I found a post which I did not originate with a 5 star rating. Don't know how someone logged on and made good review when I would recommend this company for anything. I would like to know how someone and why someone would try to muddy the review I posted. Previous POST: I was told that I would get part of my deposit applied to any cost of work done but unfortunately when the deposit was made nothing was deducted. I canceled the job and felt I couldn't rely on what they might tell me in any future dealings. After looking into the company's information while waiting to get my check and parts back I found that the California contractors license # 968144 was not in the name of the company "Floor Heaters LA" but under a company "A1 INDUSTRIAL HEATING & COOLING - 11664 NATIONAL BOULEVARD 372- LOS ANGELES, CA 90064" which is a Post office Box at a Whole Foods location. I found that the license was suspended when I checked but after I posted that information Nick knocked on my front door one evening to complain about my review and asked me to change my comments, he said that the license was now not suspended. I checked and it was reinstated after I made it known. Nick told me that operating a business under a different name than was on their contractors license was ok and he was doing nothing illegal. I am not a lawyer so I called the State Contractors License board and they told me that only the company licensed can use the contractors license legally. I also found the name of a bonding company through the listing on the contractors board website and called them - WESTERN SURETY COMPANY - 151 N FRANKLIN STREET - CHICAGO IL 60606 - (800) 331-6053 - They said that the company Floor Heaters LA was not covered under the bond for A1 INDUSTRIAL HEATING & COOLING - 11664 NATIONAL BOULEVARD 372-LOS ANGELES, CA 90064 - Totally a bad experience and they never returned all my parts. There is no address on their website and even doing a google search brings up no address. There is an image of a building with the word "HEATERS" on it but a foreign looking car partially shown in the image & looks like it is parked on the wrong side of the street. read more

This small business is horrible and both him and Lucy are habitual liars and really can't be trusted. They will pretend to do so much work but really don't and charge you $285hr for labor and over charge on parts they supposedly rebuild your parts but in reality it's just spray paint and a con. I would never recommend these people. Look at spending more then 4k plus $245 just for them to come and look and tell you it needs to be rebuilt and quote you a $4,000 to $5,000 dollars job. Please do not use them please. please let me be clear the price is crazy for the fake work they do but that is not why I didn't keep using them. Lucky is the reason why I didn't want to use them she was very rude and disrespectful even after they tried to charge me half the price which was way less than what they quoted me to just finish the job I didn't because it wasn't about the price. I did not trust that they were going to do a good job, so I said no to their service. When they finally did bring me my part which look the same as when they took it was never cleaned it as they said they did they still kept the money. Look at the receipts and the prices and the quotes and all the money just does not make sense like if they just made it up as they were going along to keep the lie. Look the guy used my bathroom without asking lucky was rude @ 4,800 something I should not have to wait until you are in my area to do the job u should have a schedule so that you get the job done. I bought a beautiful 1947 house with an existing floor furnace that had been red tagged by the gas company. Several HVAC contractors came out and immediately tried to sell me on a complete Central Air system giving me prices as high as 22k. I went back and forth for a month on what to do and then was recommended to talk with Floor Heaters LA. Nick was able to come out the following week and take a look. They rebuilt the entire unit and returned a week later with it. The house has been cozy warm since, and it was really the best solution for this 1000sf house. It should be good to go for another 70 years. If you have an old house with a similar unit and are hesitant to install central air, I would recommend getting in touch with Floor Heaters LA. After 3 heat-less years, we are fortunate in finding Nick Gervay, owner of Floor Heaters LA, who used his vast knowledge of heater-physics to repair our wall heater. He discovered several problem areas, in the (relatively new) thermostat and in the heater's sensor. None of the expensive previous repair technicians even tested these items. The cost was a fraction of earlier estimates, no expensive unnecessary parts, we only needed a new thermostat and work on the sensor. We are very grateful to Mr. Gervay, he made a big improvement in our quality of life. (And he bears a surprising resemblance to Robert De Niro.) read more

