It's time to start locking in! So this afternoon was probably one of the busiest afternoons I've had so far this year. Between going in to the Bottle Refund at the Stop & Shop on this same plaza and then making my way over to a storage unit I have over on Captain Neville, I decided to come here for lunch. Prior to this, I have only ever eaten at Five Guys in Norwalk. So about Five Guys, I hear mixed things about the cleanliness of the fast food franchise. As a child, I would be told that Five Guys was a very dirty fast food establishment where a lack of hygiene from employees would tell stories to others. Then I have heard that Five Guys is actually kept clean because managers are afraid an inspector might come in at any moment. At the end of the day, if you're gonna go to Five Guys, you have to form your opinion. Don't take others at their own word! For my visit to this location, I went with a bacon cheeseburger with A-1 Steak Sauce (yes, you can actually get that as a fast food condiment), the Little Fries because I know the bag normally gets loaded with fresh-cut fries, even with the smallest size, and a large soda. Today's fries apparently were shipped all the way from St. Anthony, Idaho, wherever that is. Still, the fries came out piping hot which is always a good thing, and they weren't bland at all. The burger tasted fine, nothing wrong with it. The A-1 Steak Sauce you can kind of taste, but there were some places where the cheese didn't completely melt (I prefer my sliced cheeses to have a good melt). It won't win any awards, but it'll get the job done. The ambiance I can get behind. It's actually decently clean, especially when you compare it to other fast food places such as a McDonald's or Chipotle. Even the bathrooms are inviting. One touch I really liked was that the music played was a nice compliment to the atmosphere this place had. Songs I Shazamed here include but are not limited to "Black Holes (Solid Ground)" by The Stones, "She's Kerosene" by The Interrupters, and "Ready and Willing" by New Found Glory. The employees are okay. No one really stood out to me as "AMG THEY'RE AMAZING, MAKE THEM CEO RIGHT THIS SECOND", but on the flip side no one really stood out to me as particularly rude either. They're your run-of-the-mill fast food employees, and that's all you really need to know. Now, I know I am rating this a 3, but really, consider this more of a 3 and a half. The burger was pretty good. Fries were good but the portion was not as big as other Five Guys. However the prices are way too high for what you get. Texas Roadhouse is right down the street and the burger meal is similar in price and much better. I came in just after 1:00 p.m. so after the lunch rush (in fact I was the only one there ordering at the time) and I ordered Little Bacon Cheeseburger, plain, and a Little order of fries. Upon completion of the burger, my number was called and I was given a small bag - just the burger, no fries. I commented about it and she mumbled something and gave me my (lukewarm) fries and I left to eat on the road. Upon opening my burger, I found that my plain bacon cheeseburger had NO BACON. Very pricey for a burger joint. However, they have the BEST burgers. The service is not the quickest. But that's because they make the food fresh. However expensive, the portions at five guys are humongous. When you get fries, they put more than the amount in the cup in the bag. Brand new Fives Guys! Everything is immaculate--the food, space, and service. I got my usual, bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions and bbq sauce with an order of fries, it was delicious! I went to Five Guys, after deciding to try something else. Knowing this location was new, I have not been to one In years, so I decided to try this one. I went In and all I wanted was a burger and my I didn't realize how expensive they are. Toppings are free but my burger was almost ten dollars, no fries or drink. Now I know this aint Mcdonalds so It's not gonna be that fast. My order went In at 1:06 Pm and I got my order at about twenty minutes or so later. I took my burger to the car and was about to eat It. When I opened It up this Is what I saw. My order was a cheeseburger with tomato/onions/ketchup/mustard. I got all that with no burger. So back In we go and I explain my problem so I have to say the guy helping me was nice and remade my order. It's just to wait that long and have your order messed up just Is not good, and by the way to get a burger fries and drink your talking $25.00 or so. Just not worth It. read more

Five Guys is hit or miss. The only Five Guys I would recommend is in Glastonbury. Five Guys Middletown got me violently ill. Never ate there again. This review is about Waterbury though. Not eating there again either. My first and last time. Either they intentionally deviate from the standard of Five Guys or they are poorly trained. I spent $85 including a regrettable 15% tip. The staff is pleasant and professional. The food quality (taste) is consistent with all Five Guys. The order was accurate related to providing what I ordered. The restaurant was clean. When anyone mentions Five Guys fries, you automatically think of the greasy cup filled to overflowing with fries, the bag leaking grease from the bag filled with fries they just dump in over your burgers already in the bag. This was the expectation based on countless experiences from other Five Guys. This is not what I got. I received one mostly filled large cup of fries neatly placed in the bag with my meal. At $7.69 for a large fry, I expect the same value I receive at other Five Guys. Again, either deviating intentionally to reduce cost or very poorly trained on a key element (selling point), of the company. I feel cheated out of $85. Four kids were disappointed. Waterbury Five Guys will not receive anymore of my money and I live in Waterbury eating out all the time. Very disappointed and not good for a relatively new restaurant. Their food is not exclusive. TLDR: If you are going to do over priced fast food of this type, you are probably better off going to Wayback Burgers. Better value all around. I don't mind paying for value. What I received though did not merit the high price tag imo. I ordered a cheese burger with small fries (no drink). $18 was way too high. On the plus side the order was freshly made on the grill, the meat was decent, and there were a LOT of fries. On the other hand there were a lot of little things that added up for me. The fries were not crispy, even though I ordered them well done (they did try in fairness to the staff). It was only 1/3 lb of meat which is not much for the price imo. When the chef put the 2 patties on the bun, she partly missed. 50% of one patty was hanging off the side. She made a half hearted attempt to fix but then just ignored it. The guy that wrapped it (the manager) also made a half hearted attempt to fix it but just decided to wrap it as is. in terms of cleanliness of the restaurant, they had a lot of staff but no one seemed to be working the dining area. There was trash and detritus on counters, dried drink spills on the floor, and the tables needed wiping down. In short, if you've never been to 5 Guys before it's probably worth trying once. But don't set your expectations too high. It's better than McDonalds but no where near enough better for the price point. Went to the new restaurant that just opened-up in Waterbury CT. We have been to other Five Guys before but it has been 4 - 5 years. I must admit that the food is very good BUT the prices are outrageous. We had 2 hamburgers and 2 milk shakes; the bill was $36.00!! We didn't realize that the regular hamburger comes with 2 meat patties; that made the price a little more palateable (pardon the pun). The hamburgers were $10.00 each (they do a single patty burger for $7 and change). If you want good burgers go to Five Guys; if you don't want to go broke go elsewhere!! read more

i ordered a little mushroom grilled onion cheese burger and a large fry. They did not include the onions on my burger, however the burger was not bad. The fries though, they did not seem fresh and had a LOT of salt! I mean I had all but 5 fries before I just threw the whole thing away. A wasted $8. The staff was very busy chatting amoungst each other and when the food wasnt exception as a customer you feel like the service just doesnt match the price of food being served. I hope management gets the staff and food quality under control or ill have to drive all the way to New Haven for a burger. read more
