I was absolutely ecstatic to find out that Fixer had new owners and the company would live on. The handiman I worked with a couple of years ago was great, and their team came in handy for research on other projects. I recommended Fixer often (until I found out the company closed). I could not be more disappointed in the company's policy and concierges now. Although Fixer charges at least $150 more than six other estimates I got, I kept thinking, "But I know their work. I should just pay the higher rate." I was still hesitating because even their higher estimate sounded like it could increase based on the reason for the repair. When I read the Terms & Conditions policy on their website, there was nothing about a warranty on there. I decided to move on and seriously talk to the other six contractors who were contacting me. But the concierge followed up about my original request. I explained that the company having no warranty made me nervous because I could end up stuck paying for a job that needs to be redone. They heard me out and agreed to a one-year warranty as long as it was their workmanship. Although I still winced at the invoice just linking to their website where they could change the terms again any time they felt like it, I seriously considered them again. They confirmed that they would not match the price of one of the six contractors (who I decided not to work with because his LLC and invoice was sketchy). Fast forward to ONE DAY LATER and me realizing I could fix one repair myself (after speaking with another homeowner) and completing it yesterday evening. I decided to go ahead and hire them for the other, more-involved job. If the job was more expensive, so be it. At least I knew it would be with a company I could trust. And somehow, even though I agreed to THEIR higher rate and the potential that it could be higher, they backtracked on their own warranty agreement. It's like I'm being punished for having the audacity to shop around for cheaper contractors and having the wherewithal to fix one repair by myself. Shame on me, I suppose. After a bunch of back and forth and them backtracking on their own DOCUMENTED price that I'd already sent to the insurance company, I threw in the towel. I will hire someone else. Truly a garbage company. You would think that a company offering repair services at a set price per hour and easy scheduling would be a dream come true. Absolutely not. I booked Fixer to do multiple repairs on my home as I recently moved to another state and was preparing my home for a new tenant. The Fixer that was assigned to my home was: 1) awful at communication to my property manager 2) bypassed nearby hardware stores and took over an hour to "shop" which cost me $140 alone. 3) I had to cancel the other jobs I scheduled because at the rate he was going the 1-2 hr estimation jumped to 5-6 hrs which would've cost more than originally planned 4) the contractor disclosed to my property manager that he was unlicensed (Fixer advertises on their website that contractors were licensed) 5) Didn't even finish the 1 job he had before he left. I was charged nearly $440 for unfinished work for 1 job. It wasn't until I reached out to Fixer via email to figure what actually happened since it wasn't communicated. They explained to me that it was actually a two-day job and the Fixer would have to return. When were they going to tell me that? And I booked this service on that particular day for a reason because of the limited availability to have someone on-site for hours while we're not there. They gave me two options after I expressed my dissatisfaction and frustration: 1) they'll charge me a prorated rate for the unfinished work or 2) they'll come back at another time to finish the work and I won't be charged for the 2nd day which I really didn't have a choice but to choose. I couldn't leave the work unfinished or I'd have to find and pay someone else to finish their trash work on top of paying Fixer. The only ways to speak with this company is via text or email. If you call the number they ask you to text, it only gives you an option to leave a message and never an opportunity to speak to a representative. The customer service is truly ridiculous. Finally, when I could have someone on-site for a full day, I went to schedule a time to have the work completed and was told I had to pay the full amount prior to having a Fixer return to finish what they originally left undone! They are scheduled to come in a few weeks and I pray to God that my experience isn't as awful as the first. Drywall texturing might be a bit more specialized/dependent on local experience than other handyman type jobs. After an initial drywall fix fell short of agreed scope, fixer had a follow-up worker come by to make a more reasonable match of the texturing, at their expense. Pros: -Responsiveness on Communication - The service was the first to respond for my bid on a drywall job, which was good. -Availability - If you need a quick/emergency repair for which you aren't handy, this may be a good option. Seattle tradespeople aren't always super-available - Fixer has recently been bringing in some folks temporarily from Chicago to help bolster their team here. -Friendly Attitude - All the fixer staff I have interacted with have been friendly/polite. Cons: -Expertise - Fixer's workers are generalists, who have a stock set of tools, but do not specialize in any particular trade. They provide folks with some baseline training, but the company takes jobs for a variety of tasks, meaning folks may not be super well practiced on details of any particular kind of job. E.g. Both of the fixers that came to my place didn't were not particularly experienced with orange-peel drywall texturing(which unfortunately is semi-common in Seattle area condos), as opposed to Flat drywall. -Pricing model/Warranty - Look on their website to make sure you understand their model. Normally, Fixer charges an hourly rate. In my case, the work took