Did a great job rebuilding my 80 year old floor furnace. I was so pleased with their service, I recommended them to my neighbor, who hasn't been able to find anyone to fix hers for 3 years. They are now working on her heater, & I have no doubt we'll both be nice & warm this winter. I agree with the positive reviews of Floor Heaters LA, especially the review by Brian H. I have been living and sleeping in hooded sweatshirts and sweaters. Enough! Nick and his crew were courteous, on time, and my gas floor heater is FINALLY working. I explained to Nick on the phone that my heater didn't go on except very occasionally but that it wouldn't go on again for a couple of days. Nick explained what was wrong and what needed to be done. Lucy explained the cost. Past Repair Experiences: I had my gas floor heater repaired in 2011. It lasted about ten uses before it wouldn't turn on until the fourth to twentieth attempt. The heater wouldn't go on again when it went below the temperature setting. One employee returned. The heater turned on three times when he was here. Unfortunately, the heater SEEMED to work correctly when he was here. This 2011 company's employees went home to Russia for several months. I believe they thought that they fixed it but that they weren't skilled or didn't want to take the time to repair the heater correctly. The money I paid for the "repair" was wasted. I called two more companies who lied and said that they repaired floor heaters but then suggested alternative heating systems. 2013: I paid $1,300 to have the parts replaced. The heater worked for six weeks. Then, the heater had the SAME problems: The heater took multiple tries to turn it on, and it shut off before the targeted temperature. A representative came out, crawled under house and said that they replaced and repaired parts. The heater worked for a month. These workers returned. Naturally, my heater turned on. One employee stated that there was no way they could figure out what was wrong until the heater didn't go on AT ALL. They told me to call them when the heater was finally 100 percent broken. The heater turned on sporadically. Then, it was summer. This "cycle" went on for years. I was tired of looking for a company who could repair my floor heater. I lived with this situation UNTIL January 2022. My gut instinct was to believe Floor Heater LA's positive reviews. When I called Nick, Nick's explanation, patience with my questions, understanding of my frustrating situation, and knowledge impressed me. I feel lucky that I called Floor Heaters LA. Floor heater was finally dying after 50 years or so, and Nick and his team came out twice, first to evaluate and then remove the unit, then back again to install the renovated/new piece. Do not use this business unless you want to be lied to and cheated. I had Nick and his crew rebuild my floor furnace and they did a decent job. But, the price was $1000 more than other places. I had to have them back to fix a bad part and he charged me $275.00 service call fee plus the part. When my heater went out AGAIN his partner in crime, Lucy, called and said it "might be the valve and would cost 1,800 to fix" I let them come in hopes they would be honest since I had spent so much money with them, but no. Nick did his little routine with Jose going under the house and banging around then said "It's the valve and it's gonna be 1,800! When I said absolutely not he was shocked and said "I thought you talked to Lucy" I called another company, Total Home HVAC and they fixed my heater for a third of the price and it was NOT the valve. Nick and Lucy play this little game where she decides what's wrong before the crew of con men come and amazingly her prediction is right! They lie and over charge, simple as that. I am angry that I payed so much to begin with but I have learned my lesson. They are not the only game in town. Don't fall for their well rehearsed routine that I'm sure they have played on many customers who don't know any better like me. The other company also has a 10 year warranty! Oh man are these guys great! Can't say enough good things about them. Our house was built in 1930 and came with two floor furnaces, one in the living room and one that spans the wall between the two rooms in the back (originally our kids' bedrooms, now our home offices). We've lived in the house since 1994 and have never used the back heater. It was missing some essential parts when we moved in and the gas company told us not to even try turning it on. So we didn't, for all these years. The front furnace was getting weaker and weaker. We knew part of the problem was all the cat fur in it. It had an asbestos wrapper, so I was leery of trying to vacuum it out. I went looking on Yelp for someone who might be able to fix it and found Floor Heaters LA. Called for an appointment and they came right out the same day, looked everything over (even got under the house) and assured us everything could be fixed. As it turned out, some idiot amateurs in the past had tried to "fix" the one working furnace with any old parts. It was a wonder the thing still worked and hadn't set the house on fire. They vacuumed about a saber tooth cat's worth of fur out of there and took both heaters back to the shop to work on them. One week later, back they came, and today we have two working furnaces and the asbestos is gone. The ancient thermostat in the back was replaced with a brand new Honeywell. Whooooo! Nick and his well trained team of scam artists (I'm looking at you, Lucy) lied to our faces about what was wrong with one of our heaters. It turned out to be a bad $45 thermopile, which we replaced inside of 15 minutes. Instead, Nick claimed that the "pilot line was cracked," and that was why the heater didn't ignite. He also then claimed that "the control valve, pilot generator, sensor system, pilot light and pilot assembly, and the thermostat" were all broken and needed to be replaced. His "manager," Lucy gave us an outrageous quote of $1850 for this service on top of $205 for a 4-minute "diagnosis" for the two heaters. After we fixed the thermopile ourselves, we called Nick back to confront him about lying to us. He justified his deception by saying, "I have to make a living." He insisted that those perfectly functional additional parts might "go bad someday" and that he might as well replace them anyway. When we asked why he would replace any parts at all when a comparable new heater by the same manufacturer cost around $900 and around $450 for labor, he had no satisfactory answer. If you enjoy being lied to, ripped off, and talked to like a child by a self-admitted crook, then Nick and Lucy are the right team for you. Now here's an update in response to Nick's mendacious and obfuscatory response below: Nick, neither you or your "customer service" person Lucy ever framed your diagnosis as a "safety issue." You claimed the "pilot line was cracked" and that's why the heater didn't work. It wasn't cracked. You lied. The heater didn't work because the thermopile was broken. If it really was a "safety issue," then why not just replace this twenty year old heater entirely for a fraction of your comical "repair price?" Answer: you didn't suggest replacing it because your regular scam is to dupe people who don't know any better into paying for needless repairs. Your "safety" angle is a clever bit of plausible deniability in case you get caught padding your bid like you did here. No repair is ever going to be safer than a new heater. For this specific Williams heater, a new installation would have run 400 to 500 dollars cheaper than your "repair" of randomly selected items. You can make all of the excuses in the world; but a cursory review of your 1 star reviews will betray a troubling and familiar pattern. You probably do good repair work. But lying on a bid is still a "no-no" in the eyes of the CSLB. You may want to stick to the repairs and skip the lying in the future or it will eventually cost you your license. Update on February 24, 2021: For some reason, Nick has updated his response to my review. And I'm sorry to say, Nick, you've learned nothing in the intervening time. Your response is full of falsehoods. 1) the house was a private residence, not an apartment rental. 2) the house was built in 1992 with all brand new heaters installed at the time. Therefore it's impossible that the heater was "60 years old." Nice try though! This review is clearly affecting your business; and you're trying, long after the fact, to impugn it and blunt its impact. Instead, you should admit that you lied about a heater that IS STILL WORKING after I replaced the thermopile myself! There never were any "safety issues." If there were, no competent repair person would recommend sinking more than the cost of a new heater into "repairing" it. They would simply replace it. But the phony "repair" is much more lucrative for you. So instead of the money going to some big manufacturer of new heaters, it goes into your dishonest pockets instead. Look, you've been lying to people for so long, it's clear that the trail of cheated customers is all starting to blend together for you in your mind. You probably have difficulty recalling the fact that this was my own home, not my "tenant," and that the heater was no where near "60 years old." But you were the only crooked repairman who came to my house and gave me an inflated bid for unnecessary repairs and then lied about it in 2019, so the events of that day are still emblazoned in crystal clear, sharp relief in my memory. Instead of owning up to being caught red-handed trying to cheat and lie, you come back years later, when you clearly can't remember any of the details to try and refute my very precise and detailed review of my experience with your company. These guys came out for less than half an hour and charged $245 for an estimate. I agreed to this crazy price because of some of the Yelp reviews, but I seriously ended up regretting it. We had to keep talking back and forth between the woman in the office and the