I came here with my friend who had a gift card to partake in the float experience. This review is based on my feelings and my feelings alone. Customer service was great and super friendly and considerate. He was sweet, hospitable, and super accommodating. There are no qualms about customer service and atmosphere of my visit. If anything, he is what carrying this 2 star instead of 1 star experience. The float tank itself seemed a bit disgusting. Not by any means because of the type of water it was, but inside the tank on the walls and crevices were disgusting. I have posted photos to verify this. If I am knowingly aware floating in treated water that other naked bodies are in rotation in and plus the built up grime on the interior walls, that didn't really give me a firm chance to be at ease during this experience. I feel that it is important to maintain a level of hygiene when experiencing this and though I felt hygiene was done right with the first part of the visit, being in the tank itself left me with a sickening feeling of disgust. Like I said, I am not unfamiliar to using spa treatments and things similar to this experience. It is simply a matter of cleanliness. What I can say about this experience once you get over the disgust is that I did feel relaxed and enjoyed the chance to remove my mind from all exteriors and simply relax. It was a great environment for the right purpose, but I did feel unsettled due to the constant feeling of being in a place that hadn't been cleaned properly from my point of view. I am purely going on first impression. As someone who has never done this before, no one wants to get into a tank and see reminiscence of God knows what on the walls and around the filters or jets. Would I give this another try? Yes, but only after I felt that the place had been properly sanitized in the tanks. I am happy to reconsider my experience and rating of Float Nashville if I better understood why it looked like this and felt like I was floating around in something unsanitary - chemicals or not. read more

My BF bought me a gift certificate for Float Nashville a few years ago, and we made it just under the expiration date to sample the services this past weekend. I was able to easily book both of our sessions online, and there's only one option online for a 90 minute float. They are open late (until 11pm) and we came in at 5pm on a Saturday. We filled out an iPad with our information and were the only customers there which made for a nice calming experience. The employee was very nice and showed us the tanks. We both opted for the closed tanks for the full experience and I'm glad I did, though they do offer an open tank if you prefer. You start off the float with a lukewarm shower and then enter the tank. Outside the tank they have motion censored lights and once in the tub I had the option to turn on a light but didn't to get the full experience. When you get in it is definitely weird at first and difficult to adjust. I was very tense and the instructions at the beginning were helpful to just focus on your breath and try to loosen any tension in your muscles. The sign on the wall also recommended that you float with your arms over your head. It is definitely weird at first and takes some adjustment. The employee we spoke with said that the first 30 minutes are where your mind races and then you relax into it fully. I didn't find that to be the case for me. I felt it came in waves. I'd have good mediation periods and then go into mind racing anxious "when is this over, how long has it been" thoughts. It felt like the full 90 minutes, (if not longer) and I didn't go to sleep. I had to take a few breaks where I sat up in the tank to reconvene and get my thoughts together. However, overall I would say it was a good experience, just not as easy as I think it was sold to be. It's cool to be floating in a tank but also as weird as it sounds too. They play soft music at the end of the session and I was both excited it was over and then a bit sad because it was during one of my meditative periods. Make sure you wash your hair afterwards; I made this mistake because I was feeling lazy and my hair was covered in flaky salt afterwards. Wash your hair!! I'm docking a star because I feel that it's not quite as easy as advertised, especially if you aren't accustomed to long meditations and also because my BF's tank had clumps of hair that was gross and extremely distracting for him. However, we both felt very relaxed and enjoyed our floats, but it wasn't quite the mind opening experience I felt was sold to be. read more

