Decided to try something new and went here for dinner with my parents and a friend. It was a slow Tuesday night and even though there were a couple waiters running around, they still failed to pay us any proper attention. I've seen bad reviews for this place and was hesitant to go but my husband and I just finished lunch there and it was great. We sat outside in the warm sun (& nice atmosphere). I had the curry chicken sandwich and he had the wedge salad. I don't think the prices are too high... if you're eating in West Linn or Lake Oswego and you're complaining about the prices, head to another city and you'll find food that matches the prices you're willing to pay. Decent hors d'ouvres and cocktail menu but get me a fire extinguisher! I put my best brave face on and puckered up to a habanero infused vodka and mango martini and POW! I couldn't do it. It was like drinking (barely sipping) the juice from a jar of peppers. The waitress was kind enough to exchange it for a lemon drop -- easy mainstay. We had a variety of appetizers, all very nicely displayed and tasty. Nothing stands out as amazing, but a great place to stop by with a girlfriend after work. We were here on a Thursday evening for happy hour and I guess I expected a bit more of a crowd. Ok, ANY OTHER PEOPLE AT ALL would have been nice. Let's just say we had great personal service. Maybe it was the sunshine, and the habanera infused margarita, but I thought my food was beyond wonderful. We sat at the outdoor patio, which was clean and comfy, I also hear that in the summers they do outdoor music by the seating area as well, which might be worth checking out. Menu was a little pricy for me but really it wasn't bad. I had the mac and cheese, which was made with guyere and black truffle oil. The portion was large, and for $10 it really was fantastic!!!! Probably the best mac and cheese that I have ever had. It was baked cheesy goodness and the flavors were wonderful. Their speciality cocktails all looked wonderful and were all about $8 or $9. The service was pleasent and the restaurant is fara better then what I expected. We had the Brulee Banana Split, which I would HIGHLY recommend. Home made ice cream with Brulee'd banana and caramel sauce. So good, but I recomend splitting it as it's pretty sweet and they give you a pretty nice portion. Will defininitely be back to try happy hour when mac and cheese is only $5.00. It's located in sort of a random spot, but maybe I only think it's random because I'm from inner se portland. read more

503 is a great bistro type neighborhood restaurant that it seems has gone through some growing pains (per some friends who dine there often). I think they have really worked out a lot of the kinks in the kitchen as well as the front of the house. We had a nice meal, shared a salad (good), and duck spring rolls (great) and a bottle of wine to start. I ordered pork cheeks and it was tender, moist and presented nicely. The flavors were a bit on the shy side, but not off putting. I would try that dish again. The husband-unit ordered the southern fried chicken and apparently liked it, as he didn't leave any on his place. He said he's had much worse. I think it, too, was a bit lacking on seasonings, but it was still good to great he said. The atmosphere is West Linn feel with open concept, bistro-ish. It's on the sleek side with a casual elegance all it's own. Wine list is thorough and we appreciate all the different regions offered and heavily focused on PNW! We'll be back, as we hear Happy Hour is great on the patio during better weather. read more

Ok, I have tried to like this place. I know people who rave about it, but something just doesn't do it for me. After visiting once on a holiday and being extremely disappointed with the portion to price ratio, a friend told me that my mistake was not going for happy hour. After trying out happy hour, I still feel like the prices didn't equate with what we were eating. The food wasn't bad, it's just that for the price point they are charging, I expect to be wowed. In their defense, during the summer I have walked by and noticed that they have great live music. The outdoor tables and band make for a very nice atmosphere, and I would consider going back for an outdoor happy hour. read more

It isn't every day I am surprised, but 503 did just that! We started with the calamari, which was crisp on the outside and tender inside, served with a lime, cilantro sauce and it was incredibly tasty and the sauce was light and refreshing. Great balance. Each table received an hors d'œuvre of pate' on toast points with mustard and pickle, this was incredible! One of the best pate's I have ever sampled (and I dabble in pate often)! Obviously, made on site with pride. For our mains, we had the pork shoulder (boneless) served with rice and wilted spinach greens. Savory, perfectly seasoned, we would re-order this upon a return visit. We also had the kobe beef chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and foie gras gravy. Rich and flavorful, this did not disappoint. Steak was a bit tough, but it was an actual steak that was breaded and fried, with amazing flavors, it disappeared with help of my dining companion! The service was on the tragic side, initially. We waited 10 minutes for a drink and even longer to order, but they were uncharacteristically busy per our server. Our entress came out slow, but it was well worth any additional wait. Part way through, we were given another server and she corrected any misgivings we had. All and all, a wonderful meal in the burbs. The food is comparable to any NE/SE or downtown/Pearl restaurant chef could produce! I'd like to add, the portions were moderate to large and prices were very affordable for the super delish food! It seems they made some corrections to the prior issues mentioned in previous reviews regarding price and food quality. read more

