This requires a lot of work, and this is ot a non-profit shop. I brought in several old Mcintosh vintage pieces. They needed a lot of work. One ended up costing a lot more to repair than what was estimated. They stuck to the estimate and asked if I would not mind at least paying for the additional parts needed. They basically lost money restoring an MP1-4 (look it up it is rare). they did it as a labor of love. They told me few were made and only a couple had ever come through the shop. They restored a pre-amp, tuner and power amp as well as the MP1. John explained what could and should not be done to bring these back to pristine condition. This is an honest good shop with techs who love working on vintage gear. I have to check if they are back up and running after the fire. I hope so!

Shelter In Place review…read more Even before Shelter In Place began in the bay area, Apple stores shut down, and my appointment to repair my cracked screen was cancelled. My phone was still functioning, and I am in support of safety measures, so I didn't fret too much. As my cracks expanded, I did wonder when phone repair would become an essential service. If someone's phone is not functional and they are an isolated person, it would become a safety issue. A few weeks later, on a whim, I tried again with Apple to make an appointment. We pay the monthly insurance, so the repair would be covered. Apple offered me an appointment with Mobile Kangaroo, and I jumped at it. The service technician was smart, helpful, communicative, and practicing excellent safety precautions. My Apple insurance was honored, and everything was handled with maximum efficiency. If you want to save some money on test equipment repairs, look no further then Equiptek Labs…read more At work, one our signal generators stopped functioning, and I sent it out to our usual calibration lab for a repair quote. They wanted over $9000 to fix it. That was way too expensive, as we could just about buy a refurbished or used one for that price. I mentioned this to a coworker, and he told me that he sends most of his broken equipment over to Felix at Equiptek Labs due to their lower repair charge. I contacted Felix, and sent the signal generator over for a repair quote. His price was $1700, a savings of more than $7300! One reason Equiptek Labs can charge less is that they troubleshoot down to the component level, rather than swapping out modules, which is way more expensive. The problem turned out to be a shorted $3.50 capacitor. The corrupted firmware was also restored. In addition to repairs, they also sell new and refurbished electronic test equipment, and are now located in Menlo Park.