If you've never floated two things 1) you must and 2) it's weird. It's very hard to explain, mostly because we are in such an activity-driven, noise-saturated world, and you think, how on Earth can I unplug for 90 minutes? I didn't know either except sooner than I could say"boo" both times, I was asleep... In the water! Someone said "I feel like a space noodle" and that's appropriate! Maybe we just aren't used to allowing ourselves to have that much time to just exist, but I highly encourage you to try it. You'll have the best night's sleep of your life besides falling asleep in the water, the feeling of being utterly weightless and letting your mind do what it does is incomparable. I cannot really explain it except to say that the results . I've done both the open room in the Pod and I'm not sure which I like better but I would do the Pod first you will not feel claustrophobic. read more

I was gifted a float session so I can't say that the experience was totally on my radar. I arrived early because I really didn't know what to expect. I was warmly greeted by the young lady at the desk and immediately instructed to have a seat and complete a few forms. After about five minutes I was escorted to the float room and given a brief intro of the space. I of course had a few questions that I hoped would make me more comfortable with experience. My questions were promptly answered and I was assured that It would be a relaxing experience. The Dead Sea salt makes the water very dense so your body can't sink. This really took some time to get use to for me so I held on to a float board until I finally felt comfortable enough to just float. You have the option to float with the lights on or off and the room is quite the entire time. It's very easy to fall asleep so don't be surprise if you doze off for a good bit of the sessions. After you're done the lights are turned on and you shower off all the salt. It's a pretty relaxing experience and if you love water it's certainly worth a try. read more

I had my first visit with Float Nashville and it was amazing. I'm slightly claustrophobic and was skeptical if I could last my entire session but I did it without any issues. Mandi (one of their staff members) was fantastic and she walked me through each step which helped ease the anxiety of my first float. The Float Nashville facility is very clean and well kept. They go out of their way to make sure you have everything you could need such as ear plugs, shower, soap, shampoo, float devices, etc. That way, all you have to do is show up and relax. For a first-timer, the experience was out of this world. It takes a few minutes (15-20 minutes) to get adjusted because when sound and light are absent, your mind and body need time to adjust. After I got settled, it was like I was in a peaceful void. They have over 1,000 lbs. of Epson salt which keeps your body floating without any effort. It makes your skin smooth and truly relaxes all the muscles. After the session was over, the peace and tranquility that followed was something I hadn't experienced in a long time. I realized how amazing it was once the normal sounds of regular life started creeping back in. Just getting that 90-minute break recharged my batteries both physically and mentally. I did my first ever float tonight, at Float Nashville. If you are not familiar with this, I highly suggest watching the documentary "Float Nation". You essentially, in a nutshell, go to a center to float in a "pod" or tank with 1,000 pounds of epsom salts in 10 inches of water that is heated to skin temperature, and you float effortlessly for 90 minutes, in a soundproof tank in total dark. (You can choose to have some light by keeping the tank door open, but I highly suggest dark. In a world of sensory overload and distractions, it is a way to unplug and truly relax, free your mind.) The epsom salts are very healing and you are free from the force of gravity on your body. The owners were super friendly and welcoming and thorough in preparation and explaining everything. The place feels a bit small/cramped but they were limited in locations for this and hope to expand. The place felt calm, comfy and clean. There is a strong smell in the tank rooms from the salt, but you get used to it quickly and then I did not even notice it. I have had an autoimmune disease (Rheumatoid Arthritis) since I was 2 years old - so for 36 years. I walked into the session with nearly every joint throbbing and aching during a flare, and a shoulder muscle injury screaming at me. Everything hurt so bad. A massage yesterday helped with range of motion and gave as much relief as it could, but today the pain and stiffness was horrible again. I got in the tank and played around with the fun feeling of floating seemingly in space. So cool! I had no qualms about closing the door and being in the dark... that doesn't weird me out at all... but you have the option to have light and keep door open if you prefer. About ten or fifteen minutes into the float, it occurred to me that I was not hurting... not anywhere. Not at all. Literally not a single place on my body hurt. In fact, I could not really even feel where my body ended and the water began, since they were the same temperature. The longer I floated, the less I "felt" my body. It was an incredibly peaceful and comfortable sensation. I played around doing yoga stretches in the