I have used Five Star Dog Resort for about 7 years and have always had a positive experience. I have had 3 dogs trained there and use them regularly for boarding. (German Shepard, Cavalier, and Berniedoodle.). My dogs get excited when we pull up which always makes it a little easier to leave them. Grooming onsite is also a perk. My Berniedoodle went through the entire training program (2 sessions, including off leash) and is one of the most well mannered and obedient dogs I've ever had. My Cavalier is a lazy sack of potatoes! She just loves everyone, so we only did basic training and that's all she needed. Over my 20 years of dog ownership, we've kenneled our dogs at plenty of places. Of them, 5 Star is amongst the best when it comes to caring about your pet. They have a strong focus on this, even going so far as to call me during our last vacation and asking if they can order something for my dog to help him be more comfortable. No kennel has ever done that before! The only thing that I don't care for at this kennel is you can't bring their dog beds, which is because they clean the kennels daily, but they do provide mats for the dogs to lay on. Otherwise, love this place. The owner is very involved on a daily basis and also does dog training, a service we haven't taken advantage of yet. read more

I've been bringing my little one here for about 10 months now. This facility is very nice to leave your pet, but the lady in the front is nasty and rude. Every time I call to make a reservation she has a nasty attitude and made me not want to no longer leave my little one there anymore. If it wasn't for her nasty attitude, I would've gave this place more stars. It's a shame how someone's attitude can bring bad business. read more

Our dogs stay here and absolutely love it. They are happy when we come to pick them up, the staff is friendly and they even let you tour the facility! We've also used their groomer and she is excellent. She was able to groom one of our doggies who we were recommended to have sedated in order to be groomed. She was able to groom him, no problem! read more

This is not regarding the recent boarding, as there was no visible despair that we saw from any of our three dogs. I have waited for over a week now to see how Darren would further handle the situation that we so unfortunately incurred with Prescott while in their care. While it was the groomer, that is still a person whom you employ and are yet responsible for. It is disconcerting to have been witness not only to his lack of empathy while in the moment at his facility, but further how he seemed to have ignored the situation. Perhaps he reprimanded the groomer or perhaps he didn't, behind the scenes, none of that is concern to me. As someone who is business oriented, I have yet to understand how he didn't reach out further, how he didn't offer a credit to the grooming bill, or how he didn't over some other compensation for future stay. Between our three dogs, it is fair to say that we spent a good deal of money boarding them at this facility for 7-days. To come home and find that they elected to shave my beautiful, long haired Pekingese is inexplicable. I, personally, do not think that they have any right without having something in writing to do as they did. I emphatically, in tears, stated in his facility, I, in no way, gave permission for this to occur. I never once received a phone call from the groomer or anyone else at the facility to authorize this, nor would I. To say that they have a master groomer who was unable to get through some matts, is laughable. His normal groomer has zero problems with him; how do you think he still had long hair? I do not wish to receive their pity or even their money. I simply wanted to let him know that if he prided himself as an honest, caring business owner and a dog lover, he has not proved that he is either of these through this situation. ~~Displeased customer! read more

Five Star is a fantastic boarding and training facility. They take great care of my dogs, and the staff is friendly and helpful. They knew me and my dogs after the very first time I boarded there. The dogs get a private room and the kennel food is very high quality. They will give medicines and supplements at no additional charge, and most times they even wash the blankets I bring! I also signed my new rescue dog up for private and group training classes at Five Star. Darin is a great trainer, and is patient yet very effective. He is customer-focused and doesn't try to sell you on tons of expensive services you don't need - my dog was doing great after the very first class. I couldn't recommend Five Star more highly for boarding and training. They are the best! read more

We have been using them for about 8 years. I have seen a big drop off of quality of care. This last time my French bulldog came home a nerves wreck! I also found that her neck fur was coming out in clumps. After looking closer she had defiantly been bitten by another dog. I took her to the vet and it was a bit!! They DID NOT tell us that anything happened! I will NEVER, NEVER go back!! Be VERY aware of this so called "resort"!!! read more

Darren is THE Dog Whisper!! I have 2 Akitas (stubborn dogs) one is 9 year old female and the other is a 1 year old female puppy. She grew up with Koko as a puppy but for some reason started turning against her, they got into a fight probably 3- 4 times, it was scary and we thought we were either going to have to put Kiki down or give her away. Our Vet recommended Darren @ Five Star. Kiki spent a month with him,WOW what a difference!! She has gained confidence and structure, she is now a wonderful dog and we were able to reincorporate her back into the household. She is now able to get along with Koko and when I take them on a walk, it is heaven, she stays right by my side, total control. THANK YOU DARREN!! read more