longer than quoted due to questionable assumptions an initial worker made. Fixer did reach out with me to try improve on the key issues with the flawed repair at their expense which helped, but I don't take that as a guaranteed thing. -Scheduling/Timeframe- My appointments got cancelled/postponed at least a couple times due to earlier jobs running over. I believe they offered a $25 credit for future work with each of those cancellations. My experience: Initially - I had a drywall repair and texture matching job to replace a number of holes cut by an electrician. The initial fixer decently repaired most of the patches themselves, but one large square section at eye level had an obvious recess of 1/4 inch from the surrounding wall, which he thought was fine. When I brought up the problem, he commented the electrician should have shimmed the drywall out. The screws for the patch which the fixer was hired to repair were accessible when he started. He spent time applying a veiny sponge effect, where my walls have a orange peel texture which is sprayed on. It didn't make for a good match. My reason for bidding this work out, rather than attempting it myself was I wanted someone who could make repairs that would blend in well. After I shared my feedback, fixer reached out afterwards, and we agreed to have another follow come by to try to correct things. The second fellow applied some drywall mud to flatten out a section of visibly recessed drywall, and sanded + applied orange-peel texturing to get a less obvious contrast between the textures. To sum up: A lot of work the fixer company does makes sense for generalists/handymen to take on. In my view, the textured drywall repairs requires experience and attention to detail to recognize potential issues early, and a practiced hand to do quality work. The availability of services was also great, and finally, the quality of the work was commendable. Very well-done, no complaints whatsoever. And the reasons why I would urge you to take your business elsewhere: 1) The company definitely has a "startup" vibe and as a result, we couldn't get anyone on the phone. After multiple attempts. The texting service Walk's through payment, scheduling, and any changes or updates. After scheduling me a few days later a new appointment time opened up and the texting service alerted me and I made the appointment for the new time. Professional: fixer had two people come. As soon as they checked in, I received an email/text that said the people had checked in and their estimate for job length. This is my 3rd time giving Fixer a try. I haven't been overly impressed before- but generally they are responsive and fast, so I decided to give them a try again. I own a salon in Lincoln Park, and I needed some lightbulbs and track light heads replaced. The ceilings are quite high, otherwise I would DIY- but I don't have a ladder that tall. So I requested Fixer to come. After they arrived (they sent 2 people) I was given a quote of 2.5-4 hours. Well, lucky me- they actually finished in 1.5 hours! (Approximately 40 minutes of that was shopping at the Home Depot 2 blocks away). Imagine my shock when I received the bill, and was billed for 3.5 hours of labor PLUS an additional 40 minutes of shopping! The "support" I received over email is laughable, and as other people mentioned- when you call you get no answer. I was told that there was an extra charge because there were 2 fixers (ok, fine- but I wasn't informed of this prior to the appointment). Also- I simple do not understand why I'm being charged for EXTRA TIME when the appointment just didn't take that long. I have text messages to back this up, and shared it with the person via email. Then their reply was "We're going to give you a COURTESY refund of half an hour." Excuse me, but inaccurately charging me for more time than the appointment took and only giving me a quarter of the payment back isn't a courtesy- it's fraud. Update: Fixer did reach out to me and try to remedy the situation, and I was refunded for an additional hour of time. Please be aware that they are charging their hourly rate AS WELL AS an additional shopping hourly rate. So you're basically getting double charged to have them go to Home Depot. Jeff came as promised and contacted me. He was a clear communicator, accessed the price and completed the job. He texted the finish photos. They have a user friendly web sight where you can see the details of your job and pay your Bill. They charge 119. Per hour. If you have them out only to assess the job, it is 119. Good experience with this team! First, i don't think you'll find a more integrated user experience when chatting with them. They communicate mostly by text and have a sound internal system to track your conversations and requests. I called them out to install a custom barn door my farther made for me. My team, Louis M and Toufik B, worked well together. It was a long process to figure out how to install a custom barn door with a rail kit that I ordered, in a 100 year old building. Though there were some tricky issues along the way, these guys found a way to do it! In one of the last steps, the excess rail needed to be sawed off with a special electric saw. They realized they didn't bring the right tool to finish the job. I appreciated that the teamed turned off the clock to go run to their shop and pick up the tool to make it perfect. I have used Fixer twice for various jobs around my new home. I had two Fixers come each time, and each time I found the Fixers to be easygoing and pleasant to work with. However, I have found the work quality to be hit or miss (I had to have a job done by the first set of Fixers re-done by the second set of Fixers) and I struggle with the business model. Because they charge by the hour, there doesn't always seem to be a real incentive to work quickly. The second go-round, I was initially charged over $900 for, essentially, hanging towel bars, hanging pictures, and installing several