Some messages were longer which meant that they wouldn't fit on the ribbons. Instead of imposing a character limit - Nona proposed options like laminated paper to have keep the whole message. Keeping the whole message mattered given the meaning was really essential and I appreciated how Nona proactively recognized this and proposed the alternative. Getting married in the middle of a pandemic meant for some last minute planning since we didn't know if we'd even be allowed to have a wedding until a few weeks prior. I was a bit embarrassed when I first reached out to Nona because I only needed a single bouquet, and it was on short notice. Nona was extremely nice and let me know it'd be no problem. She took the time to listen to what my wedding aesthetic was and the colors - I was getting married in a cactus/succulent garden, and she immediately had an idea of what to do. We got married around 2020 Thanksgiving, so this review has been long pending. Nona helped us out with the floral arrangements for our pandemic wedding. If planning an Indian wedding in the bay area amidst a pandemic was not stressful enough, rainy weather was an extra variable to take care of. Nona made a plan which was weatherproof. Nona was extremely professional. She visited the menu multiple times, took accurate measurements and made sketches to which made the plans crystal clear. We hired Nona for our wedding a few years ago. First off, I had absolutely zero ideas going on to this and had done no research on what is needed for a wedding, so I was kind of a nightmare client already. When we met for our appointment she seemed surprised I had no strong opinions and showed me a few options. Once I had decided on a few ideas she showed, sure basically walked me through exactly what I needed, asked to see photos of the venue and recommended what would look best there. I was extremely grateful her vast experience showed here and she was able to get us sorted with everything for the entire wedding party, tables, and ceremony, in less than half an hour! I had made an offhand comment during our appointment that my favorite flower had been snap dragons as a kid. She kind of chuckled and mentioned the wedding wouldn't really be in snapdragon season unfortunately, and I never thought of it again. Fast forward to the ceremony, and I was so do pleasantly surprised to see beautiful looking snapdragons included in some of our garlands for the ceremony! She created two large floral arrangements for our aisle, a tabletop arrangement for our entryway, a bouquet, and a boutonniere for our wedding. Nona's work is absolutely incredible! She created the most stunning floral arrangements for our wedding. Her attention to detail and eye for beauty came through in every arrangement she designed for us. I was completely in love with my bridal bouquet and my bridesmaid's bouquets. She took the soft pink roses and hydrangea that I told her I loved in our initial consultation, and she carried them all throughout the ceremony and the reception in uniquely different ways. The trumpet vase arrangements at the church where perfectly repurposed at the reception by being placed on each side of our head table to frame it beautifully. The centerpieces on the tables were both high and low arrangements, giving the room perfect height and dimension. One of my friends recommended Nona from Floral Design Studio after she had a great experience with her own wedding. I have to chime in with my enthusiastic agreement that Nona is fantastic to work with and her flowers are phenomenal. On top of that, she has so many beautiful decor items for rent that it eliminated us needing to go through other rental shops for additional things. We met a couple times in person, first to design the overall look, choose a color scheme, and figure out the amount of floral pieces needed. Just prior to the wedding, we finalized the order and discussed the exact kinds of flowers that would be available. She has many flowers at her studio to give clients a better idea of the color tone and type of flowers that she'll use. As someone not very familiar with gardening or plants, this was super helpful. Also as mentioned in many other reviews, Nona is great at thinking of ways to repurpose ceremony flowers to decorate tables and other locations during cocktail hour and reception. And she and her team helps move them as well. The final quote seemed very reasonable. In particular I have to mention that it was difficult for us to find an arch that I liked, but Nona came through and saved the day with the perfect arch and then decorated it beautifully with drapes and florals. She even helped attach the strings of tissue paper flowers my mom made to the arch as well. Along with her team, she will also do breakdowns right after the ceremony (cleaning up petals, etc) and will return later after the reception for the rest of any rental items. Our venue took care of the rest, but the guests loved the flowers and they all disappeared by the end of the night anyway ;) Would highly recommend Nona for any of your floral needs. Each bride has a different focus for her wedding. For me, it's flowers. I've