Tomatoes at least a day old - spoiled. Onions are chopped and not sliced. Good luck keeping them in the sandwich. Asked for lettuce and did not get. French fries overcooked on the outside and undercooked inside. Obvious time/temperature mistake. They were also soggy. Truly had an amazing experience this past Friday. We arrived 15 minutes before closing, and put in a fairly large order. The cashier was very polite, and seemed to genuinely enjoy taking our order. We ordered two large fries for a group of six, and when I checked the bags. It seemed as though they had only filled the large cup with fries, rather than putting an extra scoop of fries in the bag, as they usually do. I asked one of the workers if they had changed their portion, and he promptly added a heaping scoop to both fries, going above my expectations. Customer service is a lost art, but fortunately it is alive and well at Five Guys. My wonderful experience first began with the cashier. She was friendly, energetic and even took the time to ask me about the book I had under my arm. It's so important that a customer's first interaction with the employees be positive and the cashier who helped me was amazing. Later, I was impressed with one of the cooks. When between orders he would circulate around the restaurant to ask the customers if the needed anything. Such a nice touch! The food was great. I was reminded of Fatburger quality without the Fatburger prices. As others have written, I am also a convert from In-n-Out. If I had a critique it would be that I do not require so many fries. I like Five guys, its different but still a burger. This location is dine-in but i think that's okay, they offer a unique experience. I like that they have options for your burger, choose the toppings you want, that makes them unique. I like the nice sizzle crispiness they have on the edge of the patty that makes it great. They pack a lot in that burger package. I really like their seasoned fries, its spicy and a side of A1 or another sauce adds to their flavor. After you order, swing by and pick up a few peanuts to enjoy while they cook your food. This place is generally busy but they work through the orders at a nice pace. I became a Five Guys fan years ago while in the Midwest. Unfortunately all of the California locations I've visited never lived up to my past Midwest experiences. This location in Northridge is the exception. The manager (I did not want to slow her roll to ask for her name) is a perfect example of leadership and customer service. She upsells without being pushy, communicates your order thoroughly and in a timely manner and efficiently delegated cleaning the dining area while restocking herself. The kitchen crew were on it, bouncing between helping customers and tending to the orders without difficulty. In my fast food experience, a team working as efficiently as this was rare and I'm so glad my local Five Guys isn't a half fast burger joint. For you first timers, The only cons I could think of is sometimes parking fills up quick and you might be forced to park in the main lot which is a little bit of a walk. Pros- everything. Wow. What a disappointment. We had fries that were neither crispy nor flavourful, a hot dog with mustard that had so little mustard we had to add our own. Finally went today to this one in Costco, In n Out lot. Plenty of parking. I ordered a small hamburger with pickles , relish, tomatoes, grilled onions, lettuce. See the photo. When it arrived, the bun was not squished down. I took the top off to take a look at what I ordered because the bun overwhelms the meat patty. It looked fine. Took a bite and was amazed that it actually had no taste- bland as can be. Every bite was the same- couldn't taste anything. My son said the same thing. First time actually eating at a Five Guys and probably the last. We ordered a peanut butter chocolate shake with whipped cream and it was fantastic! I've had the shakes before so I was happy those are great no matter where you go. Peanuts are in a box with trays for the taking in a corner. Honestly I don't think anyone would notice them unless they were pointed out. There were no shells all over the floor. A little kid spilled a drink and it took at least 5 -10 minutes before anyone cleaned it up; gotta love parents who let a toddler hold a cup of soda. In n Out at least has flavor, and a double double is better than a single and the perfect amount of meat. So 2 stars because the shakes are fantastic- but since it's a burger place and the burgers aren't good, I can't give 5 stars for shakes. Overpriced, good burger but not at all worth it's value, and I would have been equally satisfied going to a Carl's Jr for the quality of burger I received for over $10. The staff was polite but they had an employee with what appeared to be either a serious skin infection, a very bad case of acne, extremely large skin cancer growths, or some other serious skin condition and he was handling people's food and money. This place is about a 3.5 for me.. I've been wanting to check this place out for quite sometime... so it made for a great after hike meal... I was starved! The inside is very bright and they play a lot of loud oldies rock music. Like. Yum! The burger. Now this is my only gripe with this place. The meat... is tasty. It's flavorful and I like that they add grilled mushrooms which is totally unique. The overall taste is well balanced with the pickles, mushrooms, onions and the rest... but I have a couple gripes. First off, the bread is too soft and falls apart when you eat the burger. It made everything sort of messy...so that was a negative for me. My second gripe is that I asked for my burger to be well done... but it wasn't. Just came from here earlier and what can I say, I'm a new fan! Really, torn between this and In-N-Out, my regular hamburger fix. Both unique, both delicious. Downside is, this is more expensive than In-N-Out but for the quality, toppings included with free peanuts, this can't be beat! I feel compelled to write this review after rushing tonight to try this burger after my "foodie" co-worker told me today that this place easily beats In-in-Out and reading all the bad reviews for this burger joint chain from DC. I went to Five Guys which I've been hearing about for years. I got a burger with 2 patties and my girlfriend got a regular burger with some toppings. We did not get shakes because they don't serve them at Five Guys. That's lame as shit. I don't eat burgers with toppings because I like to taste the meat. I eat the meat and bun. Five Guys has tons of toppings which are mostly free except for bacon and a few others. The reason they are free is because they incorporate the price of toppings into every burger sale. So I was paying for your toppings even though I don't eat them. That is complete bullshit. I should not have to pay for other peoples' toppings. The best thing