This review is about my partner's experience with Ipek. She doesn't have Yelp so I am posting on her behalf: I went to Fleur Noire on 5/9/23 and got tattooed by Ipek. The tattoo initially looked great but upon healing, we noticed some spotty and faded areas. Ipek requested healed photos, which I sent on 5/30, politely noting there were faded areas in the tattoo and asked if it could be touched up. Ipek never responded to this message. A followup email was sent 6/8, to no response. On 6/9, I DMed Ipek on Instagram asking if she saw the email which prompted her to rudely respond via email. After an uncomfortable interaction, Ipek proceeded on blocking me on Instagram. This is terrible customer service and her attitude made me extremely uncomfortable. And while she offered touching it up in the end, I declined the offer because she made the interaction uncomfortable. Support Fleur Noire but if you go to Ipek, pray you don't need a touch up because it will not be a pleasant experience. read more

This is a review of Fleur Noire's Grand Street location and of their guest artist, Whewyang. The parlor itself is quite clean and spacious. Due to COVID, you're not allowed to bring someone with you, but I didn't mind- I wasn't keen on having others see me in pain anyways LOL. Being that it was my first tattoo, I was both nervous and excited. For years, I had wanted a tattoo, but my preferred style is vibrant colors "painted" with a delicate hand and most of the artists I had followed were based in Seoul. I came across Whewyang's art on IG, and was excited to see that she was touring for a few weeks in NY as a guest artist. We communicated via email and she sounded super sweet, encouraging, and professional. Additionally, her pricing for the size was quite reasonable. When I arrived for my appointment, Whewyang really made me feel comfortable throughout our session. While I anticipated some level of pain, I was surprised by how therapeutic the experience was- so much so that I almost fell asleep. The tattoo itself turned out so much better than I could have imagined! Thank you Whewyang for making my first tattoo experience so pleasant and memorable. I couldn't be happier! read more

I've gotten two tattoos at Fleur Noire, one with Laura two years ago at the private studio and one with Nadia recently at the Grand Street location. Both are so talented! I had found Laura while searching Instagram for knitting-related ink and was really drawn her aesthetic, and learned about Nadia through the Fleur Noire feed and was similarly smitten. I had gotten my first tattoo rather impulsively as a teen, a flash piece in a place that's fairly hidden, and I was excited to find artists that both spoke to me and compelled me to get ink that was displayed more prominently. Laura showed me a sketch at the beginning of my appointment of the custom knitting-inspired design I had described. It only needed a small tweak before being inked. Nadia sent me her artwork a couple of days before. I asked for a different butterfly shape and she sent the new version quickly. The overall environment is really chill and they play great music. So I will say that from the start when I was emailing them, I thought they were so friendly! The place itself is very small but it's beautiful. Macho did my tattoo and he was so sweet and patient. He did such an amazing job. My only complaint about this place is that the man at the desk with an accent, where you go to pay and who you talk to about your appointment is a complete jerk. I got work done by Jack and Nadia and both times have been super professional and smooth. (This will be a long review) Both locations are really clean, modern, and organized. With my first time, I emailed the studio with my idea and was recommended Jack. We had a back and forth via email, I put down the $100 deposit. When I arrived he showed me the design and I asked for a small change which he quickly took care of. He was very focused and professional and I was very pleased with the result! I get compliments on it all the time. I got my second floral piece from Nadia. I was a fan of her work from Instagram. She posted a story stating she had an availability. I emailed her and she gave me a price estimate and answered all my questions and concerns. She also sent the design within the next day and it was exactly what I wanted. Same policy with deposit etc. Because I got this done recently, all the necessary precautions were taken. I had my temperature taken, was asked about symptoms, had to sanitize my hands, and had to wear a mask at all times. Nadia is such a sweetheart and so talented. I hate leaving bad reviews but I was less than impressed with this place. My artist showed up 30 minutes after my appointment time, and then took 45 minutes to "set up" while chit chatting with his coworkers before calling me down to start. For a tattoo that took less than 10 minutes, I was there for over an hour and a half mostly just waiting around. He wasn't prepared or friendly and wasted my time. For the