I have lived in Long Beach for over 2 years now and was excited to finally get to try this restaurant - safe to say it was a major disappointment. To start off we had a reservation for 7:30, we showed up at 7:32 and still had to wait about 15/20 minutes to be seated (what is the point of a reservation then?). There were little gnats flying around the whole time outside - so bad we watched 2 tables be seated and then leave immediately. Thus we requested to be inside once we were finally taken to a table. After being seated it took another 15 minutes for our server to even come over to us. In the mean time we noticed that both our utensils and cups looked dirty! Then we quickly realized we both had 2 different menus. A LOT of different app and entree options on them so it was confusing. Then when the waiter finally came to us we asked and one menu was outdated - then of course it was the one with items we were way more interested in. We ordered water and drinks to start and the Ahi Tuna Tostada as an app. The appetizer came out before the drinks somehow and was VERY small - $21 for a single tostada - and it just made it really awkward to share (which apps should be shareable plates). Then the drinks came and were not great either for a basic $16 cocktail. Then I got the Salmon dish for dinner - the taste was very delicious and I loved all the veggies that came with the dish. BUT it looked like they took a normal piece of salmon and cut it into 1/3's. Salmon is normally a pricey meal to eat out so at least give me a normal size piece of the fist. My boyfriend ordered the buttermilk fried chicken with honey lime chili sauce. His plate was HUGE compared to mine, but his main complain was that it tasted like plain fried chicken besides a small part of it with the honey lime chili flavoring. I tried it and it was good but very unfortunate that the seasoning wasn't on all the chicken so it bland for the most part. Lastly, the entire time we ate we never saw our waiter again, and then easily 10/15 minutes after we finished eating we had to hunt him down to get the check. We had a 7:30 reservation and left around 10PM which seemed so extra considering our food didn't take that long to come out. Overall it was a pretty bad experience for overpriced basic food. What an amazing hidden gem located right off the boardwalk! I did not sit inside so I can't account for the inside vibes, but sitting along the outside railing / bar looking at the beach is heavenly. HIGHLY recommend the lobster nachos. Perfect amount of toppings and the chips are actually amazing as well. Also truffle fries are a complete must have. Guacamole was also surprisingly amazing (again the chips!). They also had the best fish tacos I've had in a long time! Now the service.... Find Collin and sit in his section. Super patient and very accommodating. Always came back at perfect times to check in. One day when we were sitting outside one of us dropped their credit card between the wooden slots on the floor. Collin immediately jumped in to help and rescued the credit card. He was awesome! read more

Unfortunately, five ocean has so much potential to be a great spot but it was just a great disappointment for my girlfriend and I. I understand that the location is costly and the food has to reflect that. If the food is a high price and is good, then it's money well spent in my book but that was not the case here at five ocean. The only plate that was worth the price was the chicken because of the quantity but it was lacking quality for sure. There was absolutely NO SEASONING except of a little spot on the massive chicken. Along with the food that was well below par, the service was terrible. The fact that they couldn't get us water for 15/20 minutes, drinks that are terrible, utensils that were DIRTY. I have been telling those close to me to avoid five ocean and everyone was shocked at our experience. I'm not sure if it was just the day we went but as a restaurant, you don't know if that one off day is going to be important for someone and everyday has to be a good day. Located steps from the Long Beach's boardwalk, Five Ocean is one of Long Island's best kept secrets! Came here for the first time yesterday and was blown away! Not by the wind (although it was definitely a windy day), but by the incredible food they dish out.My table started off with the delicious clam dip, which comes with several pieces of a warm baguette. The dip was described as essentially an open baked clam and we really couldn't get enough of it. For my entre, I ordered the fried fish sandwich, which had two layers of fish stacked on top of each other. Chef don't kill me when I say this (I mean it in a good way), it felt like I was eating a very high end and grown-up version of a big mac, except with the freshest local fish and ingredients you can find. There's something about stacking two layers of deliciousness within a patty that just makes me feel like a kid again. If my appetite would have allowed, I would of so ordered a second one to go for the ride home, it was that good! I also had a small taste of my friends linguini with clams, which in my opinion, was some