Eating here is not super cheap, but I enjoyed my meal and dessert a lot. The baguette sandwiches are pretty large and come with a small house salad on the side and some kettle cooked chips. The salmon tandoori sandwich was tasty. The grilled chicken sandwich (also has bacon and avocado) was delicious as well. The fruit tart hit the spot too & was very good. This is truly one of my favorite coffee and dessert cafes! You definitely feel like you're in a Parisian cafe when you're there. There's ample amount of parking, there's a lot of indoor and outdoor seating, marble dining tables, great customer service, and delicious French pastries and drinks. There's a brunch/breakfast and lunch menu, you order and choose from the pastries (which are available all day) and then pay at the counter. I could sit here for hours! On this visit we ordered a kid's breakfast pancakes, which by the way was 2/3 the size of an adult's, a savory chicken crepe which was delicious but a little dry to be honest, an asparagus quiche which was PHENOMENAL. Every time I eat a Flo quiche it makes me want to try to figure out how to cook them better, then I remember how mine can never turn out quite as good. We also got some coffee. I always like going to Flo's as a hearty breakfast to start the day if I plan to be on this side of town. The service is friendly, they gave my baby a macaron on the house (which he annihilated), and the food always has lots of attention to detail to it. On a rainy Monday at lunchtime, the restaurant was less than half full -- so there was no wait to order or find a table. Score! However, the food still was a little slow to come out. Their baguette sandwiches are tasty and huge -- a big part of why they taste so good is that the baguette has the perfect amount of crusty-ness. I got the grilled chicken sandwich, and it was really good. I normally like more meat in my sandwiches, but despite the large amount of lettuce in the sandwich it was delicious! The only thing I might change would be to request slightly less of the mayo dressing that was mixed into the sandwich. Plummeting, overpriced, inconsistent... When this place first opened, it was GREAT. I came about once a week and regularly referred people to it. There aren't many French bakeries in Houston, so an additional one was very welcomed. There was good range in offerings and great quality. As they've grown, the quality has plummeted. I write this as I eat a $9 sandwich on stale bread, and hardly enough of anything to justify it. I occasionally come back, wishing for the old. I think today will be the last tome. I'm coming to terms with the fact that they just aren't good anymore :( -- the good news is the other bakery in the the area has been consistently great for 20 years- they moved into much bigger space within recent years and they've managed to scale with the highest quality. What can I say except this place is spectacular! I come here as many mornings as schedule and budget allows during the week to pick up my incredible breakfast pastry. I've tried probably all of themby now. I'm sure I've made status as a regular! They used to rotate more pastries which I LOVED but now they have a pretty standard menu. I've tried many of the desserts too, all of which are very good, but I come really for the breakfast pastries. We came back from our first trip to France, fell in love with the city, and this place is by far the closest and really only thing we have tried that reminds us of legit French pastries. Fav items: almond croissant, Nutella croissant, the big ispahan macaron, mille feuille. This place is way better than Common Bond. It is not comparable. Common bond the croissant does not taste like a French croissant really at all, much too light and delicate especially the outside crust. Flo croissants are light on the inside, obviously flavorful and buttery, but the outside is appropriately thicker and crunchier and flakier, and just better. The first time we went, we ate the savory stuff, I think a sandwich and crepe. We didn't really like them, but that was early on and maybe they are better than before. Used to be a fantastic place for fine French fare. Unfortunately it has gone down in quality over the last few years whether it's due to management or lack of customer service/proper employee training - I am not sure. But it seems they are inconsistent across the board as each time we visit - and we are fairly frequent customers - they either out of this or that or something. If you are gonna offer a full menu - make sure you are prepared to serve the FULL MENU or write a note that says when specific items are available such as quiche, etc. which they have wonderful ones by the way but apparently they do not start making those until 10am? They OPEN at 8am...but not full menu ?? strange and again very inconsistent with good customer service for such a pricey restaurant that claims itself as "authentic French" ....you'd expect better and they probably CAN do better if they actually hired knowledgeable employees who received proper training in etiquette/taking orders. Its a shame because this place used to be a favorite...now not so much...:(. Food wise - they are great spot for breakfast- much better than La Madeline, but the lack of and inconsistency in customer service is what deters us from coming here in the future. read more

