Espresso martini - 1 dairy free - both SO good!

We went for brunch, and were pleasantly surprised at what a great little spot this is for drinks (espresso martini was to die for!), food (was incredibly delicious-try the scones!!), and the owners were not only friendly and flexible with our orders (we had a food allergy in our group), but had lots of historical information about the building and spirits they sell! Will definitely go back!

If you want to get your Irish on...or just get it on with wine and spirits I can think of no better place and space than Flanigan's. We recently stopped there because of curiosity and commonality. You see my wife's maiden name shares the unique spelling of Flanigan, usually written as Flanagan. What's in a name? Everything! The warm and open interior belies Flanigan's outward warehouse like appearance. Turns out the space was a set location for The Newton Boys, repurposed to look like a 1930's era hotel. Yes, you too can walk in the footsteps of Matthew McConaughey! Beyond the atmosphere in abundance the lovely Mrs. G reports the wine was fabulous, good enough to compel her to buy two bottles of their Chardonnay. We shared a deliciously diverse cheese plate, reasonably priced at $14.00. The venue offered live music with a troubadour alternating between Irish folk songs and cowboy tunes from trail. So if you find yourself somewhere between Liberty Hill and Llano, consider a stop at Flanigan's in Bertram. Flanigan's is fantastic!

The Grandmas are working their way through the Texas Hill Country Winery Map and are having the time of our lives. Recently, we went "off map" and discovered a delightful gem, Flanigan's in Bertram, TX. Flanigan's was built in 1904 and still has intact its beautifully crafted grand staircase. The rest of the building contains movie set modifications from the movie, "The Newton Boys", which starred Matthew McConaughey. The true charm of Flanigan's is Ted, who lead the guided wine tasting. Through most of the wine tastings we have tried so far we have gotten the run of the mill run down of the various wines and then left on our own. Ted led us through an informative and delightful wine tasting experience. We learned the history behind each wine as well as the shape of the glass can alter the taste of the wine, (https://www.riedel.com/en-us/shop) which is something we has not learned in our previous wine tasting adventures. Ted also told us about the history of the wine, the story behind each wines name, history of the building, the movie that was shot there, and so much more. We also were delighted to met the owners of Flanigan's, Drs. Kevin and Dana Flanigan, and had the pleasure of spending a few moments with them talking about their business and our mutually favorite vacation spot, Alaska. Unlike other wine tasting venues, Flanigan's also offers a guided Spirit tasting which one "regular" sitting at the bar near us warned, "It will put you on the floor". Flanigan's also serves custom cocktails and tasty, made in house appetizers and sandwiches. Be sure to treat yourself to a wine tasting paired with a special Sunday Dinner. Take a look at their menu here: https://flaniganspirits.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/2018-09-01-Menus.pdf Flanigan's is a must visit for wine or spirit lovers. While you are there make sure to ask Dana about the significance of the hummingbird in their logo and found throughout the building. don't forget to go upstairs to checkout the Hollywood set modifications and to checkout the cozy lounging nooks. We simply have not experienced a better wine tasting venue than Flanigan's.

They just opened for their soft opening and don't have any hard spirits ready for sale yet but I'm told they will be ready in a couple weeks before the grand opening. Flannigan's is partnering with nearby Pilot Knob winery for the wine offerings and likewise the quality and service is excellent. They have limited food options for now but I'm sure those will be expanded as they grow as well.

Both are quite drinkable neat. But we also had fun making old fashioneds with both, as well. At just $45 a bottle, it's a heck of a deal. So much better than most is the $50 to $80 whiskeys we buy. Plus, as an added bonus, the Kooper family is very hospitable, informative, fun to hang out with at the bar, and they offer nice tastings at a great price ($16 for three pours), which allows you to determine which bottle is your favorite. You can't get that experience or that level of service at any liquor store! If you find yourself within an hour of this place, you need to visit! While you're in town, checkout the big antique store in Giddiness and have lunch or dinner at Los Patrones. Giddings will soon become one of your favorite towns.

At 11:30 am on a Tuesday, I had the place to myself. The young lady behind the bar was super nice and let me sample a few offerings. I settled in The Prodigal Son. Smooth, not too peppery. Nice sipper. Once I got home, I poured me a bigger taste. Very good and added a few pieces of Sonic ice and that was it. Good pour.
