I was walking through Downtown Livermore and stumbled upon Flaca's. The line was out the door, so I knew it was something to try. It's a small, to-go style shop with AMAZING tamales! Tamales are my favorite & I was so surprised I haven't been here already. I got 2 orders of pork and 2 orders of chicken tamales. As well as a bucket of the red sauce and spanish rice. The lady working the register was lovely, and provided me with the directions to warm the tamales when I was ready to eat them. I can't wait to come back to try their soup and famous tortillas!

It's a Mexican chain from AZ (popular I think, they have like 53K followers on Instagram), and they just opened multiple locations in Bay Area, so this time I decide to finally give it a try. I ordered the Tripa Mulitas, Torta, and Horchata drink, Mulitas was $7, Torta $14, and Horchata was $7. They're all delicious, I was actually shocked at the first bite because I didn't know Mexican food could be this great (like I ate at a lot of Mexican place before, but this place is just chef's kiss). You seriously have to try their torta!! It has grilled meat, cheese, avocado, lettuce and tomato, all packed in there. Together with their green sauce, red sauce and some of the onion & jalapeno salad, I'm good for the whole day. The flavors are just so authentic and hit the spot perfectly. I totally get why there is always a line now. They officially converted me into a regular from today! If you see a crowd, just jump in line, it's worth the wait.

The winners were the birria inspired tacos, loaded Filipino fries, Cajun shrimp skewer, ube cheesecake, and baked goods/desserts. Unfortunately the others had areas of improvement and left us wanting more. We had high hopes for more spicy & flavorful Jamaican food, richer Dubai chocolate strawberries, and actual calamansi the drink we ordered. Unfortunately I don't recall all of the businesses we tried from, you'll have to reference the pictures. Environment/Vibes: 4 out of 5 Cool vibes, picnic tables for seating, and a strategically placed porta potties and handwashing stations. The organizers did a great with how the venue was set up! Overall: 3.5 out of 5 I enjoyed this themed night market! Clearly I'm biased and prefer flavorful over Instagramable items. So far I prefer this food event over Foodie Land due to the mostly AAPI focused food vendors and shopping booths. Not going to lie the prices will be inflated since the vendors have to pay "rent" for the space they take up. Strategically go with at least 4-5 people so you can try different things. I thought a lot of the vendors did a great job with fusion inspired items.

We had it Sunday at the farmers market and again Thursday at the farmers market; it was that good! It's simple, not overdone. Which is perfect. Fresh ahi, sesame, avocado, onion, sauce. Over rice, or your choice of base. It's a little pricey but it is 100% worth it. When comparing to other poke places around, it's a little higher but the quality smacks those in the face, so it makes sense. The fish is so fresh tasting, melts in your mouth. Highly, highly recommend. So nice to have a nice light, refreshing food truck option in lieu of all the fried stuff. Plus, the guy who runs the truck is so friendly. So nice. Reminds me so much of being in Hawaii and getting that ohana treatment. The truck looks clean and well taken care of which makes me feel good about the cleanliness standards he holds. You also have to pay more just to get rice with your fish (if ordering a "poke boat") which feels like a rip off in my opinion. Ahi tuna ($14 for 1/2 lb) itself is solid and good quality for what it is in this area. The sauce is described as a sesame soy sauce with spicy mayo. It's on the sweeter with some savoriness, light on the sesame, and not so much salty. I do like the flavors, but the poke isn't marinated long enough for them to seep through the whole fish chunks. Has a very slight kick from the chili flakes.

The line was considerably long around 7:30 p.m. so it took a while for us to order and receive our food. I like that the tacos here are single tortilla -- as opposed to double tortillas, so the filling to tortilla ratio feels a lot more balanced. For both tacos, the meat is incredibly tender and flavorful. Although a bunch of sauces and garnishes are provided, the taco was good enough on its own. Of the sauces we received, my favorites to add was a squeeze of lime and the red sauce, which had a nice smokey Chipotle flavor and wasn't overly spicy. My friend ordered a quesadilla and it was absolutely massive! I definitely would only recommending ordering a quesadilla if you're sharing it, or if you're coming with a massive appetite. Even though my order wasn't ready till 10 minutes after my pickup time, staff was warm and friendly in our brief interactions on site, so I wasn't disappointed with the service. I tried four different empanadas from their menu. The mushroom, ham & cheese, and deep fried cheesy empanadas were super tasty, made fresh with quality ingredients, lots of flavor packed into a flaky shell, it's hard to pick a fave among these three. The deep fried beef empanada was my least favorite, the consistency was off, and I'm not even sure it was properly prepared or cooked all the way, as it was slightly cold, barely lukewarm, in the middle. The milder of their two sauces (huacatay) was indeed mild, lacking in any spice at all, it really didn't taste like anything to me. Luckily, the empanadas were good without it. Instead of just plain chocolate, their dark knight milkshake is a mountain of chocolate cake, chocolate fudge, and chocolate sprinkles, all on top of the chocolate gelato blend. And the grasshopper milkshake features peppermint and oreo cookies and crumbles, along with Andes mint candy (my fave) decorating the mint chocolate chip gelato mix. Too many tempting choices, but I had to go with the strawberry shortcake milkshake, made with fresh strawberries, whipped cream, angel cake, and topped off with chocolate fudge and crushed graham crackers... so many layers of flavor I just couldn't resist. As it turns out, the graham cracker crumbs are mainly for decoration, most of it pretty much glued to the plastic mug (not edible). And what shined in this dessert was the "shortcake", not the strawberry. Besides those 3 strawberries on top, I actually didn't get much strawberry flavor from the shake itself. Slightly disappointing, but like I said, the sponge cake and toppings were fresh and tasty, and the gelato wasn't bad, just lacking a sweetness and tartness that you get from actual strawberries, tasted almost watered down. Luckily, the presentation of the drink (served with both a spoon and straw) almost makes up for that. And I love that 50% of their profits go to charity. They're based in Atascadero, but travel to different events and festivals all over, currently at the fair in Pleasanton this summer.
