I noticed a post on Nextdoor asking for handyman recommendations. There were a bunch of replies, but only 5 that seemed to match my criteria. I did research online for those 5. There was only 1 that had what I was looking for in a handyman company. Included in my list of requirements was BBB registration, insurance to protect customers and very positive reviews on all the main sites (Angi, Yelp, Google, etc.). It was also important that the 'company' be more than one person and have experience in the projects that I was interested in doing. Only one of those companies checked all the boxes: Welter Home Services. I called them and spoke with Kevin about our current and future needs. We had 3 projects. I wanted to do one to be sure I was pleased with their work (I was) before starting the other two. Kevin explained what labor and materials we needed to complete the job. He provided a detailed estimate with all materials and labor stated. Our first project was the replacement of a kitchen pantry door - including the whole door frame, hardware and trim. This required removing the old door, frame and trim - and painting the new door, frame and trim. On the agreed upon date, a Welter HS employee showed up at our door exactly on time. He was very pleasant and helpful. He completed the project, checked his work and made some touchups where the appearance as not "perfect", then did a great job of cleaning up the area he had worked in. We are very pleased with Welter HS and the work they completed for us: on time and for the price they quoted. We are moving forward with the next two projects and are looking forward to getting them completed with the same quality and professionalism that they applied to this first project. read more

Kevin is top notch. Very clear communication, trustworthy, followed through on time/schedule and did a fantastic job completing a new frame, and door installation at my condo. He offered several advice on my home as we were exploring other work. Highly recommended and I am glad I found a gem of a person and a company to work with. The prices are also quite reasonable for the high quality of work done. read more

Kevin is knowledgeable in many areas of the home. He replaced my hose spigot and did some work to my sump pump. Nice and trustworthy guy! Would highly recommend! Fairly priced. read more

We hired Welter a year ago to do a temporary fix on a pocket door that was becoming difficult to operate. We knew it was temporary, but selected the least expensive option at that point. The work was excellent and included replacing trim around the outside of the door. Fast forward a year, and the door was difficult to use again. We called Welter and quickly set up an estimate date, and just as quickly, set up the fix date once we received the estimate. On the appointed date, the repairman arrived, and within four hours, he had peeled off paneling and trim, installed a new track for the door, replaced the paneling and cleaned up. Of course, it was more complicated than that. The handyman was personable and professional. When he showed me the finished work, I couldn't tell he had even pulled the trim and paneling off. He was extremely careful around our reclaimed barnwood ceiling. The only way we knew the handyman had been here was that the door works beautifully now. I would highly recommend Welter and we will use them again. read more

Remodeled my bathroom and it looks gorgeous. Very easy to work with and made suggestions that made it even better. Highly recommend.

Never returned 3 attempts/calls/voicemails for over 20k in needed remodel in ArlHts. Must be too busy. Or not in business anymore. ***

I needed someone to help with repairs on a condo I have and Welter was quick to respond and get someone out to resolve the problem. I definitely will reach back out to them if I need repairs in the future. read more

I needed basement plumbing and a wash tub replacement to be done. I decided to call Welter Home Services after reading their great Yelp reviews and their location to my home. I can tell you that I was never disappointed in any phase of the job-from my first contact, the cost estimate, the exceptional service, work and overall professionalism that Kevin provided. Thank you Welter Home Services!!! read more

The services provided by Welter Home Services were excellent. The work consisted of cleaning baseboard radiators, which hadn't been cleaned in years, and then doing the plastering and painting that was damaged by taking the radiators apart. The worker was prompt, professional, and friendly. He discussed his approach, and used the paint we had rather than have us buy more. Everything was done extremely well and we enjoyed having him here. We've used Welter Home Services a number of times and will certainly use them again when projects are beyond our skill levels! read more

Kevin was very professional, knowledgeable and accommodating. Took great care in protecting the areas and cleaned up afterwards. Would definitely recommend. read more

We have used Welter Home Services for several projects over the past few years. They are always professional, clean, and provide expert service. I used Welter Home Services to pick up a new dishwasher in Arlington Heights, and bring it to my home in Mt Prospect for installation. They were prompt, professional and took their time to get the old unit out. It was a difficult job, because a new floor had been put in earlier, so there was literally no room to work with to remove the old unit. They did a great job the right way and at a great price, too. I will definitely use them again! read more