guy in the field to get any information, and the woman in the office put a great deal of pressure on us to pay before or the minute the guy came out, with an online transfer. I've never experienced anything of the sort. She insisted on that instant payment in order to agree to send us the estimate (okay, fine, but nobody else did anything like this). But the best was yet to come - they tell us they have "good news", that it can be rebuilt, and they quoted us just a few dollars below $4000. We called a couple of other companies and one of them did it for less than half that price, as well as charging well under half for the original inspection/estimate which was fully refunded by the repair. These guys are not the only game in town that fix floor heaters - they have done a great job marketing themselves as such on Yelp, and I have no doubt their repair work is fine based on most of these reviews, but working with them was not pleasant, we felt like we were being given a pitch, and based on the price we were able to fully rebuild the heater for with another company being less than half, I now know why. When our ancient floor heater was on the fritz our landlord found this company and I'm so glad he did! They know their stuff. They diagnosed the problem - took out the old, worn parts and returned them a couple of days later completely refurbished, rebuilt and ready to go. They even installed a new, modern thermostat which finally brought our old heater into this century! The heater works more efficiently now than it ever has. I was really looking forward to trying to do business with this place. I asked them for a quote to repair a wall gas heater. They quoted me $2400!!!! That's ridiculous! I told the lady that the new unit cost $600. Her justification for the price was that I would have to spend money to install the new heater. I understand if this is an old craft to work on these types of heaters and not many people do it. But that is just completely unreasonable. I also asked if they would be willing to take a look at the system to give a quote and they told me that if they come out they're going to charge $125 or $175 to look at it and give a repair estimate. How are you going go charge somebody money to go look at potential work? So I said fk that. I wouldn't do business with someone that has that kind of business mentality. My tenant's unit has the original floor furnace that came with the house when it was built in 1924. During the recent cold spell, I lit the pilot and only half of the firebox would get hot. I called Floor Heaters LA to get an estimate to fix it. Spoke with Lucy and she told me how much the service call would cost, which was reasonable, then told me how much it would cost to rebuild the furnace...$10,000. I laughed and told her I'd get back to her. Got it rebuilt by another experienced floor furnace repairman for $1650. From the first call to Lucy to Nick and his crew on site service, Floor Heaters LA provided me not only with heat for the first time in years but peace of mind. The first visit - to assess the issue - was explained in exhaustive, thorough detail by Lucy, including the price and what payment was expected. Nick and his 2 techs were very prompt. They followed all my requests regarding parking and Covid safety precautions. The heater fortunately (90+ years old) had all its original components. Nick let me "watch over his shoulder" every step of the way, was very careful with the hardwood floors, and the antique grates. When the furnace was reinstalled with a new thermostat, he explained exactly what had been done and how to use the new thermostat. We are fortunate to be the proud owners of a wonderful French Normandy fourplex in South Carthay in Los Angeles built in the mid 1930's. One of the delights of this building is the gravity heating system. It's heaven, but because they aren't that efficient they have fallen out of favor over the years and have been replaced with forced air. Consequently, it has become very difficult to find technicians who know how to fix and service these units when necessary. When a young whipper-snapper Gas Co. technician recently red tagged our heaters because he had never seen one before and figured they must be too old to work at all, we panicked! I love those heaters, love the heat that just floats up into the room and am not going to lose them without a fight! Thank heavens we finally found Floor-Heaters LA!!! Nick, the owner is a pro, got right to work and adjusted everything and told us our heaters were working great. Had a great experience with this company. Our floor heater is from 1925 and hasn't worked properly in years. After it finally gave out , I called a company that told me it couldn' t be fixed and I would have to have my wall cut and vents put in roof for a wall heater. Lucy explained exactly what would be done on the inspection and what repair work would cost. Nick and his crew came out, after inspecting (under the house) recommended safety and efficiency upgrades.