water since I was no longer restricted by the pain and stiffness... my body felt so comfortable, flexible and relaxed. I did hero pose and others. Then, nice and stretched, I just lay still on the water and focused on the sound of my breathing and my heartbeat, the only things I could hear. Five hours later, I still have no pain. My body feels relaxed and heavy and happy. I will report back how long it lasts. For someone like me who lives in a state of chronic pain of varying severity, you just get used to pain. It hurts to stand/walk/sit/lie to varying degrees on various days, but something is almost always hurting on some level. To experience 90 minutes of being in a body free from that pain - free from gravity taking its toll on my joints - would be relief enough. But for it to give this relief even as I head off to bed is simply amazing. With practice in the tanks, I hope to eventually also be able to reach meditation state in my mind. (My mind got bored / restless the last half of the float... my mind is always going, and I find it hard to quieten my thoughts, so this will help over time, I am sure.) For now, doing, seeing and hearing nothing for 90 minutes, and the physical relief in my body, is more than enough. The rest will come in time. Afterward, there was water, tea and coffee to enjoy and we sat and relaxed and just talked with the owners a while. Great people. Give this place a visit. I had my very first float on Sunday, 1/19/14. This is something I have wanted to try for many years. Nashville Float & Massage is the first and only one in Tennessee. I was extremely anxious prior to going - 90 minutes of total isolation seemed a little unnerving. That said, I did cheat and left my tank door open which Mark said was fine. The lights in the room were on a motion sensor so once I was in the tank they went out. The only perceivable light was the equivalent of a couple candles. The water came to mid-shin and was approximately body temperature. I laid back and floated like a cork, never once touching the bottom of the tank despite the water being only about 10 inches deep. It was a surreal experience as I tried to get acclimated to being weightless. The water temperature is such that you feel one with the water. I couldn't perceive which parts of my body were in the water and which were floating above the water. I found that if I clasped my hands behind my head it allowed me to relax my neck and shoulders which was hard at first (they supply a neck pillow if needed), but I found this position very relaxing like reclining on a beach chair in the Caribbean. Being conscious & lying perfectly still was very odd for me so I stretched my body several times in different directions, cracked my knuckles (that's loud under water) and then started a gentle side-to-side swaying motion - fancying myself a bit of a MERMAID... but it was VERY relaxing. After what seemed like 40-45 minutes, I wondered if I could go for another 45 minutes then I faintly heard music playing under the water. That was the sign that my 90 minutes was up. REALLY? It has been 90 minutes??? I told Amy, "I can see why this could become addictive". She suggested I try different times of the day/week to see which is best for me. I'm even considering a late night float (2-1/2 hours). I did feel really relaxed even though I was conscious/awake the entire time - or, at least I think I was... I slept like a baby Sunday night. "Get Tanked"!! This is a once in a lifetime experience. But for me, it won't be ONCE. I am plotting my return to Nashville Float and Massage - probably in the next two weeks. Next time I will close the door and plan to follow up with a massage after. I can see myself becoming a regular fixture at this place and highly recommend it to everyone. I deal with a good bit of anxiety, depression, and it affects my way of life at times. Learning slowly to deal with it. This place really helped me with that. Sensory deprivation tanks are the focus of Float Nashville. Aptly titled, you have 90 minute sessions where you take a shower, get into the tank, and float on water and epsom salt for that time period. No sound, no light, you lose a large portion of feeling in the weightlessness of it. It is the best thing. Truly a vacation for the mind. The staff here was absolutely friendly. I did a night session (so 150 minutes instead of 90) for my first "float," and even at the late hour, had good interaction with the staff. They care about what they do, and can help you out with any questions or concerns. Each person's experience is one for themselves, so I won't bother getting into detail, but it did help me right a song in 15 minutes right after the session, so OF COURSE I think it does something right for the brain. Tip 1: If you are a night person, they do night sessions that start at 11pm. Goes 'till 1:30am. This is absolutely worth it! They are longer, so if you are worried about it being too long for the first time, maybe go with 90 minutes (you are