Absolutely delicious food truck at Checkpoint. The best truck there hands down! My husband loves the lamb and I'm into the chicken salad with hummus

Taqueria Los Pinos Taco Truck

Taqueria Los Pinos Taco Truck

While La Carreta de Mi Tierra (#1) has been quietly blowing up the taco street scene in Salem, just…read moreacross the street lies Los Pinos, an older, more traditional taco truck where tastiness and authenticity go hand in hand. Some would say this is the best street taco experience in the city, which is hard to argue, especially when the tacos are this good. Their tacos are around $1.50-$2.00 each, which beat the competition in terms of pricing but I trust this price will catapult in a very short time. Their version of carnitas are stewed and fried to perfection and their lengua / al pastor is fantastic. When available, their fish tacos are worth every dime, though they are a $1 more. It's not all tacos, they also serve a decent variety of burritos, quesadillas, and tortas. They're very good about stuffing every morsel of food into the tortilla / bread, which is abundant in its own right. Do not forget to use as much of their condiments to really enhance the flavor. Thankfully, it's never too busy here and the staff is super friendly. The last time I checked they were still cash only and parking is extremely limited. They've done well to attract a lot of local clientele, many of whom visit the truck during the late hours into the evening. There is some seating with these makeshift tables, but I prefer to take my food to go. When it comes to Los Pinos and their wonderful variety of street inspired food, everyone wins. _________________ (#1) https://www.yelp.com/biz/la-carreta-de-mi-tierra-salem

After all the previous good reviews I had to try Los Pinos today. My bf ordered four tacos (two…read morechicken and two tacos de lengua). The guy who took our order and put everything together was really nice and patiently listened to how we wanted the tacos and burritos - no beans, etc. First bite was close your eyes good. There is some kind of salsa poured over the tacos that made their deliciousness more delicious. Lots of cilantro and onion and almost like a gravy. Then there was the burrito. Oh man it was so good! We tore it apart in greed and burrito lust and panted in shame afterwards. But not so much shame that we didn't plot to return next week.

The interior is very eclectic & FULL of framed otter art & upside-down parasols grace the ceiling…read more The staff are very friendly! We ordered: The Pickle Gambit, Country Mac's Cajun Mac & Cheese, Mac's Famous Mac & Cheese, & the Cinnamon Roll Beignets. The pickle spears were lightly, yet crunchily breaded & piled high on a plate with yummy, dilly ranch & a second slightly smoky dipping sauce. Both Mac's featured perfectly-cooked shell noodles & decadent cheese sauce! The "reg" Mac had hearty chunks of bacon & fresh basil ribbons. The Cajun Mac was SUPER flavorful & had andouille sausage bites & VERY moist chicken tenders. The beignets were pillowy-soft & served with an amazing cinnamon sugar cream cheese drizzle.

We decided to try the Nashville chicken breast with hot chili oil on the side. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to spicy. I also ordered the lemon poppy seed slaw. Our friends got the salmon Chowdah and also some spicy chicken with Cajun fries. They remarked that the salmon chowder pronounced Chowdah looked to be quite thick and was very flavorful. I gotta say it was some of the best fried chicken I ever sampled. The slaw was very tasty as well. Great combination of savory and sweet. My daughter and I split an order of chicken as we wanted to sample the beignets. We ordered the Killa bees and they came out fluffy and hot with a very nice honey drizzle. Ryan also gifted us with a second order of beignets of our own choosing, and we asked for the Good God Lemon ones, and they were very sweet and tangy. For the five of us the bill came to right around a hundred dollars which being from California I found very reasonable. It's a small place, and you order first at the counter and then go and find a table. If you are looking for some very tasty chicken this side of Nashville you should stop by and order some at this unique place in Salem Oregon.
