We were in downtown Pleasanton to pick up a cake from a local bakery. We managed to find a three-hour limit parking space and Cochina Mexico was directly across the street. I'm one to take advantage of a good situation but their listing didn't say anything about allowing dogs. My wife walked across the street to inquire and then came out and waved for me to bring the dog. There were at least ten tables in the outdoor area and only one was in use. We took a table and my wife went in to place our order after we looked at the menu online. I got a Chile Rellano Platter with Rice, Beans and Corn Tortillas. She got Two Tacos with Rice and Beans. We ordered unseasoned Chicken from a Chicken Taco for the dog. We split a Horchata to drink. Some tortillas Chips and Pico de Gallo were also supplied. The food was brought out to us pretty quickly. We recently had a grad party for my daughter. We did onsite catering of taco bar! The owner, Anthony did an awesome job explaining our options and customize to our needs. They were on time on the day of the event. Went above and beyond and stayed longer than originally agreed upon at no additional cost. They have a few tables inside, but I recommend planning to sit on the streetside patio. Great menu filled with all the usual suspects. I needed tacos, and they offer both soft and crispy shells. Yes, love the crispy the most. They have options of all types of meats, too. Yes, love the meats! And, AYCE chips and salsa, also YES! I opted for 2 tacos, no sides: Carnitas and chile verde. Been here twice now. Had the 3 flauntas, hot and crispy out of the fryer. Had the carnitas super burrito bowl with refried beans and delicious. Interesting menu items, not quite your usual taqueria. I had a kale salad. With shrimp and a tip, it set me back about $22 which is a little pricey for lunch. The ingredients were fresh and the salad was tasty, although a little on the small side. The pico de gallo could have used more onions, a little heat and salt, maybe some cilantro. Actually I could have skipped it all together and been just as happy. The red (medium) salsa was good, though. The place filled up pretty fast at lunch time. Service was decent. read more

I've eaten here about 10 times and have always enjoyed their food. It wasn't until today that I realize how solid the food really is. This is one of the rare spots that the whole family agreed on and that's saying a lot considering we have two teenagers. The staff is very accommodating to any questions or specifics needs on your order. I was so excited to see their keto taco plate today as I'm watching my carb intake. I was so surprised when I tasted my steak tacos to find that the tortillas were fresh and actually tasty. I often find that when you try to order the healthier option at fast food places, they aren't always fresh. We've tried their soups, burritos, crunch wrap and it's all tasty. Free chips and salsa are available as well. They have some tables outside so it's a great option if you have a dog. And their prices are good. There isn't many places in downtown Pleasanton that you can feed a family of four for under $100. read more