always been a flower lover and enjoyed decorating my home with real and silk flowers. That being said, I was a picky bride when it came to floral arrangements. Nina not only successfully created the romantic looks that I wanted, but she also way exceeded my expectation. All my guests, event the service staff, were awed by how beautiful the floral arrangement was. Looking back, my husband and I both agreed that going with Nina was an excellent decision was worth every penny. My wedding colors were ivory and blush; theme flowers were peonies and roses. I was especially picky on my bridal bouquet, which was made of peonies and decorated with roses. I simply emailed Nina some pictures I found online; she immediately understood what I wanted. On my wedding day when she delivered my bridal bouquet in my room, I was so happy to see that my bouquet was more beautiful than any of those pictures I emailed to her. She even managed to create the subtle color differences I asked for. The flowers were very fresh too. My wedding was in Berkeley and I lived in LA. I brought my bouquet two days after my wedding all the way back to LA and arranged the flowers into two vases. They lasted over another week. My wedding was a small, intimate family get-together. I used a 22-foot long banquet table and asked Nina for a lush, modern look centerpiece with mostly roses and lots of candles. Nina worked around my budget and created a truly stunning centerpiece that amazed all my guests and friends. People stopped at our banquet room and discussed how gorgeous the table setting was. Nina even decorated my wedding cake and several other small tables in the room as a gift for me! Nina is a real expert of flowers; she is very knowledgeable about different types of flowers and their seasons, colors, and shapes. She also patiently explained these differences to me when I had questions. She found "base flowers" for me with which I could achieve the lush looks I wanted but stay within my budget. The da vinci of flowers I tell you. Nona was the florist for our wedding on 9/5/09 at St. John the Baptist in Milpitas and Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery. Nona oozes creativity, we spent a good two hours discussing flowers, and then we had a second meeting four months later and spent another hour or so discussing flowers. Each time I walked out of a meeting with her, I had a good idea of the flowers as I was going home. She was very prompt in sending a quote to me as well. We spent the most vendor money on flowers, and it was in good hands with Nona. She was very flexible when I emailed her saying I needed four less centerpieces, he admin Anna was also very good with contacting Eileen with different questions. Once it got closer to the wedding, Nona contacted us to make sure that the flowers matched the fabric and made sure that everything looked like we envisioned, making changes as needed. Our centerpieces were amazing, three different types to give different heights, all with beautiful flowers. Nona uses MAGNETS for the flowers for the sponsor women and the mothers, MAGNETS people! That kept the women from having to put pins into their pretty dresses. All of the other flowers were absolutely beautiful! One person loved the pew flowers so much that she was about to run off with them before one of Nona's assistants stopped them. Probably the only mistake that I made was going to Nona FIRST when looking at florists, all florists we met afterwards paled in comparison. Before my wedding, I had taken the (somewhat arrogant) stance that I didn't *really* need flowers at the wedding because no one would remember them after the event was over. Nona and Floral Design Studio proved me very, very wrong. Nona designed the flowers for our welcome dinner, wedding ceremony and reception. I consider myself a fairly artistic person, but in our planning sessions, Nona consistently surprised me with her creative, fun ideas for how to bring color and life to spaces she'd never even seen, based just off of our descriptions. (Our events all took place a fair distance away from Fremont.) She nailed it every time. Some examples. We planned our welcome dinner at a Mexican restaurant that had a great view but was pretty bare-bones in terms of decor. We described to her that there would be long tables, white cloths, and family-style dinner service. She immediately came back with an idea to use a variety of small, brightly colored bottles of different shapes and sizes with a few mixed flowers in each - from bright yellow daisies to red tulips and cute little lavender buds. For our wedding, I had chosen a pretty difficult color combination to work with - apple green and rich, bright orange. Bridesmaids wore the apple green, and guys (both on the bride's and groom's side) wore navy blue. It would have been very, very easy to take a wrong turn. But Nona helped us plan out the entire wedding party's attire, suggesting that we match the bridesmen's ties to the bridesmaids' green dresses with orange bouquets and boutonnières, have groomsmen in orange ties with green boutonnières, and put the groom in gray to make him stand out. The result was