Kevin was a pleasure to work with. We had some damage to our kitchen and bathroom from a leaky pipe and had Kevin out to do the repairs. I couldnt be happier with the work he did. He was knowlegable, friendly and got the job done. He worked with my schedule to get the drywall and bathroom tiles replaced quickly even with the Thanksgiving holiday mixed in there. He was able to come out to our house and give us an estimate and tell us exactly what he was going to do, how long it would take, and how much it would cost. He finished the work within the time and budget quoted. Our kitchen and bathroom look like there was never any damage to begin with. I would definately recommend Kevin and will use him in the future for all our home improvements and repairs. read more

Kevin and Dan did excellent work partially remodeling our master bathroom. It looks fantastic! Hard to schedule an appointment for even a simple estimation. Exchanged 15 ish emails to get on the schedule, scheduled for 3 weeks out, I confirmed last week and unfortunately Welter cancelled the appointment the day before. So much wasted time - they must be too busy for new business. read more

Kevin will soon be doing phase two of repairs for me. Phase one was amazing. I gave him a list and he and his team blew threw tile, doors, plumbing, etc. The processes were all explained and he is professional in all communications. You are going to hire an ethical pro here, what else can you ask for. He will make 100% sure you are a happy camper when all s done too. Again, his work is so good, I hired him back for round 2. I am selling my home and only trust him to repair the things needed to make it ready for market. read more

Best All Around Fix-it Guy! I called Kevin because paint was falling off the ceiling in my bathroom....he knew exactly what I was talking about and said it was no problem to fix! He came out on a Monday and with all the tools and paint ready to get the job done! A few hours later my bathroom looked like brand new! He had his own vacuum and sucked up every bit of dust...he also wiped everything down with Windex! My bathroom looked cleaner then before he did the work!!!! I felt so comfortable with him in my home....I was able to leave and run errands without thinking twice about it! He told me the price up front, was honest and I trusted him fully! I just can't get over how clean and neat he was! He is a young, smart and respectable man! He even gave me tips on how to fix little things around my house myself! I will defiantly be using Kevin again and will call him for referrals for everything...if he can't do it...he has a friend who can! Thank you Kevin for fixing the huge eyesore that was causing me so much grief! read more

Like most 50-year-old houses, my parents' home needed some fixing up. I made a punch list and called Kevin. He came out and gave me a very reasonable estimate, and did an excellent job on the home repairs. Kevin is very knowledgeable. He takes pride in his work and also takes the time to explain different options for approaching a particular job. I plan to hire Kevin again for some home upgrades. One of my parents' neighbors has since hired him for a woodworking project, and she has been very satisfied as well. Kevin has become our go-to guy for home repairs and upgrades. I highly recommend him! read more

Based on reviews from others, I guess they may be good. But in my case it did not go well at all from the start, or I should say it did not even start. We have small but multiple lighting and rewiring projects to be done at my residence and asked them for an estimate. They responded my online inquiry promptly and asked more information including taking pictures, which was the first week of September. After a few days of no action, I asked for update on estimate, and the office manager responded and said to me it would take two-three weeks because they have to sort out their October scheduling at that point. I simply trusted her words and waited for two weeks, but no response. I again contacted them to see what's going on, and they said they were going to look at it. A week past after that and again no response. Finally I told them its has been almost a month since I asked for estimate, and now the owner replied that he would look at it. As of today, there has been no response since. They just lost a potential customer that was ready to hire, who was even considering them for future projects we have been planning. It is unfortunate because most of reviews here are good, which was the mainly reason I waited for such long period to just get an ESTIMATE. It would have been nice if they let us know our projects are too small for them and they would not take it, rather than leaving a potential customer high and dry. read more

Spoke with Kevin for 1/2 an hour to explain some projects I'm interested in getting quotes for. Caulking a small area in the bathroom, clean and/or paint a brick fireplace and my main issue finding the source of a leak. He asked my availability to come over and look at these things and said he would check his calendar and call me the next day. It has been 3 weeks and no word from him. I'm guessing these projects were things he wasn't interested in doing. read more

I emailed & spoke with Kevin regarding adding an electric car charger in the garage. He went above and beyond in explaining my options along with providing a bit of education on the topic along with discussing the pros and cons of various configuration options. The call lasted about 15 minutes and I was left well informed of my next steps. His quote was also in line with what others charge. read more

