Dogs are allowed but must be on leash. Lots of people fishing! In the beginning there were a lot of people walking but as we were getting close to the end of the hike we didn't see anyone. Check this spot out! Its fun, easy and a good way to spend some time outside this summer!

The trail is well-marked with bright yellow diamond markers on trees, and additionally annotated by sharpie at trail forks. We skipped the alternate route that presumably would've led to a longer loop that included a small waterfall at the river (according to AllTrails), so it only took an hour round trip for us to reach the Wu Ledges vista, then get back to our car before a rainstorm hit. The gorgeous views of the shorter leg were worth the effort. We were occasionally plagued by mosquitoes and flies, so I'm glad we packed the bug repellant.

The loop is about 1.7 miles IIRC, an easy (but not too wimpy) trek for my seven-year-old, with gentle ups and downs, even with thick snow cover on the ground in regular winter boots. (The Pardner forgot to throw our snowshoes and crampons in the car = demerits!) Although there are only three parking spots, there are enough accumulated visitors that there's a nicely packed, easy-to-follow trail. From the top, there's a nice view of the town with, I think, Mad River Glen, in the distance. Yellow trail markers are easy to follow up to the viewing point, less well marked on the other side. Lots of deer tracks, racoon and possum tracks, and a few intrepid squirrels out and about in winter. If you need a break from skiing, head to Wu and stop at the Sweet Spot across the covered bridge after. Perfect use of a winter morning. :)

It looks like there may have been something more there in the past, but now it is just a small circle on the ground marking the spot. Overall, it really feels like a great accomplishment to reach the top. There are multiple trails to the peak and a good bit of rock scrambling to keep things interesting, but nothing too difficult. Definitely a rewarding hike. PS - there is off-season parking, you just will add an extra mile or so getting onto the trail, but it's never closed.

This is a great little hike to the top of Vermont…read more We choose the steepest and shortest trail: Hellbrook. The trail is steep but well maintained with frequent "blazes". As someone that has never hiked in the east...I was shocked with how easy it is to stay on trails here. Just follow the blue or white paint marks! There are some "slimey slabs" on the way up. Unbroken surfaces of rock that can get slippery if it has recently rained. There might be a few sections where using your hands would be helpful. This meets all the other trails at the summit. The summit area is beautiful...save for all the random ski resort hardware. There were friendly trail guides on the summit making sure people don't stomp on the tundra. One of them even took a picture of my climbing partner and I. Took us about 1.5 hrs up, a little less down. (we are pretty quick though)

We took the trail from North beach and pedaled 7.5 miles to where the trail breaks and you can take a ferry to the other side of the Chanel. This rail trail was the main attraction to our visit to Burlington, and it did not disappoint!

It's a quick and easy walk and usually empty. It provides great views of the mountains, fields and then the golf course. Part of the path goes along somebody's backyard and driveway, and then in the road through a residential neighborhood, but then you get to the part that goes through the golf course, which is great. It's never crowded like the Stowe Rec Path, so if you're looking for a quiet stroll, maybe after the Ben and Jerry's tour, it's a great walk.

I was…read morelooking for a review to write for the Island Line Rail Trail, but this seems to be the same thing. From a runner's perspective, I don't search for bike paths to run, to let the cyclists have their routes, so I searched for best runs in Burlington and found the Island Line Rail Trail. What a gem! There are some parts where you are running through neighborhoods, but it's relatively well labeled so you don't get confused, like some other paths in the area. After you run or bike past Airport Park to the gravel portion and marble causeway, you'll reach what's arguably the most picturesque portion of the path to see beautiful views of Lake Champlain. When you get into the Colchester Causeway, you're in the lake - going for a few miles, until you reach a gap. If you care to do so for a small fee, take a short bike ferry and continue along for about another mile. Then, turn around and go back. You'll see neighborhoods and parks, cross the Winooski River on a picturesque bridge, possibly see wildlife like egrets (beautiful!) and herons and even a bald eagle (locals told me about the eagles). Different parts help you see the Lake, but also to just see Burlington's green spaces. Part of this path is run during the Vermont City Marathon, if you look down in the southern portion of the trail, you can see the markings. Even if you're not a runner, this is such a treat for someone who lives here or is visiting - because it's hard to get lost, you don't really need a map, and it's a good long 13 or so miles to just be in nature. So, just find the nearest connection to where you are and get onto the path - you'll enjoy it, wherever and for however long your journey.

Okay, I love, love, love Maple Street Park. I have two young children and this is definitely one…read moreof our favorite places to hang out. I love the ratio of equipment for the age of my kids--plenty of baby/toddler swings and slides. Also little rocking ride on equipment. The only thing that could make it a little better for us would be a swing for special needs kids as my older daughter can't sit safely in a regular swing due to her needs. But we make do with what is there very nicely :) The grounds are super well kept and part of a larger park which includes a baseball and soccer (I think) field. I am kind of obsessed with the beautiful flower garden that they have in the parking lot. I would love to be able to steal their gardener for a day to help me make something similar. There is a pool as well with a waterslide. We've never actually used the pool but it very popular and always crowded. There is also a skate park for older kids which is really cool. At least it looks cool--I don't know the first think about skateboarding. I am always impressed by how respectful the skaters seem to be about safety rules. It looks like a lot of fun. Anyhow, this is a really nice park with great shade on hot days. There are always lots of super friendly people there to chat with as well.

I love this park…read more It is beautiful. It is clean and well kept. I remember coming here after school with a few hours to waste, would buy snacks on the way and just lazy around enjoying the sunshine. What a life, it really just makes me so happy. Coming here again brings back good memories.
