This place was interesting. Kind of out in the middle of nothing and then all of a sudden - oh, look! A bar! I came here for a work happy hour and it was a welcome change from the Max & Erma's on Broad (where we typically go). Had a laid-back divey feel and your standard no-fuss bartenders and patrons. Considering we were there around 3, I was actually surprised a few other people were there. Regulars, I suppose. I did feel for the bartender, as it appeared no one had called ahead to warn her 40 people might be showing up soon. Overall though, she totally held her own and got all of our orders taken care of. We didn't eat so I can't speak to the food, but the beer selection was pretty basic. Maybe I'm spoiled living near so many bars that pride themselves on their local and craft brew selections. About 8 beers on draft, including Guinness, Killians, Bud, etc. and a couple seasonals from Sam Adams and Blue Moon. Doubt that I'll be back unless another work outing takes me to this place, but I'm really glad we discovered an alternative that could handle a large group! read more

Friday, May 31 was the second time I had eaten here in a week. The food is always good. Pub food as expected, excellent French fries, burgers, pizza etc. I don't know what the major malfunction was on Friday, but it took 25 minutes to get drinks and appetizers (just fries and shrimp), then it took another 45 minutes to get pizza and a sub. My God! We wound up being there for more than 2 hours. The wait was bad, but the worst part was the "entertainment". The guitar player and guy's voice was not bad, but the women who subbed in and out with him were horrible torture on the ears. Sounded like someone set a cat on fire and couldn't douse the flames. Had to chase the server to pay the bill, kid you not, we were standing for 15 minutes just trying to get out of there! read more

Was invited here by a friend for lunch. Honestly if she hadn't I would never have known about the place. Its hidden away in a neighborhood in New Albany. Which is a good and bad thing. Good because its one of those places to go to when you want to get away from the crowds, Bad because well....you dont know its there. The ordered the fish tacos. I first discovered Flanagan's Blacklick back when I worked third shift. They would open up at 7AM, and me and my buddy would hit it up for some good breakfast food and some beers. I have now joined the majority of the world and work a first shift job (usually), so drinking in the morning doesn't happen quite as often as it used to. I still visit every so often in the evenings, and pizza is my go to food item. We normally get a large and split it among friends. They have a large outdoor patio which is great for enjoying during the summer (if you can get a seat), and there are often live bands that they bring in. Service is normally quick and friendly. The beer selection isn't great, as others have mentioned, but I do enjoy a Yuengling, which they always have. read more

Stopped in here for the first time tonight with my wife. Had always wanted to try it and am really glad we did. I started with a beer - great price for draft - and the fried chicken livers. Not something you see everywhere and they were great! If you like livers, try these. Nice crunch then that great chicken liver texture. Wife and I both had burgers - she had a regular burger and I went with the Blacklick burger. Both burgers had great flavour, cooked nicely. Not one of those trendy "brioche bun" burgers, but a good quality bar burger they should be very proud of. Heard customers saying good things about the wings and saw a pizza that looked good, so we are already planning to return. Love this out of the way neighbourhood type place. read more

I enjoy having a pub/restaurant out in the middle of Blacklick since I leave out here. The employees and owners are friendly and you can feel the 'family' vibe. The outdoor patio in the summer with a pizza and beer is the best, you can't go wrong. read more

Went to watch the Women's NCAA final Four Semi-final game. There were 7 TV's in South Bar. One did not work Two started with Field Hockey then went to a show on Hayden Frye and Iowa Hawkeyes, the a replay of BIG 10 Volleyball (season has ended). Three TV's had replay of College Softball Kentucky versus Tennessee, then Florida Versus LSU. Both games were from prior weekend. The seventh TV, furthest from the table I was at had the NCAA Semi-final game. Waitress said they would not change any more Big TV's. I will stay at home next time or go to another PUB. This is my first review and I think that Flanagan's was worthy. My wife and I tried it because it was close and the other reviews were all positive. The service was great and the burgers were fantastic and the prices were fair. The atmosphere is ok, it's got a little neighborhood bar feel to it. We will definitely be back. read more

Very unpleasant experience. After drinking 1 light draft beer, eating a sandwich and coleslaw, I became very ill. I believe I had food poisoning from something I ate there. I will not be returning to this location. They need to check their food handling and check their beer dispensing. Something was not right. read more