price you're paying you'd expect good service but it was sub par. And when I went up to pay, the receptionist was sitting outside chatting, saw me standing there, and continued chatting for another 5 minutes before I sent someone out to get her. I was in Brooklyn for about a week and decided last minute that I wanted a tattoo. I was looking on Instagram and stumbled upon Terry Downs' (@Terry_Downs) work, and I knew that I wanted to get tattooed by her before I left back for home. Between finalizing the drawing and getting my tattoo done, the appointment took about 4 hours. I don't want to tell all of Yelp exactly how much I paid, but know that at Fleur Noire you're going to be paying a premium price for premium work--and it's worth it. If you're interested in fine line work with some "geometric shit," as Emrah put it, then I recommend Fleur Noire and Emrah. I had an amazing experience with Nini - she's warm, professional, and extremely talented. I came in with a vague idea about paper planes, and she had the brilliant idea to take photographs of me folding a paper plane, and transformed it into art. She then took it one step further to propose more tattoos on my left arm - showing that the plane is flying from one arm to the other. So creative! The price was reasonable for almost a 6-hour session - which included consultation, design, and the tattoo itself. And at the end, we folded paper airplanes together :) The tattoo has healed over the past month and the lines are still precise and delicate. Got a wonderful new piece from Galen Bryce! Even without all the positive comments from friends, family, and strangers on the street, I absolutely adore it. Galen is incredibly talented. Fleur Noire was amazing! Great customer service through emails and very understanding of my busy schedule and money status being a student. Consultation was very quick and easy. I was assigned to Holger and he had me provide some reference pictures and gave really helpful suggestions as a tattoo artist on what would work on skin. On the day of the appointment, Holger showed us the design and changed what we requested immediately and in front of us. He helped me decide the best placement and size as well. He was very patient and gentle, this being both my mom and my first tattoo. The design was better than I could ever had expected. My mom (with whom I got this as a surprise birthday gift) was ecstatic with the end product. I honestly couldn't be happier with my experience with Fleur Noire. This was only my second tattoo, so I don't have a ton of experience and don't really have an established relationship with a "go-to" artist. So naturally I did tons of research from the moment I decided what kind of piece I wanted to the actual day of the tattoo session. Deciding on where to get your tattoo can be a challenge. You need to find the right combination of a shop with a good reputation, good reviews, clean, etc. along with finding an artist with whom you mesh and whose style fits the vision of your tattoo. Sometimes you find an artist you love but you don't love the shop. Or maybe a shop seems great but you can't find a resident or visiting artist whose style appeals to you. I experienced all of this. I'm pretty sure that I initially found Fleur Noire as a top rated shop in a Google search, and while their artists all seemed to do amazing work, I didn't see anyone that had a portfolio that included a piece similar to what I wanted. But then I discovered an artist on IG (Monica) whose style seemed like a great fit. I wanted to get an octopus tattoo and from the high quality and detailed snakes that I saw Monica had done, I thought she might be exactly the artist to work with on this piece. As luck would have it, she had just recently joined the Fleur Noire team, and the shop was back on my radar. That was about 3-4 months ago. After coordinating a consultation with Monica, we agreed to do the tattoo in two sessions (first in late October, second in early December). My experience working with Monica was nothing short of amazing. To the degree that getting a tattoo can be enjoyed, I absolutely loved getting this tattoo done. Yes, it's painful getting a tattoo. But it's important to note that (in my opinion) a good artist is not just strong technically, but also interpersonally, understanding the client's needs and being mindful of pain thresholds and offering breaks when appropriate. For the most part, we took few breaks and were on the same page throughout the process (with minor debates and overall consensus on final decisions). I never felt pressured and always felt like I had the final say. Monica is simply really great working with the client (in my experience). And ultimately, she's the expert. I trusted her. And I am so happy with the result. The tattoo is still healing (photos to come), but there were two moments when I was in awe. First, when we were half way through our second session (which was focused on shading the octopus), at the moment when we took a quick break and I got to see the