I was a skeptic as i began my recovery with them after being in a boot and unable to walk on it for two months. Walked in for my first apt in a boot nearly 3 months ago and now i'm out of the boot and getting very close to full mobility in my ankle, ALL BECAUSE of THEM!!! Their knowledge, support, encouragement and true commitment to help me, allowed me to heal better, faster and more completely than would have EVER happened without them. I have heard awful stories about physical therapists that friends have gone to so i didn't have much faith in the process, but i got REALLY lucky when i picked this practice. Rob is my Doctor there, and he, along with Melissa and Kellie, as therapists, have worked together to solve my recovery issues. It is ALL because of them that i will have a full and complete recovery with full mobility. As a 59 year old that has been very active my entire life, a full recovery was critical to me and my quality of life. I trusted them enough to do whatever it took to heal my injury and was consistent in the home assignments I was given. If anyone reading this has a current or old injury and you want to fully recover, THIS is the place to do it. Its a large, well lit, fully equipped facility. Ijust cannot thank and praise them enough!!!

As a travel athlete, the goal of rehab is not only healing but returning to peak performance. The first PT who assessed my kid was not friendly - I would probably say she was a bit condescending, and made us feel bad for allowing knee bending exercises, something both the surgeon and the previous PT had encouraged. She instructed us to stop all bending exercises, including heel slides, until further notice. When she sarcastically asked my kid to lift a straight leg and immediately pointed out the inability to do so, my kid explained that the foot was stuck on the table base. No chance to let her try again, PT moved on to whatever was next on her list of things to do. Despite nothing appearing abnormal in recovery, the PT dismissed our explanations and remained condescending throughout. I simply said we'd email the doctor's protocol to her rather than argue. We later learned from the second PT - not from scheduling, check-in, or even the first PT herself - that the initial PT was leaving in a couple of weeks as she was a traveling PT, and we'd be reassigned to someone else. Given that ACL rehab typically lasts 7-12 months (a timeframe she herself confirmed), it was disappointing that this wasn't disclosed upfront. It reflected a lack of continuity and care for the patient experience. The second PT was much kinder and even seemed surprised by the "no bending" instruction. He gave my kid very basic quad engagement exercises on the table with light stretching. However, he was clearly managing multiple patients at once, leaving my kid waiting between exercises. The appointment also ran to about 80 minutes, despite being told it would last an hour, and only ended because I mentioned we had to get to school. Afterward, I contacted the doctor, who advised us to stop going there immediately since not bending the knee could harm recovery. I would not recommend this place, especially for young athletes.

We came in for a broken ankle, but it was treated as if it were not a serious issue. An MRI was necessary for the next step in treatment, yet the request was not submitted to the insurance in a timely manner. We had to repeatedly follow up and push the office just to get the request sent. In the meantime, we were left waiting in pain without proper support or protection while waiting for the MRI to be scheduled and completed. Even after the MRI was completed and the report was sent to the doctor's office the next day, no one contacted us to schedule a follow-up appointment or begin treatment. Isn't the office supposed to monitor this and follow up with patients to move treatment forward? Overall, this was a very frustrating and upsetting experience.

After a simple consultation and X-ray, I was diagnosed with the need for an ankle brace and physical therapy. Due to my busy schedule, I purchased the ankle brace first and wore it for a few days, but my ankle hurt even more than before, and I developed a large blister near my inner ankle bone. After wearing it twice, I had to stop using it. When I called the office to request a return, I was told that returns were not possible for used products. I accepted this and didn't argue further. However, I felt extremely unfair when I received the bill. An ankle brace that can be bought on Amazon for $33 was billed at $300, and despite paying an $80 copay at the office visit, I still had to cover an additional $110. In total, I ended up paying $190 plus the insurance-covered amount. To sum up, I paid $680 in total and ended up with more ankle pain. No matter how capitalistic the society is, a doctor's primary job is to treat patients, not to be a merchant.

The front desk put me on hold, then informed me I would need to reschedule. Mind you, neither of my previous two sessions started on time--but I guess it's ok for the therapist to be late. I also was never notified of this strict policy--I double checked my appointment confirmations and registration paperwork. My therapist knows I have a newborn and a broken foot, and they showed me zero compassion. I explained that I could not arrange childcare again the very next day (which is when they wanted to reschedule) to which staff replied "oh." I called back to cancel all my appointments, and they didn't even care to ask why. Of note, if you're considering pelvic floor therapy, the therapist will perform your internal exam in an open area with just a curtain drawn around the table with men exercising around you. I can do kegals at home.

She is methodically scientific - bordering forensic -- in her attention to detail. She's passionate and fluent in her life's work in orthopedic medicine. She also has a bubbly bedside manner that helped me feel comfortable and calm immediately. Her thorough approach means she will err on the side of caution when prescribing exercises and routines. This can seem slow at times, but she balances that deep long-term care approach with practices like dry needle therapy and deep tissue massage which will immediately alleviate pain and muscle tightness in a short/medium term capacity. Frankly, I was heartbroken when recently my long-term physical therapist (Dr. Virginia Dula of Move Better LLC), also a military wife and mom, packed up and left for a deployment last month. Those of us on the long-term injury management track know just how difficult it can be to find a physical therapist who's got it all... But after meeting Dr. A I can't help but feel like I've got a guardian angel out there after all. Even with Dr. Dula's incredible help, I had begun to accept that the more stubborn parts of my injury would cause my body to be permanently limited because they never healed or fully functioned again no matter how long we treated them. After all, I've been regularly doing PT for 5 years now. In just 4 sessions, Dr. A was able to get into those muscles in my spine and make them move and feel when I've had no feeling and movement there for years. For this reason I highly respect her methodical and slow approach because it's clear to me that we are going to make even more permanent progress than I have ever had before.

Dr. Chavone and Dr. Gwen are a great team and run the best PT place in NOVA. Highly trained, experienced, knowledgeable and friendly therapists. I've been seeing them post achilles surgery for about 3 weeks. In addition to needing PT to regain full use of my ankle and foot, 8 weeks in a boot left me with an injured kneed from walking funny and significant muscle atrophy. Not only have I been making great progress, but I actually feel myself getting stronger. Both Dr's are great at giving encouragement, motivation and a little helpful push when you need it. They also really listen to their patients and their patients bodies. Finally, Dr. Chavone and Dr. Gwen are always happy to answer any questions in detail- in layman's terms all the way up to an in depth medical discussion. Everything is SUPER CONVENIENT: plenty of parking, unlike trying to get in/out of fair oaks hospital complex; plenty of hours available; and an elevator in back that takes you right to the office. Their office itself is very clean, has everything needed to provide excellent care and very bright, open and welcoming. It looks like a small, very modern gym with up-to-date brand new equipment. My initial therapy is about halfway finished, but I hoping I can continue to do more balance and strength workouts. I really like this crew. OK, in one of their rooms is what looks like some kind of suspension training system. When I asked, they said it was the REDCORD NEURAC system. If you don't play for the Washington Capitol Hockey team, you can't find this anywhere within 50 miles of the DC/NOVA area. it is one of the most innovative and effective (peer reviewed) systems for treating challenging muscle/skeletal pain. I really wanna try it for or Post Laminectomy Syndrome (back pain/leg sciatica). If I do, i'll post a follow-up review. http://www.redcordamerica.com/neuromuscular-activation/neurac-system.php One important thing that I didn't know until Dr. Johnson told me this the other day. Think you can benefit from PT? Just self-refer and call them. The Doctors are able to do an independent assessment, and prescribe up to 30 days of initial therapy as well as recommend you to a local MD who can prescribe further therapy. I cannot recommend more highly!
