there are also pulled pork and lamb pizza options, although lamb isn't included in the £9 deal. The pizzas aren't the best I've had, but they are better than most. Excellent fluffy, crispy dough. Perhaps too much olive oil for my taste, and I had to add a fair amount of salt. For afters, there are some unusual sorbet and ice cream flavours. We tried the date and toffee, which was not too sweet, in a good way. We were there for a couple of hours and the staff were just the right level of attentive. A most relaxing way to spend the afternoon. Recommended.

Flour & Ash is a naughty little pizza joint where they know what they're doing. They've got the mad skills. Mad skills. General ambiance - friendly, inclusive, not at all snobbish about their pizza (although they could afford to be if they wanted to, given the quality). Friendly + unobtrusive staff, but make sure you book way in advance (a week in advance) as it gets fully booked for busy times. For this joint, because the pizzas are so good, I would recommend sharing a few pizzas (say, 2 between 3) so that you get a sample of the range. More variety. We went for the spinach, egg and black olive one and the 3 cheeses. The spinach one was ace. Every bite tasted different. The crust wasn't too doughy, which is often a problem with these pizza places - you feel like you're consuming a whole loaf of bread along with your pizza. It was actually JUICY, which is not an adjective I have ever used to describe a pizza before. Summary: '...and it was good.' The 'Three Local Cheeses' one was also very decent. I like the idea of a 3, not 4 cheeses. That's all Flour & Ash need. You could see and taste all the individual cheeses, too. It wasn't just one conglomerated cheesy mess. The pizza is strong in this one.

It was pretty busy when we got there but luckily our group was small, three of us. We were seated on the 2nd floor which was pretty roomy and a bit warm but then again, we are in a pizzeria. I ended up ordering the La Bella Vita pizza which had mozzarella, pepperoni sausage, Italian salame, torn chicken breast, and bacon. It was delicious and the cheese was perfect and not too cheesy. The sauce on the pizza had a great taste that put it over the top, amazing. I paired it well with my Aperol Spritz and took in the views while eating. Our waitress was great and recommended some must see locations while we were in town. She was great. If I ever come back to Bath, I will definitely stop by again because there were some other menu items that caught my eye and plus, the service was great.

Shared one of their specialty pizzas (very tasty, only wish there'd been a bit more generous helpings of the meat topping, as not every slice had it), Caesar salad (big portion, perfect for sharing), and a sampler of their dipping sauces (for the crust -- so good!). They also brought out a pitcher of cold water for the table (an appreciated touch). Would recommend!

I've frequented it many times, perhaps a few too many whilst I was still at college, and the late night pizzas really are quite a selling point - all night they'll serve the traditional and very high quality pizzas to their gradually drunker clientelle. You can take your pick with seating - there's a comfy room with sofas, and the aforementioned fire, to the left of the bar, or else the main room with the poster wallpapered walls has tables, chairs and benches. Without fail getting a seat is always a bit of an art when I've been here, but that's more part of Renatos' charm rather than a failing. Come here more than once and you'll see the same staff - it's a closely run family business. They also own the restaurant across the road (which has the same name), which is a far more traditional restaurant affair and has a wider variety on the menu than just pizza. Both sides of the road are a must.
