After 14 years, I finally had a chance to revisit Five Guys here on base. I'd had an issue with service and product back then, but today during a lunch rush, no less it was a completely different experience. The food court can be challenging during the work week, especially before a 96, but today it ran smoothly. The register clerk was kind, professional, and efficient. The classic combo cheeseburger "all the way" with Cajun fries more than made up for my negative experience from years ago. Glad I gave it another shot. read more

I called into the location to figure out what I could do and Jay Jordon went above and beyond to make sure I could get my food by meeting a Uber Driver outside of gates. Slow and terrible customer service today. We were just waiting for the staff to realize they haven't made our order. Just everyone hanging out and staring into the wilderness. They need to be retrained on how to do their job. No greetings, no apologies ... how did they get the jobs here? They must have been interviewed by the management, right? Going in and you haven't been before, know that the "Hamburger" on the menu is a double burger. The "Little Hamburger" is a single. When you order from Five Guys, you tell them what you want on your burger by listing your items of choice. They're all listed on the menu so just read out loud and skip the things you don't want. The burgers are grill cooked (no skimping on the grease) and made when you order so there's a slight wait but it'll get to you hot and fresh, wrapped in foil. It can be a sloppy burger but it's worth it. Know going in that their burgers cost a little more. Also, if you order the fries and Cajun seasoning is a good option, the regular size is more than enough for two and sometimes even three people. The fries go into a cup inside the bag and it's always overflowing. More than enough. read more

I worked here for a little over 2 years. I give them an overall 3/5 for a few reasons. Obviously their food is very high-quality. Having worked at 2 other big-branded restraunts in San Diego, I can definitely vouch for their thorough food-safety techniques that are maintained to a tee. Thanks to the Manager Brianna and the very experienced Crew Member Bruce especially, things are ran especially effeciently. Generally, things are taken very seriously in the kitchen here. My issues arise when the topic changes to treatment of employees. Since recently switching jobs and working at Starbucks now, it is astonishing how little benefits 5 Guys gives their employees. When you start at Starbucks, your base pay is 14.50 an hour. At 5 guys I had to work there for two years and become a Manager-In-Training to reach that rate. Not to mention the countless labor laws that were broken throughout my time there. Allowing minors to work for 6+ hours on weekdays, not providing my paycheck for a whole 6 days after I was meant to be paid. The constant attempts to manipulate me into losing hours. The reason I ended up leaving 5 Guys, after having fallen in love with the store, crew, and work itself, is because of their failure to meet me in the middle, a basic request most employees would hope to see tended to. I had recieved the position of Manager in Training in August sometime, and ended up quitting in March because this multi-billion dollar company refused to follow through with their word. The only good thing I got out of this experience was a paid-for-by-the-company Managerial ServSafe, which I recieved during the final week of October. Every month following October 2020 I asked my General Manager about my new training, raise, promotion, and new position. Every time I asked, I was given the same response: "next month for sure, don't worry". After around 5 months of this, I ended up leaving to work two jobs instead. I really enjoyed this workplace; it was my first job ever. I was 17 when I started there. But it is very sad seeing how they treat their employees and how they completely disregard even State Labor Laws. I would recommend working here, but not for any longer than 12 months really. It is definitely not worth the amount of work it takes to reach full-time positions. Once again: I give this place a 3/5 max, and thats considering how much I cared about the crew here. read more

