This was my second time in to Pete's in about a two week period. Both times I ordered via DoorDash…read morefor pickup. The first time, I still had about a 10-15 minute wait even after the app said my food was ready. This second time, I was able to get my order right away when I walked in. The staff is always friendly regardless of wait time. The restaurant is really a grab and go location; there isn't sufficient space or set-up for dining in. Each time I've been, there has been consistent for traffic in and out, so it's pretty popular. On my first visit (while standing around waiting for my order to be ready), I learned from listening to other ppl order that there is a lunch special where the meals featuring chicken are cheaper. I believe it goes thru 1pm. In my first visit, I tried lots of things and was largely disappointed in the taste. I had the brown stewed chicken and oxtail meals (both ordered with heavy gravy), a turkey wing, a chicken soup, and coco bread. The oxtails were the only thing I truly enjoyed. The sides on the meals were just okay except the plantains. The plantains were hard and dry, truly inedible. The chicken soup wasn't flavorful enough; I wouldn't order it again. For me, the turkey wing seasoning was too spicy, but my husband enjoyed it. On this second visit, I went only to pick up two turkey wings for my husband, as he has continued to talk about trying the turkey wing again. He ate them both for dinner along with some homemade rice a d veggies. He wanted to order sides but I discouraged that based on the first experience. Pete's is located in a strip mall that seems to have some other Caribbean businesses, including a market next door. The parking lot has an approaching need for repavement and line repainting. *uploaded pics are from first visit*

I really like that they have different sizes to choose from because most Jamaican places have one huge size. They have small, medium and large. I got the small and it really filled me up.

So tip: don't turn back just because it looks dark from the outside. On the other side of the door, I found a very friendly person (I'm assuming the owner) who talked me through traditional Jamaican breakfast options and insisted I try the food before buying it. I was pretty sure I wanted to try ackee and saltfish so that's where we focused. It was delicious and he gave me both dumplings (plain bread) and festival (slightly sweet bread) on the side since I didn't know which I'd like. My fave is the festival. Since I don't like super sweet things, I loved it. I had my husband (who loves sweets) taste it and he said it was like funnel cake without the powdered sugar If you're a newbie like me: I learned that you're supposed to eat the ackee and saltfish like your meat and then add a starch (dumpling, festival, boiled yam, etc.). All in all, I enjoyed it, but I wasn't full enough after it. To be fair tho, I didnt finish the starches. probably to be expected, the bit I did eat (which was about 80% of a dumpling and a festival) made me tired/sluggish. That said I would absolutely go back....just no heavy starches at the top of my day!

Gave this restaurant a one time try with my son and NEVER AGAIN!!! First issue....Dominican…read morerestaurant but most of the food is Puerto Rican. How do I know, was married to a PR for years. Nothing wrong with a Dominican place cooking PR food but just make sure that its executed well. My son ordered baccalaito and was shocked by the presentation....it was inside a red sauce. Well this dish is normally made with fried cod fish fritters. I ordered alcapurria....0 flavor in the beef, had a weired rectangle shape and it was darkly burned. Which let us know that this restaurant owner doesnt care about the food quality. Thank god that I only ordered the alcapurria and not a full plate. Wont be returning!

Which were all denied out of being told they weren't offering any of those (sandwiches, salads) due to being too busy. Then were blindly charging an amount that does not match their online pricing. Even if they are not affiliated with DoorDash anymore for example, they should make sure it is completely removed and have an updated menu created if needed. If their prices have went up, it is at a restaurant rate when they are not a restaurant. When called out on this, the pricing was matched closer to what I manually tallied. I heard ownership has changed, making me question if that's why this experience took place vs very different experiences in the past. At that point, I used to constantly order lunch from here and do large catering orders for house parties of 50-80+ people. This created such a terrible taste, it will be the last time I order with them. I hope to see they do better and don't permanently ruin what was once so great. The food used to remind me of NY Bodega food. Now, no where near the same taste or quality. I'm so disappointed and upset I spent $$ on this.