free to exit/enter the tank as you would like though). Tip 2: As someone with a tighter budget, this isn't something I can do all the time, but $70 for one 90 minutes session is easy for me to commit to one time per a month. They sometimes do deals/offers, so have hope for that! Either way, you have to give this experience a try. Living in a small town has never before provided an opportunity for me. On a recent trip to Nashville, I learned about Float Nashville and along with a friend, determined to give it a try. I give credit to Mark and Amy for a well thought out, very clean and enjoyable experience. The term "thought of everything" comes first to mind. If you are going to try floating, this is the place to give it a go. I did not experience any of the joys of enlightenment, rushes of inspiration, or flashes of brilliance that some have ascribed to the practice. What I did experience was a very deep feeling of relaxation and calmness after the 90 minute float. I can see how it might help many from regular usage with stress reduction and some benefits for muscle aches and pains. Overall, I would highly recommend it to see what benefits you might experience. The downside risks are pretty minimal compared to the potential benefits. Have no doubts, you will float in the salt water solution. I'm always on the lookout for a way to help me get through my rough work weeks, and boy did I find a gem. Floating at float Nashville was more relaxing then I could've possibly imagined. No other service I've ever had has come close to the level of relaxation that floating has brought to me. I forgot how much I loved to float. I received a birthday float and went in after not having been for a while. Everyone knows how hectic life can be, which is why I had not been in some time. Had my float and instantly remembered why I loved it. The absolute nothingness.... I work in a fast paced high stress environment so after awhile my brain finally stopped spinning and I fell into that state of nothingness. It felt amazing!!! After the float I went and sat on the couch in the waiting area had a coffee and felt more relaxed than I had in some time. The staff there is amazing. From what I could see they are like a family. Having heard about deprivation tanks from friends, I was eager to try one and was able to convince my mom and sister to go with me. Float Nashville is a friendly and super clean. We were immediately welcomed. After we filled out their form we were given a tour of the facility and tips and tricks about floating. We had time to ask as many questions as we needed, although we were all eager to float. Once in your chosen Float chamber room, everything you need is at your disposal (shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, ear plugs, contact lens case & solution, q-tips, ear plugs, petroleum jelly - used to cover cuts...). They've thought of everything. You then take your shower and get into the tank. Immediately you are floating and limitless. The experience was amazing, each of us got something from the experience and we all want to go back. For me the biggest gift was the feeling of complete relaxation, that as a muscle memory and being able to get back to that state after the float easily and effortlessly. I've been to Float Nashville about a dozen times now and I'm grateful they're here in Nashville. The staff are super cool and friendly. The vibe is laid back and relaxed, naturally! When you float, you relax. So, my experience with floating started with mild curiosity. First couple times were a bit awkward and disorienting. But, I felt results immediately. Mostly physical, better sleep and it eased my low-back pain considerably. I'm a little more experienced and comfortable with floating now, and I have a monthly membership at Float Nashville. I first learned about the concept of sensory deprivation through the Joe Rogan podcast. Hearing him rave about the experience finally prompted me to give it a try. So I went on Yelp and found Float Nashville, which I believe is the only place in the area that specializes in float tanks. So the idea behind a sensory deprivation tank is pretty simple. You enter the chamber and lie down in a pool of water that is heated to your body temperature. Additionally, there are hundreds of pounds of epsom salt contained within the water which causes you to literally float. Finally, when the chamber door is closed, it becomes pitch black. So when you are all settled in, you are in a pitch black environment, it is absolutely silent, and you are suspended in this warm water that is not unlike embryonic fluid. At first, I was a little bit restless. We are constantly bombarded with all sorts of stimuli nowadays, and it is seemingly impossible to be alone and introspect. So maybe, for the first 25-30 minutes, I struggled with that dilemma of wanting to impulsively check email or the time. Eventually, however, the warm water sort of envelops you and it almost paralyzes you. It is in this