    My burger.

I have been here many times in the past, with good service and pretty good food. Yesterday was a little different. The place wasn't very busy and an employee quickly came up after I entered and I placed my order. I could tell there were only two walk-in orders ahead of mine. I ordered a fountain drink but found the soda machines were a little lacking in selections. A bunch of selections seemed empty or just didn't work. I ended up with a drink I wasn't really interested in drinking. However, I had already paid so I opted to grab something. I ended up tossing most of it since it didn't taste right. As I waited a few people who had placed online orders came and left. Still, not very busy. When my order came up, it was at the same time as one of the previous orders. I made sure I got the right bag and left to go eat. I took a bite and quickly realized somethine was missing. I looked and found there was no lettuce or pickles on the burger, despite my having ordered them. There was the ketchup & mustard. At almost $10 for a burger, you would think the place could get the condiments correct. Given how the work stations are set up, hopefully, someone straightens out the mistake. Maybe it was because of a change of shift (some employees were leaving) or maybe there were newer employees. Regardless, I won't go back for a bit. I can go to a tavern/pub and sit and get a good burger for a few more dollars. Normally, I am pleased to eat here. This time, not so much.

So just left five guys. Didn't feel like five guys at all. Usually when you are walking through the door, there's the enthusiastic cashier, saying hello and there is a sense of camaraderie behind the glass with the employees. Not at all do you have people? Trisha, who waited on us was less than enthusiastic. She almost look like she was going to cry maybe she was having a bad day I don't know. But as we waited for our order to come up, we watched her clean off tables and oddly enough, she went around crumbs and left them on the table. We had a hard time, not giggling because we couldn't believe our eyes. I'm sure to the camera it look like she was doing her job. Taking an extremely long time cleaning around the table and not doing a damn thing because the thing was covered with crumbs. Oh well. the food wasn't quite like I remembered. The burgers had way too much condiment on them. You could barely taste the burger. And it made a huge mess. We love five guys but this crew really seem like it was lacking nobody talking to each other no camaraderie it just felt like everyone was pissed off too bad that's one of the things we love about it is it's upbeat field mostly we love it because the great burgers and fries not to mention the really great shakes. Maybe this crew needs to talk into. Or maybe all of them we're having a bad day at the very same time

A half destroyed large bacon burger with extra lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo ketchup. YUM!! Small fries in background....
    Toddy T.

I ordered the large burger which is two pattys of 80/20% beef add bacon, extra tomato; extra lettuce mayo, pickles, and ketchup. Burger was executed in a timely manner and with all the described fixings in place. I also ordered the small fries which were crispy on outside hot and buttery delicious on inside. Fried in a clean fryer with 100% peanut oil. Well played I must say. Burger was hot and tasty and what a burger should be all about. Simple, yet delicious. I will gladly take Midwestern beef over Vermont farm-to-table Angus anyday. I truly believe the Vermont farm-to-table bandwagon does not always offer the best ingredients when it comes to a lot cuisine. 5 guys rock on!!

It was so cold in there, made it miserable to eat when you're shivering. Walked by the thermostat and it displayed 63°

This was mainly due to the great service and delicious meals ordered by each of us in our family of three. Our table was never left waiting and the food was served hot. Our meal choices were varied, including apps such as steak tartar and cheddar ale soup for one and the meatloaf plate and the turkey burger for the others. Everything was made with original flavor additions such as homemade sauces, fresh breads, and unique use of herbs and spices. Lastly, I was told to mention that the hand cut fries were exceptional. Since we visit Burlington often, we look forward to returning to the Farmhouse to try other dishes on their menu or just ordering the same meals since they were so good. We all agreed that this restaurant has definately moved to the top of the list for our next trip to Vt.

Ups and Downs. Ups:…read moreThe food is good, it's kinda trust and don't judge a book by its cover. But for starters the grilled cheese is like as thin as an average pointer finger which is like actually crazy. The sprite was a little sketchy, I mean it's kinda worse than what you could get at a gas station and a little more expensive. It was $4 and there's not even refills, I would bring my own water if I were you. The vibe is nice though, like a 60s diner that just felt welcoming and I couldnt tell if there was music or the vibe was making music be in my head. Downs: This might just be a me problem but every time I order chicken from there I barf, and when I don't order chicken I don't barf. The chicken is good, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't risk it for the biscuit. I really had to go to and there is only a men's bathroom with all the stalls and all, and an all gender bathroom with a single toilet. My friend and I go to the bathroom, when we got there we realized we had to wait. There are seats outside of the bathrooms and the like teenage girls are looking at us like we are nasty creatures. The teenagers were eating there and one of them scoffed really loudly before disrespectfully telling us that there is a line. I hate this, there is seats that people use to preserve bathroom spots, this ought to be fixed with like a special sign. Honestly, they were so disrespectful I'm too nervous to go back. But there needs to be a women's/girl's bathroom, seriously.

Ambience: It's a genuine 1950s Worcester Lunch Car--complete with Formica counters, vinyl booths, and tile floors that feel like they haven't changed since before your grandparents were born. Charming if you like that "museum exhibit" vibe--but cozy it isn't. Seating is tight, and the wait can feel longer than vintage itself. Food: Yes, it's scratch-made breakfast and lunch--maple syrup is local, English muffins made in-house, eggs fresh from Vermont farms. Great effort. But then you find out the famous hot turkey sandwich and VT burger that earned Roadfood praise under the old owner are no longer on the menu. The new proprietors swapped nostalgia for a rewritten menu--and higher prices. Some folks rave about the blueberry jam and standout flavors, but others griped that biscuits and gravy were "downright gross." Contrasting reviews and extra-charge condiment notes further muddle expectations. Service: Staff tend to move with diner efficiency--fast, polite, and no fuss. That said, reviews note some inconsistency: stellar one day, meh the next. They're friendly, but don't expect a guided gastronomic tour--just order, eat, move on. Value: With plates clocking in near $19 for diner fare like chicken-fried steak and breakfast burrito bowls, this isn't exactly your classic greasy spoon find. Everything tastes well-executed, but you're paying for that curated "local ingredients" label--not bargain basement. Bottom line: If you're nostalgic for a parlor that looks like a train car and serve-your-mother's-recipe breakfast served up with giddy pride, Parkway Diner might still charm. Just be ready to pay for ingredient provenance and ditch your hopes for old favorites like the hot turkey sandwich or VT burger. Solid for breakfast or lunch, but don't expect miracles--even if they serve bottomless coffee.
