I never write reviews, and it takes an awful lot for me to write a negative one. We checked into the pro shop 5 minutes before our tee time. Construction in Boulder was insane, our bad, but we were clearly hurrying. Older guy in the pro shop immediately began berating us for being late, repeatedly telling us to "get moving" even though we were hustling. All that said, we still teed off right on time. We played at the pace of the group in front of us, had to wait a little for them at each box, not a big deal to us at all. As we walked away from teeing off on the 10th after the turn with a little room between us and the group in front that we would easily catch up to, he chased after us yelling "pace of play!". I played this course many years ago and this will be the last time. Much better courses in the area without the condescending attitude. Brother, this is my one day off, all you have to do is not be jerk. Whoever the older man is in the pro shop, he ruined it for our group to play here again. If you read other comments this seems to be a theme. read more

Warning!!!! There is currently no snack bar/restaurant, alcohol service or clubhouse as a new facility is under construction. This includes no service (snack/beer girl) on the course either. By my estimation it won't be ready for 18 months or so. They've only just broken ground. No beer while playing golf on a hot summer's day? Forget about it! There was nothing posted on their website about this before purchasing our green fees. That's my reason for the one star. I won't go back until the renovation is complete and I look forward to posting a better rating. read more

Course in decent condition. Just hold personal belongings close. Left a rangefinder on a bench, realized it 2 holes later, went back and it was gone. No one turned it in. Checked back for a week. Disappointing. read more

Horrible customer service! Pro Shop guy expressed how much they disliked customers. We were on the course, suddenly he drove up to us and started in on us about how far behind we were because the group behind us complained. He wouldn't stop telling us how much of an issue it was even though we tried to move along. Only to find out that there were two holes between the group complaining and the group behind them, so they were just playing a lot faster than everyone else. Had they asked to play through we would have let them. There is also no restaurant and no drinks/food to be had while playing there. This is the second incident we had playing this course, we will not come back! read more

If only .5 of 1 star was an option. Conditions are garbage tee to green. They act like they don't know it's a municipal golf course. It's under construction and they don't even offer a twilight golf rate. Oh and no beer sold directly bf construction. Why??? Also don't come to the range if you want to hit grass. I've been coming here sporadically for 20 years to hit balls and I've hit off the mats all but one measly time. I was actually shocked. They need to realize who they are, a golf course for the people. The country club is 10 minutes north. read more

Please don't golf here!! The course is poorly run and the staff is awful. Tee times after 3 are a ripoff and the pro shop will kick you off after 9 holes after paying almost the price of 18. You can drive 10 minutes down the road to any place where the employees are better, the course is more fun to play, and you can play a full 18 after 3. Especially if you are a student at CU Boulder, there are better places for your money (Broadlands, Hyland Hills, Coal Creek, etc.) read more

Nice course though their often aren't many discounts for the locals. The price for a senior walking 9, is a little Less then numerous other courses for walking 18. I have been playing this course for the last 15 years and oddly enough haven't always felt welcomed. Case in point presently, due to the coronavirus there is a large sign and it is mentioned at ever interval, that no One without a tee time may use the driving range. I had to call in to get on my friend's tee time but managed too, for our 8AM tee time. Wanting to be able to legitimately, now use the range, I called back in simply asking a different pro shop person what time the range would open. Stating first that I had a tee time. When he did answer my question he yelled over me that the range would open at 7 AM, "IF YOU HAVE A TEE TIME!"...yeah whatever. read more

Terrible service from the pro shop, representatives named Ross and Austin were very rude, could not keep pace of play and even drove to my group to yell at us even though we had people teeing off in front of us. Absolute worst experience I've ever had golfing. The staff here are a bunch of assholes who treat you like children. They have no regard for the players or the course. Had a tee time around 2:00 and all of the water coolers are empty. Greens are covered in fuzz, and we played 18 holes in a little under five hours. People go here in jeans and a tee shirt and hack balls like it's their day job. No etiquette whatsoever, almost had to fight someone two holes ahead of us. I'm loading my clubs in the car after the round and a ball hits my cart steering wheel on the fly almost killing my buddy. I would never ever recommend spending your money here. OH AND THEY DONT SELL BEER. read more

