My wife and I were stuck in traffic that added 3.5 hours to our drive (when the 5 got shut down) and the Float staff moved mountains to accommodate our situation and find a time that worked for us later in the day. My boyfriend purchased me the float spa day as a birthday gift...50 min body polish, 80 min. massage, and 50 min signature facial. It was an absolute treat, with yasmeen as my polisher and masseuse and Heidi doing my facial. This is not the most opulent spa that I've walked into- it's more zen and " no frills"- however, the services are truly luxurious which more than makes up for the streamlined decor. From the cozy robes, to the quaint and relaxing courtyard and snacks provided, all the small details are covered. Additionally, the products used are decadent smelling and feeling and the services are provided in a professional, yet pampering manner. While a full spa day is not in my budget to do regularly , I won't be going anywhere else for my facials and next time I'll be bringing my daughter with me as we've both been searching for the "perfect" facial in SB. The spa day package is a worthwhile splurge and I'd highly recommend either the full spa day or any one of the services individually! read more

My husband and I came to Santa Barbara for our babymoon and wanted to get a couples massage. I found Float from reviews on Yelp. I booked a prenatal massage while he got a regular one. When we arrived we filled out a sheet of paper which asked some great questions like what kind if music you want to hear and how much talking you like during the massage. You also got to pick a lotion fragrance (or like me I got unscented since my skin is sensitive during this pregnancy). They lead you to the ladies locker room where you can change into a robe and wear their flip flops (which were super comfy...I wish I could've took them home :-p) and lock up your stuff. The locker room is small but offers lockers, a shower, bathroom and mirror area with toiletries you can use including mouth wash, hair spray, combs/brushes, blow drier and lotion. I don't recall seeing face wash/make up remover which would have been nice to use in case you want to remove your make up before your treatment. Luckily there wasn't anyone in there while I was but it could get cramped if there are a lot of people. After changing they lead you upstairs to their lounge area where you can have tea/water and some snacks (nuts, dried cranberries or dried blue berries). Btw the men's locker room is upstairs as well. After we relaxed for 10-15 min our massage therapists came to greet us and bring us to our room. It was a room in the back overlooking the garden. For a prenatal massage they had me lay on my side and I could place a pillow between my legs. I would eventually flip to my other side and then my back so they could finish the massage. The experience was great and we enjoyed ourselves very much. The massage was a good amount of firmness and they would use hot towels on my back and feet. They mainly concentrated on my back and neck but it felt great to have my legs and arms rubbed too. I felt the price was reasonable (around $200 without tip) and I would definitely return if we're ever in the area. read more

This was the biggest waste of money. My husband and I purchased an 80 minute couple's massage. My masseuse only rubbed me for about 10 minutes. The rest of the time she lightly pressed one or two fingers into various parts of my body, rearranged my blankets and rummaged through items on the counter. Often, I couldn't feel her or hear her for several minutes at a time. I asked her to pay special attention to my hands and feet. She lightly glazed her fingers over my toes for about 30 seconds and did not rub my hands. Instead of rubbing my head or neck, she simply placed her hands under my head ...and didn't move for several minutes. At this point, I was feeling so ripped off that I wanted to tell her to stop right then and there and refund me for unused time. However, I didn't want to disturb my husband. It was only after our massages were through that I found out my husband was equally unhappy. My husband and I get massages all the time, but this is far and away the worst "massage" experience we have ever had. What a waste!! read more

What an unexpected surprise! I didn't know anything about Float and I booked 80 minute massages for a friend and me for an escape from work day at the last minute. We arrived early and were greeted nicely. We sat by the fireplace and had a cup of tea. Both our massages were in the upstairs rooms. Both of us thought they were among the best massages we ever got (and I get a LOT of massages!). I had a couple problem areas and my therapist knew exactly what to do - she was amazing. I've never written a Yelp review before, but Float was so good I couldn't help myself. My massage therapist knew exactly what she was doing to fix my badly screwed up neck. Everything she did was intentional and purposeful. Not only was my massage therapist excellent, but the spa atmosphere was just about perfect for me. The thought of a locker room style spa might be off putting, but it was stocked with shaving supplies, face wash, and nice quality lotion. Not to mention, the lockers are large enough to not have to cram everything in and they felt secure. The facilities were very clean as well. I got to Float a little early, so I was able to change into a robe and flip flops, provided by Float, and lounge by the fire place in the communal lounge area while sipping on fruit infused water letting all my stress melt away. I love massages and spas. I work hard and this tends to be my go-to for recharging. I've been to quite a few. This one is at the top of my favorites list. It wasn't cheap, but it was worth every hard earned penny I spent. The next time I'm in Santa Barbara, I will be going back to Float. read more

