I learned about his business by responding to a listing for a used Mazda CX-5 with a great price that was posted on Craigslist. My wife and I had determined that a Ford Escape Hybrid would be the best vehicle for what we needed and I started looking on Craigslist for them and I found Nick (who does a lot of this type of vehicle). We went down to his shop and test drove one that we ended up deciding against. Two weeks later, Nick text me a picture of a new vehicle he was about to get, with complete pictures of it's current shape (being wrecked with salvage title, which is what we wanted). He quoted me a price on the vehicle which was more than generous and then texted me again when the vehicle was done so we could come see it. I used to be a used car salesman a decade ago so I know the tricks and crap that you come to expect. NONE of that was attempted by Nick. He stuck to the price he'd listed me, didn't try to get us lost in looking at monthly payments or playing with lengths of loans to "get the payment where we could afford it." He even upgraded a substantial part for free that was not discussed before our meeting. After we'd settled everything and we were happily driving home I noticed a speaker was a little blown out (we'd listened to some music on the test drive but it didn't illicit the rattle that I now heard). I texted Nick to tell him, half expecting "well, I'm sorry. It's sold As-Is" which was clearly printed on the paper. Even if he had, I would have understood and still felt good about the whole deal and given a 5 star review, but nope. Nick said it was no problem at all and agreed to replace the speaker free of charge. It took 3 weeks to get back down to San Diego to have the speaker fixed and during that time, he never left me hanging on texts or calls when I had questions. This guy is a stand up dude. I wish I had more money to buy another car from him. My mom was just hit by another driver, totaling her car, and I'm trying to get her to drive down to San Diego to get hooked up by him. My deal was so ridiculously good I don't want to list it here because he sells a lot of this type of vehicle and don't want others to use it as a benchmark. The only thing that could make his business better is if it weren't 3 hours from where I live :D TL;DR There should be more stars available for Nick at Five Star Motors. I couldn't be more pleased with the product, the price, or his communication, even after the sale. These guys are scammers. They sold a truck through auction in San diego copart as a clean title. They provided clean title to the auction and I bought the truck paid top dollar because the truck was a clean title. After i bought the truck almost a month goes by and these guys report the truck to the insurance which ended up salvaging the truck and they got paid out. I am reporting them to insurance for fraud and good luck! read more

I worked with Nick on several vehicles before we finally closed a deal on a beautiful grey F-150 Platinum truck. I can honestly say that I have had zero issues with the vehicle and the whole transaction was very smooth. Nick usually deals in salvage titles and I actually think that I may give this a go on my next longer-term purchase vehicle based on simply Nick himself (my vehicle was a clean title and Nick deals in those also). You can tell that he stands behind his work and runs a very clean operation. I had a couple nitpicks with the vehicle (light bulb out) and Nick fixed those in short order. He also hooked me up with a cheap oil change just before I drove the car off. I'm extremely particular and he even let me pick a licence plate frame from the non-sold cars in his lot. It's a little touch like that that makes you a customer for life. And if you're reading this and wondering if you should purchase a car from him trust me (and the other rave Yelp reviews): He is an honest, trustworthy guy in a business usually lacking both of those qualities. When I first started looking for a very specific car (Escape Hybrid), I found plenty, but none had everything I wanted except a salvaged one on Nick's lot. I'm very wary of salvaged cars and I felt it was overpriced so I initially disregarded it. But it had such low miles and everything that I wanted that I went out to take a look at it. I loved the car but was still too wary of the salvage to buy right away. I was impressed with Nick and even more impressed when I went home and checked his Yelp reviews. After talking with him for a while, seeing his insanely high customer satisfaction and checking how long he's been in business, I felt comfortable pulling the trigger. Here's the thing you get with Nick that you don't get with any other used dealer: customer satisfaction and peace of mind that the vehicle you buy will be right or he will make it right. When you buy from Nick, you are buying the man, not the car. When I first got my car, the AC wasn't working super well. He told me not to worry about it, he would have it fixed free of charge and guess what...he did exactly that! Then a month later we had another issue that looked like it would be a $4,000 bill (luckily it turned out not to be). When I called Nick, even though he was under no obligation, he said simply, "Don't worry, I'll handle it" I can't tell you how nice it is to have Nick in my corner and know I can call him at any time with any issue. He is where I'll purchase my cars from now on, Salvage or not. No exceptions. I look back at what I thought when I initially saw his ad and thought the car was 'too expensive'. I couldn't have been more wrong. Considering it came with Nick as the dealer, it was the best deal I ever got on a car. Can't recommend him highly enough except to say this: forget Yelp. I bought my 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid from Nick approximately 2 months ago. Initially, it was a great transaction. He allowed me to make payments on the remaining balance as I had not brought enough cash, and offered to replace the headrests that were missing. My issues started when I had to have my headlights inspected, which is the law on a salvaged title. The shop I took my car to informed me that the car would not pass inspection because the headlight couldn't be adjusted. I informed Nick and was told to come down to his mechanic in El Cajon to have him fix it. (I live in Long Beach). I did so, and after several hours of waiting, I left with nothing resolved as Nick's mechanic verified that it could not be adjusted. I have made several requests to have the headlight fixed, only to be told that I must waste more of my time and make a 5 hour round trip drive so that the headlight can be shimmed into place. I offered to have it fixed up here and deduct the cost from my balance; that was turned down. Yes, I bought a salvaged vehicle and I know it's not perfect, but I do expect that all systems work properly. I do not feel that I should have to take another day to go down and have something repaired that should have been working properly initially or repaired when I went down the first time.