perfect. Finally, for our reception we had a sweetheart table that was set in front of a plain green hedge. Nona suggested that we add a really fun touch - individual orange roses of different sizes to provide a beautiful backdrop for photos taken at our table. It was a pleasure to see Nona's smiling face on the day of our wedding, and she brought such a fun but relaxing vibe to our day. I could tell that she truly wanted everything to go perfectly because it matters to her that you are not just happy but thrilled with the outcome. She was hyper-organized, with every single item clearly marked for an idiot-proof day. She personally saw that my bouquet was perfect and as I had described. She found the most amazing flowers for my hair to fit the style of my dress and ceremony, even though I had no idea what I wanted and therefore gave her NO help figuring this out. In short, it was flawless. To wrap up, I will say that I officially stand corrected. Multiple people - many of whom I thought wouldn't even notice much less remember - have approached us to say that they loved the flowers at our events. I will always remember them, too - how happy it made me to see these beautiful bursts of color all weekend, and how wonderful it felt to have Nona there to support us that day. read more

Oh my goodness, I had forgotten the name of the studio and couldn't leave a review until now! My biggest regret of my wedding was NOT HAVING FDS DO ALL MY FLORALS FOR EVERY EVENT! Short story: They are PHENOMENAL. Artistic LUSH designs, no nickel and diming, super conscious of your budget, and they go ABOVE what most other florists offer for the same price. Long story: Nina (Arlene) did a mother's day bouquet for me last year because she still worked at a floral shop a few blocks from my parent's house. Based on her outstanding customer service - taking the time to patiently and kindly explain everything to me, sticking to my budget and delivering an incredible bouquet that exceeded my expectations. She stuck in my mind. My wedding was in August 2014. My expensive but lazy florist (who was already booked for my reception unfortunately) had already shown me that hiring her was a mistake. For the same price, her bouquets were uninspired, tiny in size and florals, and boring. I had a fusion wedding with 3 different events. At the midnight hour, before committing to her yet again, I remembered how lovely Nina was. I basically called Nina 3 days before my wedding and begged her to help me and SHE DID. She and Nona from FDS scrambled together to discuss my vision and budget, come up with designs, deliver those designs and we devised so many creative, inventive solutions to keep me within budget - creativity that my other florist refused to even consider. This included allowing me to provide my own $1 vases from dollar store (same vases used anyway by most floral designers but charged at $5-10 each. She didn't even ask me to wash and scrub them! She came up with a design for a dozen small bouquets at $20 each plus a SHOWSTOPPING center piece for my Sangeet that people tried to steal LOL. The price was staggeringly reasonable. I almost cried when I saw it because I was so upset I was overpaying my other florist by so much, when I could have had this amazing duo do everything and do a phenomenal job of it. Then, for my wedding ceremony, they made two ENORMOUS entrance pieces, complete with these massive tall urn vases. Again, they utilized creativity, creating basically a heavy front half bouquet that was huge and full in the front, and went high up, but not heavy in the back (since it was backed by a wall anyway). They also have a FULL stop shop for decor - at the best prices. I not only used them for florals, but rented lamps, candles, votives and other vases and a beautiful entry way drape from them - at prices that my other florist insisted were incorrect. She was jelly though. They came up with ways to help me save and stick to my budget. Nina even came by my house personally to pick up additional vases and my deposit checks because I didn't have time. They have a warehouse and own most of their items, which is how they can offer such competitive prices for the most lush, romantic, artistic floral designs out there. Like I said, I would have gone back in time if I could, to hire them for my reception too, but I was already stuck. Nina & Nona, I will NEVER forget that you came through beautifully for me, at a time of great stress and tension. You were one of the best vendors I worked with. We started quite early looking for our wedding vendors. As an (ahem) 8-8-8 wedding, we were up and about a full year before the wedding day. So as you can imagine, we scoured thru a plenty and allowed ourselves extra time to decide on what vendors to go thru. Nona was the complete exception. She was the second florist that we went to and actually got her for our wedding. The first one completely underwhelmed me, showing more of catalog style flowers where he copies his designs,and has no concrete input of how our colors is going to be incorporated on the wedding. So I went to Nona not really knowing what to expect. Since we were having