of the best I've ever had. Having never been to Long Beach before, I was surprised how a place with a boardwalk had so few places to eat by the boardwalk. But thankfully the options that were there were good. Enter 5 Ocean. Being right at the end of the boardwalk makes for an easy walk over here. Most of the seating was outside in front of the sand dune whereas there was a bit of seating inside. Hostess made it sound like they were booked solid. Then her story changed to just the outside being completely reserved, with then being able to 'accommodate' us inside. It wasn't, because there were tables open there the whole time and there was no large party. Mind you we came at 5pm with our kid, and the place was mostly empty. Not the best start unless the goal was to make us feel very unwelcome; she was super young, so maybe she doesn't like kids or something. Inside was fun at least because we got to hear animated discussion in the kitchen. Who doesn't love a good fight? Luckily the food redeemed the initial awkwardness. I got the fish special which was tilefish. Haven't had this fish before (even if it's just a whitefish) but I thought it was cooked perfectly, was clearly fresh, and picked up flavor from the dish well. Just wish it was a bit bigger for the price point however at least the sides were good. My wife and son shared a custom pasta dish which was garlic and oil with mushrooms; the chef made this to accommodate my son's severe dairy allergy. I tried a bit of this and it was superb. Their mushrooms (chanterelle) were incredible and there was just enough garlic to be rich but not to go overboard. Would definitely come back again for an adult meal here, and make a reservation to be on the beach side. Hostess and kitchen drama aside, it was a very positive experience. Originally came along to the beach to do boardwalk biking with some friends & my daughter. We heard of this spot and thought it was a quick bite shack shop on the boardwalk. It's more like an off the boardwalk/beach restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating was right on a mini boardwalk at the sand which was nice. But, unfortunately it wasn't a quick bite at all. The waitress came and introduced herself and was very polite. But, the service took realllly long. We thought it was going to be a 30/40 min lunch but we ended up being there for over an hour and a half. We were so thirsty we ordered water when we first saw her and it took about 10 mins before we got any cups (but she was walking back and forth from the kitchen). I figured she was waiting for the alcoholic drink my friend ordered , but As a past waitress myself, i would never hold off water from a table for mixed drinks (esp in that heat)! We ordered truffle fries for the table & guacamole and chips. The fries were good. Nice and flavorful. We ordered the grilled chicken nachos and it had white cheese but something about the nachos hurt our tummy. We had lobster tacos which had mango salsa on it (delicious!). The tacos come with 2. The fish taco was so purple from the cabbage and seasoned so well. Now, Be careful when paying and your sitting outside!! My debit card fell under the boardwalk and it's too deep to grab it and not enough space you to receive it. That was a flop. Just be aware the clips are not secure enough to keep the Bill and card together. Overall. This was a good place. Not good for a quick bite and i was a bit upset it took the waitress long for water, the check, our boxes etc but the quality of the food is good. This is the kind of place you come here for the nice summer outside vibe and kick back with a drink, after a walk on the boardwalk in Long Beach. Your here for the environment and the dining experience outside that's pretty much it. You don't necessarily come here just for the food. Although the chicken nachos were good. I had a pineapple drink which I thought was just merely ok, watered down and not strong. Lacked flavor. The nachos is what saved them Overall 3.5/5 stars Good beach vibes more than anything else. Good food, but terrible management/service (primarily poor interaction with the manager on July 3rd). A few things: I pointed out multiple price differences from the menu to the bill. It happened on a few different items. The only reason I started paying attention to details for the bill is they had brought me a canned beer that felt like it had been sitting in the sun all day. The manager came out, tried to first say it was our fault, then said he would fix the issue. Then, they "rectified" the bill by duplicating items on the bill rather than removing. We then had to ask for another correction off of the second bill that "conveniently" had items duplicated in their favor. I honestly feel bad for the highschool kids working here, but the manager tried to blame us for charging different rates than the menu, and then tried to "double charge" us as well for items. I wonder if that is their business model, to overcharge from the menu rates? Food was good though, scammy/possibly illegal? Business practices read more