plant hooks in the ceiling. Second, most things are automated and you have to be careful about the billing process. The first time I used them I was sent a bill for a service that wasn't performed because the Fixers were running behind and ended up not being able to do the work that day. Still, I received a bill. The second time, I received a bill that was not adjusted for the picture frame one of my Fixers inadvertently broke after she hung it incorrectly. Both times, the issues were resolved after I emailed and texted with the company (phone calls don't even seem to be an option), but if I'd had a credit card on file, I assume I would have just been charged automatically, and I had to be proactive about addressing problems that weren't of my making. I appreciate the convenience of the service and I'm willing to pay a bit more for a company that pays its people well--assuming that's what it does. But between the excessive expense and the various issues I've had with billing, workmanship, and timeliness, there won't be a third try for me. Good luck ya'll. read more

I found Fixer by searching Yelp reviews of local contracting companies. Overall, I would say my experience wasn't terrible, but I left underwhelmed with the experience. I had a pesky window frame that needed to be repaired and I was struggling to find someone who could help within a reasonable timeframe. I chose Fixer because the reviews seemed fairly consistent and they seemed to have the most availability. When it came to scheduling, they have options that say you can request a timeframe of 6-7 CST on weekdays, but then you get a text from their system saying they typically only book 7AM-3PM. Their 6-7 CST appointments was a factor that led me to choose them for services. I found out later that on rare occasions there can be some appointments that fill that time slot (as well as weekends). I wound up choosing the earliest available appointment window of 7AM-8AM where a worker would arrive. Come to the day of the appointment, I get a text saying the worker Miguel was on their way at 7:03AM. Come 7:45AM, still no update and I started calling/texting the numbers that had communicated with me. They knew that Miguel was not coming and had not communicated this issue with me until I started texting. It was very frustrating that they knew he was not coming, yet they did not communicate this issue to me earlier. They sent another worker (named Beck) out at 8:08AM and Beck did show within 20 minutes of this time. The window frame fix took less than 20 minutes. So I suggest that if you book them, try to have a few tasks in mind that they could work on because they charge a minimum of an hour (and the cost was expensive). Admittedly, I didn't know how long the window fix would take so I didn't think having additional tasks through very well. Beck was polite and kind when I spoke about my issues and suggested I reach out to management. Beck also said this issue has happened with appointments scheduled with Miguel before. About an hour later, a manager named Jayme reached out to me and informed me that they have an automated text that goes out the morning/time of your appointment that says a driver was leaving. They are aware of that if a driver calls off, the message still goes out. Jayme was apologetic and gave me a discount for the issue I experienced. However, I was really disappointed that they knew about this automatic text issue and did not reach out to me when they knew Miguel would not be able to keep the appointment. Overall, I get that issues happen. The company owned up to their mistakes and remedied the best they could. Truly appreciate that. Given the experience, I think I am going to try a few other contracting companies. I'm not going to rule Fixer out completely, but I felt the pricing was truly a bit steep unless you have a few things for them to fix within the hour. First time using the service and safe to say it'll never happen again. $900 for unfinished and candidly bad quality work. My mistake was not realizing I wasn't hiring an actual electrician - turns out you're paying a premium for easy to book services, not for professional grade work. Work involved installing an outlet and light wall plate from downstream outlet. During the first visit (which cost $200 for assessment and doesnt get discounted off actual job if hired) we agreed on going the "easy route", which fixer seemed very confident and comfortable with - come to find out later on that easy apparently translated to 6-9 hrs - ($800-1200) - not communicated until the day of service, via text, an hour after theyd started the work! - electricians had quoted about $400, had i known ahead of time i would've definitely passed). To make matters worse, fixer apparently chose to use the countertop-less base cabinets as a normal platform for installation (cabinet install was due to be finished the next day, hence why the outlet was getting installed then) -- and ended up breaking the front stretcher. Tried telling me it was no big deal and should and acted like it was a $2 wall plate that was broken. Said he wouldn't bill me for the "repair". and yet when the invoice came at 4pm - i was billed for 6hrs - he'd gotten here at 9, had left for almost two full hours in between tasks, and repairing that took him at least an hour and a half - so, so much for "not charging him for something he broke himself". On top of that, when i went to connect the outlets in the electric boxes he installed (because he didnt have tiem to actually install the outlets) - turns out the boxes are not even secured correctly in wall, are super flimsy and feel liek they'll give in if i so much as press the drill too hard........ also for some reason eh spent a good chunk of time reinstalling the already installed outlet to be vertical instead of horizontal for no apparent reason? (outlet was fully functional and it wasn't part of my job request) Again, if you're considering this for electric