Um... not incredibly impressed thus far. It's a burger... it's fries... it's a bit overpriced ($7.38 incl tax for a mini cheeseburger and reg cajun fries, no drink). The burger was pretty decent all things considered, but quite honestly the fries were just -ish. Yes, just "-ish". So what? You sprinkled some "Slap Ya Mama" on thick potato wedges. Doesn't mean my eyes are gonna roll back into my head and my toesies are going to curl in an explosive fit of cajun passion. Actually, the fries were dry and a tad unpleasant. I think a Big Mac and the famous fries from Ma-ku-do-na-ru-do would have quenched my burger hunger more sufficiently for a cheaper price tag. Yes, I straight up said, "Makudonarudo" for you Japanese folks. Plus what is up with the erratic numbering system? You call out number 75 then 92, then 83 then 1. And it's not due to different registers cuz my buddy ordered next to me, and his number was sequential to mine. What is that aboot? Yes, I straight up said "aboot" for you Canadians. One cool thing about this place is that you get to choose from a crapload of toppings for free-fiddy. That I can get down with. So yeah, all in all it's just ok. Let's just say that I'm not going to be running back to this place, blouse open, eagerly panting, begging and pleading with the counter guy in a licentious fashion for my next burger fix. Nestled in the food court at the NAS North Island Exchange, this east coast transplant fast food joint takes over the Pizza Hut spot next to Rubios. Not sure if they use the existing drive thru window, but they run a pretty good operation inside. So the In N Out comparision: IMO its like In N Out, but you get more choices. -In N Out topping choices has grilled or fresh onions, "spread" & your other normal toppings. 5Guys has Mayo Relish* Onions* Lettuce Pickles Tomatoes Grilled Onions Grilled Mushrooms Ketchup Mustard Jalapeno Peppers* Green Peppers A-1 Sauce* Bar-B-Q Sauce* Hot Sauce* and the almighty BACON! -In N Out has "animal style," where 5Guys has "All Out" (I think that's what its called). - In N Out has the "Double Double," where 5Guys has "Burgers" (the "little" burgers are single patties, not SO little). -In N Out has plain fries, although you can animal style it, but 5Guys also has cajun style. The cajun seasoning just really tastes like that seasoned salt you get @ the grocery. They cake it on too, and it's overpowering. If you can shake off the seasoning, or go light on it, it's ok. They give so much fries (they serve them in a cup, but overflows that at the bottom of your bag, you have another order of fries) that I had some leftover fries to take home. I microwaved them the next day, popped them in the toaster oven, and tasted waaaay better. This is probably because the seasoning and excess oil was soaked up by the bag. -In N Out may have shakes, but 5Guys has hot dogs. Ok apples and oranges, but those are the main differences. But the new bells and whistles come at a cost. Where an average combo @ In N Out is around $5-6. An average combo at 5Guys is about $10-11. Heavy on the food, heavy on the wallet. You need a CAC card to get on base, so only navy people can get to it, so that's a bummer for people who dont have base access. 5 Guys Burgers and Fries should be renamed 20 Guys Burgers, Fries & Hot Dogs (I swear there were liek 20+ people working behind the counter running the whole thing) read more

Look out In-N-Out, these "Five Guys" are awesome! Everything is made fresh to my order and I can choose from an assortment of toppings to put onto my burger. Their fries are so damn good either regular style or Cajun style and they give you plenty of them to boot! Put this all together with a group of young people giving me GREAT customer service and taking pride in their work and that equals (as Charlie Sheen would say) WINNER! I was so impressed by everything about this place that I will certainly be coming back for more. read more

Don't believe the hype. I went for lunch today expecting to be treated to a great burger, but what I got was just the opposite. I asked for a little bacon cheeseburger with pickles, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and mustard. Instead, I got a little cheeseburger, no bacon, no grilled onions, and with a shitload of ketchup. The fries were okay, but they were super greasy. I don't mind paying a hefty price for good food, but for the price we paid ($20 for two burgers, one fries, one small drink, and one bottled water), this was not just disappointing, it was kind of gross and a total RIP-OFF! No one was in front of us when we ordered, so I can't even use that as an excuse for them to get my order so wrong. I've had much better burgers at Coronado Brewing Company, Burger Lounge, In-n-Out, and Carl's Jr.!!! Finally, I love that on their wall, there is a Food & Wine quote that says "Delicious burgers and hand cut fries." Really? If that's all Food & Wine has to say about your food, don't use it to display on the wall. It just looks stupid. Oh boy-- Coronado has a Five Guys! Superb burgers, however you want 'em (cheese, bacon, peppers, onions, A-1... etc). A regular burger is a double. One order of fries will feed a family of 5 (no kidding). So now I can pick between Danny's, Burger Lounge, and Five Guys when I'm having a burger fit. This place makes an okay burger. I love how you can choose from any of their toppings for free, but the meat itself is kind of bland. The bun is also way too small, and if you order the regular burger, the bottom half of the bun will turn into a flat piece of mush. The upside is that everything is fresh; none of their food is frozen. The prices are high, but know that their regular burger is actually a double patty burger. If you want a single patty, order the Little Burger, which is what I do. The regular burger is just a tad too big. Their fries are decent and the cajun fries are really good, and they give you a LOT. They fill the paper cup, then they dump a whole second cup into the bag after it. If you're eating with someone, just get one order of fries. It will be enough. For those of you who are not in the military or don't know someone who is, sorry. This joint is located at the Navy Exchange at NAS North Island. YOWZAH! When we moved here from Northern Virginia in 2005, one of the very few things I thought I'd miss was Five Guys. My first FGB&F burger was at their first-ever store: on Beauregard St in Alexandria - and I was ecstatic as they grew their chain (emphasis on simplicity, well-made burgers & fries, no frills) all the way out to the NOVA suburb where we lived. A dependable place for a great burger - not fine dining, but if you were ready to wait for it, some of the freshest fast food going. Coming out to Coronado, it seemed like Inn-N-Out would fit the bill; but not really. There are days when you want Inn-N-Out; then, there are days where you WANT to ask for grilled mushrooms, or A-1 sauce, or Cajun fries. And what about seeing the WHOLE MENU without secret passwords? So imagine how lucky I felt when - after moving to the town I love, and leaving almost nothing I missed - we saw a sign saying FGB&F was coming to North Island! (Fellow civilians - if you don't have a base pass, NOW is the time to volunteer, or get a job on base, or - not so crazy - join the Navy. You'll thank me later.) The menu? Stupid simple, short & to the point. Burgers (2 patties or one). Fries (regular or Cajun). Drinks (soft drinks- but the Rubios to your left sells beer, and FGB&F has a lot of soda choices). Hot dogs too, and other miscellaneous stuff - but order straight down the middle and you can't go wrong. Burgers come in two sizes - regular, and "little". You have to love a place where regular means "double cheeseburger". I'm a fan of the "little" bacon cheeseburger (it's like saying "little tsunami" or "small skyscraper" - a big burger no matter how you name it). Toppings, though not as expansive as at Danny's Palm Bar, build a palette to suit any serious burger enthusiast. Sautéed mushrooms &/or onions; lettuce, tomato, pickles; mayo, mustard, ketchup, A-1, Tabasco; jalapeños, relish, green peppers, BBQ sauce - this selection puts you in the driver's seat. And during the two visits I've made so far, all the toppings are fresh, service has been quick, and orders done right. I'm keeping an eye on these people - they're selling burgers under a brand I've grown to like. And given that I have THREE water polo players in the house (all playing for Nado Aquatics), I expect we'll be buying calories at FGB&F for years to come. read more