I've been to this place a few times so far since they've reopened and have been super impressed. They have arguably one of the best locations in Long Beach, great staff, drinks & food! My favorite drinks so far have been the watermelon martini & the kumquat margarita. The catch of the day (when I was there, swordfish) was prepared nicely, and the lamb pasta was also fantastic. When I went back I had the mussels as well which were really nice. They have great outdoor seating basically on the beach with umbrellas and heaters when it's chillier. I pretty much have nothing bad to say about this place and can't wait to return! read more

Just has dinner at Five Ocean. Two previous visits, food was excellent. Tonight the food was very flavorful but the octopus appetizer was undercooked and swimming in dressing . Main course, seared tuna also swimming in coconut sauce. Would suggest that anyone ordering these plates , ask for dressing or sauce on the side. Not a super impressive curb appeal but exactly what you would expect and like a beach cafe to look like. Outside seating facing the beach and ocean. Small but very efficient bar inside along with inside seating. And now the food.....EXCELLENT. We started with a fresh beet salad and some tuna tacos. Both were winners and the tuna tacos had a great flavor because of the soy ginger marinade which was not over done but just perfect. My guest had buttermilk fried chicken which she claims was over the top. My choice was red wine braised short ribs which can be very rich but Five Ocean knows how to do it right. Well since we went that far we went the extra yard and banged down a banana Nutella chimichanga to finish off a great meal. Friendly staff and knowledgeable bartender. Parking can be a challenge in the summer months. Obviously easier to get a reservation in this small restaurant and easier parking in the off season. Definitely worth the trip. read more

We ordered our meal and the waiter "forgot" one of the dishes so only one was delivered. Not sure if it was his fault of the kitchen thought it was only one order because we both ordered the same thing. We did however make it VERY clear we were both ordering the same thing and even joked about it. We also waited for our food for an hour and a half. We told them to scrap the other order because we had somewhere to go but they made no efforts to give us a discount or amend their mistake at all. HORRIBLE experience. Don't go here. Drinks: I understand that places often put less alcohol in drinks to save money, but this was an extreme. I could've sworn there was no alcohol in my drink, and it didn't taste very good. Food: For a place on the ocean, the seafood was not fresh at all. When oysters come out covered in ice and the second after you order them, just don't eat them. The tuna crostini was also just overly marinated and average. For the price, the food was disappointing. They have a ribeye listed on the menu but didn't actually have it/had sirloin, but they charged the same price? And the lobster orecchiette was just not tasty. Maybe we're biased since it was our first dine-in restaurant experience since March, but we had such a great lunch at Five Ocean! We ate there around 12pm on a Friday before July 4th. We didn't get to sit outside since they had reservations coming in, but we sat inside their well-ventilated restaurant with all windows/doors open and a few fans on. There were 2 other tables socially distanced from us, and 2 pairs at the bar on opposite ends. All the waiters had masks on. We were super hungry and ordered the pork nachos, lobster tacos, fried chicken tacos, and a side of fries. We also got two refreshing fruit juices (Long Beach with cucumber purée and lime juice, and the jamiaca with hisbicus). The fruit drinks were so refreshing and perfect for our beach break. We LOVED the lobster tacos- perfectly flavored and stuffed with lobster!! The pork nachos were also great with tons of guac, roast pork, mozzarella cheese and sour cream mixed in, tomatoes. Warning: you get a BUCKET of nachos, see photos for size reference. The fried chicken tacos were good but unfortunately for us, we don't like sweet chicken and this one had honey and hints of cinnamon. The chicken was tender and fried perfectly and topped with lots of cabbage. If you enjoy southern sweet fried chicken, definitely order it. We'll definitely return for the unforgettable lobster tacos and fruit juices!! And pork nachos if we have two more people with us, lol. What a perfect cafe for a break from the beach! Wow! Where do I begin. I showed up a little earlier then our reservation and spoke with the manager I think. I let him know I was definitely a little early for our reservation but he went out of his was checking and everything to see if he could squeeze us in and he did. We started off with a Paloma and Long Island Iced Tea(they made specially for my girlfriend) and both drinks were phenomenal. For an appetizer I tried the special I think which was a lobster bisque. The soup was delicious. It was so creamy and tasted extremely fresh. I've never had lobster bisque that had such big pieces of lobster in it. It was absolutely amazing. My girlfriend got a salad and a side of truffle fries. She's usually picky