work, keep in mind that in my case a professional could've done the work in half the time (and actually finished) and without ruining my brand new kitchen cabinets that i had to pay the installers to repair - i understand that an electrician will be more "efficient" for obvious reasons, but at the price per hour if the work will take 3x as long, might as well go with an electrician. After seeing what was done and after many of my electric code questions going unanswered, i might end up spending even more money to have an electrician look over what was done and ensure this was done correctly because even if i normallt wouldn't question it, the whole experience leaves me to wonder. worth saying that in regards to pros... company has a great web interface and overall scheduling system, they're super responsive to requests when scheduling a job, and offer great flexibility. Several times over the past 5+ years I used Fixer for projects with no issues. However, in the past 2 months have tried to use them 3 separate times and have had terrible experiences each time. Extreme delayed worker, forced rescheduling with just an automated text. You can NEVER get anyone to respond or answer calls. One visit where fixer did arrive, took several hours longer than estimated. I tried to encourage the fixer to call for assistance but paying over $300 to have a faucet installed is beyond unreasonable. I had a longer list of items that i just cancelled on site to get the fixer off the clock. If someone does arrive, they will be late to be prepared to wait or reschedule to their time. We made an appointment with Fixer during a weekday, for which my wife stayed home from work. 15 minutes after the time they were scheduled to arrive, we received a text saying that they wouldn't be able to keep the appointment, asking us to reschedule and offering a $50 discount. My wife makes well over $50 a day!! This bad news was sent via text and after I responded and prompted a reply, we heard no more from them. I needed an old thermostat removed and the wall patched and repaired. Fixer responded to my inquiry immediately and I found numerous available slots. I scheduled for 9am on a Saturday and my fixer showed up right on time. He was very fast and completed the job in less than an hour. The finish on the patch was completely smooth and I was able to easily complete the touch up painting on my own 24 hours later. Looks great! This past winter, our pipes froze so we had to cut a hole in the wall in order to access the pipes. Months went by and we kept putting off getting the hole patched. The Evanston Moms FB page had recommended Fixer so I reached out and they were able to respond quickly and with a competitive quote. They did a great job patching the hole, were very quick and quiet, offered to take off his shoes and wore a mask, and at the end of the day, the guy pointed out my walkway had both a dead bird and a dead mouse (eww) which he offered to dispose of if I could get him a bag. I told him I would take care of it but I really appreciated his kind offer and going that extra step to do something completely unrelated. The best part? They cancelled twice in one day via text after the scheduled arrival time, wasting my day off from work. The finally showed up on the 3rd scheduled time, did a pretty good job on the door install, after they left I noticed the randomly screwed a glide into the floor. The glide was supposed to go under the door to keep it in place per the instructions. They decided it would be good to place it in the door opening where you can easily stub your toe. I had a very poor experience with fixer. I needed some non gcfi outlets replaced with gcfi outlets. Fixer said they could do this job, but it was clear that was not the case. I had purchased outlets, which it turned out were too thick for the shallow outlets in my home. This was not the tech's fault at all, however instead of just telling me that he spent two hours attempting to get them to fit. He did install two, one of which does not work and the other one is gaping out from the wall. I had bought a multi pack of outlets which I now can't return because two are used. I now have to pay an electrician to fix the messed up outlets in addition to installing the others. Fixer did reduce my bill, but given I got nothing out of it and also can't return the box of outlets essentially it cost me a few hundred dollars for nothing. Update: An actual electrician confirmed one of the two outlets actually installed was done improperly causing the outlet not to work. read more

Note: I have put the same below review on Google a week back, they responded in the comments that they will review my appointments but no one has reached out to me so far to understand why they provided such a bad service. Probably this is their business model, if they do a bad job then just ignore that customer and their review and just move on. I have have used fixer in two of my houses and had the same issue with both these places 1. At one house I wanted sink faucet to be replaced. 2. At another house wanted deadbolt to be replaced. Let me tell each case in detail 1. At place 1 kitchen faucet was leaking and the issue was with the facuet pipe wire, and the fixer went and brought a replacement, while keeping the shopping clock run. Guess what, he brought a wrong pipe, and he could not fix it. And I was charged the whole amount for 1 hour of work plus shopping time, while the issue was not fixed. While I passed it off and left without complaining. 2. I booked them again for my another house to replace deadbolts in my door. Guess what, the fixer brought the wrong product and spent lot of time fixing that wrong deadbolt on my door, while I was charged for the time and also for shopping. Since he could not fix it, he came the next day with another fixer and fixed it. Again I was charged for the next days hourly effort. This time I complained because it costed me almost 400$ (excluding the cost of the deadbolts) to get the deadbolts replaced. I have never had such expensive deadbolt replacements in my life, I had to argue with them to get the price reduced, and they gave me a paltry 25$ to 35$ discount. Pathetic way to bleed customers money. I would not recommend fixer to anyone. And BEWARE new/existing customers, if they bring wrong products, talk to them to cancel your entire charge, if not you will end up paying 400$ instead of 139$. read more