I am pleased to admit that I have changed my mind about this place and thereby quash my first review and add another star! I have come back 2-3 times ever since and have decided that the burgers are worth it and more special-tasting if you pick one with sauce. BBQ sauce is my fav. If you're a fries person, the cajun fries can get gradually too spicy (coming from someone who regularly eats spicy foods), so I recommend getting one small cajun and one small regular fries, not one large cajun fries alone. I also changed my mind because the service has always been really good. And please customers -- don't throw your peanuts on the floor. It's not your house or the zoo. High five for 5 Guys! Hot, fresh, tasty, burgeoning burgers and fries. They load you up with everything you get. The "small" burger is biggity giggity big. The big burger is gianormous. Same with the fries. All portions are overwhelming and surprising here. They overfill your bag with fries, and it is a big surprise. It's not quite equal to the In-and-Out franchise, but damn close with no complaints. Excellent burgers and worth all the calories and fat, so splurge here and enjoy yourself! read more

If yelp allowed zero stars this restaurant would receive it. I Went to this five guys and ordered my food at 1821. They close at 1900. They said fries would take 30mins so the person in front of me ordered fries. A male employee saw the ticket and rolled his eyes, clearly upset fries were ordered. Next person who ordered fries were told they were out of potatoes. Pure laziness and not wanting to make new fries then lying to us is upsetting. I hope they fix this but until they do I will not be returning. read more

Five Guys has the best burgers! How can it not be when you make your own? The toppings are free (including mushrooms, jalepenos, A1 sauce, BBQ sauce). The bacon is a bit extra. I've been there a couple times and always come out smiling! I had a little cheeseburger (one patty) with grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, jalepenos, and BBQ sauce with an order of small cajun fries (they fill the bottom of the bag!). The burger patty is a decent size (is it me, or have other burgers became as thick as the pickle slices?). They take their time and make it with love. :) You get quality and quantity. The price may concern some. However, you are paying for a custom burger! The price is a bit more than any combo meal at other fast food places. If you like Hodad's, then you know good burgers and you'll love Five Guys. read more

Only downsides, and reasons why this isn't 5 stars and not at In-N-Out's level, is that they don't have "secret sauce", and it's priced a little higher. I'm a big fan of five guys but today an employee by the name of Keyerrah J (this is what it says on my receipt) was very unhelpful and impatient to one of my employers that went to make a food run for us. As we made our first order she rudely rolled her eyes when we told her we have separate transactions. Our order was incorrect and as soon as we returned to our job we had to turn right back around and get our order again. As we returned we saw the same lady and she made contact with us and completely turned away. We had to wave down another employee to help us out. We were given our order again and free fries only to find out it was the wrong order AGAIN. We were so disappointed. Don't think I will be eating here again soon. read more