tattoo with some shading. Holy crap, it looked so good. So detailed. I was amazed. And the second time was when I took the Saniderm wrap off (just a couple days ago), applied some lotion, and saw the freshly tattooed skin, now without the Saniderm. I had this moment of pure joy. I was just so happy. I regret nothing about the process. I'm glad I went to Fleur Noire and even happier I got to work with Monica. She's a fantastic artist and a kind person. I read just about every shop review before committing to Fleur Noire and I was quite mindful of the handful of negative reviews. What others (the minority of customers, it seems) experienced with late artists and inattentive staff members was not my experience at all. Everyone was down to earth. The other artists seemed serious, but simply because they were focused on their work. If you're a client, wouldn't you want your artist fully focused? I also appreciated that on a couple occasions other artists stopped by to see what Monica was working on and complimented her work. I liked that collaborative vibe. Overall the place has good energy. Chill music. Clever, playful lighting. All those things might seem superficial, but they matter when you're trying to foster an environment where creativity can flourish. And when you're spending a lot of money on a lifelong investment that you need to be happy with, the environment can either make it a special experience or a forgetful one. Thankfully for me, it was the former. Sorry this is such a long review, but clearly I think the details matter. These are the sorts of things I found important when selecting an artist and shop, so I hope my recounting is helpful to others. read more

Do not get tattooed here, or support this business which takes advantage of its customers. Tattooed by Nini. Tattoo itself was great, but I'm disappointed in her lack of transparency regarding cost. Ultimately my mistake for assuming she would conform to industry norms, but this was flat-out highway robbery at $700/hr. Technically, she charged $1400 for 1.5 hours of tattooing two small (approximately 4") black and grey pieces. While shop policy may be to charge by the piece instead of by the hour, the tattoos Nini did were unequivocally not detailed, intricate or in a difficult place on the body to warrant their extreme cost. I've been tattooed over 30 hours in multiple major cities around the world. I've had the pleasure of being tattooed by famous artists, those that will never become "pro," and everything in between. I've also been tattooed in New York multiple times at reasonable cost, so I don't buy the "NYC price" argument. This situation was admittedly my fault for not explicitly discussing cost prior to being tattooed. However, it still stands that $1400 for barely two hours of needle work is shocking and outrageous. Nini should be ashamed. Unfortunately, I highly recommend anyone seeking a tattoo stay away from Fleur Noire. There are plenty of other equally talented artists in the city that do the same or better work, at industry standard prices. Incredibly disappointed in any tattoo artist, or shop, that takes advantage of customers like Nini and Fleur Noire. *Not a false review. I had the day off and spontaneously hit him up on a Friday for a last-minute appointment and he was able to fit me in during his last slot. Since my first tattoo here I have been in for a second tattoo (by Mira) and two touch ups (one for each tattoo). The touch ups were necessary after I developed a rash on my arm (unrelated to that tattoos themselves). I wish I could give this place more than five stars! They have since updated their quote policy so it's much more clear. I knew what my piece would cost before going in and my artist clarified the day of. Mira did an absolutely beautiful job on my tattoo. She updated her sketches to match my input and she was gentle and charming throughout the whole process. I love this tattoo studio and would recommend it highly to all my friends! The booking process involves either e-mailing the artist directly or submitting a proposal through their site, which then gets forwarded to the artist who will then reply with a price quote and appointment date. You need a ~$100 deposit to confirm the appointment. I chose Brian (@briansold) as my artist, and was blown away by his work. I found him on Instagram and wanted a piece in his distinct style of bold lines and dot work. He is also an incredibly friendly person who is clearly passionate about his craft. Even though the tattoo took longer than the appointment was set for, I never got the sense that he was rushing through his work. I was a little nervous about not being able to see the piece before the appointment date, but I'm glad I put my trust in his artistic vision. We had our session in the private studio which is very clean and well-decorated with plants and eclectic artwork. You should definitely check out the other artists who work at Fleur Noire, as they are all distinct and very talented in their own ways. Pick the one who has the asthetic you want for your piece and go for it! --Rating Rubric-- 5* - As good as it gets; goes above and beyond. I would come here again and again! 