state, free from outside distraction, that you are really able to achieve a certain level of mindfulness that is quite uncommon. It is sort of like what you imagine the experience would be like when new-age type people talk about things like nirvana and transcendent type of experiences. I can't speak to many of the various health claims, but I can say that the experience definitely has an effect on thought. Essentially, it is probably unlike anything else you've experienced in your life. I only had a 90-minute session, so before I knew it time was already up. My boyfriend booked us a float while we were in town for a Beachbody convention. We both were able to go at the same time thanks to multiple tanks. Upon walking in the woman at the desk was very kind. We filled out a waiver and when it was our turn she showed us the two tanks we could pick from. I went with an open tank since I've done the standard tanks before. The open tank was just as cool as a closed tank, I don have problems with claustrophobia but I can imagine anyone who does deal with that would appreciate the openness of the tank. I have consistently found their venue to be exceedingly clean, and well stocked with amenities. Their staff are friendly, and the booking process is easy. I particularly like that they have an open tank option. I find that its larger size and unenclosed format makes the experience less daunting if it's your first time. I highly recommend this float center to anyone who is looking to relax. If you don't have time to go on vacation this is a great alternative solution - I usually feel the same results as when I've been on vacation for a week! After 2 hours of almost complete sensory deprivation, in skin-temperature water, with 1000 pounds of dissolved medical grade Epsom salt (making the water just a few points away from being a solid), I can truly say I am a different person. A buddy who floated at the same time said he woke up today without back pain for the first time in awhile. OK, so it takes about 80% of the body's energy to sit or stand. When you're floating in viscous eye-drop solution, that free energy immediately puts you into theta state, in other words, that lucid half asleep half awake dreamland that you go to in the morning right before waking life. It's where Tibetan monks go when they meditate. In theta state you are the most creative. Depending on where your mind wants to go, theta state can be a gateway to peace or playground. How could you not like 90 minutes of complete silence and relaxation?! I'm a little claustrophobic so I was a little nervous to try floating but since I had a gift card I decided to buck up and try it out! My sister, who is also a little claustrophobic told me that she had no problems going in the enclosed tanks so I followed her advice and booked myself for the Oasis Tank. It was incredible! It took me about 15 minutes of being restless and getting used to floating there before I felt myself truly relax and then I just floated, effortlessly. I've been having back problems and some anxiety so it was amazing to feel my back start to relax and I could feel my shoulders relax from their usual spot up around my ears. :/ I was surprised when I actually shut the door fully and sat in pitch black and did not freak out. In fact, it was more relaxing with the door shut. So for those of you that are a little afraid of the dark, a little claustrophobic or just an anxious person, at least shut the door for a few minutes to give it a shot, it's not nearly as intimidating and scary as our minds will lead us to believe. The shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and lotion were all great quality and it was nice to have a shower with such nice products there for before and after my float. I also loved having the option of a neck pillow for the tank. I floated with one and without and couldn't decide which I liked more! This place is amazing! Very relaxing atmosphere. You can make yourself a hot tea or coffee while you wait. Several flavors and options. They have some of the best free lotions and shampoos. The tank rooms are just as nice as the lobby. There's little books you can draw and write in about your experience which was really cool. Definitely going again. read more

