Stopped in at Flash today for a cold one just for old times sake. Spent a lot of time here due to being born here and a lumberjack. Order a beer that came out to $5.41. Which is totally reasonable. Paid with a $10. She handed me back 4$. I asked another server do they give back coins and she was like yes we round up. I look at the bartender and was like you didn't give me the correct change. She looked at me like I was wrong. "I can give you the two quarters is you want." I mean I was gonna give her that anyway but I felt like she was taking. Ain't no way they would've given me that beer if I was two quarters short on the original payment. So I don't understand why she felt the need to keep it. Food was ordered by dine in party and brought home. The order of "pig wings" was paid for at the restaurant, cooked and passed to the customer by bar staff, who didn't even take time to check that the order was right. Inspection of the food upon home arrival, revealed one "pig wing", one half "pig wing", and one breaded and fried "bone" All to the tune of $10! After contacting the staff by phone, there was no one in the restaurant who could address the situation ( no management on duty who could make any immediate managerial decisions). I was told that they could leave a message for management to address the problem. That created another problem! Typically when you order food, one would like to eat it then, right? Not the next day, when someone can finally be present to address the situation. Staff on hand, were ill prepared to handle the situation, could not fathom the customers disappointment, while offering no immediate solution. Hung up on the lcustomer, not once, but twice! This all because they either don't care, or couldn't handle the criticism to come up with a feasible solution! I am a Nacogdoches resident, and I will never be caught dead at flashbacks ever again! And as for the cooking staff that sent that over priced order out, you should be ashamed! And as for the bar staff who answered the phone call, with no avail to the problem, you should be ashamed for being so dismissive to the complainant! I was in your establishment tonight (2130-2215) for a beer and appetizer. Sat at the bar for at least 5 minutes while Bri ("bartender") carried on conversation with waitress about work drama and who was dating who. Was finally able to order a IPA. Never offered a menu (there goes the food upsell!). Finally got a menu minutes later when I asked. Inquired about a couple of appetizers and suddenly had the undivided attention of Bri, waitress, and two kitchen staff. Decided on the Italian sausage pizza Rollies. A few minutes later, was able to get Bri's attention for some more marinara since it came with about the same amount as a McDonalds ketchup packet for three decent size rolls. During this time, I was never asked if I needed anything (silverware, etc.) or even "How is it?". After waiting 10+ minutes for the small cup of marinara to arrive, drumming my fingernails on the bar, etc. I got up and cracked the door to the kitchen and yelled into the kitchen to get someone's attention, since Bri was obviously overworked at the bar while talking to the 5 other non employees at the bar, She yelled that I cannot go back in the kitchen (I merely pushed the door open a crack and yelled back there to get someone's attention. My body never crossed the plane of the door). I told told her what I was doing and why. Her response was "Too Bad, you can't do that". I said I would like to finish my appetizer as it was already almost cold at this point and if she could not do her job and wait on a paying customer, I would seek a solution elsewhere. I then asked to speak to a manager. Apparently, one does not exist. Kitchen staff handed me the marinara. During the time, Bri continued to berate me. I stated that I had bartended, waited tables, etc. in my life and would never forget a customer. Once again from Bri, "You are free to leave at anytime, I don't need your business". At that point, I told her that her tip was dying on the vine. When I said this, two men, one black, one white, who apparently work in the kitchen but were at the bar told me to leave and she would "get her money". I dated "not from me. I asked for manager's name and phone number and was told to call the business. I told her I would leave my phone number on the merchant copy of the credit card. She said she would have a manager or owner call me (doubtful). I am a pilot by trade and am looking at establishments to host a 15th reunion of the operation I ran in Afghanistan for 5 1/2 years. This reunion is slated to take place in late September. At this time, I have 42 confirmed and 8 possibles of the people I worked with (plus unknown number of wives/girlfriends/etc). I would estimate average cheque for food and bar to be $60-$100/person per night. Not to include tip value to your employees. I have already left a review on your Facebook page (review grade went from 82% before my review to 80% after...in letter grade from high school, C+ at best). Now I know why. Food was not bad, but service was atrocious. Since Bri said my business was not welcome, I think I will take her advice. Maybe the Shack would like to host us? Or McLemore's? Or, maybe we shift to Dallas and Strokers and take a $8000+ food weekend plus hotels, etc. elsewhere? I am a pilot by trade. I would almost bet my paycheck that a older professional crowd in your establishment for a weekend would order more food, drinks, etc. and tip much better than SFA students....but, apparently your establishment doesn't need my/our business (according to Bri). I can tell this is the case from the massive crowd in there tonight (approximately 10 people besides obvious employees) or the 40ish frat guys the only other time I have been there on a Friday night last Spring. I spend my time writing this because you cannot fix it if you do not know what is wrong. Your Facebook reviews are 80%. Your Yelp is 3.0 of 5.0 stars with 9 (NINE) ONE STAR reviews (out of 22). I have yet to check Trip Advisor. My next two reviews will be on Yelp and Trip Advisor. Funny how Frogs went out of business for much the same thing. As stated, you cannot fix what you don't know is wrong. I have worked years in the restaurant/bar/club industry. My degree is in management. RUN!!! Do not come here!!! I drove 2 hrs to see my dad and we decided to come here to eat a quick bite. Well to start off the tea was watered down so much I should have just ordered water. The food we ordered took one hour to get. When we got it my order was wrong and the other two people I was with their food was cold. Dad got a chicken fried steak and was served without a knife to cut it, when asked for one the waitress said well we don't have any because they are all dirty I asked her can you not was one. Waitress was very rude!!! Short staffed, cold food and rude employees. I could go on and on. Sad that I just wanted a nice visit with my Dad. Only gave 1 star because I had to read more

