I think Five Guys' burgers are a little bit better than In-N-Out's, but the fries are a step below. In-N-Out is more of a West Coast brand, I've live east of the Rockies my whole life (from MA to CO) and never heard of it before. Five Guys is more of an East Coast institution - I first sunk my teeth into one of their fresh and highly customizable burgers in NJ. A great system gets you served quickly, but without resorting to the near-microwave quality of beef you see at McDonalds. I think personal preference for Five Guys/In-N-Out will skew everyone one way or another, but they're both dependable burger joints in my mind. read more

They have great burgers, they offer everything you could possibly want to put on your burger, which for my tastes is perfect, I want to put everything on my burgers. The atmosphere is great and easy going. I took one star off for the price, they are a little high in price for a fast food joint. This is the kind of burger you'd make in your backyard bbq: decent, not too bad, and has a homey taste to it. They use familiar items such as sesame buns, lettuce, beef patties, american cheese...then you can add on to it with pickles, jalapenos, mushrooms, onions, etc. Nothing too special to it. Fries were better than decent! They scoop a good amount into the cup, put it in the bag, and add an extra scoop into the bag for good measure. Fries (and peanuts too!) were pretty salty, but was a good side. I'd say average. The prices are a bit steep for the average burger and salty fries, and nothing really made Five Guys special or stand out from a burger you'd make at home. Nonetheless, it wasn't bad. My heart and taste buds will always belong to In-N-Out, but this location is surprisingly a runner-up if I am wanting a burger and in the area. I had a bad (first) experience at the Fairfield location and I wouldn't have given it a second chance here if it were not for it being right next to us when we were trying to find a bite to eat before the 3 hour long Hobbit movie that started in 20 minutes. The service was friendly and energetic. I was asked if I wanted any extra items added to my burger and that they were all free. I had never added bell pepper and A-1 steak sauce to a burger, but it was actually a good mix. It made the burger crunchy and gave it a bit of kick at the same time. The service was fast and efficient. Apparently Sloths only work at the Fairfield location. I would come here again if I am craving a burger, its nearby and I'm feeling the itch to cheat on In-N-Out. read more

Yes, five guys is expensive. But if you visit this Five Guys when Aly is working you will not be disappointed. She is so sweet and took the time to make sure everything on our order was correct. She's not even a server yet she still made sure to check in with us after we got our food and got us some extra cups when I needed one. Great customer service and good food makes me want to come back and spend my money. It's completely worth it. The Wall Street Journal in 2011 had an article comparing Five Guys with In-N-Out, but they are not even in the same category. This was the first time I had tried a Five Guys burger and I was pretty pleased with it. Good quality meat, great topping options, and awesome cajun fries. The portions on the fries are obscene, so keep in mind that my girlfriend and I couldn't even finish a medium together. Stopped here on the way to Tahoe and was immediately put off by the patrons. I don't know if it was a regular night, but let's just say that the people looked rough. I worried for the snowboard laying in the backseat of my car in the parking lot. I decided to put my fears behind me and order a small cheeseburger with grilled onions and mushrooms. I also got a regular order of fries to split with the boyfriend. The place was packed and there was only one place to sit in the whole place and it was obviously dirty. We sat down anyways and discovered that what was covering the table was just peanut shells, so we brushed them off and got our own helping to share. I don't really see how the peanuts fit in with everything and I'm sure they are a headache for the workers that have to clean up after everyone, but they were great for hungry travelers that wanted to snack on something while waiting for their meals. The burger was pretty good, but then again, I decided on all of the toppings, so if it could have been better it was my fault. I also forgot to ask what kind of cheese came on the hamburger. I should have assumed they would use American but I was hoping for cheddar. The small burger was big enough for me and I can't imagine wanting the regular size. I was pretty disappointed in the fries. The order was huge but they were pretty boring. I couldn't eat many even though I was hungry and so I ended up wasting a bunch. This place sort of reminds me of Steak n' Shake or an In n' Out, with all of the red and white. Having said that, I think the burgers and fries are way above either of the previously mentioned establishments. Burgers are made-to-order, and you can choose between the little (one patty) and the regular (two patties). These burgers are crispy on the edges and deliciously greasy. 5 Guys doesn't do your normal burger with fries and a drink combo. You get the burger and the fries and drink are separate. I don't like to do fast food very often. But on drives to and from Tahoe/Bay area you can't help it sometimes. Husband has always loved In N Out so they would be a standard stop if we did stop. Well...no more. It was next to impossible to get him to try Five Guys (he felt he was cheating on In N Out) but even he had to admit they were tasty. The burgers are amazing. Flavorful without being terribly greasy. And tons of options to change up your burger. They also have good fries although no fast food (or even non fast food for that matter) fries can ever beat McDonald's in my opinion. But their cajun fries are good. And they do not skimp - a small size is enough to share for 2-3 people. Love this Five Guys establishment. This place never disappoints and its my go to place for a good burger in the area. Cheap, quick and made how I like it. Great for everyone; can accommodate even the pickiest of eaters. Love my burger with everything especially jalapeno peppers (fresh peppers, none of that jar stuff). This place was pretty good.. I ordered a mini bacon cheese burger and there was nothing mini about it. The burger patty's are hand pressed and the fixings are pretty fresh. It came with grilled onions and mushrooms. The only downer was they put too much ketchup, mustard, and mayo that the bottom bun got really really soggy and made it messy and quite difficult to eat. Maybe next time i'll tell them to go easy on the sauces. The fries were good. And the portions were hefty! I wish the fries were a little more crisp. We ordered our meal togo and the burger was cooked right there while we waited. I was excited. I was not impressed. The burger had little flavor, even with bacon. The fries were the worst thing of all. We ended up throwing them away. I like their concept, I like the freshness of it, but not worth going. Try the Habit or even In and Out. I was here last week sometime in the afternoon. I got good service & like always, great & delicious cajun fries too. The location was neat, including the restrooms. The facility was swarmed by many people, some were relaxing with families and some appeared to be corporate officials working in the neighborhood.