This Mexican restaurant has been here for years! I recently stopped in to pick up a burrito for my son on a farmers market Saturday. The owner opened promptly at 11:30 and welcomed me in with a smile. I ordered a regular burrito with carne asada, refried beans and added guacamole. It's been a while since my last review, so I thought I'd come back here with an update. Still five stars for me. But I appreciate that they made some noticeable changes. First of all, the chips and salsa bar are great. They got better bags! Lol... last time I wrote about how the bags were too skinny and it was difficult to load with chips. Second, they added keto tacos. I haven't tried them yet but they look delicious. I'll have to give them a shot. Lastly, have to shout out the young lady who works the cashier (with the blonde highlights). She is so friendly and professional. She works hard, but always has a smile. Delicious tender burrito with tons of flavor for a great price! The wet burrito was huge and drenched with salsa, so the whole burrito was flavorful and didn't dry out at all. The texture of the tortillas and meat were perfect melt in your mouth. I like how they include the pineapple with the Al pastor. I felt like the ratios of all the fillings was perfect. There's a self serve chip and salsa bar, but they will include it in your takeout bag too if you want! The staff was very kind and made sure I had everything I wanted! The salsas weren't super spicy, but they were still full of flavor. Even though the burrito was massive, I didn't feel gross after and didn't have acid reflux lol. Why the 3 stars? Missing items: our online orders included added guacamole for an extra dollar and it was missing (see example below). Didn't make sense to drive back 30 minutes for just that, but I hate when restaurants miss explicitly opted items. Other than that, a solid spot for Mexican food. We both wanted tacos, so we each ordered the Taco platter, which came with 2 tacos, rice, and choice of beans. I ordered the Al Pastor and Chile Verde and my wife ordered Pollo Asado. I had refried beans and she had black beans. We were both impressed. Delicious and the tacos had plenty of meat on them. The chips, salsa, and sauces were excellent too. They have carnitas nachos! My boyfriend and I were out running errands and he was craving some good nachos. I came across this place and it was perfect since you can get nachos with your choice of meat and add toppings like guacamole. The place was empty which could have been from the hot weather. It was semi-air conditioned inside and we ordered the nachos, enchilada plate & 2 horchata's. The place has self serve chips and salsa while you wait which I think was a nice touch and a plastic utensil dispenser. Our nachos came first and enchiladas came 10 mins after that. However our horchatas went missing, I asked for water after we got our nachos since we were still waiting on our horchatas. We waited 10 more minutes after all the food arrived to see if they were just behind but they were forgotten. The cashier apologized but I will just say it was kinda silly since we were the only customers inside. Excellent place for a nice outdoor end of summer dinner. Finally tried this place a few weeks ago, this was our 2nd trip. Nice atmosphere, relaxing and clean. Friendly atmosphere and staff. The first time I had the shrimp taco ala carte and chicken taquitos, hubby had chicken enchilada plate and guacamole. This time I had the shrimp tacos plate, delicious rice and beans. Hubby had the same enchiladas plate but this time added a shrimp taco ala carte as well. Too much food..... But that's okay. Definitely our new favorite place. Nothing fancy but they have good decent affordable Mexican food. I ordered the Ensalada Fresca which is kale, pumpkin seeds, avocado, queso fresco, sour cream... I didn't know it came with black beans. (Take out the beans and it would've been keto-friendly.) For an additional $3 you can ask for steak or chicken. I got carnitas. The salad was very filling and tasty. The dressing came on the side and it was good. Nice veggie to meat ratio! We also ordered burritos (huge!), enchiladas, and flautas. The dishes came out as you would expect = delicious! We stepped out today for Indian, but when we got there, the restaurant was closed. After wandering a bit, we decided on the taqueria we had seen on a side street while parking the car. Besides, we're still on our quest for the perfect taco. This place was a good choice. Tucked on a side street off of Main, and right across from a parking lot, Cocina Mexico is a delightful find. With a walk up counter for ordering, a small indoor seating section, and a naturally shaded outdoor patio, this place is a lovely lunchtime stop. Even with the 90 degree Pleasanton heat, we were comfortable under the large trees. Add to the ambiance some playful music (not your typical mariachi here), and it was a fun, uplifting vibe. Now for the food. My husband and I were split on our decision. He said it was a basic taco spot, not bad, not exceptional. I disagreed. We both ordered the two taco meal ($10 for two tacos, rice and beans with chips and salsa). I had the chili verde and the carnitas, with black beans and he had the Al Pastor and Chili Verde. We both agreed that the Chili Verde was nice. At first, it was a tiny bit bland (like it needed to stew in the sauce just a touch longer), but it was tender and there was a nice spicy finish (bordering on hot, but not out of control spicy). The carnitas, was, in my humble opinion, one of the best carnitas tacos I've had in a good long while. Packed with juicy flavor, tinged with little bits of crisp meat, it was satisfying and elicited my normal vocalizations of pleasure. I could have been better with the option to squeeze lime or the standard taco bar jalapenos/radishes/carrots. The beans were good, mildly seasoned, and just enough for a tasty side. (You can choose between pinto, refried, and black beans). The rice was also good, not at all mushy and with a nice flavor. Chips were perfectly crispy, not greasy and the salsa was ok. Our horchatas were delicious, not too sweet and made in-house. (Yay!) They have the usual Mexican sodas in a cooler and fountain drinks available. The food was served quickly, and was piping hot when it arrived. In all, we'll round back to try the other menu items... enchiladas and flautas for sure, along with the fish and shrimp tacos. Together we give this a 3.5 (him a 3, me a 4). Worth the stop. read more

My husband and I passed through Pleasanton on our way home looking for food and not too familiar with the area. We were starving, we wanted something good to eat and decided to visit Cocina Mexico based on yelp reviews and we were not disappointed! We ordered two carne asada super burritos and they tasted so good! Food was hot, fresh, complementary chips and salsa, salsa bar was nice and clean! Service was great, young lady who was cashier was very nice when we visited Sunday afternoon 3/26/2023. I love the location of the restaurant and I loved the art on the tables inside of the restaurant as well. I would definitely return and I hope our next visit we will be able to sit down and eat instead of getting food to-go.
