    Strawberry soufflé pancakes
    Natalie Z.

The food at this place is truly amazing! I would highly recommend the soufflé pancakes, which are light and fluffy but also very filling. My partner and I decided to go about an hour before closing but the staff were super friendly and helpful. The environment was bright and spacious which made it good for moving around. There are a few stairs to get into the building and the washroom is in the basement. Just a heads up for mobility device users. If you're looking for a cute, reasonably priced brunch spot near the downtown, Flippers is the spot for you.

Tried Flippers on Elm Street for a brunch and loved it. The pancakes were unbelievably soft--almost like cotton candy--and the omelette with toast was delicious. I couldn't get enough of the hashbrowns. The whole place had a nice summer vibe, and the service was amazing. Would definitely come again.

Revisited Flippers on a Saturday. However, this time I was disappointed to find that they no longer have Yelp waitlist available at least not on a Saturday when I was there where you can pre-add your name prior to arrival. You can only add your number to the waitlist once you arrive and then wait another 30 minutes or so before getting seated (at the time I was there). We got seated closer to 11am. We drove Downtown so definitely not great to have to have the clock run down on our parking spot to wait for brunch. So it's safe to say I don't think we'll be returning for brunch here on a Saturday to avoid the wait. Although that's when we usually brunch but oh well. Food is just as good as before. This time we tried the matcha souffle pancake came with matcha cream and red bean which was great. It was the perfect amount of sweetness without needing syrup. We ordered the matcha strawberry latte, it was alright and soda water, that came in a bottle fit for two. We tried their Flipper's burger this time and it was good. Overall a good meal!

    Eggs Benedict on pancakes yummy

My friend is a pancake lover so I thought she might like this place. To get the Japanese pancakes requires a long wait since they take a long time to cook. Fortunately they had these thinner ones that didn't take as long and I got the eggs Benedict. The good: pancakes were good though my friend wasn't thrilled so ‍ I thought they tasted fine. My eggs Benedict was missing hollandaise sauce but I am guessing they don't serve them that way. But the eggs were so small. They are definitely not large eggs. So even though I really enjoyed my eggs Benedict being served on pancakes yummy. I found the lack of sauce plus the eggs were so tiny compare to the rest of the meal. Service was fine. Not too quick but not ignored either. Ambience was alright crowded but not too crowded. Would I go back? I'm not sure. I might want to see if other places are offering similar

The coffee was strong, which I like. Of course we shared an order of the Japanese soufflé pancakes which were delicious. We both had eggs on the side which were cooked to order. Service was friendly and this comfy place is also clean.

I'm definitely a french toast person, but this place is known for their soufflé pancakes so I had to try some. The pancakes were not dry despite the thickness as it is more fluffy and jiggly. Although the pancakes were good it wasn't enough to convert me to be a pancake person. It was worth a try but, confirmed I'm a French Toast lover through and through.

Consistently good food and brunch vibes! And not overly hyped. I've loved this place since I first went in Japan. Friendly service! 10/10

A nice little breakfast place serving classic breakfast items as well as their signature souffle pancakes. The service was fast and efficient but this place does get very busy, particularly on the weekends. The food is great - seasoned well and all items are good. Their specialty souffle pancake was cooked well and very fluffy. Price is a bit on the high side but reasonable for something right in the downtown core.

I personally love the one with matcha the most ! Pillow-like pancake blended perfectly with matcha cream and red bean! The strawberry one is super Instagramable too! If you are looking for something more full/ Savory, chicken waffle is the pick! Staff is nice , we waited 10mins for the seat, worths it tho

Flipper's is a Japanese-style brunch spot specializing in soufflé pancakes. I came here on a summery September, late morning. On my visit they had their soft opening menu with a sign outside and a beautiful storefront on a picturesque elm street. There's a flight of stairs to enter the restaurant so there are some physical access concerns. During my visit, there were 4 tables full, but maybe 60% of the restaurant was still empty. They have a beautiful, naturally lit interior and the atmosphere feels warm and inviting. I ordered the Eggs Benedict $21 and asked for a side of Truffle fries, and they said they could add it on without paying the full price for the side item since they would serve a lesser portion, but there was some miscommunication and I was served regular fries with ketchup. The fries were okay, nothing special. The eggs Benedict was a huge portion and was very rich and filling. It was delicious and great that the bread was actually one of their pancakes but unsweetened. I ended up with leftovers and was able to take the rest to go! I also ordered an iced tea ~$4-5 which I thought would be nestea-style, but it turned out to be English breakfast tea served on ice, which was a nice, healthier choice, although I felt it was expensive for the portion. The staff was friendly, but nothing outstanding. They have bench-table style seating with one long bench on one side and normal chairs on the other side. This allows for flexibility when dining with larger and smaller groups. They also have normal table seating with chairs only near the windows. I wasn't able to look into their back area, but it seemed they had 2 different areas for seating. Overall, I'd return with friends!

