Tonight was a busy night at Five Guys in Northville. I came in on my way home from work to pick up dinner for my family. The dining room was clean and bright. I was promptly greeted by who I would assume was the manager. He asked me if I could wait a few minutes to order so he could help his crew, I had no problem there. I watch the 3 guys behind the grill and prep station bust it out. A few minutes later, I was able to get my order in for my hungry family. My wife and I both got bowls and we got a hamburger for my kiddo. They were speedy and friendly, plus they hooked up in the fries. The order was not perfect, I was missing a patty on my burger, but these guys and one young lady crushed it. The service was impeccable for what they had going on and I can respect the hustle, as I am in retail management. These guys deserve a raise. Jay C was the name in the receipt. I stopped in yesterday because I had a $10 gift card. A cheeseburger and milk shake is $19.80 after tax. So, I only paid $9.80 due to the gift card. Even so, the quality of the assembled product has fallen since the last time I was at this location. 5 GUYS now operates 1900 locations worldwide. When they first came out in 1986, 5 GUYS was an AWESOME burger. Now, it is obvious to me that even though they are still owned (75% stake) by the founding Murrell family, their original quality that made them famous has taken a back seat to profits. Ordered little burgers with small fry. Mother's Day. Only two of us. Not busy at all. Plenty of staff. Very disappointed upon arrival at home to find that the burger orders were wrong. No grilled onions on mine and no tomatoes on his. Otherwise the burger size was good and they were tasty. Don't typically give bad reviews but just couldn't believe mistakes in such a simple order. I accidentally came in right at closing and they told me not to worry about it and then immediately made me the best Five Guys burger and fries I've ever had in my life! However, it is pricey for a burger. That said, I still go there when I can afford it, so it must be good. Employees always seem friendly. A cheeseburger from anywhere is an indulgence, something that occurs only on cheat days. A cheeseburger from Five Guys is the ultimate in indulgence: two griddled patties with that lovely textured crust, melted cheese oozing down the sides, and a sesame-seed bun. I love mine topped with grilled onions and lots of pickles. The fries are among the best served among quick-service restaurants. I love the crispiness, along with the tender texture. I had to limit myself because the meal is already a treat. After restaurants were allowed to re-open (but at 50% occupancy), this location only allowed for pick-up (or delivery) but not dine-in so chairs were stacked on tables and high-tops were pushed against walls. Masked guests were standing six-ish feet away from each other, patiently waiting for their food. Pro tip: Prior to COVID, I found that it took a while for orders to be completed. So when I was informed that my food would be ready in 7 minutes, I took that as guidance and instead, only walked in for pick-up 17 minutes later, just in time for my order to be ready. read more

I had heard good things and wanted to try them, so my burger connoisseur husband and I stopped in for a quick bite. So how was it? Excellent!! Fries: so so soooo good. They are fresh (bags of potatoes stacked abundantly remind you of this!) and were spot on. I'm not even a fry person, really, but these were good. They reminded me of Friar Tuck's at Cedar Point. The cups look small, but ours was over filled to abundance. We shared a medium and w the burgers it was plenty. Ah, the burger. Two patties of ever so gently pressed beef was tender and flavorful. We got the regulars w cheese. They come generously topped with just about anything you want (even mushrooms & grilled onions) included. My husband was pleasantly surprised, and could only think of three burgers he'd ever had that rated higher. It's a strong 5-star burger. His only critique: maybe toast the bun a hair more. I loved my burger, too. It was a big bad boy lol, but went down easy. It wasn't cheap, but it tasted of quality in every bite from the American cheese to the firm tomato to the crisp lettuce. First of all, Service was amazing! There were 4 lady's there and they were all so kind. The food was fantastic and it most definitely pleased my stomach! The store itself was neatly done and well taken care of. It was very cozy and CLEAN, which is something I often look for when eating out. I have to say I've been to Five Guys all over the USA. Miami, Chicago, New York, Denver, Dallas and Las Vegas and this location has my heart. The cashier and the cooks all had me smiling and laughing. It was like they loved being there and it showed. I will drive outta my way to go here from now on. The seasoned Cajun fries was all I ordered and they tasted perfect. I have the reoccurring thought of these fries even today. The bathroom and the inside was very clean and full of customers. Lots of happy eaters all around me. I like that they have free peanuts to snake on as you wait for your order. The fry cook even asked if I wanted a light sprinkle of seasoning or a heavy poor. I don't mind the high prices now at five guys but I expect good service and a quality product, neither of which I got today. I received attitude right from the start from the order taker. There was very little business while I was there, so it amazed me when the cook walked away from cooking my order to refill ketchup bottles, never to return. Eventually someone else stepped in but was way too busy conversing with coworkers to manage cooking the burgers. Long story short, hamburgers way past well done and juicy onto well done and dry. New location at 5 mile and Beck roads. It is in a small strip mall on the northwest corner. This used to be the prison and now it is a very large subdivision. A little hard to get into as you really have to enter off of southbound Beck. Carry out only. Very clean franchise. 6 or 7 staff doing their thing. Service was very quick and friendly. This is one of my favorite burgers and this location met my expectations. Fries were a little under done but still good. Google said this was the least busy of the 3 locations around me and he was right. Lots of customers must have ordered online or called in because many were able to walk up and grab a bag from the staff. Have to remember that. So far this is a go to place in my book and I hope it remains so once all the construction is done and the residents have moved in. read more

