When I desperately tried to stop him from discharging me while unsafe, I was booted out of the building by Hospital Security for being anxious! You'd be anxious too if sent home to starve! For over 40 days I reported 20 TIMES that I was starving and begged to be admitted for a feeding tube and fluids, which HE IGNORED! This idiot sat there and forced me to nearly STARVE TO DEATH! This is not a free service, we pay high dollars for their service so this office staff and its management needs to treat the patients with dignity and good customer service. The office was great to work with on scheduling appointments, the PA Jessica was fabulous, and the surgery was very straightforward. My symptoms had been blamed on pulled muscle and other things for years, so by the time I got the right diagnosis, my hip was not in great shape. He explained my options thoroughly, risks/benefits of surgery, etc, and I never felt rushed. On followbut, I had biceps tendonitis, and he fit me in for a steroid injection, no problem. Both surgeries went well. My left did better, but it was done earlier, and honestly, I followed instructions better. I was able to run and do the things I wanted again. I was always able to get an appointment with him in a timely fashion. Sometimes, there may be a wait, but I would rather have a doctor who doesn't rush through your appointment than one on time.

I tried multiple cycles…read moreof physical therapy and really, really worked hard to avoid surgery because I was frankly afraid of the recovery. I saw three separate hip surgeons, and came to Ochiai after numerous recommendations from others. I've talked to no fewer than 20 people that have had hip arthroscopy with various surgeons. I've spoken with people that have had horrific experiences with recovery and results from the same procedure that I have. I have also talked to some who urged me to have the procedure because it improved their quality of life dramatically. Here is what I will tell you: your surgeon's experience and skill matter. Choose a surgeon that specializes in the procedure you need and commit to the physical therapy. I am absolutely convinced that Ochiai has a great deal to do with what I am going to characterize as a relatively easy recovery. I would recommend him without reservation for hip arthroscopy. I'm now three weeks after surgery and here is what I will tell you: -The procedure was far easier than I anticipated in many ways, and more difficult in others. The upshot is surgery was worth it and I wish I hadn't waited. I'm frankly stunned at how reasonable my recovery was. - I was not really in pain following surgery, just discomfort for a few days. I was off narcotics within 24 hours after surgery. I believe I took two narcotic pain pills after leaving the surgical center. - The worst things to anticipate about this surgery are 1) needing to have someone to help you out for the 48 hours or so afterward, 2) understanding that you will have to commit to wearing a brace for about 6 weeks afterward and to be on crutches for approximately 1-4 weeks after, and 3) understanding PT is a commitment for months after. - I live in a house with lots and lots of stairs. They were no problem. If you have a symptomatic torn labrum or pinching from FAI then I urge you to see Ochiai.

Dr. Bobrow was the fourth "top" DC total-knee-replacement surgeons I interviewed in January of this…read moreyear. He was the only of the four that took seriously my fears based on my significant pre-existent condition (beside my deeply arthritic right knee: significant atrophy of all my right leg muscles stemming complications from the removal from the back of my right thigh of a 10 pound, benign tumor when I was 13. Only Dr. Bobrow of the four candidate surgeons had me disrobe to my briefs, and actually examined my entire right leg, including touching it (!). He then told me in detail how my TKR would be somewhat more complicated than usual, and ordered a few tests (e.g., leg/blood circulation) to ensure that my leg was "up to" the surgery. Dr. Bobrow and his excellent team did a great job. My real work began the day after surgery, when the meds wore off, and I was immediately thrust into intense (and initially (three weeks) quite painful) PT, conducted by the experts at ED&A Therapy, located conveniently next door to Dr. B' offices at Summit Orthopedics. By week 4, I was walking without assistance -- but the real benefit was that I awoke each morning to the repeated good news of there being absolutely no pain in my right knee. I'm now 3 months plus, I am walking strong and even, and my atrophied right leg muscles have returned, though I still have a long ways to go! I feel every day something I haven't felt in many years: strong and completely symmetrical. I won't dwell on the pain, frustrations, and hard emotions I experienced in the early weeks -- for a surgery as serious as this, these really have to be expected. The team ensures you have access throughout your recovery to the medication needed to manage your physical pain. Dr. B's office staff is competent, cordial and helpful -- but one must expect that he/she will experience some hiccups with processing and paperwork, and some extended waiting periods beyond the promised appointment time. But this is truly minor stuff. Though he has been doing TKRs and other procedures for some time, Dr. Bobrow comes across as excited with and enthused about his work. Being able to vanquish the constant, often searing pain that comes with an arthritic knee -- now, that's a great talent! I give Dr. Bobrow and his team my highest recommendation for TKR.

Dr. Graeter seemed incredibly uninterested in what I had to say- taking very cursory notes, not really seeming to listen, and failing to ask questions. It would make sense that this lack of attention would lead to an incorrect diagnosis (IT Band). When I pointed out that his diagnosis did not correspond with my area of pain, he blustered about a bit, took another quick look at my knee, and gave me a few sheets of paper with hamstring and IT band stretches on them. I'm happy to do this, but it would have been helpful if he had given some details such as how often to do the stretches, for how long, how this corresponds with my injury cause and recuperation, when is it ok to start running, etc. Instead, it seemed as though his highest priority was getting out of the room and on to the next patient. This visit was a monumental waste of my time- not only was he late in seeing me, but I feel that my knee pain has not been addressed and I will have to search for another doctor to do what Dr. Graeter should have done today.

I had an appointment with Dr. John Ferrell on September 12, 2024, at the ROSM Washington, DC office…read morebut left before seeing him because I was not seen in a timely manner and left after an inappropriate time to wait. This is the second time I have experienced this problem with ROSM including previously in July with another doctor in the practice. Both times I was taken to an examining room in a timely manner and was left to wait in the room. After over 30 minutes, I left the room and spoke to one of the staff to ask if there was a problem. Both times I was told that the doctor was with another patient and would be in to see me in a while. My first complaint, therefore, is that it is not the patient's responsibility to determine why there is a delay. The doctor should instruct his/her staff to let the patient know that there is a delay and what are the patient's alternatives. Both times the staff person apologized for which I appreciate their apologies. An apology by a staff person, however, does not indicate that there will be any change in how waiting patients are informed of delays. On September 12, 2024, the staff person told me that the doctor was in a room with no clock, which is not an excuse but demonstrates poor planning by the doctor. Therefore, my second complaint is that the ROSM Washington, DC office is poorly managed and fails to properly plan appointment times for patients. I will not be returning to this practice for any reason.
