I've gone to this place on and off since I was a little girl (20+ years). Honestly it's alright.... I do think the Latina workers do a better job in terms of detailed nail prep, in case that matters. A bit overpriced, but that' feels like the trend in nail salons lately. We paid 55$ for a specialty pedicure, 17 for a regular manicure and 10 for eyebrow waxing. read more

You sometimes have to negotiate the language barrier here, but they are used to it. The services+tip can add up for a mani-pedi, but the women here seem to care about the customers for hopeful repeat business and try to do their jobs well. You can't ask for much more than that from a small local business especially. My only minor complaint is that no matter how many times I tell them, they still cut my fingernails too short! read more

DO NOT COME HERE! FIND ANOTHER SALON. I came here for a manicure and pedicure because my usual place I go to was booked for the day and I needed a quick clean up before I go out. They did my feet and cut one of my toes. I didn't see blood gushing just felt it so I said no big deal. She started doing my manicure and I had gel on my nails from my last time doing them. She brought out an e-file and started sanding them off then told me it was going to be $5 extra. Okay whatever. I asked for a clear gel top coat over my nails as she's removing the gel and said it's $30 for gel. I said you know what just give me regular clear and let me be on my way. She rushed to finish and have me pay then Criticized my cash tip. After she rushed to paint my nails and seat me by the dryer to take someone else I noticed I STILL HAVE GEL ON 4 FINGERS! I told the lady who seemed to have only spoke English or the manager -- like at this point just take off all the gel like I paid for and take off all the clear polish off my other nails so I can go. I did not want to sit and wait for my nails to dry a second time. I guess this is what I get for cheating on my regular nail lady. I more than likely will never come back here. My nails lasted not even 24 hours and already it's coming off and it looks horrible now. I've been going there for YEARS and everytime i go someway somehow my nail polish peels off. I usually try not to give any bad reviews, but this time I was really annoyed. I haven't gone to five star in a while because I stopped liking how they would do my nails. I decided to give it a try again, something told me not to, but I still did. I got a SNS powder manicure and regular pedicure. The woman that did my pedicure was kind of sassy, was rushing and was being kind of rough. she cut my cuticles too much and made it bleed but continued with my other nails like nothing. Then with my SNS manicure, some of my nails were cut short. 2 of them were cut short. The others were fine but now they look uneven. Overall I didn't really have a good experience and I'm most likely not going again. read more

I had been a loyal customer, as well as my family, for many years. Recently I've been confined to a wheelchair. I went there for a pedicure and was rudely turned away. They said they don't do people in wheelchairs. I was so upset. This against the law. They violated ADA regulations to make accomodations for the diabled. A stool and basin on the floor wouls have been sufficient. I will be reporting this to the Department for the physically challenged. read more

Maybe I'm wrong, but she wanted to charge me an extra $5.00 for a special treatment. Then when I asked for the file back so I could scrub my heal, realized I was out of my mind. I wish I read Jennifer D's review before going to Five Star Nails to get SNS. I only went to Five Star because my preferred nail salon doesn't carry it and the place I have gone to get it was too far for the short time that I had to get my nails done. I have NEVER seen SNS powder used with regular nail polish. SNS is a healthier alternative so using regular polish defeats the purpose. The nail tech used Essie products. She finished with an Essie top coat. I needed to get under the dryer. Again, defeats the purpose of the product having no dry time. I have NEVER left a nail salon with SNS powder and clear polish clumped between my nails and nail bed. I have NEVER had the skin around my nails plucked off left to bleed. On top of that my nail tech was rude every single time I asked her to stop doing something (like yanking at my skin) or not leaving a space between the base of my nail bed and the SNS (I would prefer if it didn't look like I was overdue for a fill-in)! Even he manager was rude when I told him I've never had an experience like this. His response: "Oh no, never?" There are a lot of better nail salons in Freeport and I would recommend going to Baldwin or Merrick before ever telling someone to go to this awful salon. Save your nails, skin and health and go somewhere else. read more

