These folks served me day old oxtails with watered down gravy. If you go to this place, taste the food before you leave. I bought two oxtail dinners and drove more than 20 minutes before I tasted it. I've been coming here for years with no issue. I called, no answer. Fine! I threw the food out and decided I would just go up there when I'm back in the area. This guy says to me, "I wasn't working that day." I never told him what day I bought the two dinners. They must be under new management. Disgusting with no apology what so ever. read more

Really love this place. I gave it a 5 mainly because jamaiccan cuisine is tough to find and the food/portions are great. I would recommend the jerk chicken as by far the best dish, but the curry chicken is 4 star quality. The portions are huge and I usually get 2 meals out of a $10.50 dinner serving. Not in the greatest neighborhood, and not sure if you want to go there at night. but a day time pickup to go should be no issue. read more

They definitely gave us yesterday's food I think. the curry goat was so dry, the rice was mushy like they just poured too much water and heated it up like that. My friend got the oxtails was not as good as it could've been or usually is. This was such a disappointment especially since we were early for lunch and thought we would be getting the freshest of the fresh. So sad Flames, I always root for you. Went to Flames about a month ago and found the quality to have taken a serious nosedive. Ordered the curry goat and jerk chicken. The chicken was definitely not fresh, and that was disappointing. The meat was tough and the flavor was off. There is a big difference between chicken that is slightly tough from simmering a long time, and chicken that is so tough it doesn't taste like it was made the same day. The first time I visited Flames the food was so delectable it was worth the long trip. This time it was awful. The curry goat was delicious fortunately, but we had to throw the chicken away. read more

Horrible experience! I saw a rat run behind the cooler while standing in line. The service is horrible the employees are very rude and disrespectful! I will never step foot in there again. I'm from south Florida which is a melting pot for great food from everywhere so on my trip to Boston I was a bit skeptical about the Caribbean food scene but I was pleasantly surprised when I tried the food at Flames. I was skeptical having read the other reviews, and more importantly having visited the Flames on Blue Hill Ave in Dorchester (terrible). However I just went to this one on Morton St and LOVE it. I got ackee and salt fish with boiled dumpling, banana, and yam. And a glass bottle D&G soda, like I've been used to my whole life (not easy to find anymore, even in Jamaica). The food was great. Hot, flavorful, and good portion. The people were nice. There are only a few tables in there and it was empty, which did make me worry at first that maybe it wasn't clean or maybe there were some "unwanted visitors". But I chose to sit down and eat, since I'm not from the area and I didn't have a car. It was totally good! Clean floor with clean wooden tables and chairs. I definitely recommend at least for breakfast. Will come again to get dinner another time. read more

I loved this Flames since it was built. I would go there after work comeing from MAlden, go ther during the weekends, make it Sunday meal. I love it!!! The jerk Chicken **drooling as I typer** lolol!! If you loe true west indian Food, Flames is the spot 2 be at. I usually get there Jerk chicken, with white Rice, and Cabbage. Not a fan of Curry, but they make that well too. Its pretty small, but its decent place. It can only fit like 2 or 3 people to sit down and eat. But there is no Wait time, the long can be long sometimes, but you get your food quick, and fresh and still hot. Its a great PLace!!! read more

Authentic, quality, and delicious. Went in about a half hour before close and got a medium plate of jerk chicken, rice and peas, and cabbage. Chicken had so much flavor and was melt in your mouth. Portions are huge and can't beat the prices. Great experience will def be back. read more

I got a medium Jerk Chicken plate with red beans/rice and cabbage. I wanted spicy and this chicken was the spiciest I've had in recent memory. Absolutely delicious and very tender. Had my eyes watering and nose running but I coudn't stop eating it. Not for anyone with a low tolerance for spice. The Beans and rice were good (you get a choice of either those, white rice or yellow rice), Cabbage was ok but I didn't go for the cabbage (other option is green beans). Plates come in small, medium and large. Other options for meat are Curried Chicken, Stew Beef, Curried Goat, Oxtail and more. I'll be back to try the other meat dishes. The food here is pretty good. Because I'm always on the run I can't take the time to make food like this anymore. But, I do have to say Flames food taste almost as good as my mother's cooking. The only thing is they get to be a little expensive. I frequent this place because I live just a few doors down. Normally I would have given this review a Woohoo! My best friends plan was to make me some authentic homemade Jerk chicken and bring it to my house for dinner. Plans changed when her arthritis started kicking in last night and she didnt feel up to it anymore. So she was going to get the jerk chicken from this other place in mattapan that has better jerk chicken and jerk sauce, spicy and flavorful. So, she ordered me a medium jerk chicken plate with "a whole heap a sauce" as they yelled to the preparer...for those of u who aren't familiar with the lingo, that meant I wanted a lot of sauce. As I suspected, it didnt deliver. Whoever made the chicken, didn't season it because the jerk sauce is supposed to bring out the flavor of the chicken. I was so hungry by the time my friend came, i downed most of the plate and she didnt like it either. She usually gets a curry goat and oxtail mix with white rice. The cabbage didnt even deliver, it was too garlicky...i was so annoyed. Flames, you need to stop switching cooks and step your game up! read more

