Need I say the food was delicious, I ordered jerk chicken with rice and peas, and a side of stewed cabbage. Although, the jerk sauce was a little spicy for my taste, it was still really delicious. I am West Indian so of course I love Flames Restaurant. My favorite is the curry chicken or oxtail plate with rice/peas and vegetables. My fiance loves Flame's curry goat. The meat is tender and will melt in your mouth. Another favorite is the beef patties. It has a hint of spice and the beef is savory. In addition, they have the best patties in MA. You should try the Jamaican Pineapple Cola. It is sweet with a delicious flavor. You do not have to be from the Caribbean Islands to enjoy the food so give it a try! read more

I got the small chicken, and I asked what the most popular flavor was and got that. I think it was stewed. Anyway, the flavor was really good, although a little salty. For the price of $7.95, it was a lot of food! Lots of rice, some vegetables, and three big chunks of chicken (with bones). All in takeout boxes, as there's not a lot of space to eat there (there are maybe enough seats for about 10 people total). Anyway, would recommend if you're around the area! read more

My only problem was that the staff was busy flirting with the abnormally attractive female customers ahead of me, causing me to have to wait a long time. I have visited this Flames location for the past several years now. I usually get the ox tail or stewed beef, rice and peas, fried plantains, and cabbage. I even tried their breakfast items and baked goods. I have never had a bad meal, and the portions are good for the price. They have my favorite beverage, cola champagne, so that keeps me happy. With polite service, good food, and reasonable take out prices, I'm always a happy customer. The only thing I would change, is more seating for eating in at this location. They are occasionally sold out of items to order too. They should replenish the fried plantains more often. And, I think they begin serving lunch a bit too late, at noon. Earlier lunch hours would help too. Overall, eating at Flames has been a great experience and it keeps me coming back. I recommend it. read more

Love this place! They are pretty consistent with the taste of their food.. The prices are fare for the portion you get. Great music is always playing while you wait in line. The majority of the time the staff is friendly and funny. My only complaint is that they almost never have any plantain or they run out very quickly. I was craving some West Indian Food because my mom gave away my spaghetti squash. First of all, its winter, how the hell did she grow a spaghetti squash. Am I right? Anyway, I'm trying to make changes and eat healthier so I decided to order some Tilapia. Also, I ordered rice and beans, as well as some cabbage. I mean it is St Paddys day this week! I grilled tilapia and it only takes four minutes on each side. When I eat my grilled tilapia, it falls apart, and it is delicious. I'm sorry but Flames you overcooked my tilapia. Other customers were incredibly helpful in what to order (more than the staff, who, to their defense was busy). The Rice and beans were perfect while the jerk chicken was just okay. My family and I used to go to Flames Mattapan a LOT but in the past year or so the food quality has declined. Such a pity because I prefer to just buy curry goat and ox tail as opposed to taking 2-3 hours to cook it. These days the food is high sodium and hot pepper, it makes me wonder what they are trying to cover up. Got a little taste of what was being covered up when I ordered a medium peas and rice with curry goat and plantain on of 5/24/12 at around 9:30pm. I got home, 5 mins later, and dished out a taste of what I ordered for my two children they refused to eat it. Hungry as I was, I ate quite a bit despite the food being laden with salt and hot pepper. At around 3am on 5/25 my stomach started to cramp and bubble and there began my episode of Flames induced FOOD POISONING! This experience will keep me away from Flames Mattapan. read more