a color combination as our theme (light blue and chocolate brown), I have NO clue on how that would translate over to flowers. I noticed that Nona was observing me and my fiance (now husband) while we were going thru her portfolio. I was drawn to this one particular bouquet that she did, not remembering what it is exactly now but I know it's an orchid arrangement. She decided that we should do cymbidium orchids, mini callas and chocolate cosmos as my flower... hmmm chocolate cosmos sounds delish I was thinking but never thought it was an actual flower! She just wowed me with her knowledge and expertise of many many flowers that I simply don't know about. Now... as any couple who went thru the wedding planning process know, any mention of the word wedding usually gets a 50% mark up from any vendor. While Nona was tallying up our quote, I get the sinking feeling that it wouldn't be anywhere near our budget. Surprise, surprise! Again, Nona delivered in that department. She worked with our budget and decided that it's going to be cheaper for us to get our own vase, and get some rose petals ourselves for extra decoration. Now, what florist would allow the bride and groom to get flowers other than their own?! This shows how she is truly willing to work with the bride and groom to make things happen. She took the time to ask and observe how the bride and groom is and completely nailed what style we wanted on our wedding. Since I live really close, I went back and forth to her office a couple of times before the event to drop off whatever (dress swatch, vase, check). And everytime I go she always allows me to venture towards the back where they design the flowers. It never ceazes to amaze me how creative she is, and the variety of flowers and arrangements that she was making for her clients speaks of her expertise. On the day of the wedding, she dropped off the flowers to the hotel and actually asked if she can see me! Unfortunately, I was still getting ready so I didn't actually got to see her. Everyone was raving about their flowers, my bouquet came out so pretty in my pictures. I almost cried that I didn't save them on time since I was still busy after our wedding! April 11th 2015 was one of the most unforgettable day in our lives at the Bridges Golf Club in San Ramon with a perfect weather. Rewind back to the day 1 of the wedding planning: If you are married and hosted a wedding banquet, you could imagine how overwhelming it could be in terms of finding venue, florists, food tasting, decor...etc. If you are unfortunate to find some vendors/planners that are unreliable, you are going to get nothing but more stress and headache. Nona, don't worry about her. She will just take care of business as other yelpers reviewed. The day of the wedding: WOW. It was just stunningly gorgeous. We had a huge 15 feet tall arch and I'm not even exaggerated. It almost shocked all guests how beautiful it was as long as you pay attention how detailed she put her artwork together. Her works completely changed the impression of the venue as the venue has a great scenery already. I can't use words to describe how much we appreciate Nona to be our floral designer of our wedding and the price that she quoted us is very reasonable comparing to some other preferred vendors. Extremely professional and intelligent, punctual, and respectful. Nona really has an eye for beauty, and her work exceeded our expectations. We were really fortunate to have her on broad. When I planned another event in the Bay Area, I will definitely hire her again. Nona (I believe she is the owner) did a wonderful job at my friend's wedding, the bride's designs includes some novel/strange ideas, but Nona made a point to understand exactly what the bride wanted. Moreover, when she was done, her work looked even better than what we envisioned. Two days before the wedding, the weather forecast changed: it was going to rain on my friend's planned outdoor wedding; thus we went to look at the location of our rain contingency plan. When Nona found out that we were going, she couldn't come, but she asked us to take her camera with us and take photographs for her so she can have an idea what the place look like. She then did her homework and everything turn out more wonderful than anyone expected! She had but a couple of day's notice! After the wedding, we had another matter in which we needed her help. Nona went out of her way to help us, was extremely kind, and was very prompt in responding. Now people, this is AFTER we had already paid her and she really didn't have to help. Nona Saved my Party! Our decorator was a mess and screwed up everything possible. Nona's flowers were so beautiful and grand that they saved the day. Everyone was amazed at the large centerpieces her team created. All the guests were fighting to take them home at the end of the evening. Out of all of my vendors, Floral Design Studio was the best decision I made in the five month planning for my parents 50th anniversary. Her arrangements were beyond what I had imagined or even expected. Hydrangeas, Roses, Dahlia and even her filler flowers were all high end. Every rose was perfection.