4* - Worth checking out; a good value. No major complaints or only minor flaws that set this place back. Tried to book two tattoos here. Waited over a month for some contact with the artist. Eventually told the office not to bother (after multiple follow-ups), because I was able to get a deposit down somewhere else (in under a week). Then the artist sent me an email saying they were glad they didn't have to work with someone like me, and that they were only planning on tattooing me as a favor. I found that rude, and I don't see how my paying the artist's normal rate for a tattoo can be categorized as a "favor." That's just business. She says management lost my email which is why the response took so long, and maybe that's true. But whoever's fault it was, the experience was disappointing and I wouldn't get a tattoo here. The tattoos I was booking would have been easily over $2000 worth of work, and I'm not going to pay that to a business that thinks it's appropriate to lash out against potential clients or who think waiting a month to have any contact with the artist is reasonable. There are lots of other parlors in the area that are happy to treat their clients kindly, and where communication between the office and the artist is professional and quick. read more

I couldn't have asked for better than Sasha Woland. Not only was he attentive to what I wanted but he also brought things I would not have thought of. He was completely down to earth, and I was surprised how little the three hour session had hurt. Sasha's instincts, skill and improvisation on his line are really a very rare thing. I was brand new to getting tattoos when I first went to Fleur Noire Tattoo Parlor in January of 2017, and I honestly couldn't have picked a better shop to dive in. Everyone there is as welcoming as they are talented, and no matter what style you're looking to get, they have the right artist for you. The shop interior is modern, cool, and inviting, and collectively, the team at Fleur Noire will often do flash days to support important causes--they did a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood that was amazing to be a part of! I've personally got ink from Laura, who's so cool and fun and inspiring, and whose geometric work is exquisite; Baud, whose etching style and attention to detail is unbelievable; and Evgeny, who offered some too-fantastic-to-pass-up flash for the aforementioned fundraiser. (They also have tons of incredible guest artists every month from all around the world. Recently got a piece done by Eugene here and let me say- it's beautiful! Not only did he do a great job with my tattoo (it's a fine line piece of an Apollo command module- google it if you're not sure what that is) but from start to finish he and Fleur Noire did a great job. We got in contact a few months ago and he had me stop in to do a consultation. After talking for a few minutes he showed me some ideas and we went with something I loved. From there I set up a date for the actual tattoo and paid a deposit. A few weeks later we did the tattoo, and he even offered to do some touch ups a couple of weeks after I had healed. Awesome work from him top to bottom, and people always are impressed when they see the detail that went into my piece. The shop itself is very pretty. Great design, good location, and you can tell there's a unifying theme among the artists. They don't all do the same work, but it's work that all lives within the same universe of black and fine line. Really great talent in there. The shop is also very clean, organized, and seems to only use the best equipment. Really love that in a shop because it shows they care. I've seen a few people on here complain about price- but a good tattoo isn't cheap and a cheap tattoo is rarely good. There are places that charge less, but the work isn't as good. Conversely, there are places that charge way more for similar styles (especially in New York) offered here, but they are just scamming people. What you get here is a great tattoo at a fair price. People need to understand that tattoo artists are just that: artists. Once you conceptualize a tattoo as a piece of commissioned art (which is exactly what it is) what they decide on in the price isn't just a time factor. We're talking about their skill, how taxing the tattoo is on them physically (remember, artists needs to get in some weird positions and have some extreme focus for some pieces), and how much time they need to spend working on the design when you're not there. If you want a cheap crappy tattoo that you haven't really thought about, don't go here. If you want a great piece you really love, that was crafted with care, and that you want to last forever, this is your spot. It blows my mind that people will wait months and pay $1000 for a new phone they won't have in a few years time, but get upset when a tattoo (a piece