It's nice to be able to "go downtown" every once in a while with out actually having to go downtown, and Five Oh Three gives you the chance to do just that. Attentive staff who know their menu and aren't afraid to give a real recommendation (no tired "I like everything" lines), a broad selection of delicious dishes and a classy but comfortable environment. My personal favorite is the 36 hour braised short-ribs. As an added bonus, most of their food/wine is locally sourced and sustainably farmed - so you're helping the cause while enjoying a great meal. p.s. those of you who think it's "overpriced" must not go to real restaurants very often... read more

Great Place....Just Lacking Greatness! 5-0-3 has me a little perplexed. It's a welcoming and friendly place, very clean and spacious, and I feel like the service is quite good. I've only been here for lunch, and considering evening hours are the busy times I wonder based on other reviews how well they really do. For some reason there's something here that doesn't quite work all the way. Food wise it's a little of everything and a limited menu at lunch. Fresh local ingredients are dished up in an array of salads, burgers, fried chicken, gourmet mac n' cheese, etc. It has a Southern charm to its menu in general but the quality of the ingredients lift it way up. No mashed potatoes and gravy smothered business here! I think the feeling you get walking inside is that it would have grilled chicken and wood fired pizza instead. It's not particularly vegetarian friendly, but I didn't mind. I had a mixed green salad and a side of fries. The salad tasted very nice, a mesculin mix of greens with a few slices of apple and a handful of blue cheese crumbles. Nice tangy vinaigrette that didn't overpower the freshness of the veggies. It really could have used from slivered almonds or walnuts to balance it out and give some crunch and some protein since it was an entree item. The fries were great. Hand cut with skin on, crispy without being greasy, and some quality sea salt. I think where this place loses steam for me is value. $8 for a salad of just greens and a few bits of apple and cheese crumbles is a little silly. When it's over $13 with the fries and an iced tea not including tip.......well.....I think there's a lot better value lunch places for me out there. We booked a reservation for Valentines dinner at 6:45pm. We weren't seated for about 20 minutes. But, it gets worse. When the waitress came, she failed to tell us that our appetizers wouldn't be served until we ordered our entire dinner choices. She said our puff pastries would be served shortly. However, when nothing was served, we caught her attention and got the scoop that we had to order our entire dinner. Then,she said they were out of the steaks and had been for about an hour...which means as of 6:30pm. Seriously? So, we picked other options ..not happy. Then, we waited for about 35 minutes with nothing served..not even bread. We finally told her we were leaving after she said they were very busy and we could see her talking with another waitress behind the bar looking at us. Ended up buying sandwiches at the grocery store and saved alot of money!! They should have been way more prepared for Valentines!! May never go back...bad service and snappywaitress...not customer service oriented. read more

Nice wine list. Great burger but not a huge fan of the skinny fries. Paella was ok - rice was a little undercooked. Chocolate mousse torte was tasty and the marscapone semifreddo was amazing. WoW! What has happened to this once very slick restaurant?! Beginning to look old, worn & uninspired. We arrived on the second day of a very sunny & warm weekend and unlike every other restaurant in town, they were woefully unprepared for the nice weather But that aside, we ordered an appetizer of tempura veggies and out of the possibly 5 or 6 vegetables presented, 3 were long, whole GREEN ONIONS. Inedible, we sent them back. No offer to replace the inappropriate "vegetable"-- no offer to take remove the item from our bill. Just weird. My drink was good, but food was disappointing. Five 0 Three has a new food service called 'SUP . Three dinners with ample portions, all different and ready to cook. That a wonderful and cost effective option. The three dinners we just picked up all look wonderful. We had the Jambalaya last night and it was excellent! Very clear instructions are included with easy cook/heat up instructions. I have to admit, the only reason I went to Five-O-Three is because my friend took advantage of Groupon's $1 lunch deal. It wouldn't have crossed my mind otherwise. My friend got what she paid for... and I paid full-price. The ambiance was great, if you go for big and neutral. The ceiling is soaring, the art is over-sized and understated, the booth-backs are high and private and the colors are neutral - black, beige, cream... and more black. It definitely gives off the feel of high-end. The music selection was a big plus for my friend and I - a little Mumford and Sons is good for the soul. But let's be honest, decor does not a restaurant make and food is where Five-O-Three falls short. My friend's lunch was forgettable - a sandwich or something? I ordered the quiche of the day... and I'm not sure it was from that day. It was tiny, flat and the crust was dry. At least it was hot. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't awful... but I honestly could have gotten bigger and better at a chain family-style restaurant. I certainly could have gotten better service. Maybe it's just the lunch hour that sucks swamp water. If it shows up on Groupon or Mobba or Living Social or something, maybe I could be persuaded to give dinner a shot - I certainly won't pay full-price again. It's a good thing the Bloody Mary's were reasonably priced... they were the highlight of the meal. Maybe you have to be a bit tipsy to fully appreciate Five-O-Three? read more

