I've been searching for a 'go to' CT grinder spot for years. I'm from CT where 'subs' were always referred to as 'grinders'. Over the years, and having purchased many of these types of sandwiches all over the country, I'd come to the conclusion that the main difference between a sub & a grinder was in the oil and in the fact that grinders had shredded lettuce. Nardelli's (a rewards club restaurant-for which I quickly applied prior to downloading their user friendly app & prior to ordering) proved to me that there are even more differences, mostly in the taste and texture. Natdelli's does it right! The only reason I gave them only 4 stars is because, although the bread was great, there was just too much of it and it almost over powered the grinder. read more

Ordered lunch during my break from this Nardelli's and the staff were so friendly and welcoming! This was my first time visiting this particular location and it certainly won't be my last. The sandwiches were packed full and were consistent with the freshness and deliciousness that I'm used to from the Naugatuck location! Plenty of seating and all of the tables were clean. The person working at the counter was extremely pleasant. However, the two sandwiches that I ordered had very little meat and the bread was not fresh. It was very disappointing. I usually go to the Nardelli's in Meriden CT and the sandwiches are thick and filled with meat. And, the bread fresh. I will not be going back to the Waterbury, CT Nardelli's. read more

Mmmm Nardeill's in my belly, what a nice treat. I called in the order and it was ready in 5 minutes, quick service always makes the experience better. I enjoyed a grilled chicken Caesar salad along side an Italian sub. Both of the items impressed me in size and flavor. On top of the delicious food and great service, the food was surprisingly cheap. Good stuff. Not my favorite sub shop in the world, but I would happily eat here any day of the week. I was visiting CT, and heard that Nardelli's was the famous sub/grinder/hoagie/hero place in the area. That being said, I had to try it out. They have an Italian deli sort of feel mixed with a franchise sorta feel when you first walk in. You order at the right and pay at the left, with a fountain soda machine and chips available. The different thing is that they sell stuff like cannoli and other random things you would not find at a Subway or something. To me, it is all about the bread. The bread tasted fresh, and was very filling. It was tall, chewy on the inside, with a nice crust. I got a whole instead of a half, and it was just way too much food for me. I wen with the steak while my friend went for a chicken salad sub. The steak was alright, but probably not the best thing on their menu. I should have gone the cold cut/lunchmeat route. I did treat myself to a cannoli, which was very good as well. In the end, I can see why this place is a popular spot, as everything was well done and the staff was friendly and fast. I was finally able to visit here. It was small with multiple tables to sit at. Besides sandwiches, they had lots of options to choose from salads to hot foods to desserts. The ordering at the counter was easy and my food was ready quickly. I went with the whole Italian combo ($8.95). It consisted of pruzitini (baked ham with black peppercorns), capicola, and salami. I ordered with their 'everything'. That consisted of mayonnaise, lettuce, tomatoes diced vegetables, provolone cheese, olives, and hot sauce. I asked for no hot sauce. The sandwich was big and had lots of meat and toppings. The bread was my favorite component. It was not too soft or hard, just the right balance. Brought home an Italian combo for my gf, I had the buffalo chicken sub (which was listed on the board as being "on special", but at the same price as the main menu -- so what is exactly "special" about that ?). The grinders were OK, my gf felt the tomatoes on hers were sliced very thin. Just not that inspiring. We also had a potato salad side, and a snickers cheesecake slice for dessert. Personally, I generally frequent the Nardelli's on Plank Rd, just because it's more convenient for me on my way home from work. However, I stopped here the other day just to see if there was any difference. Taste & quality-wise, absolutely not. This one is a little more cramped than the Plank Rd location, although it has the benefit of not abutting an on-ramp to 84. The interior of the Plank Rd. location is a little dumpier than this one. Service here, like the other one I go to is fantastic. I usually alternate between buffalo chicken, roast beef, or chicken salad. All solid choices. The cannoli and giant pickles are also great. And seriously? People complaining about portion size? A half a grinder is $6, and a whole is like $8. Mind you, these sandwiches are not as ridiculously stuffed as say, Carbones in Torrington, but they're still respectable nonetheless - in case you haven't been to a grocery store lately, deli meat isn't exactly cheap. Of course they're not going to load the sandwich with a pound and a half of cold cuts, be reasonable. A half grinder and a bag of chips is plenty for me most days - and if I'm particularly ravenous, then I can polish off a whole grinder - although I end up in a food coma afterwards lol read more

I usually go to the Plank Road Nardelli's as it's so much closer. However we were on the west side and decided to stop in to the Watertown Ave location. This one is much cleaner/brighter in appearance although a bit more cramped with space. The people working here are as friendly as the ones on Plank Road and as quick with service. I ordered a chicken cutlet with lettuce, tomatoes and just a little bit of mayo on a hard roll. Yeah, they listened and that is exactly what I got.. My Sidekick for the day got garlic chicken with sauce on a hard roll. We both agreed they were delicious. Each of us had birch beer and chips. The case has salads from potato to various pastas etc., You can get meatball, eggplant and many hot or cold dishes. The combo grinder seems to be a favorite. They have a "mix" that they put on the grinders but I ask for it to be omitted. Most people enjoy it but not me. They also have prepared garden style salads in the case. Plenty of sweets to decide from and I do have a sweet tooth. I miss Nardelli's when I'm in Florida. Truly difficult to find a good grinder shop like this down there ... I was never a big sandwich/wrap fan until switching to a plant-based diet. My friends and I were camping nearby and we came to Nardelli's for lunch. I got a half veggie grinder with no mayo/cheese and a side salad with no parmesan (I'm vegan), one friend got a half steak grinder, another friend got a half chicken cutlet grinder, and another friend got tuna salad, marinated mushrooms, and a side salad. The food was all delicious and fresh, and for ~$6 you get a huge half grinder on bread that is way better than what you'd get at a chain sandwich place. The employees were friendly and assembled the sandwiches incredibly quickly. I also love that they ring a bell and say "Grazie" when you put a tip in the tip box.