of commissioned art) takes some time to schedule and costs several hundred dollars. This place is the best. I got microblading from Zeta and a tattoo from Laura and both exceeded my expectations. Whatever you're thinking about getting here just do it. Tattoo from Laura: Not only is Laura an amazing artist she is also extremely kind and patient. After she showed me her initial sketch (which was beautiful but not exactly what I wanted) I requested changes. I could not believe how receptive and open she was. There is no amount of money that could pay for the fact that she truly cared about my vision for my tattoo and saw the project as an interesting challenge and not an inconvenience. The result is so beautiful, I can't stop looking at it. Her assistant Morgan is also super helpful and responded to a million questions and inspiration images with kindness. Laura's books are closed but just email in case. It's worth the wait! Microblading from Zeta: My brows are already quite full but had been overly waxed at the wings and lacked shape. Zeta mixed the perfect color for me and the result looks just like my natural eyebrows but better. The first week looks very intense but don't worry, they will end up looking amazing! read more

STAY AWAY FROM BURAK!!! He's an insensitive egoist who does not respect the clients' opinion and tattoos per his own whims. I had a very specific design that I wanted. I met with Burak and showed him the reference artworks. He nodded to everything I said giving me the confidence that he was listening and would make the tattoo I was describing. On the tattoo day I walked in and saw that the stencil he had made was not the design that he showed me on his iPad, and also had not made any of the changes that I had requested in my previous consultation. I reiterated my requests and he said he'd make the final watercoloring effect on my skin directly. He also said that I didn't know what would ultimately look good on the skin, and that I must trust him. Trusting him (biggest.mistake.ever), I got on the tattoo chair and he began working, completely disregarding the conversation we had just had on changes. He went on to cross hatch the lens when I had specifically said I hate cross hatching. I asked for thicker lines on the frame and he outright said 'no'. I asked for coloring outside the box and he only colored inside. He was purposely doing the exact opposite of what I was asking. At this point I was a prisoner on his tattoo-chair and bound to whatever he was doing to my skin with no way to protest but keep politely asking him to do what I want. And he kept disregarding my requests and doing the EXACT OPPOSITE stating he knew better being the 'artist'. Apparently he had a vision of the tattoo in his mind and he was annoyed that I wanted it my way and not his. THE AUDACITY. Now I'm stuck with a tattoo on my skin that I hate. All the time, he was looking at his watch, trying to wrap up for the day. My advice for Burak is - if you are working just to earn a buck and clock-out when done, please go ahead and be a taxi driver. You don't have passion and empathy for your clients, and don't deserve to be called a tattoo artist. AND, after this terrible ordeal he charged me $100 more than what he had initially quoted!! Thank you Burak, for ruining my tattoo just to appease your inflated ego. You got the tattoo YOU wanted on MY skin, and now I have to look at it every day for the rest of my life and remember that pathetic and disgusting experience with you. read more

I got a tattoo from Matt Lamourt (@bedtime_spirits on instagram), both the experience and the tattoo was better than I could have imagined. He was kind and pleasant to be around, and we had easy conversation that didn't feel forced at all. We spoke for a while about different placements, and I really felt like when I made the final decision on location it was well thought-out between the both of us, and the best decision I could have made. He let me look through his drawing notebooks while I waited for him to set up, which felt like an honor, because I'd been following him on instagram for so long and finally got to see his work in person. This place is clean and comfortable. But I think the price is random and "flexible" in a lucrative way. I got a small circle and a tiny lightning bolt which cost me $200. It might be a normal thing in the artistic tattoo world. Cool people may be able to explain their price in many ways. I was just shocked by the price. And for some reason, my friend got a lotion as a gift while I did not. A lotion is definitely affordable for me. But according to this, I think the shop might not run based on a clear business protocol. The price and whether a gift is given will be influenced by who the client is, including any biological, behavioral and cultural traits that could define a person. This could just be my speculation. But I want to post it here for your reference. In a word, I would highly suggest that you should get a exact quote before you start your tattoo here.