Five O Three is fabulous! Delicious appetizers. The Pao Pao Fried Shrimp, and Steamed Manilla Clams, were almost impossible to stop eating!!! Unbelievable wine list. Creative cocktails as well as classic choices. My special, the grilled Mahi Mahi, had layers upon layers of flavor and texture. Dessert of Tiramisu with Spanish Coffee was the perfect finish. I love the atmosphere, the staff were attentive and efficient. Will definitely come back when for music on the patio. read more

Tonight is our 30th wedding anniversary. We were headed to Hawaii...and then, COVID19. We ordered take-out from Five-O-Three and it was fantastic. From the very cheerful man who took our phone order to the fabulous food, I our experience was top notch. The crab cakes were tasty and cooked perfectly, the steak skewers were flavorful and the veggie kabob alongside was a perfect combo...the corn on the cob was a fun addition. From the affordable wine list to the dynamic menu (not to mention the friendly staff) I am always left satisfied. Now to reference the previous post left by "Sabrina E.". I was witness to the whole situation, from the point where you walked in with your family, the staff did nothing but attend to your tables needs. I am not sure exactly what happened at your table, but I will tell you this, lady you were out of line. As I am trying to enjoy my dinner with my fiancee I hear your loud screech. I turn only to see you standing at the kitchen waving your arms in the air yelling at the top of your lungs about a spoon while belittling the staff. When you were asked to leave you did nothing but argue and make the situation more awkward for everyone involved, especially the other customers who were trying to enjoy their meals. The gall you have woman; for making that review trying to play the victim; when you were obviously the instigator. Get it together lady. On a good note, we had a great meal. We both shared the salmon cake appetizer with the sweet corn salsa and a spicy green sauce which left us both wishing we had ordered our own. And for entrees, I had the gnocchi bolognese and my fiancee ate the salmon special which were both cooked on-point (nothing worse than overcooked salmon) and all of the seasonal flavors tied in perfectly. I have tried many times to give this place a chance as it is close by. However, I have had nothing but terrible service here. There have been times we have arrived early before happy hour is over and the staff had stalled on seating us, then the servers don't come by for 15 minutes, only to announce that we missed happy hour. Fine. I get it. But don't offer HH if you are doing to look down on those who try to come for it. Tonight I thought I'd give them another chance after months of staying away. I even went post happy hour. I called ahead and asked if I could sit outside and bring my dog. The man on the phone said that was fine and to come on by. The hostess brought me to the table they had reserved for me. Then some man came over and told me dogs weren't allowed. I explained that I called ahead a few minutes prior and was told it was fine. He looked at me like I was a liar. Then he told me his hostess was new. I told him I spoke with a man. He still seemed to think I was lying. Finally I just left. I'm all for supporting local business but these people don't deserve my business, dog with me or not. read more

Went for the live music and took a chance on the menu. The music was great though kind of loud. The food was so-so. I order the Steak Frites. I asked for a medium steak and received blue-rare. The frites were interesting, not in a good way. Mixing spinach, blue cheese and a red-wine reduction just didn't work for me. The wine made the fries soggy. It was like someone was shooting for a new age Poutine. They missed the target. My wife ordered the special, stuffed cod. It wasn't that special. The only thing she had to say about it was bland. The weirdness continued when halfway through our meal the wait staff set up a line of chairs in front of the tables They were there to listen to the music but not eat dinner, We ended up with an audience watching us eat. read more

This is a stereotypical suburban wine bar/restaurant. Wine was pretty good, food was good, service was good. Prices were a little high, but overall nothing to complain about. I rarely venture to the suburbs to eat, but if you're in the West Linn area, this is a good place for a glass of wine with a friend. read more

Ooo nice cool atmosphere and a great happy hour after 9 pm. Geez everything else is closed around here... But at the five oh three you can grab excellent food for bargain prices! Forgot I was in west linn! The truffle Mac and cheese is creamy and lightly seasoned but packs that familiar zing on your tongue. Pomme frites were surprisingly good, covered with a reduction of balsamic and bleu cheese. I normally stay away from potatoes but found myself eating fry after fry. Ahi tartare was ok, fish was as fresh as I've had in Portland and flavored nicely with chives, olive oil and wasabi. The golden crispy fried calamari was light and cooked well, the cocktail sauce was a little too ketchupy, but complimented the little squids. The freshly made hummus was tasty, but the house salad dressing didn't match the rest of the food in depth... Just a plain tasting vinegarette. The port tonic drink was great, almost like drinking a fine old scotch. Maybe not in complexity, but the drink was smooth a anything I've had. The food here is refined, the menu was thought out well and it is evident that the chef is both creative and talented! read more

I am so happy I made the drive out to this restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious! I bought a voucher on Sharing Spree and otherwise would not have known this place existed. I had the gnocchi, which was served with a delightful bolognaise sauce. My dad had the paella and everything was absolutely scrumptious. The staff was lovely, the waiter even quieted my crying baby and gave her a toy. I would highly recommend this fabulous restaurant! read more