While I'm down here visiting in Toronto, I decided to visit Flippers just for fun since the food looks so delicious and expectations were met! Food: [5/5] Blueberry cream cheese pancake: Very beautiful plate and theres a great cream cheese to pancake ratio so theres enough! The pancakes were thick and packed with so much flavor. There was also a maple syrup dipping sauce that was ok not really my cup of tea but everything else was so delicious and I'm appreciative that the maple syrup sauce isn't already drenched on the food. Very delicious highly recommend. Flippers (soufflé) pancake [5/5] These pancakes are so fluffy! It's almost like they're melting in your mouth! The presentation is also very beautiful alongside the taste. It tastes like a sweeter pancake really and the maple cream on this tastes so much better than the maple syrup that goes with the pancakes. The powdered sugar was also a great touch as well! Service: [5/5] Very little wait time to be sat (Dining for 1) and they were moderately busy as well. The wait time for the food wasn't bad it was around 10 minutes but it was well worth the wait since the food was absolutely delicious given they were moderately busy as well. Ambiance: [5/5] Honestly very cozy and warm restaurant great place to grab some brunch with friends or stop by on your lunch break. The LED sign on the wall was a nice touch. Very relaxing environment! Overall: Really affordable place with great breakfast and lunch options and nice + fast customer service. Close to dundas station so not far at all! Would highly recommend

    Chicken and waffles

We walked in and were greeted by the hostess, it was Friday just after noon, and surprisingly it wasn't busy. We were able to choose I seats, so we sat at the window and watched people pass by on Elm st. This place has a cozy feel to it, almost like waking up and having brunch at the cottage. I ordered the chicken and waffles. The waffles were fluffy, and soft, fresh, not very dense. The batter for chicken was quite seasoned, I think with a heavy hand of rosemary. I like things a little more plain, but it was nicely coated. The star of this dish has to be their unique maple butter, it was thick and this sauce was made with really butter and maple syrup. Wow, what a compliment to both items on my plate. The eggs Benedict were quite filling, we had the option of salad or fries for sides. The unique thing about this was the Japanese style English muffin. It nice because it was a cross between the pancake and English muffin, a little more dense, but it was a little seasoned like the chicken batter, which I was not so seasoned. We really enjoyed the food and the service here and are looking forward to doing it all again. Thank you to the staff for Ming our dining experience feel very welcoming.

Matcha & Fresh Fruit Soufflé Pancakes
    Cynthia W.

I was excited to try a new restaurant that offers souffle pancakes, and Flipper's did not disappoint! We came in around 1:30PM on Boxing Day - there were a few other tables, but overall it was not too busy. We were seated next to the window - decor is simple, but I loved the stained glass windows that were originally part of the building. We ordered the Fresh Fruit and Matcha pancakes. The menu clearly states that pancakes will take ~20 minutes to prep, so we got a french vanilla latte and side of fried chicken to come out first. I was surprised that the chicken was spicy, and didn't quite match with its sauce. Loved my drink though. Both pancake flavours were delicious, but if I had to choose, I'd go for the Fresh Fruit. I'm not usually a huge fan of berries, but the cream was sweeter than that of the Matcha, creating a nice balance with the pancakes. The texture of the souffle pancakes also hit the spot. Each pancake order is $19, compared to $13-$16 at Fuwa Fuwa. Flipper's does serve 3 pancakes instead of 2, so I think it is still fairly priced. I hope they bring out more flavours in the future. Servers were kind throughout our meal, and I enjoyed the acoustic playlist. I'd recommend Flipper's if you're in the area and craving a sweet brunch!

This spot is small but sooo cute. It has a cozy little diner vibe with cute photos and decor on the walls, and they did a really good job using the space they have. Everything felt clean, well maintained, and cozy. It definitely got busier as the morning went on though. Around an hour or hour and a half later when we were leaving, basically all the tables were filling up and there were people waiting for seats too. I can honestly see why because the food was really good. I do think it would be nice if they had a bit more seating because it seems like it gets packed really quickly and I can imagine they lose some customers because of the wait. The service was honestly amazing. Our server was sooo sweet and made really good conversation with us. He recommended dishes, helped us pick drinks, and even made the coffee exactly to my liking which I appreciated. You could tell he genuinely enjoyed his job and was really kind the whole time. I usually don't go for Vietnamese coffee, but the server recommended it and I actually loved it. It was creamy, slightly sweet, and really different from regular coffee in a good way. Definitely recommend trying it if you want something different. For food, we got the breakfast sandwiches which came with fries, and we upgraded them to truffle fries which were delicious. We also got a side salad which was really fresh and yummy too. The sandwich itself was sooo good. The bun tasted buttery and fresh, everything was well put together, and it honestly felt like a really balanced meal. It was pretty filling too, I couldn't even finish all of mine. Overall, loved this spot and I'd definitely go back again. Such good vibes, really kind service, and amazing breakfast.

The place was more than worth the wait, as it turns out. And it's still doing extremely well, given how busy it was and how long we had to wait for a table (almost a full half hour!) We knew going in that we had to try a few of the joint's most famous dishes, the Cinnamon Bun Pancakes, the Breakwich, and Emma's BLT. It was clearly way, way too much food but everything was so good that I had zero regrets. In particular, those pancakes are as flavorful and scrumptious as I would've hoped. The two savory sandwiches fared just as well, and it was clear that they had been assembled with a tremendous amount of care. The busy atmosphere was fun, and our server was friendly and helpful. The biscuits were just average for my taste, but the home fries were excellent. The eggs Benedict could have used a bit more hollandaise--something I'm sure they would have happily provided if I'd asked, but I didn't. The highlight of the breakfast was the special menu collaboration with Sanagan Meat Locker. The savory cornbread pancakes were outstanding--served hot with crispy edges, layered with pimento cheese, and topped with butter and honey. Paired with the blueberry sausage from Sanagan, it was an unforgettable combination. I really loved this collaboration with Emma--it was creative, comforting, and absolutely delicious.
