For bar food, the Boxcar pizza is surprisingly good -- basically a step above cafeteria pizza. Hot, cheesy, and the kind of pizza that works with beer and an arcade. The problem is the selection. There are really only six pizzas on the menu, and they don't allow modifications. That really limits your options, especially if none of the six combinations are quite what you want. One other thing that really stood out was the water. I just ordered a water, and it tasted awful -- muddy, dirty, or something along those lines. Whatever the cause, it definitely didn't taste clean or fresh. The arcade itself is a cool concept and makes for a fun atmosphere, but as a place to grab food, the limited menu keeps it from being somewhere I'd specifically come back to eat. read more

Sadly the pizza was lacking in flavor and the wait time was very long considering they were not very busy. Boxcar has always been one of my favorite places downtown but I recently tried the pizza and I was impressed! We just went for the classic pepperoni but it was delicious and not too expensive. It tasted fresh and came out really hot & quick. I really enjoyed the crust too. The games at boxcar are always fun - they have Mario kart, basketball, skeeball, old school games, & so many more. The service has always been good there - they can get really crowded depending on the time so it can take a little bit to get a drink but the bar is huge. They usually have special drinks for holidays or events which is always fun but I recommend getting there early if you want one because they tend to run out quickly. The inside is huge and there's a nice outside area. During the day on the weekend they often have live music for free so I definitely recommend checking it out! I do wish they stayed open until 2 because a lot of bars downtown close at 1 and I'm a night owl but that's a small complaint in the grand scheme of things. read more

There's also a bunch of physical bar games like basketball, air hockey, foosball, etc. It's so easy to spend the whole day here. Stopped in here as part of our Brew Peddler tour of Greensboro, and then came back after for more fun. I've been multiple times before, and am still a big fan. So many great retro games, different game styles for everyone in your group, they've also got a full bar and a pizza kitchen with some fantastic pizzas. We spent about an hour after the tour here, just hanging out and playing different games. We also got a chicken bacon ranch pizza which absolutely hit the spot. Full of flavor and generously topped, it was exactly what I needed to refuel! We were able to enjoy it on their large front porch, which offered a nice breeze, but also sim coverage. Majority of the coin machines weren't working. The ones that were working, you could not use a card on them and had to use the atm next to it and pay the fee. A large amount of the gaming machines had out of order signs on them, and some that didn't would just eat your coins. Gets pretty packed the later it gets and you can barely hear yourself think. Drinks are pricey, you have to pay to park and if you leave even over a minute over your time slot, "parking management solutions" will send you a BS bill in the mail. We visited boxcar recently to meet up with some friends for some drinks and games. Upon coming up to the front ateos security scan you with a metal detector wand and they check IDs while you look at a small camera, so it is obvious that safety is important. This place has a very fun vibes with lots of retro and modern arcade games, pinball machines and sports and tabletop games. I had fun playing the old streetfighter versus X-Men arcade and the other classic street fighter game. My wife kept it rocking with guitar hero. You tend to not realize how long this establishment has been here now but it's still holding up and a great place to hang out. Plenty of games to choose from whether new, arcade, pinballs, nostalgic retro games, or physical movement games. The layout is much more wide open as years past, including more tabletops to sit inside and their pizza truck is now a giant pizza oven inside as well. - The pizza is pretty good with many different options and toppings to choose from. The only gripe is I wish they had sides. The deck area is expanded and they typically have live music out there. I have been here multiple times since they opened years ago. Since then, they've grown in games, food, events. They do a great job here. It can get crowded but it's spacious. If a machine eats your coins let them know and they'll reimburse you. Great service here! I've been in their private event space for a wedding and it was very nice, I would use their space for an event after seeing how well it was executed here. Pizza is excellent as well.