If you've ever been curious about floating, this is the place to try it out. I'm going to not so much review or explain floating, but focus on the Nashville Float experience. The space is nice; very cozy and inviting without being pretentious. The two float rooms are laid out in a very intuitive way, with the shower area adjacent to the entry door on the float tank. I can't stress how clean and sanitary the facility is. I'm one of those people that don't shower at the gym because I think it's gross, but I had no qualms about my prefloat shower. I showed up a bit early, and one of the owners let me start my float session early, and they'll let you stay in longer than your allotted time if no one has an appointment scheduled after yours. My float session was awesome, and even now, hours after, I still feel relaxed, calm and centered. Speaking of the owners, I met both and they're very nice, knowledgeable and passionate about floating. This is good because they're the entire staff right now. What an AMAZING experience! This was my first time floating. I am a single mom of an 11-year old boy. So, the idea of being in silence for 90 minutes kind of frightened me. :) The float room was nice and warm and very inviting. Mark took me into the room and did a great job of explaining everything to me. Once he left the room, I put my earplugs in. After I took my shower, I entered the tank and pulled the door closed behind me. After I laid down in the water, I freaked out a little and decided to prop the door to the tank open with a towel. I wasn't afraid of the darkness it was that the air in the tank is very humid and heavy due to the temperature of the water and the high salt content. So, I sort of felt like there wasn't enough air. After I propped the door open and laid back down, I focused on trying to calm my mind and control my breathing (reminding myself there was plenty of air). At first, as I was laying there I was thinking there is NO WAY I can lay here for 90 minutes - I will probably have to get out sooner and cut my float short. But, as I laid there I noticed how relaxed I was and how I felt like I was laying in a bed. You are suspended in 10 inches of water and do not have to do any work to stay afloat due to the Epsom Salt. I really couldn't tell where my body was in the time-space continuum. Several times, I had that muscle twitch you get when you fall asleep sometimes - where it wakes you up. I kept thinking - man I am never going to fall asleep in here. The last time I had the muscle twitch I remember thinking - man I bet I have only been in here for 30 minutes, I still have another hour to go. Right after that thought left my mind, I heard the faint music start to play telling me my float session was over. I had a WONDERFUL time in my float session and am looking forward to doing it again very soon! Next time I will want to try to get a massage after my float. What a great way to get out those tough knots - get them nice and relaxed in your float and then the therapist will have a much easier time getting them out. As most other reviewers have noted, Float Nashville's staff are friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and helpful; the facilities are immaculately clean and maintained; there is a amazing emphasis placed on customer service. I've floated five times, tried all the tanks, and have had a positive experience each time. I'm prone to claustrophobia, but have never had any problems with the enclosed tanks. My interest in flotation therapy was piqued by the science behind it. Last year I had a very nasty bout with breast cancer -- four surgeries and massive reconstruction -- which produced a substantial amount of stress and trauma. The concept of using sensory deprivation to 'reboot' the brain and reset the relationship between the body and brain, very much appealed to me, beyond the notion that floating is a hip, new age, zen kind of trendy thing to do -- not that there's anything wrong with that! I've experienced definite positive results, including extreme relaxation, calm, and better sleep. After my third float, I noticed improved mental focus and motivation. My stress levels have eased dramatically, not to mention all the benefits of exposure to such concentrated levels of Epsom salts. As a result, I have signed up for the monthly membership offered by Float Nashville. I do think this will continue to help me physically and mentally. It's an interesting experience, to be sure, but, at least in my case, it has become a valuable component to my overall health and well being. read more

There is a reason that there are so few reviews yet they are always booked.....it's indescribable. If you review their website and watch one or two of their quick videos and it is still appealing to you, don't even hesitate, DO IT. Everything was so well explained to me upon my first visit, they have plenty of shampoo, conditioner, towels, etc. and everything is spotless. One thing I wish I had noticed prior to going into my tank was that they had neck floats over by the bench. Surprisingly I found that I couldn't find a totally relaxed spot for my neck like I could my arms and legs, but that's probably exactly why they have the neck floats. I propped open my door a teeny bit with a towel, but the next time I won't because even with the little night light it was still too bright. I was running late and only able to do an hour instead of the 90 minutes, but I can only imagine what the 90 minutes would be like seeing the 60 was AMAZING. If you have ever thought about doing this, do it. I was a total skeptic and held out as long as I could but finally broke down and have been relaxed and sleeping like a baby ever since! read more