Buddy of mine treated me here for lunch today. Customer service was very on point - we were greeted with smiles from everyone and the young lady even gave me a recommendation because I was so indecisive. The atmosphere is welcoming, clean & fresh. It is actually very "at-home" inside. I got a grilled chicken crepe, yum! The crepe was fluffy and light, as it should be. I'll admit I had dessert before I did my entre... NO REGRETS!!! There is a counter full of pastries for you to choose from, and just whoa was it hard for me to decide. Came here today in the afternoon for an afternoon pick me up. I was in the mood for something sweet and decided to try this place because of the high Yelp ratings. I go in and the place is very chic and modern, as well as the pastry designs. I look at all the pastries, but unfortunately found myself not having a large variety. I ended up selecting a chocolate cake layered with raspberries & whipped cream. It was pretty plain in taste. I felt like I was eating chocolate cake layered with whip cream. Overall this dessert was not worth the seven dollars. I've had better dessert at H-E-B for three dollars. I don't know if it was just the desert that I went with or the fact that they just have desserts that look good, but don't taste good. I also ordered a cappuccino which was OK- nothing spectacular. 4 stars! This place is nice and petite. It's in the corner of the plaza. It isn't my first time tasting the dessert here, but it was my first time arriving to the place. They also serve breakfast and brunch here if some people didn't know. The dessert is presentable, but they didn't have much to display. Some of the name and price tags for some the desserts were hard to read like the font and some had coverings over it. I felt like the cashier was kind of rushing me as I had other people go ahead of me, but my order didn't take no longer than 5 minutes. I think they can improve on their suggestions in order to sell to customers too. But I didn't let that bother me, I ordered 3 macaroons ($2 each) Vanilla, Rose, & Raspberry. I also ordered a Lemon Meringue ($6) and a Red Velvet for my mother in law ($6). The Lemon Meringue was a bit sweet like a couple of bites and you'd have sugar rush lasting the whole day. This place is adorably decorated, tucked away into a corner of a shopping center. Immediately when you walk in, you'll see pastries. Your mouth starts watering. You can order hot food and delicious coffee, lattes, etc. The staff seems to be French, and I'm a sucker for accents. Major ripoffs ... ordered my birthday cake that should look like picture on site with chocolate filling, from Rice village location, I ended up with a caramel one with nothing looking like the one I chose (left) and worse the caramel was so hard to the point where my friends could not eat it. I was told it would cost $80 but when my sister went to pick it up , they charged her $150 and knew about it later in the evening. I tried to reach out to them but they never got back to me. I had started writing that Flo Paris is the Meek Mill to Common Bond's Drake. In light of recent events, I was desperate to work that analogy into one of my reviews. But it just wasn't clicking, and Flo is far from being as pathetic as Meek, so I scrapped the idea. Flo is the newcomer in town. It aims to be as authentic as any bistro operating in Paris, and it certainly helps that the owners have spent 20 years in France doing just that. The lunch menu has baguette sandwiches, savory crepes, and sweet crepes. Thanks for keeping things uncomplicated, unlike most relationship statuses these days. The display case has one job- cast a hazy spell on you and entice you into buying a million pastries and cakes. I only ended up with two, a salted caramel macaron and lemon tart, so I think I did okay. BTW, the server was not very helpful. I asked for her recommended faves, and she simply listed every dessert available. Well, they're clearly labeled, so...zero value added. The setup is casual but cute. I liked the Eiffel tower wallpaper and the wall of clocks. The food is certainly palatable, but I wouldn't say it's tres magnifique. I enjoyed the grilled chicken crepe with cheese, mushroom, pesto and avocado. It's hard to mess this one up. The lemon tart was imbalanced, much more sweet than tart. The macaron shell was crunchy (the worst), but the salted caramel filling in the middle was perfectly gooey. For the same price of $2.50 a piece, Common Bond definitely wins. Can I suggest replacing the plastic utensils with real silverware? It was extremely difficult to cut through the crust of my lemon tart and my friend's smoked salmon pastry. And the use of paper plates just screams cheap. You know the French are too snobby for that. My friend also ordered a red velvet cheesecake, which she ended up giving to me after one bite, because it was too sweet. There's nothing French about it, but I thought it was tres bien (I have tres limited vocabulary). This may not be the best bakery in the game, but it has its moments. Flo Paris, the challenger to Common Bond's distinction as best bakery in Houston. Relatively new, Flo is tucked away in a shopping center on Westheimer. Comparing and contrasting to Common Bond, Flo is larger with more seating and more of an industrial feel. The seats, while they look trendy, are more a piece of artwork then somewhere you want to sit for extended periods of time. I'm actually there right now writing this review and my back hurts. $5 bucks to any Yelper that gives me a back massage in the next 20 minutes. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity! I digress. The food is what we're here to talk about. The selection is larger than Common Bond and features an assortment of tarts, macarons, eclairs, cupcakes, etc. There are also savory options including fresh bread, croque messieur, etc. I went with the pain au chocolat (a mini sweet baguette with chocolate). Fantastic and can't be beat for only $1. I also had the ham and swiss sandwich on a French baguette for $9. While a little pricey, it's pretty big and I could only inhale half of it. Like Common Bond, it's a little pricey but you're paying for quality and freshness. The main distinction I can make between the two: more choices at Flo Paris but maybe less unique items that you've never heard of before like you'll find at Common Bond. read more

