This is my personal favourite, the high ceilings and grand architecture are the main features, the best pizzas in town, perfect of a romantic meal for 2, or a large party. great at lunch times and early evenings as its quiet

The drinks are reasonably priced and there is always a good selection, in the bar area you can order a pizza which is cooked fresh there and then and they serve the delicious pizza right into the early hours, it's a popular after work, after gig/theatre bar and it is without doubt my favourite bar in Bristol - I hope that in 20 years time I'm still eating pizza and drinking pints of cider in Renatos

With a…read morereally nice atmosphere and fairly cheap prices, open fire in the winter and walls entirely adorned with theatre posters or signed photos of various actors from over the years, this is an excellent bar/restaurant which is really worth a look in. I've frequented it many times, perhaps a few too many whilst I was still at college, and the late night pizzas really are quite a selling point - all night they'll serve the traditional and very high quality pizzas to their gradually drunker clientelle. You can take your pick with seating - there's a comfy room with sofas, and the aforementioned fire, to the left of the bar, or else the main room with the poster wallpapered walls has tables, chairs and benches. Without fail getting a seat is always a bit of an art when I've been here, but that's more part of Renatos' charm rather than a failing. Come here more than once and you'll see the same staff - it's a closely run family business. They also own the restaurant across the road (which has the same name), which is a far more traditional restaurant affair and has a wider variety on the menu than just pizza. Both sides of the road are a must.

I love pizza! I love Gloucester Road. I love Flour and Ash!…read more It's been a while since I've found a small pizza place that I've absolutely loved. There's a few good places to 'grab a slice' in Bristol, but none quite like Flour and Ash. The restaurant is intimately small, with really nice, large windows and a row of tables against each wall and a row a bigger tables through the middle of the restaurant. Now, the pizza. OMG, the pizza! I was lucky enough to go with a few people, so I got to try a slice of a few, but the stand outs for me was the Ox Cheek and the Filler Steak. The Ox Cheek had a béchamel base with Ox cheek and parmesan, which was surprisingly amazing. It wouldn't have been something I normally went for, as it didn't have tomato base, but I saw it on a recent blog post so had to try it. When I go again I'll try something else, but I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't been before. The fillet steak pizza was HUGE! The tomato base was absolutely delicious and the steak was perfect; not at all fatty or gristly! They sell lots of local beers and ciders and they actually had one of the best malbecs I've ever tasted. If you like red wine, you seriously need to try it. Flour & Ash? BIG fan!

I recently made my first visit to Flour & Ash for my partner's birthday. We wanted a place that was…read morea bit different, can cater for big groups and was casual for the start of the night before going to a few bars. After considering a couple of options Flour and Ash seemed like it met the criteria. I provisionally booked a table for 10.... After 4 phone calls and gradual increases the table number became 20! The guys there were happy to accommodate but did warn that it was the absolute max, as would take up half the restaurant and due to the set up of 1 stone bake pizza oven the food would have to come out in stages. Table booked. I'd had a look at the website prior to booking and they had some extremely intriguing pizza's on the menu all with a contemporary twist such as the pizza I eventually chose; ox cheek with béchamel sauce and parmesan. All the pizzas are made with sourdough, cooked in the pre-mentioned stone bake oven, which is an absolute beast by the way! If you're after a desert there's a simple choice of locally sourced ice creams that have various different flavours, some a little off kilter like rice pudding and nutmeg! The restaurant is decorated light and minimal with long benches through the middle which catered for our large group and smaller tables up each side. The place has a modern feel to it. You can see right in to the kitchen where the centrepiece of the giant stone bake oven is flaming. A number of us went for the ox cheek pizza and all thought it was amazing, genius! In fact everyone enjoyed their pizzas. Other highlights included the beef fillet, horseradish & rosemary and the chorizo, pickled chillies & rocket. There's also an excellent selection of beers and ciders on offer which I sampled quite a few of! The chocolate milkshake Wiper & True stout was a winner! Service wise the restaurant did struggle a little with the large group. However this is totally understandable as they had said at the outset that it was a push to cater for 20 and due to the kitchen set up the website clearly states pizzas may come out at different times. We had a little trouble paying at the end of the meal as there was a problem with the till, so we had to hang around for a bit. But there's always going to be teething problems with a new restaurant and I guess this can't really be helped any way. All in all definitely recommended, if anything maybe for a slightly smaller group. I'll be back. Thanks for accommodating Flour & Ash!

It was pretty busy when we got there but luckily our group was small, three of us. We were seated on the 2nd floor which was pretty roomy and a bit warm but then again, we are in a pizzeria. I ended up ordering the La Bella Vita pizza which had mozzarella, pepperoni sausage, Italian salame, torn chicken breast, and bacon. It was delicious and the cheese was perfect and not too cheesy. The sauce on the pizza had a great taste that put it over the top, amazing. I paired it well with my Aperol Spritz and took in the views while eating. Our waitress was great and recommended some must see locations while we were in town. She was great. If I ever come back to Bath, I will definitely stop by again because there were some other menu items that caught my eye and plus, the service was great.

Shared one of their specialty pizzas (very tasty, only wish there'd been a bit more generous helpings of the meat topping, as not every slice had it), Caesar salad (big portion, perfect for sharing), and a sampler of their dipping sauces (for the crust -- so good!). They also brought out a pitcher of cold water for the table (an appreciated touch). Would recommend!

The restaurant itself is huge, with long benches and tables that makes it perfect for large groups. It is super casual and always has a real buzzing atmosphere - because it always seems to be busy! I've been a few times now and had a few of the pizzas. They do a pork pizza which was far too salty, it was almost inedible. But the spicy pizza is off the chain! Loads of flavour and the naga chilli blows your head off. I love spicy food so it was right up my street. They also do a pizza with an egg in the middle - which looks really good. If you're not a pizza lover then they do really good pies as well. The food is cooked in an open kitchen which I really like. Behind the bar they have about a dozen boxes of cider. You can order a tasting tray which I think gives you 5 1/3 pints and you can chose which ones you want. I love flat ciders so this was perfect for me. To go with the casualness of The Stables, you have to go to the bar to order food and pay. Which is pretty old school but it works. I imagine with the amount of large groups it probably makes life a lot easier for them to do it this way. I really don't have any negatives about the stables.

The place is large, and cosy - exposed brick walls, long benches with candles on, which encourage strangers to sit together to create atmosphere or are perfect for large groups. The open kitchen spans almost the entire length of the building, showing the chefs working frantically on PIZZA orders. And, WOW, the Pizza - super fresh ingredients, and stonebaked in the oven, producing some of the most delicious Pizza known to man or woman. My personal favourites are The Fresh Hawaiian - Locally smoked ham, tomato, mozzarella, fresh pineapple, avocado and chilli The Portishead Piggy - Smoked Sandridge Farm bacon, local field mushrooms, tomato and mozzarella. Topped with a free-range egg. Most are priced around £10. And these 2 are particularly awesome. Egg on a pizza -amazing!!! I believe they do other dishes like sales and pies too, but I'm always way to side tracked by the Pizza.
