5 Star Auto Service lost my car key and refused to compensate. On February 18, 2025 [this was actually 2024], a tow truck driver from 5 Star Auto Service (a contractor for AAA) came to provide service for my car. He asked for my car keys, which I immediately gave him. He used my keys to start my car, and after getting out, asked me to show him my insurance, ownership documents, and registration, as well as my driver's license. I provided the title and license, but I couldn't show proof of insurance. After carefully examining my documents, he told me that he couldn't assist me without proof of insurance. So the service was canceled. He returned my driver's license and title, but failed to return my car keys. The next day, I tried to find another towing company to take my car to be sold. While preparing all the documents and items for selling my car, I realized that one of my keys was missing. I searched my entire house but couldn't find it. I suddenly realized that the driver hadn't returned my keys to me. I immediately called him, and he said he didn't remember returning the key to me. I asked him if he could look for it, but he said he was working out of the office and couldn't go back to check. I told him that if he didn't find it now, it would be pointless even if he found it later because I was about to sell the car. He said there was nothing he could do. So I immediately contacted AAA to report the issue. AAA said they would get back to me, but I never received a response. Later, I followed up with AAA again and informed them that the dealer quoted me $500 plus tax for a new key. However, I still received no response. In May, I contacted AAA again. After verifying what happened, AAA told me to contact 5 Star Auto Service directly for compensation. However, 5 Star Auto Service shamelessly claimed that they never provided any service to me and, since three months had already passed, they wouldn't provide any compensation because I couldn't provide proof. In fact, I contacted the driver the day after I lost my keys and also contacted AAA, but they kept delaying and trying to brush me off. I really did lose $533! I tried to contact the driver to request compensation. Three months ago, he admitted that he didn't remember returning my car keys to me. Now he won't even answer my calls. 5 Star Auto Service damaged my car during a tow and REFUSED to compensate. DO NOT USE 5 Star Auto Service. They caused nearly $4,000 worth of damage to my vehicle during a routine tow and then completely refused to take responsibility. A tow truck driver named John, contracted through AAA, came to tow my car. While he was hooking it up, my husband witnessed him dragging and damaging the underside of the vehicle. We even took photos as it happened. When my car was returned, the damage was obvious: the grill, front bumper, and undercarriage were wrecked. I called AAA, who told me I had to deal directly with 5 Star. That's where things got even worse. I spoke with a woman named Valerie, who was shockingly rude and dismissive. She sarcastically said she'd "see what she could do" and then immediately said, "We will not do anything." When I asked to speak to a manager or owner, she told me they were "retired" and "come in whenever they want." I never got a call back. When I followed up a week and a half later, she repeated the same line that they would not fix my car because "too much time had passed," despite the fact that I had called immediately after the damage occurred. The entire exchange felt like they just didn't care at all about the harm they caused. If you care about your car or want to be treated with even basic respect, stay far away from this company. As owners of a local automotive repair facility, I have never in 30 years been treated with this much disrespect and unprofessionalism from a tow truck company upon receiving a phone call from my client that their vehicle has arrived with Five star towing/AAA car I instructed the tow truck operator to drop the vehicle facing the garage because it is the company policy so we can move the vehicle to make appropriate repairs after being shut down and being told that that is not in his job description receiving the very nasty attitude him telling me that that is not his problem he's going to drop the vehicle as it is then when I allow him to accept and modify his behavior that I can call the management office offering to pay to have the vehicle turned around so I called the management and voiced my concern then I receive another attitude on the phone because of my frustration, which is perfectly understandable after realizing that this tow truck operator is an otter, incompetent idiot that should not be allowed to drive a 25,000 pound tow truck when my customer begs me to get her car off of that bed because she was screaming that the car had been sliding around and not winched down properly The car sliding back-and-forth doing damage to her vehicle. Then after notifying the customer that I might have to call another company to pick the vehicle up and face it in the proper direction so we can proceed. We allow the vehicle to be dropped, and when the vehicle came off of the bed, it starts rolling backwards with the operator, not understanding the function of a parking brake. The customer notifies me so I have to grab a wheel truck from in the shop to prevent the car from rolling down the parking lot. I have never in 30 years. Have had a problem with a tow truck company dropping a car facing a desired direction and it's always the same type of characters Young Thug type that always act up and when the boss hangs up the phone on me because he doesn't like the way he's being talked to after me loosing my patience with him which that is exactly my point nobody does further proving my POINT I will be inspecting this vehicle for any damages related to this transport and I will be notifying The companies insurer if I could give zero stars I would they should change the name to zero stars pathetic read more

This is my 2nd favorable review for Five Star Towing out of Lodi, NJ. My SUV's battery appeared dead today and caught me by surprise as I was unable to start the car. Fortunately, I am a AAA Prime Member, called AAA and requested road service. Five Star's driver and Tech, Kevin P. arrived promptly at my home with his service truck. Kevin went about diagnosing both the charging and starting systems and found them to be OK. He next checked my battery and found it to be on a very low charge. I then agreed to purchase a new AAA battery for the SUV. I chose one with a higher capacity. Kevin proceeded to carefully remove the battery cover and connections, placing the parts aside. He then showed me the new battery having 730 cold caranking amps, more than my original and much to my liking. I understand that AAA's batteries are manufactured by Interstate, a highly rated company. Following Kevin's work, all systems were then tested and the car started up immediately. They refused to tow a vehicle that was illegal parked in a private parking lot stating that a ticket needed to be on it.