Checked this place out for an early morning UYE breakfast. Nice place conveniently located in the corner of a strip. Super cute atmosphere and friendly staff. I had a caramel latte and the Vancouver sandwich which included scrambled eggs, homemade pesto, bacon, goat cheese, served with a side salad. My breakfast sandwich was really good there was no crumb left behind. The latte was on point with the flavor, sweetness, and was done in no time. I was looking forward to a fancy new Parisian bakery, but Flo falls just a tad short. It's in the corner of a plaza near the Galleria, and there's a cute little patio outside. Unfortunately, all you can see from it is the parking lot :P. The inside is bright and colorful, and the display of desserts looks very appetizing from far away. When you get closer though, you can see that the desserts are very large and look a little clumsily made. They don't have that perfect, meticulous look that I expect from French pastries. A lot of them boasted a LOT of cream- either pastry cream or whipped cream- that took over the pastry. There were cream filled macarons (huge ones too trying to be ispahans), eclairs, tarts, cream puffs, and cakes. My friends and I got a berry tart, mille feuille, and apricot cookie to share. The pastry cream in the berry tart and the mille feuille was the same. The tart part of the berry tart was very hard and more like a shortbread cookie than a tart crust. Nonetheless, it was yummy because I enjoy shortbread cookies :3. The mille feuille was very flaky and dry. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like that, but it was hard to eat it with the pastry cream because it just kind of fell apart. The apricot cookie also wasn't anything too special. The prices are fairly reasonable ($4-$6 for pastries) but I expected the food to be better, especially since Common Bond and Tout Suite's prices are similar. Everything is served on paper plates trying to look fancy, and they have plastic utensils pretending to be metal ones. I'm guessing they're trying to have the image of a more casual Parisian cafe. It seems to be a family run business, so I hope they can succeed. read more

Their coffee was good, and everyone was very impressed with the taste and presentation of the desserts. The macarons are expectedly delicious. The downside is that everything here is a bit pricey. What I love about this place is the layout and overall ambiance. This cafe is located in the corner of a not so nice looking plaza - but the inside is so much nicer. They have both long tables for big crowds and smaller ones just fitting 3-4 people. There's good lighting - so it might even be a good place to study. Just beware that it does tend to get a bit crowded, so it can be noisy. This is a great place to casually hang out. read more

Decent brunch option in H town. Not crowded on a Sunday morning. Parking was easy. We got the almond croissant. It was not the kind of flanky but more on the soggy end. I came here for breakfast on a weekday and there wasn't a crowd. I was greeted by a nice young man (wish I had asked his name) and he was very nice and helpful as well as the young lady at the cashier. I am so glad I found this bakery/cafe it is real treat! The aroma of fresh pastries hit me as soon as I walked into the door. I ordered 2 breakfast items as well as a side of bacon and 3 different pastries. My order came out to $43 which isn't bad at all! My croissant benedict with spinach and salmon was delicious! The croissant was nice and flaky on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside. I don't even like croissants or eat them often but this was real yummy! I had the red velvet cake, Exotic passion fruit cake and a Strawberry Chantilly. All delicious I couldn't even finish them all unfortunately. Each pastry was around $5 or $6 each which isn't bad at all. I'm going to start this review by saying I'm a sucker for French pastries. I stumbled across this listing on Yelp, so naturally I had to go check it out. This place was easy to find. It's located in the corner of the same shopping center as Cafe Lili. The owners were very nice and welcoming. Apparently they've been open for only 4 days! I ordered a millefeuille and a cappuccino. The millefeuille was excellent! The layers were perfectly crispy, and the filling was just right. The cappuccino was great too. I didn't even have to add any sweetener like I do at some places when the coffee isn't fresh. A lady in front of me ordered a sandwich that looked absolutely delicious, so I will have to come here for lunch soon. The decor is simple and modern, but still somehow cozy. There are 2 nice black and white murals on one wall, and another wall is covered with many different clocks. Overall, this place has a very nice feel to it. FOOD POISONING I asked my husband to pick some items up from the French Riviera Bakery and he went to Flo Paris by mistake. The person at the counter must have realized his error, because he ordered things that aren't on their menu--mushroom quiche, ham and cheese croissant, fruit salad, a regular eclair. The clerk said nothing, but substituted quiche lorraine, skewered fruit and a chocolate filled eclair that seemed not quite freshly backed. I ate the food anyway and had barely finished when I had to run to the bathroom to throw up. The last time I threw up was too many years ago to even remember. I assume all this was accidental, nothing intentional on the part of the Flo Paris clerk who may have guessed he meant to go to their competition.