Okay, in terms of massage this was not first rodeo. I understand there is a difference between 'spa' and 'therapeutic' massage. But for the cost of this 'massage', I would never go back. This was really just applying lotion. My mother & I both got treatments and had the same experience. I had an absolute amazing experience here! I was in SB for my birthday and was in desperate need of a massage so I relied on Yelp to point me in the right direction. Even though Float only had 3 reviews they were all 5 stars and the Float website ended up sealing the deal. I work in the Spa industry and I have really high expectations for a Day spa experience and I am happy to report Float exceeded my expectations. It's an absolutely beautiful space, very clean and modern. The woman at the front desk was extremely accommodating and even offered to print out directions to my next destination. One of my favorite touches was that they allow you to customize your experience beforehand. They ask you to fill out an intake form that asks for your music preference and how much conversation you prefer during your massage. The locker room is on the smaller side with only one shower but what it lacks in size it makes up in functionality. It was extremely clean and comfortable and that's what's most important to me. My massage was perfect pressure and my therapist was phenomenal! She listened to my needs and was very in tune with how I was feeling throughout the massage. I highly recommend this spa!!! Cons: The locker room had most toiletries you would need except face wash, eye makeup remover and facial moisturizer. For me these things are essential in a ladies locker room but that is literally my only complaint! Go to Float, seriously you won't regret it. This was my second time at Float Spa. The place is small, but very cozy. The masseuses are very experiences, as my friends and I all had amazing 1.5 massages. The bathroom/changing area are a little tight - if there are over 3 people in there at the same time, it's very tight to change and get ready. Overall, I love this spa, and that's why it was my second time going there (I live out of town). One big negative was that as I was trying to relax by the fireplace there was a large group of 17 young ladies that rolled in with champagne and noise! I assume it was a bachelorette party of sorts, and I'm very happy for them, but they were extremely loud and obnoxious. In my opinion, the spa should've closed for a private event with that amount of people squeezed into an already tight space. Needless to say, I was unable to enjoy some peace and quiet, and my friends and I rushed out of there. read more

I've been to Float four times, twice for facials and twice for waxing services. My first facial with Helena was phenomenal. It was my first facial ever, and Helena explained each step. She is clearly very knowledgeable. This is a great place for a facial, but I would not go back for the wax services, though. The esthetician asked me why I wanted to get a Brazilian wax... which I felt was a very uncomfortable question. I haven't been back since. Ambiance is great. The only luxurious thing about this spa is the price. Paid approx $200 (including tax and tip) for a 60 min massage + brushing. There are no spa facilities whatsoever, the female bathroom (for the entire spa) consisted of one shower stall and one toilet, unless there are only one guest at each time, this is extremely insufficient. If you are used to the Four Seasons, Burke Williams or is a spa-regular, your spa cravings will most likely be left unmet. read more

