Our second visit was to see a Larry Fleet concert, and again was a great experience. It is small enough to feel like an intimate show, but large enough to not feel crowded despite a strong turnout. Alcohol pricing is perfectly reasonable and with a capable bar, and it's nice having food trucks. Add to that nearby free parking and easy entry, and what's not to love for a concert venue?? On a cold October night, we really appreciated having the fire pits burning not only for the warmth but also that wonderful smoky smell that fits the season. It's really nice having a decent venue so close to home, and I'm trying to remember to check their website more often for upcoming events.

It's outdoors, so there is good and bad with that. You can be rained out, and it can be quite hot, but for the most part it works and is flexible. We went to a concert and the sound was fine, but I don't think that is necessarily Ziggy's fault anyway. There were separate areas for purchasing drinks. I do think they need to change the way the drink lines work because they were loooong and some lines were only half-staffed. The staff running the place were super friendly and really busting it. Overall, they've got a nice space and a bunch of nice people working for them. At this point, it's all just minor tweaks.

This is the third business I've seen occupy this location since moving to Greensboro, and I love that they kept the original garage door windows while giving the space a fresh identity. Between the craft cocktails and arcade games, it's a fun place to spend an evening. The cocktails are great and well crafted. They run about $15, every drink I've tried has been enjoyable, but the House Cosmo has become my go-to, the martini list is a favorite of mine. The bartenders are always friendly and welcoming, and it's fun knowing that one of them founded Girls Guide to Greensboro. George's Garage also keeps things interesting with a great lineup of events, including monthly book clubs, craft nights, and weekly trivia (shout-out to Zero Dark Nerdy!). One tip if you're visiting: George's Garage shares the building with Machete and Sage Mule, so there are parking spaces nearby. Just don't park at Deep Roots Market--you'll likely get towed. I usually personalize my Manhattan since many bartenders pour a little too much of the sweet vermouth. This one came out perfect. And my wife's spicy margarita also had a nice kick, she loved it. This is a great spot for a pre-dinner or pre-Tanger drink or a fun hangout with friends or family enjoying great drinks in a cozy and chill atmosphere.

The glass ended up cutting my leg so I had to ask the security for some help. While this happened there was no clear effort from the staff to check in on the situation or see if anyone was harmed. I'm not even sure if the person who dropped the bottle was actually addressed or if they just ran away. I had to deal with the bleeding myself with no care or concern from the staff. In fact, while I was dealing with the bleeding, I was given attitude by the security staff when I was clearly upset and bothered by the situation. They offered no assistance and didn't even ask about what happened or how I was doing. I left soon after that while being beyond annoyed. If I worked here, I would be embarrassed if this is how I handled this situation, and would not want to show my face there again.

Because there's really never enough time in my crazy schedule to drive to Greensboro (incidentally, where my family lives and who I've only seen three times this year because of said schedule). My days at Walker's were many. And simpler. And boy, do I miss them. Had I known about life after grad school then, I would have appreciated the small-yet-reliable satisfaction that comes from being a regular at your neighborhood dive. The drinks are strong, and cheap. The jukebox has all the classics. The bar flies are a mix of funny, crazy, and kind -- but you know each of them by name. The bartender greets you like a friend. When the most of my troubles involved writing a paper on the use of viral marketing tactics employed by Snakes on a Plane, and nearly every other night meant a stop at Walker's with my roommate, it was almost an age of innocence in some ways.
