Ticket cost $33 dollars each. After the debut film at The Harvey, we walked a block away to One Hanson. What a place to have a party. Beautiful interior, that becomes special at night time for an event like this. Included with my ticket came, unlimited alcohol, unlimited beer, unlimited wine, unlimited sno-cones (with liquor poured inside), a fully stocked candy bar and tons of food in the back. My date told me what an great night I planned. I was like "Duh, I planned it." I had no idea some much came included with my ticket but totally played it off like I did. They informed us the party would end at midnight but it kept going well past that. It was an epic event. I plan to hit it up next year again for sure. I'd tell you to do so too but you better not take my seat!

I think I kept bumping into people because I couldn't stop looking up at the vaulted ceiling and elegant light fixtures throughout. I'd love to come here someday for a smaller event, as Flea is amazing (highly recommend) but so crowded that things can get overwhelming. Still, absolutely a must-see if you're in the area, even to just pop in and check out the building itself.

I'm hooked! He also let us record ourselves at the very end so we can keep ourselves accountable and be able to see ourselves improve with time. We started off with stretches on yoga mats and then floor stretches, then basic steps on the pole. I never once felt judged at all, and he came around to help us all individually. We also cleaned our poles with the provided wipes and sprays. Tips: wear biker shorts and sports bra/tank, skin contact will help with the movements on the pole.

I started off as a Pole 1 student and have progressed to Pole 3, thanks to its diverse instructors. CandyCane hosts a lot of fun events such as their student showcases, bring a buddy nights, and professional photoshoots. Their prices are pretty affordable in comparison to other studios, which makes CandyCane a standout in NYC. What would take this studio to another level is making classes 1 hr 15 min. One hour classes are way too short, and if you consider the time it takes to warm up and cool down, it doesn't allow for much time to practice in between. There should also be a ~10 minute break in between classes to allow instructors and students to transition. The studio would also benefit from bringing back Pole 2 classes for those at the intermediate level. I'm personally an early bird so it'd be nice to have more pole 3/open level classes during the day time. This isn't a dealbreaker since some people enjoy evening sessions and it works with their availability. Overall, I've had a fun journey at CandyCane. Ron (the owner) is friendly and supportive. I look forward to seeing CandyCane continue to grow :-)

My friends and I came here for the batting cage. We made reservations ahead of time online and it…read moreas about $65 for 2 ppl for 30min. Kind of steep but the cage is all yours with unlimited balls. You can also not reserve and walk in and see if there are free cages. If you do the walk in then you can buy tokens which I think are about $3 for 10 pitches. I recommend doing the reservations so you don't have to worry about finding an empty cage. You can bring your own helmet, gloves, and bat or they have helmets and bats on site for you to borrow for free. There are 4 cages and they each have different ball speeds. We rented cage 1 which was the fastest one- (there are two modes; softball and baseball for each of the cages). I would recommend doing softball and working your way to baseball once you are comfortable. There are also other activities in the chelsea piers space such as the driving range, bowling, etc. So if you're done batting and want to do something else, there are plenty of choices.

You can buy tokens at the front desk - it's $3 per token, and a token will give you ten pitches. There are four cages total, including ones that pitches faster balls. All but one cage for lefties were occupied at first. While righties had to wait a while, as a lefty I was able to start batting right away. You can choose either baseball or softball for each cage. Softball is thrown at slower speed than baseball. I started with softball and it was nice that I got used to getting balls thrown at me at slower speeds, then try baseball. It was difficult to switch between baseball and softball because I had to adjust my reaction time significantly. But the more I bat, the more I want to do better and spend more time. Yet the cost adds up quickly so we were counting the pitches closely to that we don't spend too much (actually, it was more like my friends were paying attention). If you don't feel like spending much for batting, you might as well buy a glove, a bat, and a ball, get some friends and pitch outside.

First of all, their programs for kids to learn and play tennis are FREE. You don't even need to buy a racquet. Second of all, during the warm months, they usually have more than 60 locations all over NYC (depending on the funding), so there is bound to be a location in your neighborhood. Third, they have State-Certified guidance counselors with Masters degrees on staff to help kids in the program to choose the right high school or a college for them, or help students if they have trouble in school, or with filling out all sorts of applications for colleges or scholarships.

This grand opening and renovation has been showing up on my newsfeed for the past month or two and I finally came for open play today... and while the price was great $10 for 2 hours (during grand opening week) however Velto was not it. We came with a large group of friends (20+ people) and practically booked out the open play several times that they ended up opening up more slots and courts for it, everyone knew everyone.. literally. However the lady working there kept barking orders into the speaker phone every other shot that it was so hard to focus on games itself. First of all this is open play not boot camp, second of all we are all friends. There's no reason to be dictating which courts which person should play on... after nonstop barking into the microphone for the first 15 min straight it just killed the whole vibes. We alI just wanted a moment of peace and silence to focus on our games. Everyone i came with echoed the same thoughts. While i understand that 6 people per court allows for the best rotation, some people rotate courts so that they are not stuck playing the same people the whole time (at least that's how it is in every other locations open play) the lady was like YOU CAN NOT HAVE MORE THAN 2 paddles queueing at once... if we don't mind waiting an extra game and we are fine waiting an extra game or two... does it matter if there's 2 stacks queue? The other courts would have no wait and they can play back to back games.... what's the issue? We are all friends there and she was aware that we knew each other from the beginning. Cons: #1 the lady and her damn speakerphone telling us not to piss her off (like.... lol?), the court absorbs the bounce, the back two courts have a weird slope that you are practically running up a slope after serving or if you are running backwards to try to hit a lob you need to watch your footing cause of the uneven ground.. one of my friend tripped and ran into the wall cause of the slope. This is kinda surprising cause I was watching videos on my feed of them digging up the floors and laying new flooring etc. The overhead lighting blinds you, the kitchen and the court is the same color and the lighting makes it hard to see if a ball is in or out cause everything is the same color. There is no water fountain. Pros: although the temperature didn't work for me I appreciate that they had the heat on and was not cheap with the heat, I just wished that it was lower cause on the back court it hits you in the face every time you pass the mid court. there was ample seating around the courts and I can appreciate that they put effort into the aesthetics with the plexi glass and there is a locker area and vending machines incase any one was hungry or thirsty. note to management- explain the rules in the beginning of open play and then just let everyone have fun. there is no reason for your workers to be interrupting the games and barking orders every 5 min

The instructor Jimmy, or by his Brazilian name- Monitor Zoinho, is very fun, upbeat and introduces unique methods of teaching Capoeira. He is a very high-level Capoerista, yet knows what a beginner, or an intermediate student needs. The group is kind and welcoming, and the studio is conveniently located by the F, G and R trains, in the beautiful and chic neighborhood of Gowanus. There are lots of good places to eat at after class, which the group often does together. This also helps bond the group. The studio itself is big and clean with nice floors. I definitely recommend this class for newbies as well as experienced Capoeiristas!