Wonderful walking course, cant applaud maintenance enough. Enjoyable walking course with an incredible view of the Flatirons. Overall WONDERFUL! While there have been ups and downs this past year, part time staff through covid have done an incredible job. Cool place to introduce golfers to the game, especially kids. They have rental sets for all ages supplied by Great Western Bank. read more

Pace of play is horrible. Staff (mainly a guy named Tom) is incredibly unfriendly. Over priced for the condition/layout of the course. There are so many great courses near Boulder. Staff: Some of the staff are good and some are very rude. It is a very well known fact among golfers in town that Brian is extremely rude and absolutely doesn't care about the clients. I have had 1 business meeting and 1 outing occasion with some embassy officials and both times, Brian came out of the pro shop just to yell at as. He LITERALLY scolded us. Another occasion is during the summer they hired some kids to work and one of the boys just has a bad attitude. It baffles me that the city would let people like them work there. Danny on the other hand is a warm and friendly staff, so is David a couple others. Range balls: $10 for 100 really crummy balls that will have a tough time flying true past 220 yards. You decide... Course Price: Maybe it's because it's Boulder, but I wish that their normal prices wouldn't be that high for a course at this level. Course: Almost straight forward for the most part, not much variation in the ground level, greens are not too tough aside from a couple, namely #16. The primary hazard are trees. They'll make it tough if you miss left or right. Chipping and putting practice facility. I think that this is probably their best area. And I do like coming here for these 2 things. Overall: Flatirons is a good course to practice your full swing and ball impact. Other than that for $40-$50 I expect a more premium course such as Bear Dance, TPC plum Creek, Heritage, etc. But hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I'm from North Carolina, thus I'm used to premium courses for a low price as well as the famous Southern hospitality. Such a beautiful course overlooking the mountains. When the weather is brilliant so too will be your experience. The prices are pretty good. I went with a group of four. We got two golf carts and played a round of 18 for $36 each Sunday at 2:30 I was, however, annoyed by the golf marshal who was corralling us along at an abominable pace. We could barely tee off by the time we got to the next hole, but apparently we were still going too slow. pppttthhhh! The beer cart girl made up for it with her diligence :) Remember to bring cash if you'll be taking advantage of her services. read more

Course is very average and not worth the 50 bucks. Played on a Saturday morning and wanted some food at the turn. How about a cup of coffee? Nope. Okay... Veggie burrito (on the menu). Nope. Course refused to let me play without a full set of clubs when I got to the first tee. I was told I'd either have to rent their clubs or go and get the rest of mine. Never had to deal with something like this before, so I just refunded my game and left. As a public municipal course I don't understand why they would enforce rules that I haven't even seen at private clubs. I don't plan on returning. read more

A bit perplexed at the comments regarding unfriendly staff -- have never experienced that and have always had a fun little chat with staff when I check in.  The strength of this course in my opinion, compared to many other nearby courses carved out of neighborhoods with planted trees, is that Flatirons is an old course with old growth trees.  You want an idyllic nature experience like golfing on a course carved out of a cottonwood forest?  This is your course.  Likewise on a number of holes you tee off with the snow covered Rockies in the background. The course has plenty of geese, and also owls and red tail hawks. Also after growing up in Oregon where courses are for much of the season either like a wet sponge, or in late summer -- bone dry, the grass and greens here are typically healthy and just soft enough.  If you live in Boulder they have several discount programs that make it hard to beat. read more

I don't at all understand the negative comments. Yes, Flatirons is a muny, so those looking for a "country club" might be disappointed. Yes, if you are a low handicapper, you might not find Flatirons challenging enough. But for those of us (which is most of us by the way) who are very average players, it is interesting with just enough challenge. It is usually in excellent condition, and the mountain views are very special. It is very walkable, and most players do walk. Those who don't like walkers should join a "Club". The price is excellent compared to most golf around the country and a good value. I have never had anything but good interactions with the staff. The maintenance staff is courteous with their mowers so as not to disrupt play. For those who want good food and a 19th hole to swill a beverage... you too should go join a "Club". And wow you can play/pay for only 9 holes, if time doesn't allow for 18; that is very unusual around the country. So those who find Flatirons doesn't rate highly, we'd be happy if you left it to those of us who appreciate it. read more