I keep giving this nail salon a try, despite all my horrible experiences. I guess this is partly my fault for going back after each time they fail to please me, but today really pushed me to make my decision of never going back there. So I went in to get my nails done as I usually do I waited for "you you" to be done doing my nails as always. The last couple of times I've been there I have been taking my own stones (since this place is so outdated and doesn't have any of the in trend things) and applying them MYSELF after my nails are done before I put them in the UV machine one final time. But today when I was going to do what I've been doing all this time, she informs me that I need to pay a dollar per every two of MY OWN stones that I apply MYSELF. Again, these are stones not available at their salon so they couldn't provide the service I wanted themselves. Anyways, I basically just just paid them to watch me do the job they couldn't do. I got a gel manicure there and three days later one nail peeled off half way through. Two days later two more nails lost their polish. I don't know if the polish they use if just awful or if they add something to the solution when running low. Nail polish remover? Water? Not sure. Went back exactly a week after and he inspected my nails as if there was something wrong with my word instead of his business's product. They redid the four nails that had chipped/peeled off and it looked ridiculous because obviously the other nails had grown out some so I ask how much would just a change of polish be? $23!!! I was a customer of this salon for many years, back when Kim owned the shop and I loved this place and all of the staff here. Since then, the new owners have expanded the salon and I will say that everything looks very nice and new and modern here. However, over the last few months I came in a few times for mani/pedi and was sorely disappointed. Worst mani/pedis I've ever had to suffer through, although I had been attended to by 3 different girls at those 3 trips. The first one, I thought okay maybe it's an off day for her. The second one, also terrible. The third awful trip was the last and I will not return here. I know some people love this shop, but even during the day on a Friday, in an expanded, larger shop, I'm not going to wait 20 minutes, AND PAY MORE than other salons in the area, for a subpar mani/pedi. Ugh!!!! I went here because my regular nail salon was closed for Labor Day. I desperately needed my nails done. I called and asked if they do SNS nails and lady said yes $30. I said great I'll be there. I arrived at the salon and waited 5 mins before I was seen. (Not bad I thought.) I soaked off my previous SNS set for 10 mins. Once they were completely soaked, the nail technician ( who was quite young) started to shape and trim my cuticles and nails. On one finger she cut my cuticle so deep I started to bleed. She got a napkin and wiped away the blood. ( no apology as she continued my nails). I asked to wash my hands so I won't get an infection and she claimed it will mess up the SNS. So she applied some green gel. (WTF!!) if you're looking to get an SNS set ... DO NOT GO HERE. She only applied 2 layers of powder, the polish for the powder smelled like "Krazy glue." Once she was "done" she was going to put the clear polish (which was regular Essie ). I asked her if she was going to shave it down so it won't be as bumpy and rough and she said o yes I'm going to. (WTF! How do you forget that?) once she finished shaving down she used the clear Essie polish and told me to sit under the dryer!!! ( I NEVER SAT UNDER THE DRYER AFTER SNS APPLICATION) This Is definitely NOT SNS nail set!!! They claim its SNS but it's really not!!! Not to mention they had a boy (no more than 11yo) working the cash register, asking people for tips as they paid. Wth! How do you have him asking for tip. They're probably good for regular tips, manicures, and pedicures but NOT for SNS.... They need to learn how to properly apply SNS. That's what I get for betraying my regular nail salon . read more

This place is great! I've been coming here for years to get my pedicures. I usually leave satisfied with the job they've done. The technicians take their time and the end product is great. I gave it 4 out 5 stars because: a) The male manager/owner is not very nice. He's rude and I've actually witnessed him have a full blown argument with an unsatisfied customer. b) Once or twice I had a new, young technician who rushed and didn't do that good of a job. I've never gotten my nails done there, just not into manicures, so I can't speak on the quality of that service. The services are affordable, I pay about $16 for a pedicure. I did see signs that prices will be increasing, starting May 1st. If your looking for a decent pedicure, I'd definitely recommend this place! read more

DO NOT GO HERE FOR SNS MANICURES!!! First of all, and most importantly, the lady was rude! From all the products she used only one said SNS on it, and that was the actual color powder. All else came from Essie nail polish bottles, weird! I had to sit and dry my nails under a dryer when I never had to do so before when I've done SNS. Lastly, she has me wash my hands before applying lotion and I notice that I have residue on my fingers from soaking the old color off. I ask why its there and if it comes off, she says "when you wash your hands" UMM I just washed my hands!! Someone from the front says something to her and then she says "let me see" and tries to remove it with acetone and still leaves some on my fingers! I didn't get her name but it doesn't even matter as I will not be returning. read more

Stay Away! This was my first and last time I will ever go, NEVER AGAIN! I had a mani and pedi and the girl who did my feet was very inexperienced and definitely did not have the proper training. She made my foot bleed from scrubbing the callous so hard. I kept telling her she was hurting me but she wouldn't stop until the girl working on my manicure told her. Then she tried to rinse the blood off with the same dirty water she soaked my feet in instead of using fresh water. Again other lady stopped her and I told her she needed to only use fresh water. Then it took forever for them to find a bandaid and while we were waiting for a bandaid the girl was wiping the blood off my open cut with her bare hands!! Same hands she used to handle other people's feet and hands at that point I yelled at her to not touch me and proceeded to leave she asked me to not leave so I let them finish. The girl was about put paper flip flop and paint my toes umm I walked in with flip flops. This place isn't sanitary at all. I hope I don't get an infection. They had the nerve to charge me $27.
