Perhaps if the buzz hadn't been so positive I wouldn't have expected so much and the review your about to read wouldn't be so scathing. The fries were everything I hate in fries--soggy, tasted like they had been under lights forever, over-cooked. The burger was okay, but if you live in North Jersey, just head over to White Manna. This location is great, and as opposed to other locations, they have a huge soda selection, which includes much more diet options than just the Diet Coke typically offered. I would suggest trying a single hamburger on a bun rather than a double, because it is filling. Also a word to the wise: the fries come plentiful in a bag. read more

I think this would be the best burger place I have ever visited. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because I did not like the fries. But let me back up to the beginning..... First of all - don't even attempt to walk in if you are allergic to peanuts. They have an unlimited amount stashed everywhere - you can grab as many as you want. Once you get up to the counter, it should take only a couple of seconds to make up your mind on what to order. The menu is super limited, but it's okay because the burgers are delicious. They are the only think you really need in order to have a good experience. They also have hot dogs and grilled cheese if your not into burgers. Oh and all the toppings are free - you can have as many as you want. When it comes to fries you you can have either small or large - regular or cajun. The cajun are better than the regular and the small is enough to feed about three people. Oh and they are hand cut - if you like that kind of kind of fries. Prices are cheap - you can feed 5 grown adults for $40. Not to bad if you think about it. read more

I can understand some of the negative reviews about this chain. However, I eat here, and like it, because it just tastes good. I like all the toppings on the burger, and how its "juicy well-done". I like how the fries are not crispy and a bit greasy. I like how you can get free peanuts, though god knows I can barely finish the burger and fries let alone have room for peanuts. Its different, and I think for a greasy binge its a great treat. The ONE negative comment I have is that when they put the burger in the bag first and then put the molten lava hot fries on top of it, its rather unpleasant trying to dig through the fries while deep frying my hand trying to get the burger out. These comments are more chain related than individual location related. 1) Almost $26 for two hamburgers (not cheeseburgers) 1 fries, and two shakes is simply too expensive in my opinion. I would not go back. 2) I didn't know that their regular burger was a double burger. I assume their "little burger" is a single? This wasn't clear on the menu...or perhaps I missed it. 3) they have 2 different listed Oreo shakes, one "cream", one "cookie pieces". Self-explanatory? I don't know. New to me. What do they do....strain the cookies out? Not a big deal but when I ordered an Oreo Shake she asked me if I wanted pieces in it. Odd to me. Personally I don't care about the free all u can eat peanuts (it doesn't seem like a natural compliment to a burger) or all the "free" toppings - as if they should ever charge for mustard or mayo or lettuce. I first discovered 5 guys in 2009 and it's been love at first sight since then. I consider myself a burger aficionado and I have to say 5 guys are a welcome relief to all those other burger joints like that that rip off smash burger and zinburger. Let me give you a little helpful advice on how to order at 5 guys 1. The burgers are a little pricey but regular burger comes with 2 patties the "little" burgers are 1 patty plus all the toppings are FREE, so stack that burger with all the fixins, so that $8 burger seems a little more reasonable 2. Everything is Ala carte, but it makes up for it in quantity 3. Fries are delicious, they come in 3 different sizes small, that seems a bit excessive and did they just give a separate paper bag JUST for my fries, seriously the first time I went and ordered fries my eyes went bugger then the moon when I saw the amount 3. The milkshakes are fantastic 4. Their dogs are good, but not as good as rutts hut, sorry but they are in a different universe when it comes to dogs at rutt's hut 5. Complimentary peanuts, that's right who doesn't love free peanuts, I always make sure to take advantage of that All in all excellent place, great service and atmosphere read more

Super chocolate milkshake . Love the fries too; plenty of them in a brown bag. Then you add the malt vinegar. Yum ! Pretty disappointed with the burger though. Sloppy and unmanageable. My husband had the BLT and it was nothing but a cold roll with wet lettuce, half-ripe tomato, and crumbled cold bacon. We ate there, and the music selection was awful and too loud. Yum! I love coming here for lunch. I always get the bacon cheeseburger, fries and a milkshake. Food is usually done pretty quickly (even if it took long I wouldn't care because the food is great) The location is very convenient right off of Rt. 23 in Wayne. read more

Much trepidation about this because of the plethora of recommendations by locals. Who know nothing about food. Wow what a pleasant surprise. Three stars only because of the cafeteria style atmosphere, loud ambient noise level, location in a difficult to get to strip mall with a crowded parking lot. Pretty good as far as fast food burgers go. Blows McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, etc. right out of the water. The quality of the fries is inconsistent. Sometimes they are undercooked. They are also often over or under seasoned. I LOVE their new soda machine. You choose the type of soda you want, then the flavor. I've read that it is purely for coke's statistical research. Weather or not that's the case, I'm all about the diet cherry coke. They have a couple of male employees that will flirt with you, no matter how disinterested you seem. One of them has even made borderline lewd comments right to my face, and stared and tried to get my attention while I was eating. Fun place. You can snack on peanuts while you wait in line (the fries are cooked in peanut oil). Hamburger was really good (I got the big cheeseburger) especially considering its $6. Their burgers are the best out of all the fast food franchises. Also their cheese dogs are exceptional. They offer online ordering for a fast pickup. They make everything fresh as ordered. A coworker recommended this place a while back and I haven't had the chance to come and visit until recently. It's next to one of my favorite spots in the area, Baja Fresh. Opting to try something new, I decided to hit this place up with a friend of mine. I wasn't expecting anything fantastic but I was quite pleasantly surprised. Fast-food burger joints tend to be fast on service and later on will make you run to the bathroom just as fast (if you're catching my drift). But I have to honestly say that the burger was rather quite delicious. Ordering is simple enough. Pick your burger, add toppings, decide if you want fries, and grab soda from their awesome soda machine. I actually spent most of my time staring at the soda machine and all it's glory. It's like an iPad that spits out whatever flavored soda you want (can somebody say lime and orange Fanta mix!!!). anyways the burger was juicy, the fries were delicious, although it could have used more of a kick for it to truly be called Cajun, and the endless supply of peanuts to munch on made for a great visit. Ask me if I would come again and my answer is absolutely in a heart beat, that is if my heart doesn't stop from all the grease I would consume coming here! read more

Was surprised by how fresh the burgers and fries were. Ordered a cheeseburger "loaded" w jalapeno peppers. Was $8 for the burger (double patty). Some of the best burgers and fries you can get including non chain places. The fries are always farm sourced and signage inside tells you where they are from. They also have buckets of peanuts available for snacking. The Cajun fries are excellent, nice and crispy and well seasoned. They dump a whole bunch of extra's in the bag I cant ever finish them all. to top it off the prices are very reasonable. writing this review is making me want to go there right now.