Have been using fixer for various projects and all turned out great. We normally batch a number of small jobs for one visit and folks who came always know what to do. Although a bit pricier than independent handyman they are easy to schedule with and reliable to work with on various jobs. read more

I've used Fixer to work on a couple of things around my house and they've been fine with basic handyman work. However, my most recent experience has been a nightmare that I have to share with the community. I had a porch swing that needed to be rehung. I asked before booking Fixer if this was within their scope and they said that it was. The handyman they sent was clearly in over his head, unable to complete the task, and actually ended up causing damage to my porch roof. When I asked Fixer to evaluate the damage and work on a solution, they sent another handyman out to simply rehang the swing instead of evaluating the damage caused by the previous staff member. After I sent Fixer photos of the damage, they insisted that the damage was already there or caused by someone else and not their employee. This is a common tactic from companies that frankly aren't trustworthy and I was surprised they responded this way. As a return customer, I was disappointed by the lack of accountability from Fixer. Unfortunately, when something goes wrong with their work, Fixer will refuse to take responsibility and leave you holding the bag for repairing damage their employees caused. Please look for other handyman services and avoid this company. read more

I have not used a handyman service in quite some time. I looked at Yelp and wrote to two different services and decided to go with The Fixer. Pedro showed up and did a fabulous job. He was quick, efficient and personable. I had a varied list and he was able to complete everything! I'm going to request him again as I need some additional work done in the near future!. read more

Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience with Fixer recently. I hired them to install my kitchen backsplash because I saw the reviews on here, as well as one from a friend of mine that personally used them for tile work. I provided them with pictures of the work that needed to be done, advised them that I had a wet saw and all tools and products needed to complete the job, just needed someone with the expertise to do it. I was quoted 3-4 hrs for the backsplash installation, with 1-2 hrs for putting in the grout. I opted out of them applying the grout and decided to do that myself once they were finished. I was tight on cash and Fixer provided the best quote, so I went with them. On 10/23, the fixer showed up on time and ready to work. I gave him three options to set up the wet saw. He decided to use our garage. He got to work, and 3 hrs in he still hadn't had any tile on the wall. I asked him if this would take longer than the 3-4 hours I was quoted and he told me he thought I knew it was going to take longer and the dispatch should have told me. I told him to stop working because I wasn't prepared to pay for more time. He said it would take more than double of what they quoted me to finish. I spoke with the manager John who said he would look at the transcript and see if was an error in their side. He called me back and told me it was and that they would finish the job for the amount quoted. I was satisfied with this, so I told the Fixer to continue, even let him speak to the manager John to confirm. There are multiple tiles without spacers, which make each tile visibly uneven. Some of the cuts made on the tile are even visible when the covers for the outlets are on. The entire run above the stove isn't level and they used unnecessary tile behind the stove, even though I provided a piece of wood to hold the tile up so we wouldn't have to waste any tile. There was also mortar left on multiple tiles as well as the wall, where no tile was laid. The mortar for the tile is be dry by now, and it doesn't seem like anything can be taken off, so it will have to be chipped off or something. Overall this experience has been terrible. Not only was I quoted incorrectly, but I am out 400 dollars for the time I was willing to pay for, and I am out on the tiles used that will have to be taken off due to poor installation. read more

When the workman, Joe, arrived and realized there would perhaps not be enough time to finish the job, he immediately found another worker, Michael, who arrived quickly. First time i used this service. I needed some drywall repair in the kitchen in a condo that i own. Mice were coming in and invading the kitchen cabinets. Steve D. arrived on time, was super friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. He basically mouse-proofed the cabinets and located what we believe is the source of the infiltration (a hole in the outer wall in a void of the cabinetry below the countertop). 6 dead mice in the void as well as a GIANT mud dobber next that was covering the hole. He removed the nest, vacuumed up the mice and detritus inside, and sealed up the hole. He advised on mouse trap placement in case they were actually living in the cabinetry (yikes)! He gave great, sensible advice and was done in the allotted, with no mess. Definitely worth the money. I will be using Fixer and Steve D. for any future projects i might have. read more

The repairs were done quickly and professionally. This was much easier and quicker than I thought. Prices are great and they are very transparent about costs. Definitely recommend!
