No one I knew had any recommendations, so I contacted a few electricians on Yelp because I didn't know where to start. He responded quickly and was EXTREMELY helpful, talking to me on several calls to give an estimate and initial troubleshooting ideas, including suggestions for what to tell my building's engineer in case I opted to have the engineer try to fix it first. He had me send photos of my electrical panel and he mentioned the brand of breakers I had (Challenger) are known to be problematic and hazardous, so he suggested that I have them swapped out when I have the lightswitch fixed. He said my building engineer could probably do it if I preferred that, which would be less expensive. Because my building just changed maintenance/engineering companies earlier this year and I don't really know or trust the new engineer yet, I wanted to have an electrician do this to make sure it was done correctly. I was impressed by his Yelp reviews, Angie's List reviews, and BBB rating, so I hired him. Chris was super easy to work with to schedule the appointment, and he gave me a 2 hour window for when he'd arrive (and as it approached, he called/texted to update me on a more exact ETA). I ended up having him replace all my breakers, and he also replaced the three light switches that were faulty. He also swapped out my hardwired smoke detector, since my old one was past its prime. I pre-purchased the breakers and detector since I had a few days' lead time, so he only charged me for the switches and his time (which was spot-on with the estimate he gave me over the phone). He also went up on my roof when he saw the breaker for my AC unit seemed to not make sense for the size of my apartment, and sure enough it was not what the AC unit sticker said it should be. So he replaced that one with the correct amperage, which reduces the strain on the AC Unit (so it doesn't get damaged) and reduces the risk of a fire. He also found some problems with my building's roof and some building wiring that was exposed up there, which he photographed and sent to me so I could pass it along to the board and management company for them to handle. Chris is a super nice guy, and he was great at explaining what was wrong and what needed to be fixed without upselling me. I'm someone who stresses out about anything home maintenance because I'm terrified of something going tragically wrong, so I appreciated the info he shared. I've already recommended him to my neighbors in our building's facebook group, and I will definitely hire him again for any other electrical work I may need. (I may eventually get my life together and replace some ceiling light fixtures and install a fan. While in theory I could do it myself, I'd rather not accidentally electrocute myself. Plumbing and electric are the two things I don't mess around with, even for simple fixes).

We hired North Shore Electric to design and install a gutter and downspout de-icing system. Despite…read morethe system being powered on, the downspouts freeze solid, water backs up, and ice pools at the base--creating a serious safety hazard. We raised this issue last winter and again this year, and each time our concerns were dismissed, with blame placed on us despite the system being turned on well in advance of freezing conditions. We are now being told that their 10-year "warranty" only covers the cable itself, not evaluating whether the system is functioning properly or was correctly designed. In other words, if the system fails to do its basic job, we still have to pay them just to tell us why. What is the point of a warranty if the company refuses to stand behind system performance or take responsibility for obvious design failures? Between the unsafe conditions, refusal to investigate without charging high fees, and repeated deflection, this experience has been extremely disappointing. We would not recommend this company. It's clear that once they receive their nearly $5,000 payment, customer support ends.

Hired them to troubleshoot a conduit that had no power that had a dimmer to control the track…read morelighting stick in the Living Room. I multi'd the wires and definitively confirmed there was no power at the dimmer conduit. I advised the Tech in advance at the time of booking the service call. He spent over an hour troubleshooting. He fished it to a conduit in the Kitchen where the Ceiling Fan was connected and reported the root cause of no power was a poor slice in the Ceiling Fan conduit box and said he repaired it. He then reinstalled the new dimmer I had previously installed. Quickly packed up, settled the commercials and and was wasting no time heading out and I asked him if he multi-d the Dimmer and Track Conduit to confirm the boxes had functional power and he said yes and that the problem now was that I had a faulty Track Stick. I then questioned him as to why there was no power indicators lit on the Lutron Dimmer. He stated that it was because the Track Stick was faulty and needed to be replaced. I bought and installed a new track stick today only to find the Cans still didn't light up nor the dimmer switch and reconfirmed again the root cause was again the same problem reported from the onset. I uninstalled the Dimmer Multi'd the Conduit and confirmed again the conduit still had no power. He never resolved the issue. Further, I asked him for his business card only to find out that he took it upon himself to put his company sticker on my Breaker Box without my advance consent. I then called him to tell him there was still no power and he said no worries he will come on Monday. I told him I was disappointed and why I need to wait till Monday as I didn't wait to pay him for his services on Friday. He then address me as Dude told me he doesn't work 24/7 and that he is practicing drums with his band and he could just give me back my money. No evidence of empathy or accountability for the poor workmanship. So I agreed to take the refund and he Zelle'd me back my money right away. When he was on site reinstalling the new Lutron Dimmer Switch I'd just bought he was going to leave without installing the cover. I asked him where the new cover was I just bought that wasn't even open. He look puzzled and then went to his tool bag where he took it upon himself to put my new cover in his tool bag and said he thought it was his and thought it had previously fallen out. I found that puzzling as well. He did say we had a faulty wall outlet and replaced it pro bono. That was a kind an unsolicited gesture. Not sure how they make their money with this type of service. Perhaps it was an anomaly but what is clear, I will never use or refer these folks to anyone.

So why the 1-star rating: My issue with R Core is that we specifically asked them to pull a permit for the job they were doing. They charged us for said permit and told us they did. An inspector never came out to confirm the work. I reached out to R Core several times asking when an inspector would come out and I got no response. Finally I went online and searched our address to see if a permit was pulled and there is NO record of a permit being pulled for this job. I reached out again to RCore several times requesting a refund for the permit charge and they never responded. I find this very shady and I'm very upset that they charged me to pull a permit and didn't actually pull it. And that they have not responded to any of my emails. I also tried calling Roman directly and he never returned my calls either. I will never do business with them again.