I was very happy with the work done by Welter Home Services. Kevin was easy to reach and communicate with, especially given how busy they are. Kevin and Dan put in a garbage disposal (including all necessary wiring/switching) and new closet doors for us, and we will be using them to re-tile our bathroom floor as soon as we decide on tile. They also replaced a shut-off valve for the kitchen sink, and when our main supply valve to the house got stuck (common on older houses), Kevin quickly coordinated a licensed emergency plumber and the Village Public Works department, to get the water shut off at the street and the main supply valves replaced immediately. I highly recommend them and wouldn't hesitate to use them again. read more

I hired Kevin to do a little bit of everything: replacing the kitchen sink, repairing drywall in multiple rooms, fix up the trim & re-paint the master bedroom.....you name it, I asked for it. After he came out to do an estimate, I was very impressed with how quickly I received a quote for his services. He arrived on time on both days (the work took no more than 2 days to complete), cleaned up afterwords, and when the work was complete, he walked me through everything that had been done and asked me if I was satisifed with the work he had done.....I feel like I was walking into a brand new home!!! I highly recommend Welter Home Services and will be calling him in the future for any other home improvements projects that are on my to-do lists!!! Thank you Kevin!!! read more

We hired Kevin and his team to handle some extensive drywall patching throughout our house. The crew was very professional and prompt, finishing the project on schedule and with the quality work that we expected. One of the best things is that they did an outstanding job cleaning up all of the dust and debris from the drywalling, which is not something that all contractors take the time to do. It's nice to work with a reliable company that offers a wide range of services, and we are planning to hire Welter again for future jobs. I would recommend Welter for any type of home repair. read more

Kevin is the best, I call him for any type of handyman work I need. He's always on time, does a good job and charges a fair price.

I wish I had found this company sooner. I bought a townhouse last year and have had a list of to-do's a mile long since moving in. I had no idea where to start. Now, I'm getting ready to move again and will be putting the townhouse up for rent. With a week left before moving, I desperately started searching for someone to help complete my to-do's. To be honest, I didn't even know handyman companies existed, I thought people just knew a guy. I am so happy to have found Welter Home Services, they are now my "guy" and I will recommend them to anyone who will listen. Kevin contacted me very soon after I submitted an inquiry on Yelp. My desperation must have come across in our conversation because he was able to get me in his crowded schedule right away! His rates are extremely reasonable and the quality of service is worth every penny. Handyman Dan arrived at my house right when Kevin said he would. Dan is impressive. He's a very friendly guy with a huge amount of talent, I don't think there's any task he can't handle. And, best of all, he's a master at multitasking - the guy doesn't know the meaning of downtime, no dilly dallying with Dan! Some of the tasks Dan completed for me include: mounting and testing a dishwasher, fixing the rolling mechanism and rescreening a sliding patio door, removing an old garbage disposal and installing a new one, correcting a drywall patch that someone else had done poorly, figuring out how my fireplace works and testing it out, stainblocking water stains in my ceiling, mounting a cabinet in my garage, and looking into a problem with my refrigerator. There may have been more to the list, but that's all I've got off the top of my head. I seriously thought this would easily be a 6-8 hour day, I was doubtful when Kevin quoted me 3-4 hours. However, Dan had it done in 4 hours! I'm still in disbelief. So now my house is in the best shape it's ever been. Everything works, everything looks good. My only regret is not having found this company sooner so that I could enjoy my home in working order a little longer before I move. If you've got anything lingering on your to-do list, call these guys. You will not be disappointed. read more

Can't recommend Welter Home Service enough! Kevin provided quality service at a very fair price. More importantly to me, he was always staying in communication with me and punctual. I would suggest you talk to him for any contractor needs and see for yourself! read more

Kevin Welter of Welter Home Services is outstanding! We've had him to our house twice now to complete projects ranging from hanging a stained glass window pane to replacing light switches to fixing our storm door so that it latches properly. And so much more. He always comes up with great solutions to problems with our house we thought we'd never be able to solve! For instance, he noticed damage to our hardwood floor in the entryway and after asking a few questions about what we would like to see done, he laid out a common sense plan to repair it that would be simple and cost effective. Eureka, I say! That's just the type of person we need on-call to help us as we muddle through home ownership. We are relieved to have found such a competent, hardworking, and reasonably priced handyman whom we can TRUST in Mt. Prospect. We also have received some great referrals from him for our fireplace repairs/upkeep and our pending driveway and patio project. We are THRILLED to have found him! To say we highly recommend Welter Home Services is an understatement. He is essential around here! read more