There are many options for a burger- I went with the single patty cheeseburger (ketchup, jalapenos, relish, tomatoes, lettuce), small fries (there no is such thing as a small fry at Five Guys: the picture shows the cup the small order of fries come in then they dump about an equal amount into your bag- hand cut and fried to perfection) and a small drink (Coke products from a self serve dispenser). This isn't a fast food burger joint- there are no combo meals. Everything you order is ala carte. The place also have some tables for you to sit if you don't do takeover. Even they give crayons and paper to draw. FINALLY! A five guys has opened that is a reasonable distance from my home. I have heard such wonderful things about this place all over the internet, so I had been dying to try it for quite a long time. I have always been a fan of a good burger, and the fast food joints just don't do it for me. So I headed to 5 guys to see if it could live up to the hype. As you can probably guess from the 5 stars headlining this post, it VERY MUCH did live up to that hype! The first thing I noticed upon arriving is how packed it was. Apparently I am not the only one who was excited about the opening of this location. Thankfully they have a very convenient 'take a number' queue that made the process painless. The atmosphere is also pretty inviting so waiting the 5 minutes or so that it takes to receive an order is no problem! They have huge 50 lb sacks of potatoes stacked within eyesight which really completes the 'old school' style burger shack that this place attempts to emulate. If you weren't super hungry before walking in, you will be while waiting. The smell of their Cajun fry spice and delicious greasy burgers is delightfully overwhelming! Be warned that this place does *not* deal in small portions. Their regular cheeseburger comes DEFAULT with 2 patties that are the size of your average bar burger! While I am sure its delicious, that is simply too much meat for me personally, so I just ordered one of their 'small' burgers (which is just a single patty). They have a VAST quantity of toppings to choose from to truly craft the ultimate burger, but I am pretty bare-bones when it comes to mine, so I got it with only ketchup, mustard, cheese and mayo. I also decided to just go with their regular fries this time, as I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the Cajun spice they use and wanted to enjoy the first experience as much as possible. I also ordered a pop with it. The total came to a little over 11 dollars. This place is not your typical fast food joint, and the prices clearly reflect that. The staff was very friendly despite being quite busy. I thought that this was a nice change of pace from the rude fast food workers you so often run into. The first thing I noticed when I received my order, is how many fries they put in the little, grease stained, unmarked bag. I had only ordered a regular fry but there was easily as many fries as you would get with a super-sized plus a small from McDonald's. I tried the fries first and was immediately impressed. They were cooked long enough to make them soft without falling apart. They use just a hint of salt and it is perfect. Next was the main attraction; the cheeseburger! It came wrapped in foil and upon opening it, you see what a brilliant piece of packaging that foil really is. It resulted in perfectly melted, oozing cheese. The bun is very sturdy and had no trouble holding in the toppings and holding up to a big bite without crumbling or flopping. AND..IT...WAS...HEAVEN! The burger is cooked to perfection. No extra flavors or salts added to it. Just that delicious old school burger taste. You can taste all the delicious toppings and just a hint of sweetness from the bun. It went perfectly with the fries. It was everything the internet said it would be. Needless to say, that burger did not stick around long. I managed to finish the fries too, but not without quite an effort. They really are more than anyone could possibly need, but I still appreciate the gesture. If I had to come up with a con, it would be the fact that the heavy (read; greasy) burger and fries give you a strong case of the 'itis'. I was so sleepy after eating it, that I ended up taking a nap. Something I never do. Overall the experience was great and I am very excited to have it as a go to option from now on when I get that burger craving. The folks there are very friendly, the service is very fast, they're even more extra with the fries relative to your typical Five Guys, and the food is great as always. I don't typically dine at fast food places. No, not because I'm a food snob, or any kind of snob, but, well, I guess because I love food, and I love to enjoy food, so having it fast or eating it fast, just not my thing. Today, however, I needed something on the go, I was at the phone place next door, I can't stand that faux Mexican place on the other side, so I thought, why not? I told the very nice gal at the front counter that it was my first time there, and she proceeded to tell me, with a smile and lots of enthusiasm, about their menu, the options, and how ordering works. (Basically, everything is "a la carte".) After making sure she had my burger toppings correct, she gave me a slip, told me I was #11, and I was on my way. There is a container with shelled peanuts and a scoop on the next counter, to which you're welcome to help yourself. There were 2 orders ahead of mine, and