my girlfriend and I got was the peanuts and the soda. Neither of which Five Guys had anything do to with producing. What's especially lame about Five Guys is all the east coast praise for their burgers. I don't give a shit that the Boston Chronicle or whoever said they were the best burger of 2008. That means nothing to me. And these xeroxed pieces of paper with all this praise is plastered all over the walls because they have nothing better to fill the negative space on the walls with. This place sucked and the burgers were not very good. The quality of the beef was nothing special and reminded me of the kind of meat I would get at a Chilis. I'm a burger fiend and I will be honest when I say that I don't plan to eat at this place again. Quite frankly, I'm very surprised that it's lasted this long. The service was good. However, it was my second visit and I forgot how expensive it was. I paid $13.60 for a single bacon cheeseburger, regular fries, and regular drink. Holy cow!! The burger patties aren't even that large! I didn't realize the price of the fries until I looked at my receipt and noticed that an order of regular fries is $3.89. Really?? Sure, they pack a large amount of fries in your order but I would prefer to pay a realistic amount for a smaller portion. Today my wife and I made our first, and definitely last visit to this popular burger destination. At best, the burger was fair and uneventful. Not worth the 15 min wait in line and not worth the $6+ that they get for a cheeseburger. The bun was soggy and the burger had an overall low structural integrity. I was constantly battling the pickles and tomatoes who were trying to desert this sinking ship. What really brought the whole experience down was the french fries. They were among the worse I have come across. They do use potatoes with the skin on, which i think is a nice touch. However, these things were so limp that I don't think Viagra would have helped. They were mushy, soggy, and pretty much as flavorful as the salt that I had too put on them. Long story short you can go to Islands or Red Robin for about the same money and get a better overall experience, including silverware. I wonder what was on the walls of the original five guys joint, maybe they had artwork to set the mood? or maybe they foresaw their success? But apparently when you're a colossal machine you can shove this confidence down the throat of your customers at no extra cost. an interesting observation was the 10 people working behind the counter and the realization that they were terribly over staffed when one girl merely stood and called out numbers while pretending she was meant for greater things. Maybe this was a training oversight? like the rubenesque fella roaming aimlessly around the floor sweeping spots on a whim, loping about while missing major points of interest but acting as if his sentience was merely a phenomena and not an aspect of his decision making abilities. Is this her fault? Is this his fault? No. this is 5 GUYS touting their glory in a parade of presumptuousness. BUT why 2 stars and not 1? Well honestly, it is a damn good burger. the american dream with cheese. The best? no. i don't believe in a best burger. best is momentary--a good burger on a great day becomes a wonder for the soul. With In-N-Out right across the street, there better be a good reason to come to Five Guys. I haven't found it. One of the first things you'll notice when you walk into Five Guys is their large selection of burger toppings. This is my favorite part of coming here. Burgers are like pizza, they should be catered to the individual. With so many choices, only you can be blamed for getting a bad burger. Toppings you'd find in my burgers: onions, jalapeños, BBQ sauce, BACON, err just about everything--hold the mushrooms and pickles. Burgers are a bit difficult to do bad, as long as you avoid the corporate joints, and I've had a hard time finding a place that makes inedible burgers. Here at Five Guys you can expect juicy, greasy and mouthwatering patties that are cooked well. The meat here is about as good as it gets. The buns are the classic sesame seed ones which, in my opinion, are the only type which should be on burgers by default. As with toppings, different cheeses can be chosen, which is perfect when American simply isn't going to cut it. Fries: I've tried both their Cajun and steak fries. They're both ok. Cajun fries are seasoned, thin and crunchy. And their regular fries are thick, crunchy on the outside and a but soft near the center. The portion on the fries are big and satisfying. Five Guys sounds great and all, but there's a big discrepancy with their pricing. A full meal with a double burger can easily run you about $15. This wouldn't be so bad if the burgers weren't so tiny. Seriously, a few bites and they're gone, along with your cash. Extra topping choices are great, but you can replicate the meal anywhere else for roughly 2/3 the price. Unless you enjoy overpaying, there is no reason to eat here with so many burger places in the area. I don't see myself frequenting Five Guys anytime soon. Definitely MEH. Has the hole in the wall burger joint taste but with 2X the price. $13 for fries, drink, and a burger? No thanks. I'll take my money elsewhere. I have no idea how the east coast thinks that Five Guys is the best burger ever. One thing I have to say that saved this review from being only 1 star was that the food came out fairly quickly even with a long line. read more

In recent weeks, the subject of Five Guys has triggered intense, emotional battles among friends, family, and coworkers. Personally, I'm down for a good burger any damn time. So I'll start this off by speaking as objectively as possible. This new location is clean, fast, and pretty efficient. The service is friendly and helpful. There are however, a couple things I would suggest: (1) Get a damn mic and speaker installed. One of the young ladies working that night had one of the loudest most annoying voices in the world -- "ORDER NUMBER 14!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (2) Turn the freakin A/C down -- my burger was cold by the time I got to my table. Ok, now that the objective hat is off -- you will find me at In-N-Out 90% of the time if I'm ever in the area. I had the Bacon Cheeseburger (all 980 calories) and really wasn't that impressed. I could barely taste the bacon -- sadness. For the size of the burger, $7 was reasonable, but I'd much rather go to Fatburger if I'm going to pay that much. The fries however, are a different story... We went a few days ago with my little dog and the manager politely told me that they don't allow dogs inside the building. she told us that we're welcome to sit in the patio and that wouldnt be a problem (most people would be so rude about it). the only thing i was concerned about was there arent any umbrellas for outdoor seating read more