This place was awesome today. I was full after only eating half of my meal, but it was so tasty that I kept going. I got the stewed beef with veggie yellow rice and cabbage and a huge chunk of cornbread. The cornbread was not the usual at all. It was sweet and smooth, almost like custard. Awesomeness. The beef chunks were so well seasoned and they cook it in a dark brown sauce with carrots and onions, and along with the saffron rice (laced with corn kernels and peas), it was amazing. I had 2 bottles of Ting, the regular one which I have always loved, and the newer version called Pink Ting which is made with pink Jamaican grapefruit. Both were fantabulous. Definitely will be a repeat customer. Kind of confusing when you first go in, but once I observed the ordering procedure, I was able to get down to business. Very small place, mainly takeout, with a very few small tables, maybe four of them. I asked the people in line for advice on what to get, and when it was my turn at the counter the guy was patient in explaining everything they had. This may be out of some people's comfort zone if you are not accustomed to the Jamaican menu (which features goat, oxtail, ackee & saltfish (ackee is a Caribbean fruit), etc., but they also have plenty of chicken served several ways, all of which looked awesome, and the macaroni and cheese was so scrumptious looking (and everybody was getting it) but I already had my plate and the guy put about 4 pounds of stuff on it, all of which I ate, so I had to pass on the mac and cheese. Good thing and bad thing, good because it probably has 5,000 calories in one serving, but bad because man, did it look awesome, golden brown crust, big elbow macaroni and tons of dark yellow cheese, my favorite. I am still stuffed and I ate there six hours ago. However, I still have a smile on my face as I think about how wonderful the food was. so i came in the restaurant about 2 weeks ago waited in line a couple minutes thereafter it was my turn to order. as i approached the window the server starts shaking his head and repeatedly says "why why why why". so a little confused as to what he was asking me i replied why what. he responds "why u gay" at this time two other customers were shocked but didn't speak up. so i said what excuse me. does it matter?he says so you telling me you dont like "dick"this is crazyyy!!! my response was no i dont with a huge smile on my face and can you put more gravy on the oxtails ithen proceed to pay for my food where the cashier snatched the money out my hand and threw the change on the counter and then left.being a us veteran and fighting for my country literally i didn't deserve this type of behaviour or interaction during a pandemic or ever the only reason im saying something now is because i started telling family members co workers friends a couple of va personal who specifically work with lgbtq community and other influential people in my community who was willing to listen tomy story and eevveerryyoonnee is disgusting and completely outraged about this event that took place on this property. at this time we are all trying to get in touch with owner. to find some type of justification and reassurance that this wont happened again read more

Outside of Brooklyn, NY, Flames has pretty good food. The best Jamaican food, I have ever had, has been from someones kitchen or from BK. This location of Flames is the better of the three. They offer a variety of choices on a daily basis. For breakfast: Ackee and salt fish, cabbage and salt fish, salt fish alone, callaloo, friend dumpling, boiled dumplings and then the provisions (yam, banana, etc.). For lunch/dinner: oxtail, cow-foot, curry chicken, curry goat, stew chicken, salmon, king fish, snapper, curry shrimp, jerk chicken, bbq chicken, white rice, rice & peas, beef pattys and more. Flames is great, because they offer a variety of food, great portions and price. If you're done with boring, try flames and heat up your life! read more

What happened? Did you change the chef?? I leave for a year and the food quality goes downhill. I could not wait to go to Flames on Morton (the good Flames if you know anything about Jamaican food) when I got back to Beantown. Now, I will need to find out where the chef went when I come back. Horrible place, 1st I went in to a empty place, so I'm the only customer, the servers just watched me for 10 minutes no greeting or anything then of course they are out of everything, one server takes my wife's order then another server who had been cleaning up comes to take my order with no gloves I asked her to put on gloves she said she didn't have to she just washed her hands I could tell she got an attitude right away gave me way less food than the other server once I was done paying I told them I would not ever come back and she said who cares you had an attitude problem anyways because I asked her to put on gloves terrible terrible customer service will never spend a dollar here again and the food is just mediocre read more

Great place with a few tables and a takeout line out the door. The curry goat and oxtail are delicious over rice and beans, and the beef patty is tasty, though the ground beef is quite fatty. The longest I have ever waited for food and mainly due to them allowing their friends,associates,family cut the line and run their mouths. Worse experience ever. Flames used to be my favorite place to grab something to eat when I don't feel like cooking. The food is great and the service from all of the men is terrific. I no longer go to flames all because of one horrible experience. Let me just say that if there is a woman serving the food, just forget about Customer Service. She was rue an ha a problem with me asking questions. Customer Service is big for any business.
