BrimiBue - Vin til fenikkel

Stopped by this restaurant on the way to Sogndal. If you enter from the entrance by the counter,…read morethe smell of wood fire from the fireplace will greet you. There is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Depending where you sit, you can get a pretty view of the mountains. BrimiBue did not have a menu in English available, but the staff were able to translate what they were serving. They had specials for the day, which on the day we visited, it was Taco Friday (Tacofredag). The menu was not extensive, but there were some vegetarian options. They also had a few desserts, which we did not try. Besides food, they sell a variety of items, such as teas, hand and body cream, and different kinds of jams, including cloudberries. Beverages offered are juices, beer, wine, and self-served water. We ordered the moose smørbrød (elgkarbonade) and the potato and celeriac leaves soup. We shared both foods and the meal was satisfying. However, the food did come with bread and butter, so if it weren't for that, we may have been a little bit more hungry. The moose smørbrød was a thick piece of bread, layered first with a spread mixture of sour cream and mustard, then greens, the moose pattie, sauteed onions and cherry tomatoes, sweet lingonberries, and finally, garnished with a generous amount of cress herbs. It was lip-smacking good. I savored every bite. The potato and celeriac leaves soup was simple, yet so delicious. It's essentially a pureed mixture of potatoes, celeriac leaves, seasoned with salt and pepper, with a touch of truffle oil, small pieces of fried onions, and garnished with a few croutons and cress herbs. The soup was perfect for a cold windy day. The soup was served with thick bread slices and a special kind of butter that looked like it had seeds in it. The butter was so good, I could have eaten a pound of this in one sitting. I wished I could have taken more of this butter home with me. This restaurant is a must stop if you're in Lom!

Lyst was recommended to us by our Airbnb host. We were in search of some good Norwegian staples and…read moreLyst delivered. The ambiance upon walking in is up scale casual. All tables were full, so we waited about 15 minutes to sit down. Upon sitting, our server immediately brought water. The menus are already on the table with entrees described in both Norwegian and English. Two of us ordered the Lyst Bacalao Gryte and two of us ordered the Gratinert Torsk and we ordered the fish soup and shrimp and seafood salad. All four items were delightful. The Bacalao is a traditional and popular food item in Ålesund. The cod was perfectly cooked in a tomato broth with vegetables and potato purée. The Torsk was also cod but served gratin with vegetables and bacon. The soup was rich and creamy and the salad was lighter, with crisp lettuce covered in small shrimp and smoked salmon. We left with full bellies, completely delighted by the food. Having eaten many places, I think this restaurant is in my top 10-15 restaurants ever! A MUST try when in Ålesund!!!

Had dinner there last night and it was okay, we just needed food after driving all day and it was…read morewithin walking distance of our hotel. I ordered the fish and chips based on the server's recommendation and it was food, nothing spectacular, but that is what I expected. My co-traveler had the Tex-mex (taco) salad and really liked her meal. I had been feeling excellent this entire trip until about 2 hours after this meal and then the vomiting started. It's now 8am and I am empty and feeling good again, but definitely won't be back. The funny thing was that the woman at the next table ordered it right after me and was told it was out, so where did they find mine? The atmosphere is casual and very nice, the servers were great. I don't like to write bad reviews, but when I get this sick so soon after I need to let them and others know.