No matter how many dogs you have owned in your life, nor how many different breeds there will come a time when you have met your match. Darrin is your man. My "girl" Penny was rescued Dec. 2018. At just over 50 lbs. she is 1/2 the size of any other dog I loved. All have been trained to walk on a leash, most off leash, and to bark only at the cats next door that used our driveway to sun themselves. A few have been trained in a small amount of agility. Not competition but just for fun. I have had GSD's, Boxer, Doberman's, large mixed breeds and a Pitt. With the exception of the GSD's and the Doberman the rest have all been rescued at about 1 year of age. I thought that Penny would have been a piece of cake but the issues she came with were way out of my ability. She is extremely smart and learned all the "tricks" very quickly but there were a few things that were dangerous to both myself and my "girl" that I could not make the smallest amount of progress. One was critically unsafe! She wanted to chase cars and nothing I could do would work in trying to control her when a car was driving past. It was everything I could do to stop her from pulling both of us out onto the street! She wanted to catch and destroy any car no matter the direction they were headed. When cars were present she was beside herself, she did not know which way to turn first. Something may have happened to her in her life, or if it might me just one of the many breeds that are all mixed up inside this girl. We will never know. I am not sure how Darrin did this but I can now walk her on a fairly busy road without her even trying to go after the car. In fact she will actually do a down stay and CALMLY watch the cars go by. I was never sure if she was aggressive towards other dogs, but I knew she had never learned the proper way to meet and great. When she saw another dog she would pull and bark, and twist me around and trust me 50 lbs. is not easy to control even if you are used to 100 lb. male dogs. (they don't call us "bitches" for nothing!) Now we walk Leita Thomson, Red Top, Kennesaw Mtn. and other smaller local parks on a regular basis, and while she does not actually meet her fellow canines on the trail we are able to step to the side, have her calmly go into a down stay and let the other pooch walk by. (we do have a little bit of an issue with small dogs that harbor a Napoleon complex but who wouldn't!) She even made a visit to the vet for her yearly physical and was able to sit and wait her turn without making a commotion. She would be even further ahead if I had not broken my hand 3 weeks after her training. If it had not been for Darrin I would not have been able to walk her and she would not have left the yard for 6-7 weeks while my hand was in a cast. For a dog with as much energy as this girl has I am afraid to think how she may have acted out. ( Would I still have a couch?) So..."Thank you Darrin for giving me my dog. I liked her independence, her personality and spunk before but now I really love my girl. More importantly she loves me! I don't think we would have gotten here without you!" So any of you who have a new dog that needs some training or an old dog that needs a little help, don't wait. Call now!!!! You'll be glad you did. read more

Our Sara has given us a hard time with groomers and boarding this past year. I think with the high turnover where she was going made her feel insecure. I found Five Star by chance looking at homes for friends moving in the area. It's a bit of a drive but seeing how excited Sara gets when going for grooming or boarding it's well worth the drive. She sees the same constant faces as it is a family run business. I feel like I'm leaving her with family and know they have her best interest at heart. They are a very clean facility and very attentive to the animals. Give them a try for grooming, boarding and training. You won't be disappointed! read more

We are VERY picky when it comes to dog boarding. Our dogs are always beyond challenging. We moved from Washington about 3 years ago and have really been struggling to find a place we're comfortable with. We tried Five Star Dog Resort on the advice of a friend who also has a challenging dog. I was really worried about leaving them and asked if we could call and check on them. We called every day and the staff was so friendly when we did. One thing that stuck out is that you could always tell that whoever we spoke with had just seen them within the last couple minutes. We returned and expected the dogs to be really excited to leave and come home, as this is how they've always reacted. It was quite the opposite this time, in fact they didn't seem to want to leave. While they were excited to see us, one kept running back to a member of the staff and trying to play with him. I can't explain how happy I am that we've found this place, and it will be our go to for all boarding going forward. read more

Darren and his team are amazing! We leave our 2 black labs in their care and never worry a minute. Both dogs have "issues", too! One has an autoimmune disorder and requires daily medications. The other has significant anxiety and seizes every time we pick him up, and he's 110 pounds. Darren and his team work with us and help us all get through this. He knows dogs, is patient and great at suggesting ideas that can help. Five Star is one of the few places left that is focused on customer service and satisfaction. read more

We were so pleased with the care our two Scottish Terriers received during a recent kenneling. They were able to be together at all times in a very clean environment. The staff was relaxed and welcoming and our dogs reflected that when we picked them up. We were return grooming and kenneling customers from when we first moved to Roswell and will continue to be return customers in the future. read more

Wow what a wonderful experience. Our English lab puppy ( 1 yr) has done on and off leash training with Darrin. He is an amazing dog trainer. My dog Wilson just loved the time he spent there and the training is going great . Darrin is incredibly patient and is extremely talented. His prices are very fair and the training we all received was amazing. Our Wilson is well on his way to becoming the wonderful well behaved dog we wanted. I would highly recommend this facility. They really care about these pets and they are in this business for the right reasons. Everyone who works there is so friendly and they all knew my dog ! The groomer was terrific too . When I took my dog back for the second 2 week session he was so happy to see Darrin. Five Star is not close to where I live and it is COMPLETELY worth the 45 minute drive. If you need training or boarding for your pet this is definitely the place. read more