I've been here several times and the food is really not good compared to other places in the area. The burgers, sandwiches and appetizers I have tried were all pretty bland and sub standard. My wife, and I, give Flannigan's 5 stars due to the incredible staff behind the bars, serving on the floor and patio, kitchen staff, and management. Flannigan's is a local treasure that welcomes all, and treats everybody like family. I can get a burger and beer at any restaurant, but you can't find the type of service and staff that welcomes you by name, and has a beer or wine in your hand practically before you sit down. With local musicians who play every weekend from Thursday to Sunday, you can beat the atmosphere and environment. We don't come to Flannigan's for fast food, we can get that at McDonalds. We come to Flannigan's because we know that we will always be treated like family and there is always someone there who is happy to strike up a conversation with you at any time. We started with the fried mushrooms. Very tasty! They have the hearty version of the Beyond burger, which I had in the style of smoky jalapeño. Hubby had double bacon burger, not realizing each patty was 7 ounces so he couldn't finish it. They were a tad overcooked but otherwise very good. Toasted bun. Yummy!! Giant salads! We also ordered the tuna melt and fries. I'm a tuna salad snob and I mentioned that to our waitress, sooo glad she talked me into it. It was delicious! During work hours, this place was on the way to my next job....I like to support and try local....I did not get to try here. A lot of local places from our experience lacks service, unless your a regular, which brings me to the discussion of Flanagan's....well, not really much to discuss, stopped for lunch, walked in, sat at a table in the dining room. No greeting, no "ill be right with you"....sat and watched the bartender talking it up at the bar, two guys came in and walked up to get their carryout order, which she had ready, another guy walked in and while walking past the bar was greeted as he went to get popcorn, came back, sat down and was taken care of....so picking up that I was not a regular here, and feeling unwelcome, I decided to leave. A little different than that frat house on Sawmill. Not a bad place. I am always looking for those holes in the wall, and this is one of those gems. It is hard to get a place like this considering that everything around the Gahanna-New Albany area has popped up out of no where in the last decade, so finding a place that is not brand new and with a little character is nice. You walk in and it is a half hearted attempt at being an Irish pub but it works! Not to say they didnt do a good job but it it could have been anything, they went with an Irish theme. I noticed they recently got new tv's behind the bar which are very nice. It is one of those unique spaces where you dont feel too crammed even when it is packed, but at the same time even when it is dead, it still feels cozy and not cold. That's for the winter months. For the spring and summer, this place has a rockin patio. The first time i showed up here was in the summer and i bypassed the whole inside and went around back. They have a full service bar and plenty of space. They had a performer Cliff Cody, great choice for this atmosphere. He was up there singing acoustically with a Bob Seger-esque voice. Everyone was tuned in and dancing or at least bobbing their heads, even the group of Golden Buckeye members that commandeered a spot right up front were loving the music. I didnt mention this earlier but this place is also a place where you find it all. Something about it where you could have a staff of Abercrombie and Fitchers having a happy hour behind you, a couple of construction workers having a after work drink next to you, the local who hasnt left his post at the corner of the bar, a couple resembling my parents on the other side. This place makes every one feel right at home. As for the food. Typical bar food. Pizzas are really good. Rest of the food, hit or miss i would say. But the real gem and i dont think many people know about this is the breakfast! No to many places are out there that do it all but this place does. If you love the Flanagans on Sawmill, this might not be the place for you. But if you are looking for a great dive bar, do yourself a favor, stop in. read more

Looking for a patio with music? Flanagan's has a great spot for you. Beer selection is that of a typical bar consisting of domestics. I love craft beer and wish they had a great pale ale or Belgian on, but the patio makes up for that for sure. Food consists of again typical bar food, but everything is good. Nice little diving bar kind of between Gahanna/Reynoldsburg. We all got hamburgers. Husband has been talking about them for years. Now that I eat meat he is on a mission to take me to his favorites. They completely forgot our order!! I will most definitely never come back here!! First off the place looks like a total smoke house! What a trash hole! Than we are seated and and one of the chairs outside was BROKEN! We ordered and the only THE ONE AND ONLY good thing I can say about this place is our waitress was very nice, but very idiotic. We wait and wait and go up after 45 minutes and ask where is our freeking food? They say it will be done shortly. Ok so we wait and wait and it has probably been a hour and 25 minutes. Now we are mad we go up again and say ok, if our food isn't done in 5 minutes we are leaving they say "Oh my I am very sorry we totally forgot your order can we get it again! No kidding the lady says this. Desperate to eat we tell her again. We finally get our food and it is decent. Went to Flannigan's for lunch today. The place was almost empty, at 1:30 p.m., which says something! Our table was dirty, when we were seated. There were three others eating when we arrived, and one of those worked there, as he went behind the counter when he was done eating. My husband ordered a burger and fries; I ordered fish-and-chips. While my husband said his food tasted decent, by the time we were back in the car and driving, he said he didn't feel very good. My fish was horrible. The texture of the fish fillets themselves were almost chewy; the inner batter was undercooked (so there was a wet, doughy consistency); the outer batter was overcooked. My guess is that they pulled frozen, battered fish portions from their freezer, possibly microwaved them for a quick "thaw," and then deep fried them at too high of a temp? Halfway through our meal, we were the only patrons in the place. I was never offered a refill on my iced tea (which tasted like it was close to a week old). I went up to the bar area for a refill, and when no one came out to help me, I helped myself to a refill of water, using a pitcher on the bar top. Don't waste your time or money. Instead of going on to our next scheduled event, we went home because my husband simply didn't feel well. Really disappointed, as this restaurant was recommended. read more

This place has been one of my favorite bars in the New Albany area. Tucked away on a quiet road, I did not expect it to be as popular as I found it to be. Although it was busy, the staff didn't seem phased at all. The waiters spent time getting to know their tables, and seemed very invested in their craft - making sure that their guests had an enjoyable time. This created a comfortable atmosphere that allowed everyone to take their time and enjoy their meal without feeling rushed out the door. By recently renovating the back party room amongst other positive changes, these new aspects made me do something that I didn't think was possible; make me love the place even more. read more