the folks prepping the burgers and fries were visibly busy and working hard. It did take a bit longer than I expected to get my burger, but it's literally made while you wait, so, no complaint. The burger came exactly as I requested it, and it was pretty good. What really made my visit a 5-star experience was the team. They worked well together, they knew what they were doing, they seemed to care about the quality of their work and service, and they got my order right. the food was fine but the place was filthy! french fries and garbage all over the floor in the kitchen, garbage on the floor in the dining area, large puddles of water on the floor in front of the pop dispensers, grease all over the serving counter and the tables. Nothing in this location was clean. it was not something that just happened either. This place needs some management that knows what they are doing. To have 7 or 8 employees working and not one is cleaning anything the whole time I was there, when the place desperately needed it is just bad management. I would not go back to this location. Update: the day that I wrote this review I also submitted my comments to the corporation as the owner of this location suggested to others who said the location was filthy. 3 weeks later I have not gotten any contact from the company, the owner, the location or anyone else. Oh yeah, this place rocks. Greasy burgers, bag fries, and yummy shakes, it's like an old school diner. One thing they do particularly well here is fast, methodical, food preparation. Also, unlike most places where food is prepared behind closed doors or obscured from view in some fashion, 5 Guys invites you to watch your meal being prepared which can be entertaining all on its own. It's also so cool when restaurants don't charge you per topping, you get exactly what you want for one price. Bonus, this place is awesome for people avoiding carbs. You can get your burger served in a bowl and make it into a salad, cutting out the annoying need to rid yourself of a bun. Don't neglect the peanuts! I know, they seem pretty insignificant compared to the deliciousness that is their entire menu, but their free and a great way to warm up for the main course. If you've been to Five Guys before, then you know what to expect. This place has the standard decor, service and quality. This place has the added bonus of letting your order small fries, and having a soda machine that is powered by magic. You won't be disappointed. If you've never been to Five Guys, let me describe how your first time there will go: You started an online dating profile, and finally found someone you connected with. You want to meet in person and you choose something casual before going to see a shitty romantic comedy. You meet at Five Guys and decide the place is nice and clean and worth getting a bite to eat. You enter the restaurant to classic white and red tiles and giant bags of peanuts to munch on. You order a standard bacon cheeseburger and load up on extra toppings (grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, bbq sauce, and A1), a medium order of fries, and a soda. Your date gets a little cheeseburger (with onions, extra tomato, and mayo), a small order of fries, and their own drink. You get change back for your $20 and approach the soda machine. The soda machine needs its own description. There are 145 different drinks this thing can make. Lime coke? It has it. Cherry Fanta? Has it. While this is nice in theory, I went up there 4 times personally, and 3 of the times my drink ended up tasting like jungle juice. So if you're sneaking a pint of booze into the theater later, you might want to empty some into your cup. While you're sipping your drink you can watch the swarm of Five Guys workers whip together your food. If you're lucky, your burger will be put together by the guy with 2 Harry Potter tattoos (the guy totally looks like a Hufflepuff though). Your order is up. You unwrap your regular burger and find out it is really a double. AND you have enough fries to feed 4 people. Should have ordered a small to split with your date, it would have been enough. You and your date eat everything, and then end up falling asleep halfway through the previews. You go on 2 or 3 more dates before deciding you aren't right for each other. The best part about this Five Guys, that is unique to this location, is you get to watch all the suckers that head into Qdoba for an entirely unsatisfying meal. read more

The guy that took my order asked if I was ordering and when I said yes he replied with "well I can't take it anyway" and turned around and just stood there and didn't do any other task. After like 5 minutes of him just standing there, he said I guess I can take it, and did. It took them 40 plus minutes for two hamburgers and a regular fry. The sheer lake of communication through the employees seemed to be a huge part of the problem, and the guy who was preparing the fries and handing out food was wearing his mask around his chin. After waiting a long time, I got my food and the order was of course wrong. Also I saw several carpenter ants crawling all around the floor. I've never had Five Guys before and have heard great things about it, so when I saw that a location was opening up so close to my home I got excited. It's been at this location for over a month and I've been three times. It's a solid place for a quick bite to eat on a budget. They also have the option for the gluten-free to get your burger bunless. I've done it everytime I've gone and it's delicious. Everything is fresh and made to order, and I love the open kitchen concept so i can see them freshly making my burger and fresh cut fries. One thing to know ahead of time before you order your meal is the portion size of the fries are MASSIVE. If it's just you I'd op for the small side and if you're sharing with one other person I'd still opt for the next size up. We made the mistake of ordering a large fry for 2 of us and ended up with a portion size that could feed a family of 4. read more