with her salads. But was in love with the fresh tomatoes and she's not a fan of avocado so I stole them from her and used them as my "sauce" for the shared truffle fries. It was delicious. They must use some unique type of seasoning because I couldn't put a name on it but again it was delicious as well. For my entree I got the fish of the day. The second I touched the flounder it was falling off as it should. It was so tender and soft. Basically cooked to perfection. It looked like a beautiful plate as well. Much different then what I was expecting since this place is so close to the west end. It's like the final Fine Dining before entering the west end. It's been a while since my girlfriend and I have left somewhere saying how amazing the food, ambiance, views, etc are from a place near by but I haven't left a restaurant so happy in a long time. Seth was our waiter and he was hilarious but still serious at the same time. He took wonderful care of us, constantly checking up on us and making sure everything was going smooth. This place is very unassuming. It's right on the end of the beach and it's just random. I went with the mussels which were absolutely delicious. Sometimes they can be fishy and I can't eat them but I ate every single one and then 2 loaves of bread. The drink I had I think was strawberry Basil or watermelon basil. This is a promising little place by the ocean, unique in that it's full service with a full bar right on the beach as opposed to just counter service like other boardwalk options. I was drawn in by the promise of an interesting rotating menu, creative cocktails , and happy hour advertised on Facebook from 3-7. When we arrived at 6pm I asked the hostess about the happy hour as she seated us and she said our waiter will tell us about it. The waiter shows up and upon asking, he tells us happy hour 3-6. Well it's 6:05 and the promotion said 3-7. To which he responds "well you can still get happy hour at the bar." Okay, well we're already seated despite having asked the hostess already. It's totally reasonable that happy hour would only be at the bar but a little communication and clarity upon entering the restaurant would be nice. This type of thing should be easy and seamless. Anyway we ordered a dark n stormy and a peach mule, both were nice and strong although the mule was a bit too sweet in my opinion. For dinner we ordered rock shrimp and Korean tacos. Overall I thought the food was pretty good, I love flavor/fat/seasoning but still thought the food would have fared better with like 15% less oil and salt. My husband liked his shrimp though. I'm not such a tough customer to please, especially in my hometown of Long Beach where I'm more emotionally invested in local businesses succeeding. Which is why I will still give 4 stars despite my "eh" first experience. Overall service was friendly and quick, views were great, we enjoyed a talented live musician, and the menu choices were interesting. Horrible service and mediocre food. Went here for my birthday with friends and my fiancé, and was greeted with no hello, but "do you have a reservation?" When the restaurant only had one table with people at the time. We said no, and the person (manager?) said he would look to see if they had any room...... The food portions were so small, and it wasn't even great. With the prices i was expecting more for sure. My friend and her husband even had an issue with our waitress. They ordered two dishes to share, and a duplicate dish was brought out. After returning the extra dish to another waiter and getting the bill, the charge was still there. After questioning the charge, waitress said "but you ordered two" (literally everyone heard them order two plates to share). Instead of just saying "oh, my bad". she sat there questioning them and going to who looked like the manager and started making snarky comments - that we heard from our table. And you have to get the lobster nachos....they melted in your mouth and are an awesome sharing plate. These fools just completely screwed me over. I had a confirmed reservation in APRIL for a group of 12 on June 15. I have been calling and leaving voicemails AND emails to confirm the details. I just now (June 9) reached the same person who took and confirmed my reservation and he very nonchalantly informed me that they are now CLOSED on Tuesdays! This place is a literal mess. We asked the hostess if there is an outdoor bar and she said yes we call it "the railing". It's just seats crammed against the wood ..railing -no bar. We order a beer , a margarita and water. They gave us a different beer and we never got the margarita or waters. I am writing this review as I am sitting at a table. Overlooking the water. On a back deck. Music is playing, there's a breeze off the water, families are enjoying brunch alongside of slightly hungover beach goers like myself. The vibe is exactly what you'd want for a Sunday in August in Long Beach. Mellow and positive. Now for the important stuff: food! This is my 4-5th time coming here and honestly I haven't had a bad meal yet. This morning I went with breakfast tacos but seriously everything on the menu is good.