This evening (10/18/2023) I visited Flashback Cafe & experienced something worth documenting. My trained service dog (Mace) was with me & shortly after ordering my beverage and appetizer the manager approached my table. The manager rudely stated dogs were not allowed inside & said I needed to move to patio. I explained Mace is a service animal & the manager asked for documentation. I provided the documentation even though this was completely unacceptable & in violation of ADA laws to ask a customer for. This is the second time I've had trouble with this particular restaurant with this same issue so I am writing a review to serve as a time stamp in case of future legal action is needed. You need to TRAIN your staff ASAP on ADA laws. This repetitive incompetence is not only in violation but extremely hurtful to anyone requiring service animal assistance. PER ADA LAWS - ONLY 2 QUESTIONS MAY BE ASKED: (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability, and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform. I chose to go to this restaurant/bar tonight & spend my money as a patron. The next time I come I will audio record every interaction with management. If I experience anything remotely similar to this again I will be filing a formal legal complaint against this restaurant. read more

I've been here multiple times bc I do enjoy the food and atmosphere but every time I have gone they always mess up the order when it comes to the check. If I ask for a vodka sprite single I get charged for a double. And the happy hour is not promised on the check. I'll say something every time but they never fix it when I give them my card. I would love to keep going but I'm not going to keep spending my money there. All the waitresses always have attitude when it comes to my trying to ask why I get charged doubles when I said single. Every college town has a local bar that's more or less the college bar. Flashback Cafe is exactly that. I visited with a friend last weekend and it was pretty slow due to the summer. Both of us decided to visit for dinner as opposed to staying to drink. The good news is that they have a pretty thorough menu with wings, ribs, pizzas, burgers, and all the usual bar food. The chips, queso, and salsa were the standard fare as were my boneless wings. The homemade fries were definitely homemade and the best thing I ate. The service, while friendly, was hit and miss. We had to flag down our server(s) for various things including drink refills and basics like napkins. read more

I swore I'd posted this before. But I quit giving this jerk my money after I was going to pick up my rental car reservation & realized one of his bartenders had forgotten to give me back my ID after I paid my tab the night before. I call to ask if I can come by to get my ID since I need it to get my rental & leave to go visit family, the owner basically couldn't be bothered to figure out where his bartenders kept ID's. I was able to get around it since I needed to update my address on my license & since this was pre-Covid I went to the dmv office & got the paper updated license & got my hard copy ID from the bar once I got back. And then could never be bothered to give him any of my money ever again. I imagine he doesn't care but by this point I just have no business w/ his establishment. read more

I have been to the Flashback-LaNana Creek-Flashback Cafe about ten times since I moved here from Austin. It's name has changed three times after recently reverting back to the original Flashback name after a couple years under LaNana Creek Icehouse. Unfortunately the owner of this place does not seem to be able to master even the most basic task of ownership ie; a proper name to define your establishment. This place is obviously not an icehouse and almost as obviously not a cafe! I was prompted to write this review after ordering a pizza to pick up. Arrived and was surprised at the $17.20 price tag for the pizza. Half heartedly I paid for the pizza which was OK but a horrible value for a dive bar in Nac. It appears that part of the new and innovative business plan for the bar is to raise prices to gauge as much money as possible from the sale of pizza. I will never order from here again and it's hard to see how most college students will either. Speaking of college students; I stopped by about a month ago to have a beer during an early ball game for happy hour. Noticed two attractive and sophisticated looking female college students come into the bar. They were seated at the front of the house at a bar table and I noticed they started checking out the place. They immediately began to shake their heads with looks of disgust on their faces and walked out. This reaction is probably pretty typical of most visitors who are used to bright and shinny new places in the big cities around Texas. Flashback needs new ownership with resources to do a complete makeover of the business model and to renovate the space. It's dark, dingy and feels cramped due to the middle section where the bathrooms are which divides the bar and creates the opposite of an open concept. The owner can not even create an effective website for the bar. When you scroll down on the main page to the "see the menu" tabs for the items the bar offers you get the "oh no" can't be displayed pop up window. When you click on the "about us" tab it still has not been updated to reflect the latest name change and says; "Lanana Creek Icehouse has turned old school into the new spot." The website claims to be the "only spot" for chicken shit bingo which is a lie because one of my favorite places to play is the Little LongHorn in Austin which has been offering chicken shit bingo for 40 years. My ten year old created an up and running website in one evening and could easily fix and update this website! I do not enjoy writing negative reviews like this but Nac needs businesses with competent ownership to raise tax revenue to help support the city. It is time for this space to "flash forward" to new ownership because it has failed at least three times! read more

I do not recommend this place. I ordered BBQ brisket pizza and Mango Margaritas. After 15 minutes the waitress told me they made a macaroni pizza. So I had to wait another 15 minutes to get my food. The pizza had very few pieces of brisket as you can see in the picture. The waitress also told me the margaritas were $3.75, but when she brought the ticket they were $4.00 plus they added on another $1.50 each for the flavor. I ordered large margaritas and they were maybe 8oz. Nothing cool about this place. I see now why the reviews are low. read more

This is such a gem! We started coming to flash back in 2015 & moved away then moved back this year & outside of a few things it's the same homie bar we remember! Pizza & wings are great! They have some awesome specials I think just about every day of the week! Tater kegs are the best appetizer! We've gotten a few other things but we usually stick to a pizza & wings! Service has been great every single time we have been in, even back in 2015-2018 lol. It's your typical bar, some parts are loud, some are chill, some are only focused on the games lol. We love it! I have heard positive reviews about this place so my family decided to try it. The servers were nice and checked on us several times. The problem was the time it took to get the food. We waited over an hour and a half to find out our food was forgotten. As a diabetic with already low blood sugar, I can't wait that long after driving another hour and a half to get there.
