Good food but some of the employees are passive aggressive (avoiding eye contact, being rude)

Duke's Counter - Wagyu burger and elote.... Yum

Wow this place must be popping when the zoo is really lively! It was the tail end of ZooLights, and…read moreit was busy, but my friend and I were able to grab bar seats. A friend invited me to go on a little Duke's tour with her, and this was our first stop. They were decked out in panda decor and had a charming menu. I was mainly there for their drinks, but I decided to try their quinoa salad too. What a hefty, satisfying salad! The butternut squash, goat cheese, and pumpkin seeds were the highlights. Based on this initial experience, I'd be back for sure. Good happy hour too. Now, this location may be a little out of my way, but thankfully there are closer Duke's.

The service when we went left a lot to be desired. It was busy for sure being a weekend but not overwhelming. There were empty tables inside. Even still, it took forever to get acknowledged at times just to take our order. If we hadn't asked someone walking by for the bill, we still may be there. We had an app of fries and then my main was the burger with fries. The fries were great. They are those style of pub fries that are crispy and delicious. The garlic aioli dip was a great pairing for them. The burger was fine. It wasn't anything out of this world but it was still good. All the toppings blended well with the burger. I felt it could have used some more flavor. Duke's is in an unbeatable spot being right across from the entrance to the zoo. If you are looking for a bite right there, it's a good option.

This fried chicken could actually rival that of local chicken sandwich chain Roaming Rooster. That…read morewas my first thought when I opened the box of my Honey Butter Buzz chicken sandwich. Eaten fresh at the gas station, the chicken was still steaming after I took my first few bites. I ordered it "spicy" and it was just the right level for me. Like Roaming Rooster's honey butter chicken sandwich, Nash and Smashed's also has cheese in it, which I think overpowered the honey butter oozing from the top of the chicken. The chicken itself, though, was delicious and juicy. I got a side of their creamy signature sauce in the bag, but I did not really need it since there was already plenty of sauce for me inside the sandwich. It probably would have gone well with their waffle fries had I gotten them. The sandwich alone was enough to fill me up. A big reason for me coming to Nash and Smashed was a 3.99 deal for the Oh My Thigh chicken sandwich that they advertised on their Instagram page. I was bummed to learn this location was not doing it. This gas station version of their menu didn't even have that chicken on it, so the worker had no idea what I was talking about. Just a warning if you see any deal on their social media page. There's stool seating on the side with a lovely view of the gas station and Connecticut Ave out the window. There was enough room for four to five people. Another comparison to Roaming Rooster, the chicken sandwich prices are a little cheaper than RR's. Only a few menu items sound similar, but Nash and Smashed has a larger selection of burgers, chicken buckets, sides, and drinks. FWIW some guys next to me raved about their hamburgers, especially the sauce.

Absolutely love!!…read more Such a great concept, fresh burgers with a plush, toasty potato bun that your teeth just sink into perfectly. Crispy edges on the wagyu meat, so juicy. I tried both the original and the papaya salad toppings. Papaya salad topping 4.5/5, I love how crunchy the mixture is, super sweet with a slight pickled taste that cuts through the richness so well. I'm big on texture and this had all the crunch I was looking for. OG burger toppings 5/5, I love how the veggie toppings are finely chopped and tossed in their burger sauce. It tastes so delicious and you get a bit of every veggie in each bite, which is so smart and honestly amazing. I've always hated when tomatoes slide around or when you have to wait to find a pickle in your burger, this made every bite perfect. Fries were pretty standard but came with the same burger toppings. I wish they mixed it up and offered more Filipino inspired toppings or different sauce options because it's the same burger sauce that's in both the papaya salad burger and the original. It can get a bit of flavor fatigue. I know they offer other sauces for purchase, but it would be nice if those were included on the fries too for some variety. And yes, the ube soft serve is worth it. Yes x100, get it. So creamy and rich. I didn't realize how much I missed ube, oh my gosh. Aaand the restaurant is super casual. Only bar seating around the edge of the restaurant. Not a very good place to sit formally or invite a lot of people to because it's quite tiny I guess. Also had such cute art around the walls. Love!!

I'm normally not a big fan of burgers, but I think burgers here are incredible! Maybe it's because…read moreof the Asian twist on the burgers, and I'm a sucker for any Asian or Asian-inspired foods lol. The burgers here are as good as In-n-Out burgers, but I think I'm slightly biased toward Joia burgers just because of that Asian twist. You can get a burger with either Joia topping or papaya salad topping--I definitely recommend the papaya salad; it's unique and tastier. Joia topping is similar to American style burger, but papaya salad is Asian-inspired and add a very refreshing kick to the burger. Ube soft serve with toasted coconut flakes was also excellent. Not too sweet, and the coconut flakes added a nice crunch to the ice cream. Service is great and friendly. Very cute ambiance with children's drawings everywhere.

The hand stretched noodles are made here fresh and are super thick, long, chewy, meaty and delicious. I absolutely loved them. The noodles do not contain eggs. I got my laghman with tofu and vegetables and it had some wood ear mushrooms. I ordered it at the highest spice level and it was delicious. There was some broth/ sauce and it almost reminded me of a combo of a Chinese sauce and a NM strong red Chilli. It was quite interesting. The decor here was nice too and I really liked their chilli crisp. I had to repeat this spot to try more and tried the Korma chop noodles (I had to get something with those same amazing hand pulled noodles again!). I really loved it. I ordered it at the highest spice level as well. These noodles are best eaten fresh and not as leftovers. I hope to try more in the future in one of their locations (sounds like the ones in CA with same name have different ownership)! My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! They serve coffee during the day where I assume they have their pastries. Highlight was the korma chop - you definitely should specify your spice level. Medium was perfect and not too overpowering. The sauce that this comes with is so yummy. Wasn't a fan of the fried eggplant - it was on the sweeter side and the peppers weren't sautéed long enough. Service was friendly, but it did take a bit to get our check (you can just walk up to the counter to close out). Would definitely come back!