This place is absolutely pleasant. The spa itself is very quaint and peaceful, with a beautiful lounge and garden in the back to relax after your treatment. You are greeted with a warm welcome and the staff ensures the client that all their needs are met, whether you are receiving a massage, or facial, they really listen to you! Music, amount of talk, even fragrances you choose for massage during the service, are all complimented to your liking. This place simply rocks. We booked a couples massage here after a morning of paddle boarding, and they could not have been more accommodating. Stephanie (I think she might have been an owner) was awesome and super nice. They really have this day spa thing down pat. Gorgeous surroundings and treatment rooms, ultra comfy robes and water dispensers are everywhere. Our massages were heavenly, and my husband (who's not a spa kinda guy) remarked afterwards, "I think I get why you like this sort of stuff so much now". Next time we are in SB, we will def. Wow! I just took advantage of a gift certificate that I received for my Birthday and had the MOST wonderful Champagne fizz facial and salt foot rub with Heidi. The facilities though small, are clean,quiet and very "Zen". This was one of the most enjoyable spa experiences that I have had and my skin looks and feels amazing. Just visited this gem yesterday and I fell in love with this place immediately. Upon walking in the door the aroma takes over and puts you in a sense of relaxation. We did the 50 min float special and the therapist were amazing. They inquired if we had any special request and focused on what we presented. Had an amazing spa service at Float! Woke up to a chilly SB morning so called and they were beyond accommodating and squeezed me in for a signature 50 min massage. When I came in I filled out a quick form and then was taken to the locker room to change into their robe and slippers. The relaxation room upstairs had fruit infused water, dried fruit, granola, and trail mix. It also had a beautiful fireplace which was perfect for the brisk morning and they offered a warm neck pillow while you wait. One woman was a regular and was getting her monthly facial and wax and was greeted by name by the staff which was a nice touch. I was picked up by my therapist and taken to the room which had a heated table and had an incredible 50 min massage. Pressure was perfect and hit on all the problem spots. Afterwards they showed me to the reflection pool out back. All in all a great way to spend a Saturday. Great service all around -will definitely return on my next visit to SB. read more

Since we don't live in Santa Barbara we didn't have any idea what this place would be like and our only word of mouth was through Yelp, so we were taking a bit of a gamble. Our risk payed off, though, because our massages were so relaxing and rejuvenating... we can't speak highly of them enough. Went here last month for the first time and loved it! Excellent customer service, beautiful & very clean atmosphere, products smelled/felt great, and my technician was amazing. Even though I was the last appointment of the day, I didn't feel rushed at all. In fact, they encouraged me to stay after my treatment to relax in their facilities, giving me a tour and reminding me about the refreshment station. They even closed down the spa for a few hours for our group which was super nice. My fiance and I went in for Float's "Signature" massage this past Saturday. Float's great reviews made us very excited to get massages. Their website says that their signature massage is "A therapeutic customized massage using medium to deep pressure to revitalize and an aromatherapy hot pack to melt away stress." I had a female masseuse and I thought she was great. She checked in with me before we started, and throughout the massage to make sure everything was ok and to my needs. I came away feeling very relaxed and peaceful. Unfortunately, my fiance did not have the same experience. She had a male masseuse, and he never checked in with her the entire time. Because I booked the massage for her, she wasn't entirely clear on what to expect. Instead of providing the signature massage, the masseuse provided a combination of very light pressure massage, and accu pressure. After the massage, when I found my fiance in the lobby, she was very uncomfortable and just wanted to get out of there. I didn't know why at the time and proceeded to give both of our masseuses tips, assuming they had gone well. Once outside, my fiance explained to me what happened. The whole experience just kind of creeped her out and she wasn't comfortable saying anything as a result. As you can imagine, I was distressed to hear that. After talking about it with her further, I sent an e-mail to Float after we returned back to the bay area where we live, explaining to them her experience and that I felt we should get a refund for her massage, but that I was very happy with mine. When they responded a couple days later, they expressed concern and appreciation for letting them know. They offered us a 50% discount on a future massage with the hope that my fiance would have a better experience, but we live 300+ miles away and had no plans for a return trip at the time, so in a subsequent e-mail, they offered a 20% refund instead and suggested that the massage my fiance received was what we had paid for (not true) and encouraged her to speak up in the future to avoid something like this from happening again. I did not feel that was an appropriate response, given the circumstances and let them know that I did not want a 20% refund and would be providing an honest account of our experience here. We will not be returning to Float. read more

I went back to Float after trying a few other places and I realized how much money I was wasting at Float. Float is typically $200 (including tip) for a 1.5 hour massage, and for that you should expect an exceptional massage. Santa Barbara has many, many exceptional therapists so anyone charging that amount should be offering exceptional massages. The last float massage...I have had better massages on the beach in Mexico for $5. Wow. I was embarrassed that I have been spending so much money at Float when I get massages twice as good elsewhere in SB for 1/2 the price. read more
