    Chicken Katsu Bowl

I got the chicken katsu bowl, great price and great service! The guy working is so kind and the presentation of the dishes are quite nice. Ordering can be done at the tablet in the restaurant or on one of the delivery apps. It was very easy to order in person and you could clearly see what is in stock versus out of stock. Minor complaint that it gets busy during lunch so plan accordingly, about 30 minutes. There was also only one guy working at the time. I would still come again, to try other dishes, and this one, just not if I was in a rush.

Veggie roll, (I think) shrimp tempura roll, and I can't remember the name of the appetizer in the middle but it was delicious!

Great little new place near Main Gate at U of A. The prices are good, friendly service, and yummy food. We stopped by before a show at Centennial Hall and shared an appetizer and a couple of the sushi rolls. And, omg, the dessert -- so delicious! What a treat! 10/10 You order at a computer kiosk, which is really easy since it has prices and pictures. It might be card only, not sure.

Love the variety at Flakes. From Poki bowls, salads, apps to sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi, Flakes is delicious! Order at the counter on a computer and the chef will make your food to order. Location is excellent for u of a students or (like us) visiting a show at Centennial Hall. Very clean and friendly staff!

The food and service were amazing. It's only the owners who are working so service is a bit slow but they are so kind and sweet. They apologized for not speaking English well but even with their broken English, they are patient and communicate well!! I'm a salmon lover and their sushi is so fresh and delicious - no fishy smell/taste at all! Huge portions and they do not skimp on the fish. The menu and ordering tablet needs descriptions for each menu item. The place is new so the interior doesn't have much decoration and is a bit echoey but I imagine it'll improve as they gain popularity. The location is very nice! It's right on campus off of speedway and park - right below the apartments on park. They also offer Bingsu which I have to go back and try. Please give them a try and review them, I don't want such a good authentic place to go out of business :)

Unfortunately a lot of the avocado in our rolls was bad, we likely won't be ordering from here again ):

Delicious vegan sushi! Sweet potato tempura roll (no egg in tempura here) with fish free vegetarian eel sauce. Fried tofu roll.

This spot was really as great as can be! The man at the counter, I believe the owner, was super kind and eager to make it a great experience. He told me he intentionally has vegetarian and vegan options available. The tempura is egg free and the eel sauce is fish free. I had a sweet potato tempura roll with eel sauce and the tempura was fresh and crispy and stayed crispy in the roll. It was clear the sweet potato tempura was made fresh to order. I also had the fried tofu roll with eel sauce (no yummy sauce because it contains egg mayo). The tofu roll had avocado, cucumber, lettuce and pickled red ginger. The vegetables were fresh and he included an extra fried tofu piece that he didn't fit in the roll on the outside which I enjoyed having and appreciated. I would probably get the fried tofu roll without the pickled red ginger in. I didn't notice this roll had eel sauce inside and thought it would be on top and when I asked him about it and he happily jumped to offer more sauce if needed. He generally was very pleasant and kind. They seem to also have a nice outdoor seating area with cover. Inside is simple and clean. Order and pay is through a computer screen or via phone. I will absolutely come back here as it was probably the best egg free sweet potato tempura roll I had in Tucson and the prices are awesome at $6.79 for each of the rolls I got.

We LOVE flakes. Best sushi around !! Great service! The store has a lot of space and seating. It's truly my favorite restaurant in Tucson

The chef was very nice, sweet, and amazing. The food was excellent, a big upgrade from the sushi at the student union. Very delicious and the prices are pretty affordable for students! The atmosphere is pretty welcoming

    Aburi Salmon

Really kind chef making extremely affordable sushi with amazing fish quality in what is probably one of the best locations on campus. Strongly recommend in the nigiri section the "aburi" salmon which is flame-torched and adds a new level of flavor. I'll be a repeat customer. Vegan options//California rolls @ $4... you can't find that anywhere else. Or 3 order nigiri + rainbow roll for $20

This was not what we expected but the staff was friendly and 1/2 patrons at the food hall were eating sushi. The stalls have big energy today and lots of patrons are searching for a seat. Why not give them a chance? The menu is fairly varied for a small pop-up with traditional and deep fried sushi rolls. The female wait staff is handing out egg drop soup samples to everyone, ever those eating pizza and gyros. Looking around, these rolls are huge. We chose the Sonoran roll with shrimp tempora, spicy tuna, spicy crab topped with seared salmon and yuzu sauce. This roll was flavorful and spicy. Another roll was the Samurai with shrimp tempora, cream cheese, avacado wrapped in soy paper deep fried and covered with spicy crab / shrimp mix baked in a spicy aioli and eel sauce. This was our favorite roll with a pop in the tempora shrimp and an uncious taste coupled with a bite. Our third and final roll was the heart attack. Another spicy roll with shrimp tempora, avacado, cream cheese topped with jalepeno, spicy crab and chef sauce. Again, another good roll and a ton of food. This food mall is in an unassuming neighborhood with a smiling server who is hustling like crazy. The sushi was good, unique and tasty. It was a huge amount of food. Give this hard working staff and chance, she is enthusiastic and working hard. To the staff at Samurai Sombrero who are working hard and obviously, not a trained sushi chef. To the public, take a chance, give Samurai Sombrero a try and judge for yourself.

I opted for the #3 lunch special (3 pieces of sushi and a roll + miso soup) for $14. All reasonable, given that it's sushi, but I'll be honest, this still-growing-boy needed a bit more after that! The sushi itself was "ok" but the hand roll was terrific. Staff was attentive to all entrees and drinks (refilling my friend's diet coke 3 times!) and had zero problem with doing 4 separate checks too. Venue is simple and leans towards a subdued Asian-typical theme. Parking is easy and free in the shared strip-mall lot.

Feb 7 for two Hamachi Kamas ($16/each) and one Chirashi ($30) to go. These Kamas came with salad, miso soup, rice and half orange. Well salted and peppered to perfection. Chirashi was similar with abandon of fresh sashimis and rice. (see photos below) Their sushi boat ($59) is always a delightful feast for multiple people. Their servers are very friendly and attentive to all customers too. I highly recommend this restaurant to all sushi lovers. (Other Note: Ordered same dishes from Kazoku sushi on Feb 3rd because Sushi Cho was closed. Their Hamachi kamas were much smaller, charred, no garnishes and more expensive ($18). Their Chirashi ($35) sashimis are very fresh too, but not as much and not as many kinds as Sushi Cho.)
